(S16) - PT4 - New Day - Bigred1580 - 07-29-2019 (S16) - PT4 - New Day Complete the weekly Point Task to earn 3 TPE! All written responses must be at least 200 words. All graphic responses must show at least some effort. Do not claim this TPE until it has been graded and posted to the S16 claim thread. Also, if you try to build your word count by being super repetitive and rambling on, you will not get full credit. This task is due next Sunday, August 4th, at 11:59 EST. Have fun and get writing! Written Option: If you could change one thing about this league, change one rule, relocate a team, adjust the conferences, change how the bank works, fix the sim engine, etc, what would it be and why? How would it improve the league as is, and how easy would it be to implement? This is not a time to bash the current set up, but to hear constructive ideas for improvement. Shout out to Swagsloth for putting the idea in the PT ideas thread long ago and to JK for talking about it in his podcast. Or Graphic Option: No Graphic Option As always, you can link your affiliate PT: SHL, GOMHL, PBE (S16) - PT4 - New Day - CalvinP - 07-29-2019 A few list of the things that I would definitely change on first thought would probably start off with the Sim file logic. I don't know if we can actually do that but the Sim tends to do stupid things in certain situations. For instance kicking a field goal when you're down four and it's the end of the game or punting the ball when you're one yard away during a crucial run. I think the entire league would benefit if we somehow looked into improving the Sim as a whole, how we go about that I honestly don't know. I'm not really great at things like that but I know that universally the Sim has screwed a few teams due to bad logic. The next thing would be media payout structure. A lot of us don't have a bunch of free time to constantly put out long articles for media, especially those that have more day-to-day responsibilities. The alternative to this is having Pressors Where the forum can ask questions and you can simply answer them at your own Leisure. The problem is the pressures don't get the same amount of respect (as far as payout) as the regular articles which is understandable. But at the same time we should create some type of incentive to ask questions, not half filled with joke questions. So those people who do pressures more often can have enough answers that they can get a decent amount of money from doing pressors. ----------------- 249 words (S16) - PT4 - New Day - Buttersqauch101 - 07-29-2019 If I was given an offer to change one thing about the league and that thing could be anything, you know I would have to relocate a couple teams. The Colorado Yeti get a bad rep for always having a mediocre season at best, so you know what we do. We relocate them. Now there are an infinite amount of choices of where I could relocate this team to but I have one location that I hold dear to my heart, I would send Colorado Yetis to Saskatoon to become the Nobles in honor of our dear lord Noble himself. The Saskatoon Nobles would become the best team in the league instantly due to their kickass name, a team full of definitely not multis, and all of HO on the same team. But say that in a different period of time I get ANOTHER choice of whatever I want to happen in the league, I would change the most popular rule that is definitely most severely punished. I had a dream that I would get rid of the rule that prevents multis which would let my Saskatoon Nobles roam free in the league and there would be nothing the league could do about it (S16) - PT4 - New Day - C9Van - 07-29-2019 The biggest thing that I would change would be having some sort of national bowl at the end of the season. Kind of like the pro bowl but this time it is America vs The World type situation. I do not know how many non-america characters exist within the league but I think we could probably create a whole team to make this little friendly fixture happen. With enough success this may even be extended to a bit of a world championship or junior championship like with what happens in the Simulation Hockey League. Like maybe a Europe, Asia, America, Canada type situation maybe? I would love for one day to have Laszlo Forty-Two lead out a whole Hungarian team. We would probably get rekt but it would be a cool moment nevertheless. The only other thing I may suggest is switching up the format for the play-offs in DSFL. Winning the division giving a bye is alright but considering how the bot teams do not really have any chance whatsoever against the other human teams it is a bit pointless having say Marshalls vs Polar Bears cause you know who will win anyway. Just free post-season stats if anything before the two human teams face each other. This is 200+ words and no I am not removing my placeholder gif of the NEEEEW DAAAAY! ![]() (S16) - PT4 - New Day - hihihi_62 - 07-29-2019 If I could change some things about the NSFL it would be changes to the website itself. The only other SIM league I participate in is the SBA so of course I'm simply comparing to that but overall I find the layout and update system on SBA to be a little bit cleaner and simpler to navigate. The update system in particular is super simple and fool proof over at SBA. At SBA instead of relying on users to type everything they do in an update thread and let them do the math for their updates SBA uses drop down menus with appropriate payouts and does all the calculations for you. Then when applying your TPE they once again use a system that applies the appropriate amount of TPE every time you update a stat so you don't have to worry about doing the math in your head (ie. how many TPE do I need to increase my speed from 88->89..?). Of course I've been here at NSFL long enough to know how to navigate all the menus and properly apply my TPE (most of the time) but I think making that system user friendly may help keep newer users returning who may otherwise go IA due to being overwhelmed and confused off the get go. 216 Words (S16) - PT4 - New Day - RaiderNation - 07-29-2019 If I could change anything about the league, I think it would be transitioning all the DSFL teams to NSFL and filling out a total of 32 teams via expansion. I believe NSFL would benefit more from this because it will be an NFL style format that a lot of people could get behind and could open up doors for multiple ideas such as a more detailed role play for those that enjoy RP, a larger draft class each offseason which in turn will benefit the entire league and many more ideas that can branch off into something meaningful for the league. Seeing all 11 positions on offense and defense during games with occasional bench players would lead to much more exciting and active locker rooms during sims and during each teams daily running of their organization. Seeing a full league with 32 teams with divisions and each team filled out to it's capacity would be something nowhere short of amazing in a player sim league as it requires a well oiled league management to keep all in tacked and for any league to be efficient, there has to be active members. With the makeup and break down of how things currently flow in NSFL, moving to one main league and no development league is a very possible feat as the NSFL only is expanding with each day that passes. (S16) - PT4 - New Day - karl - 07-29-2019 I've participated in several sim leagues now, the longest being the SHL. Overall I've enjoyed my time here. I'll admit I don't really know enough about the history and/or current state of the league, but the fact its continued to roll now for 16 seasons would suggest everyone involved does a good (enough) job. One thing I would say could be changed though is the overall layout of the site. The index is amazing, but the site itself just feels dated and it's not always the easiest to navigate. With 15 seasons under it's belt I imagine it's come quite a long way from it's inaugural season 1 start, but there's definitely more that could be done. An automated update and/or banking system would be huge and a face lift to the site would be refreshing. The SHL did something similar a few seasons back and although the transition was a bit tough in the early goings, it turned out to be a welcome improvement in the long run. They actually just instituted a new banking system and so far it seems to be an improvement as well. As for the updating the two are quite similar, but I've been told the VHL and SBA have automated systems that could be looked to as significant upgrades on the current setup. (S16) - PT4 - New Day - ValorX77 - 07-29-2019 If I were to change the National Simulation Football League, I would do a couple of things, Including a conference realignment and 2 relocations of the basement teams in the league. So to start the first team I want to relocate is the Colorado Yeti, just look at them, they’ve been the league’s laughingstock and punching bag for many seasons and having back to back 0-14 seasons is not gonna help get your fair weathered fans back in the stands, so guess what yeti, you are migrating down south to Atlanta and you are now the Atlanta Moccasins, with the colors of Gold, brown, and black, and playing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The next victim of the move is the likely winless Austin Copperheads, once again fair weathered fans are not getting in those stands with a record and a team like that, that’s a true dumpster fire. They’re going be slithering to the beautiful city of Seattle and rebranding to the Seattle Stallions, with colors of Mint blue, silver, and lime green, and rocking CenturyLink Field. With the moves completed, the conferences will now be based on coast lines, The eastern conference will have Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, and New Orleans, while the west will have Arizona, Orange County, San Jose, Seattle, and Yellowknife. (S16) - PT4 - New Day - TropicaliaCC - 07-29-2019 It would be interesting to switch the engine to one of the older Madden games. Watching our steams isn’t very interesting to me for a few reasons. First, it goes by way too quickly, so you can’t keep up with what happened or admire a good play. Speaking of good plays, even the 75 yard touchdown passes aren’t that cool because you’re watching dots on a screen. Plus, think about how much more into the game the commentators could be if they could watch plays develop and see big hits. On the streaming side it would vastly improve the product of the NSFL. The difficult part of the undertaking would be changing the structure of earning TPE for all of the extra attributes that the madden games have. However, the process can be streamlined by having merging the different Madden attributes under a single umbrella. For example, if your current NSFL Speed is 90 your speed and acceleration on Madden would both be 90. You would still have to expand to new attribute categories that we don’t currently have like a power run, which would include Stiff Arm and Trucking, and an elusive run, which would include elusiveness, spin, and juke. Overall, the change would not be an easy process whatsoever, but long-term it would create a much more impressionable sim. (S16) - PT4 - New Day - TeyonSchavari - 07-29-2019 If I could improve some things about this league...man, I don't know what I'd do to start. The first thing that comes to mind is I believe this place could have improved navigation on the website. For example, at the very top of the page on desktop both "Forums" and "The NSFL" tabs lead to the same place, and I don't see a point in having "MEMBERS" and "SEARCH" twice at the top of the page. Cleaning this up would make it a bit more efficient. Along with this, I feel like Player Retirement shouldn't be under the "Getting Started" tab, "Player Central" seems like a more appropriate place. I'd also move the "Player Development" section up above "Community" as it might be the most important part of the site. Also, nobody uses "Rookie Locker Room". That just takes up valuable space at the page, that can be trashed or moved elsewhere. These small changes to the home page would help a bunch when navigating the site. On a much less serious note, I would also relocate one of the teams to Des Moines, Iowa. Why? Because, I've lived in Iowa my whole life and don't have a professional sports team in my home state, so it'd be cool to have at least something. Its a travesty. Instead of having a fake sports team in a popular place that already has multiple real teams, why not try something new? Screw Chicago, it's Iowa's time to shine. |
