*DSFL Week 1 - 4 Predictions - Duilio05 - 03-25-2019 DSFL Weeks 1 - 4 Predictions by Walt Green Week 1 ![]() ![]() In their preseason match, the Marshals shutout the Solar Bears. Marshals defense that day recorded 8 sacks, an INT, a defensive TD, and TWO Safeties. I expect San Antonio’s defense will once again dismantle Palm Beach’s offense as QB Apollo Lange has his DSFL debut. To have any success moving the ball downfield Lange should favor his TEs. Michael Rood, Dan Wright, and Chase Jensen are the best group of TEs in the DSFL. I want to see a lot of 2 TE sets to help spread this crushing defense and create short safe looks to help Apollo stay comfortable and get the ball out. On the other side of the ball, the Bears drafted a solid crop of rookies on defense lead by linebackers Rock Hardshaft, Guy Nikko, Gabagool, and safety Fatih Terim; but these guys are facing a trial by fire. Marshals have QB Cooter Bigsby, the #1 Overall Pick of the S14 NSFL draft and this Solar Bear defense is not nearly the toughest he has ever faced. ![]() ![]() These two teams did not meet in the preseason. The last time these two teams played was Week 8 last season. All the focus in this game should be on Portlands defense vs Tijuana’s offense. In the S14 DSFL draft Portland GM PSanchez55. took 7 defense players in the first 8 rounds. In this same draft, Tijuana GM PaytonM34 used his first two picks to draft offensive lineman. So, will Tijuana’s Wall hold back Portland’s stacked defense, Or will the Pythons strangle Corvo Havran and Co? Players on Tijuana’s Wall to watch are Edmond Beaver-Dantes, Brave Ulysses, and Jacob Rowan ![]() ![]() The preseason match of these two teams was a tale of two halves. Coyotes dominated the first two quarters, but then the Seawolves took control in quarters three and four. Coyotes, fortunately, scored 7 points more in the first half than the Seawolves did in the second half. Objectively looking at these two teams, they are very close in the amount of talent they have on both sides of the ball. Like their preseason game, I expect another very even and close match. I predict Kansas City will win due to Rose Jenkins’ experience. However, I can’t estimate how much the controversy around rookie Ryan Leaf has rattled his teammates. Don’t miss out on watching the best group of WRs in the DSFL; just a little bit of Ahri Espeeyeeseetee, Brock Landers, and Charles Mudley could make QB Jay Longshaw look like a veteran. If the Coyotes’ controversy is more than just rumors and hearsay, the Seawolves could sock it to them and pull off an upset. Week 2 ![]() ![]() These two teams had a bizarre preseason game. Going into the fourth quarter the Solar Bears were up 9-8, but lost 19-9. Both teams recorded a safety in the game! What a nightmare way to start the season. First, this crop of rookies for Palm Beach had to face the S13 DSFL Regular Season Champions, now they have to face the S13 Ultimini Champions. Don’t expect this game to look anything like their preseason match. I do have Tijuana’s defense ranked less than San Antonio’s, so maybe Palm Beach’s offense will have a bit more success than their first game. However, I expect Tijuana’s Wall will allow them to score a few more points against Palm Beach than San Antonio did. I’m excited to see what Rod Tidwell can do now that he isn’t going to be blanketed by Portland's beast of a secondary. ![]() ![]() San Antonio and Kansas City did not face each other in the preseason. The last time they played, Coyotes won 16-10 in Week 13. This will be Marshals first true test of the season. Keep an eye on rookies Morgan Marshall(RB) and Timmy Hoss(TE) as both will be called on to help keep the offense moving against a tougher opponent. Looking only at pure talent, on paper, both offenses are very similar. Talented RBs, WRs, TEs and second-year QBs. Marshals have the advantage on defense where they have playmakers at each level, and on both sides of the field. The Marshals defense will have to contain Kansas Cities huge list of weapons - WRs JN Nova and Krispy Kreme, TEs Cameron Olsen and McGriddle Luver, and finally fan favorite, RB Terry Taffy. As of now, I expect Rose Jenkins will be able to keep the Coyotes competitive in this game. However, if Norfolk pulls off the upset in Week 1, the controversy in Kansas City could significantly intensify and really mess with the Coyotes mental state, all of which potentially could lead to a really ugly showing by Kansas City. ![]() ![]() These two had a very exciting preseason game with multiple lead changes. It ended with the Seawolves winning 22-17. While Norfolk could come into this game energized if they got the upset over Kansas City in week 1, I'm expecting Portland will win this time. Both offenses have a similar talent level, and both have rookies as their starting QB. The difference makers in this game will be Gekyume Stokeley and Leighton Lee for Portland’s defense. Unlike Norfolk whose players are all rookies, Portland’s Stokeley and Lee are second-year players. I expect they will be energizing and motivating the rookies on that defense to make key stops in the fourth quarter to secure the win. This Portland defense is a group to keep your eyes on all season. Week 3 ![]() ![]() The expansion teams did not meet in the preseason. Both teams should be pumped up for this one. A battle to establish which expansion team is better. Norfolk will have had the easier early schedule, and could have even pulled off an upset win. The Solar Bears had to grind through a ‘sink or swim’ gauntlet for their first two games. Strictly from an on paper view, I think Norfolk has the better defense, thus I expect linebacker Allen Josh and the Seawolves will keep the Solar Bears winless. That said look for Apollo Lange to have his best performance so far of the season. The Bears’ offense should be a lot more open and capable than we saw in their first two games, maybe even slinging it deep to wide receiver Nacho Varga. ![]() ![]() Here we go! The S13 DSFL Regular Season Champions vs The S13 Ultimini Champions In their preseason match the Marshals won in 16-14. I expect this to be the best game of the first four weeks. It will require every player on both sides to give their best. Can San Antonio’s defensive ends Nero Alexander and Joseph Henry get past the Wall to pressure Corvo Havran? Can Tijuana’s Johnny Slothface and Thomas Clark hold Marshal runningback Morgan Marshall in check? Get pumped! ![]() ![]() In preseason the Pythons came from behind to win 21-17 against the Coyotes. This is the first of back to back games between Portland and Kansas City. Whoever wins this game will have a huge psychological edge next week. I’m expecting the Pythons defense will keep Rose Jenkins and running back Terry Taffy in check just enough for Portlands running back duo Kermit Stronglegs and Beauregard Smallwood to grind out a win. Week 4 ![]() ![]() Don’t expect the outcome of this game to be any different from Week 1. ![]() ![]() These two played a really sloppy preseason game. The first half started with promise as the Seawolves scored the first 7 points of the game and Luchadores followed that up scoring 16 unanswered points in the second. However, the second half was really disappointing as both teams only managed 3 points each. In fact, neither team scored in the 4th quarter. While Tijuana vs San Antonio should have the best football of the early season, this matchup between Norfolk and Tijuana could be the most entertaining. If you don’t understand, let's use an analogy. A documentary about spies is a lot more accurate and realistic than a James Bond movie, but James Bond is a lot more entertaining. I’m hoping to see Jay Longshaw and his trio of wide receivers aggressively attack a Tijuana secondary that will be severely outmatched, to ensure the Seawolves don’t fall too far behind. ![]() ![]() Is there enough time between Weeks 3 & 4 for either team to adjust strategies? I don’t think so. Expect the team that won in Week 3 to win in Week 4. *Disclaimer - As a player, I am biased towards San Antonio. I also grew up a huge fan of the Portland Pythons* *DSFL Week 1 - 4 Predictions - dizzyDC - 03-25-2019 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Jk, nice article man *DSFL Week 1 - 4 Predictions - Duilio05 - 03-25-2019 (03-25-2019, 06:00 PM)dizzyDC Wrote: Yeah, I'm expecting the hate. I just wanted to clear up a few things here because the preseason was completely wrong from many aspects (incomplete rosters, CPU set depth charts, wrong players on rosters, etc.) and many of the Solar Bear players didn't even get a chance to start. I have to clarify this again because of the mass confusion and frustration it caused among all DSFL players. In addition, I'm not surprised at all that San Antonio won because they had Trey Willie at max TPE playing for them somehow: ![]() Having a top WR from the NSFL sure helps when you've already got a top level DSFL quarterback in Cooter (Best QB name ever, sorry Raven...). I'm not surprised that Palm Beach lost all their games and Norfolk lost 3/4...these teams were nerfed a few seasons ago by yours truly so that they wouldn't be able to compete with human teams. Since the preseason was incomplete, these teams were playing with a roster designed to lose to human teams. Another point of clarification, I am not the Portland Pythons GM (I was from S4-S6ish). The GMs are @J.G.10 and @PSanchez55. They are doing a great job continuing the legacy I created with the rebrand and overhaul in S4. Just wanted to point those things out so that the players on Palm Beach and Norfolk aren't discouraged by the results from preseason and these predictions. *DSFL Week 1 - 4 Predictions - Duilio05 - 03-25-2019 (03-25-2019, 07:02 PM)PDXBaller Wrote:Hey there! Ooops Sorry PDXBaller. I fixed that mistake. Yes, I understand preseason is an incomplete mess, but thank you for sharing this info with all of us newbies. Though I didn't know that about Trey Willie lol. I tried to only use the preseason to add in historical context and extra substance, and only use player TPE to influence my predictions of who will win or lose. |
