Season 1 Safety Performance Guide - Destroyer - 07-18-2017 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]Season 1 Safety Performance Guide[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]As we narrow in on Season 2 of the NSFL, let's take a look back at how some of the safeties in the league have done in Season 1.[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"] ![]() [div align=\\\"center\\\"]Safety Grades* / Tier List *Each player is given a grade based on a formula that takes each players stat line on a per game level, multiplies it by an importance factor that each stat has(for example, tackles are more common than defensive touchdowns, but defensive touchdowns are more game impacting/important), then calculated and scaled up to have the top player closest to 100.[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]A Tier(Grade of 80+): [/div] 1. Isaiah Rashad, Arizona Outlaws - @Destroyer Isaiah Rashad, while in Arizona playing Corner back(*****), has put up outstanding numbers and continued to impress week-in and week-out during Season 1. A leader on the defense and somebody that will always be around the ball. He is by far the best Safety in the league, but will he be able to continuously put up record setting numbers? Some say he will as long as he stays at CB, but hes a safety and will be graded as such. Hes coming in at first on our list for today. Winning DPOTY for a reason, he looks to make the same impact this season. 14 Games, 59 Tackles, 10 Interceptions, 22 Passes Defended, 1 Defensive TD Grade: 99.62142857 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 2. Ja Brill, San Jose Sabercats - @ckroyal92 Ja Brill, had an amazing season and a stat line that most safeties would KILL to have. If it weren't for Isaiah Rashad putting up unreal numbers, Brill would most definitely make number 1 on the list. A balanced free safety that will knock your lights out, Brill is looking to have another great year in San Jose. Season 2 should go well for Brill, but can his Sabercats make a run for the Ultimus trophy with him at the head of the ship? We'll have to wait to see the answer to that. 14 Games, 65 Tackles, 1 Tackle for Loss, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery, 4 Sacks, 3 Interceptions and 5 Passes Defended Grade: 81.09285714 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]B Tier(Grade of 75-80): [/div] 3. Alex Hansen, Yellowknife Wraiths - @acki Leading all safeties in tackles, Hansen is a physical safety that excels in knocking you down. With a fantastic stat line, Hansen contributed every game and made the wraiths defense something scary from across the line of scrimmage. With a high powered offense, Hansen is looking to help sure up the defense and give the Wraiths a shot at their first ever Ultimus Trophy in Season 2. 14 Games, 74 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble, 3 Sacks, 1 Interception, 1 Pass Defended Grade: 77.59285714 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 4. Vikian Marmeladov, Colorado Yeti (S2 - Philadelphia Liberty) - @Vikain Marmeladov, one of the premier safeties in the league had an outstanding performance in season 1. With the second most interceptions and passes defended in the league, he showed that he is always all over the ball and always where he needs to be. Although I was surprised about the Yeti not keeping Vikian, now that he has been picked up by the Philadelphia Liberty, it will be interesting to see how they use him and if he will be able to produce those numbers again in a different environment. 14 Games, 62 Tackles, 1 Tackle for loss, 2 Forced Fumbles, 1 Sack, 4 Interceptions, 4 Passes defended, 1 Defensive touchdown Grade: 76.37142857 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 5. Devin Speed, Baltimore Hawks (S2 - Las Vegas Legion) - @King Devin Speed, a quick, athletic safety that has put up really good numbers. His inactivity will be the death of him in later seasons, but for season 1, hes coming in at number 5. Will be interesting whether or not the Las Vegas Legion keep him on their team and whether or not he will have an impact for them. 14 Games, 64 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble, 2 Sacks, 3 Interceptions, 4 Passes Defended, 1 Defensive Touchdown Grade: 75.57857143 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 6. Dominic Verns, Orange County Otters - @Roshambo Dominic had a great season and very well could have made the Top 5. Due to the calculations, he has just missed out but looks to be working on that. With the otters having so much hype around them in Season 1, Verns just looked to keep up with the hype by performing all season. With a lot less hype going into Season 2, maybe Verns uses this year as a breakout year and gives the Otters exactly what they need to advance into the NSFL Championship game. 14 Games, 64 Tackles, 1 Tackle for Loss, 4 Sacks, 2 Interceptions, 3 Passes defended, 1 Defensive Touchdown Grade: 75.37857143 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 7. Ryan Flock, Arizona Outlaws - @theFlock Ryan Flock has been outstanding for the Arizona Outlaws. One of the best Safeties in the league, he comes in at 7 on our list and will be the last A tier Safety. Flock is a huge reason that the Arizona defense has performed the way it has. Flock is a physical Free safety that will not allow a receiver to catch the ball if its thrown in his vicinity. He has a few steps to take before he can become a true Top 5 safety, but hes well on the path and is a lot closer than a lot of people think. The Arizona defense looks to maintain its dominance with keeping Flock and Rashad on their side. 14 Games, 71 Tackles, 3 Interceptions, 3 Passes Defended Grade: 75.25714286 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]C Tier(Grade of 55-75): [/div] 8. Isaiah Mcginn, Baltimore Hawks - @`The_King` 10 Games, 44 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble, 2 Interceptions, 2 Passes Defended Grade: 67.51 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 9. Clee Hardrool, San Jose Sabercats - @Saliva^ 14 Games, 51 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble, 3 Sacks, 3 Interceptions, 3 Passes Defended Grade: 63.92857143 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 10. Pablo Sanchez, Yellowknife Wraiths - @baltimoreravens 14 Games, 62 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery, 1 Sack, 1 Pass Defended Grade: 63.70714286 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 11. Mike McNoodle, Colorado Yeti - @TheLoopster 14 Games, 53 Tackles 1 Fumble Recover, 2 Interceptions, 3 Passes Defended Grade: 58.28571429 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] 12. Roman Thomas, Orange County Otters 6 Games, 25 Tackles, 1 Sack Grade: 58 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]D Tier(Grade of 0-55): [/div] 13. Mayran Jackson - Arizona Outlaws - @Kendrick 14. Sunday Showcase - Baltimore Hawks - @SundayShowcase 15. Zed Richter - San Jose Sabrecats - @Plastic Bowl 16. Matt Smith - Baltimore Hawks - @MattSmith518 17. Samuel Watson - Arizona Outlaws 18. Lillico - Yellowknife Wraiths [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]Safeties on Each Team[/div] Lets take a look at the best 2 safeties from each team during season 1 and rank the teams by the average grade of their top 2 safeties. [div align=\\\"center\\\"] ![]() [div align=\\\"center\\\"]1. Arizona Outlaws - Average Grade: 87.439285 Isaiah Rashad Ryan Flock[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Arizona Outlaws are in great shape going into Season 2, keeping both their best safeties and still maintaining the number 1 spot for safety average grades.[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]2. San Jose Sabercats - Average Grade: 72.510715 Ja Brill Clee Hardrool[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Sabercats have an amazing secondary and two stars that will continue to improve and get better. Its surprising to see their excellent secondary not translate into wins, but maybe season 2 will fare much better for the Sabercats.[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]3. Baltimore Hawks - Average Grade: 71.544285 Devin Speed Isaiah McGinn[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Hawks will most likely fall to a lower spot during season 2. Their best safety in Devin Speed is very inactive and most likely will be dropped from the team. They can hope that they can ride his efforts for a while, but most likely, this will not happen. Changes are needed for the hawks moving into season 2.[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]4. Yellowknife Wraiths - Average Grade: 70.65 Alex Hansen Pablo Sanchez[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]The wraiths are looking to move up some places while keeping Hansen and looking to replace Sanchez. If they can get a superstar to replace Sanchez, they will most likely be number 2 or 3 on this list next year, depending on how those Sabercats do. [/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]5. Colorado Yeti - Average Grade: 67.32857 Vikian Marmeladov Mike McNoodle[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]It's surprising to see the Yeti so low on this list even though they made it to the championship game. It just shows how much the Yeti can STILL improve and get better. Too bad they lose their star safety Marmeladov, and McNoodle is still a decent up and coming safety. They will most likely get worst in their secondary, but look for the Yeti to make a big trade or pickup, concerning their secondary in the upcoming season.[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]6. Orange County Otters - Average Grade: 66.689285 Dominic Verns Roman Thomas[/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Otters secondary is not very good. Verns is a star but not a top one. They will look to see if they can get some good safeties in the upcoming draft, but if they dont, they will struggle in the secondary. [/div] [div align=\\\"center\\\"]***Please remember this whole list is based on a grading system that I created and scaled to fit the league. It is based on a PER GAME level. Meaning each stat is calculated down to be per-game. This means each grade is based on what a player's average safety grade per game is.***[/div] Quote:1455 words [div align=\\\"center\\\"]First time doing an Analysis/Calculations post. I imagine TDs were weighted highest, then ints, then forced fumbles/fumble recoveries, then sacks, then TFLs, then PDs, then tackles? Great article, though. Make this an annual thing, and start applying the formula to all D. Season 1 Safety Performance Guide - Destroyer - 07-18-2017 (07-18-2017, 11:37 AM)kckolbe Wrote:Would love to see the formula.
