The night before, he goes to bed at 7 PM and then he gets a full 12 hours of sleep, ready to wake up for the next day. Before he heads to the practice facility, he looks through the section of the playbook that they plan to use in that game. He quizzes himself on the different audibles he'll call to clue in his teammates, and tries to remember his assignment in every possible situation. Find the deepest man, blitz, crash the box, shade left, follow the QBs eyes... He drives to the guest practice facility early in the morning and eats breakfast there. He's usually the first one there, so he sets up the equipment and starts doing drills. He leaves dummies rolling and donuts flying as he works on tackling. As his teammates and coaches start to arrive, he scrimmages with passion. Back when he was at Northwestern playing college football, he would always eat normal Domino's pizza on gameday lunch, but now he just sneaks a slice into his meal plan. Much to the chagrin of his teammates, he eats the crust first. When he's done with his special lunch, it's just team warmups the rest of the day until the game starts. Others have told him that it was a terrible idea and that it'd hurt him out on the field, but he's never really had a problem with it and if anything eating a big breakfast always left him felt feeling sluggish and slow. Instead he opts for a light meal, usually one yogurt and some fruit. From there he usually gets a light workout in mostly consisting of some cardio and light weight work. Once he gets to the stadium he finds his way his locker, always in a corner in the back with a nice lounge chair. He puts on his headphones and puts on some music. Really no specific playlist, just randomizes through a bunch of saved songs and tries to get into the zone. He won' really speak to anyone just zones out and concentrates and goes over in his head what he has to do and what his focus will be out on the field. Once he suits up and his team takes the field he takes the time to talk to each and every one of his teammates, joking and just having fun being loose and ready for the opening kick. (S14) PT 2 - Game day - terriblehippo - 04-01-2019 Code: Ready to be graded (253 words) Quenton Bode is a simple bear, so his pre-game ritual is simple as well. He wakes up an hour earlier than he normally does, after having gone to bed early the night before. He takes a hot shower, eats a large breakfast, then starts reviewing that day's opponent--watching game film, studying their habits and tendencies, and rereading the Marshals' game plan. Bode always has a book with him, so before he leaves his home (or the hotel, if the team is on the road), he reads a chapter in whatever book he's got with him, then packs it in his bag. When asked why he does it, he said, "I feel like it gives my mind a break from all the football stuff, and lets it process that information a bit better. Plus, I just like to read." He leaves with plenty of time to get to the stadium, whether the game is at home or away. When he arrives, Bode makes sure to get in a light workout, just to get warmed up and primed for the game ahead. He meets with the training staff and medical team, to make sure that his body is good to go. He reads a little bit more, then gets in another light workout. After that, he gets suited up and goes around to each of his teammates, making sure that they're just as ready as he is to go out and win a game for the Marshals. (S14) PT 2 - Game day - Leafs4ever - 04-01-2019 Listen, athletes are creatures of habit, it's just something that gives them comfort on stressful days. It gives you some control on game day when things aren't going to be under your control. I'm no different. On game days, I wake up at 6:30am, turn on TSN1050 for my Leafs radio talk, shower, brush my teeth, and get dressed. At 7:00am, I drive down to the stadium and get ready for breakfast. On game days I always have one grilled cheese, one english muffin with cream cheese, and a glass of milk. After eating, I go and run for 20 minutes to get my juices flowing. At 9:00am, I meet Joilet for some route running. For an hour, he calls routes, I run them, and he throws it. At 10:30am, I play Oles in Madden for one game. I'm the Cowboys and he's the Ravens. At 11:00am, we meet with our quarterback Joilet to talk strategy against our opponent. At 12:00pm, we all get geared up and go on the field for pre-game warm ups. Game starts at 1:00pm and we're ready to go. Everything is regimented from the time I wake up right until game day. This procedure is the exact same no matter the start time for the game. If it's a 4:00pm, I start at 9:30am and if it's an 8:30pm start, I start at 2:00pm. This game day routine takes the guessing out of my day. I knew exactly what I'm going to do so I don't have to waste time thinking about it and I can just focus on the game. (277 words) (S14) PT 2 - Game day - Baron1898 - 04-01-2019 Morgan Marshall wakes up a bit earlier than normal on game days and goes for a quick jog in the neighborhood- a habit from his days of competing in cross-country and a welcome way to clear his mind. From there, he takes a quick shower before treating himself to a croissant filled with melted chocolate chips. Marshall gets dressed, watching a bit of pre-game film, and drives out to the stadium with plenty of time to spare, listening to a podcast about the history of World War II on his drive. For the next hour or so he listens to classic 70s rock while getting into a good mindset, then he goes and does some light warmup exercises on the field. After that Marshall just sits in the locker room, listening to his music and and slowly getting pumped for the matchup ahead. Sometimes he’ll sit and read a history book next to his teammate Quenton Bode, and sometimes he’ll just zone out listening to the Beatles. Once it gets closer to game time, Marshall once again gets warmed up and finally suits up for the game. It’s here where Marshall starts to get fired up for the game ahead and gets into a full competitive mindset. (S14) PT 2 - Game day - Rradum - 04-01-2019 When I wake up on game day I have a pretty normal routine. I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. Wake up in the morning, hit the shower and use my Garnier Fructis (not a sponsor) in my luscious locks, clean up the beard a bit and then off to eat breakfast. Well, after I throw on some clothes of course. My game day breakfast consists of 3 eggs, over easy, 1 glass of milk, and 1 cup of black coffee, avacado toast, and a bag of skittles. After that I go to the gym to workout through Facetime with Lightsout Lewis @flyeaglesfly29 to get those gains. At the gym I have to listen to Heat of the Moment by the band Asia on repeat. Talk about a hype song am I right? Once I get swole, I go and Facetime my parents to see how they're doing and ask if they'll be watching the game that night. Of course they always are. They're the reason I am where I am without a doubt. Fast forward to the stadium where I walk the halls for an hour or so before we're supposed to be in the pregame meeting. For the walk I'm usually bumping the soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy or the Halo soundtrack. After that it's mostly normal routine stuff like our pregame meeting and warmups. Then it's on to the game! (S14) PT 2 - Game day - gucci - 04-01-2019 Brock Landers’ game day routine has changed immensely since last year. Previously, Brock used to wake up, roll off the young lady who had the fortune of being the chosen partner for the night, and wash his mouth out with the flat keg beer from the night before. Now, Brock wakes up and makes breakfast for his very pregnant young bride before hitting the game film and going over the scouting report for three or four hours. His commitment to improving both mentally and physically has only grown after a very average start to the season where he’s yet to find the endzone. That being said, Brock is pleased to have contributed to his team’s early success, as he’s made 13 total receptions through the first four games, 8 of which have resulted in a first down. Not bad stats for a run first offense, but not good enough for Brock. Just before the game begins, Brock drinks his zipfizz for natural(ish) energy and hits the jugs machine to “wake up” his hands as he says. He claims this has been instrumental in him only having two drops so far this season, a very low number for a DSFL receiver who has been targeted regularly. After he completes these tasks, he stretches with his teammates and hits the field. (S14) PT 2 - Game day - Sir Earl - 04-01-2019 PBE PT link |
