*Case for Vladimir Fyodorovich HoF - majesiu - 08-20-2020 As you may know, Fyodo was my first player in ISFL and in recent S23 Hall of Fame Results received 5/8 votes to be voted in, just a single one away from being inducted. While obviously this will be a biased article, as I believe he belongs in the Hall of Fame, even if his career early on didn't suggest so. To give some background let's start with a fact that Vlad started the career as CB and spent 1 DSFL year (S6) and 4 NSFL seasons playing purely there (S7-10). After that came big S10 free agency where I decided to switch it up and play WR, while also playing two-way that year, since it was last year before rule changed, forbidding such use of players. So the switch happened more than halfway point on the way to regression and I had a dream target than to get to 10k receiving yards with only 8 seasons to play. Despite arguably first 4/5 seasons wasted from that standpoint Fyodorovich achieved that and established himself as one of the most iconic receivers of 2nd decade of the NSFL, being selected 8 times in a row to the Pro Bowls (S10 through S17 - S10 as DB, rest as WR), having a historic playoffs run in S11 and then an individual year in S12 (more about it later). He had amazing teammates those days obviously too. Early career There is a bit of problem with judging cornerbacks by sheer numbers available by the DDSPF, namely, we can only point to big stat being INT and to a lesser extent deflected pass. There is no point of beating around the bush here since he waited for 25 games for his first peak and over his 70 defensive games played accumulated just 7 sacks, 7 INTs & 49 deflected passes. Still, this was also a time where he played on dominant defensive teams of New Orleans that went to 4 straight Ultimus Games winning two of them, so his real defensive impact might have been there, just not showing in the boxscore. Overall he went to 6 straight finals from the get-go - S6 Ultimini Title with San Antonio Marshalls, S7 Finals with Orange County Otters (won also Defensive Rookie of the Year that year, though the competition wasn't big back then), S8 & S10 Finals with NOLA, S9 & S11 Ultmius Win with NOLA. Still, if there was a bright spot in his defensive game it was 3 Interceptions game that is a franchise record up to this day. WR Peak & Best Season Between S11 & S17 he gathered every year at least 1000 receiving yards on well above average efficiency - 17.3 yards per reception - and high volume - almost 6 catches per game which gave amazing 102.75 yards per game average, you could basically count on him getting over 100 yards and in his peak year of S12 he achieved just that - in every single game he reached triple digits. That season is special for more reasons - it's the only one in Top 10 after S6, when fair different strategies were allowed which resulted in RB getting ridiculous results and it clearly stood the test of time since haven't seen anyone beat or even approach it within 50 yards ever since: 1 RB Jordan Yates Orange County Otters (2021) 1860 2 WR Bradley Westfield Orange County Otters (2020) 1756 3 RB Eric Kennedy Yellowknife Wraiths (2020) 1655 4 WR Vladimir Fyodorovich New Orleans Second Line (2027) 1637 It was also one of the rare occurrence when receiver averaged over 20 yards per catch - 20.2 to be exact and in 14 games era it amounted to 116.9 yards per game. Efficiency Despite playing to his last breath and going deep into regression as anyone ever among WR that crossed 10k receiving yards mark (15 players) he ranks 5th: 1. Maddox, E. 18,1 - awaiting eligibility 2. Valentine, V. 17,6 - just unanimously inducted 3. Oles, K. 17,4 - awaiting eligibility 4. Westfield, B. 17,3 - unanimously inducted 5. Fyodorovich, V. 16,8 ahead of some other already inducted players like Willie, T. 16,4, LeClair, A. 16,4, Garden, J. 15,4 & Crush, C. 14,5. While at it let's mention longevity here since it's another attribute of player willing to go as far as possible: By games played: he is ranked tied 3rd overall with his draft classmate, that also have been just inducted: 1 CB Dermot Lavelle Yellowknife Wraiths - 182 2 WR Trey Willie - 180 3 WR Vladimir Fyodorovich & TE Verso L'Alto - 178 If we counted only started games he'd be 2nd only behind Lavelle, as both started as many games as they played. So if he was so efficient, high volume & played so many games why he finished with just 10002 receiving yards? Well, to remind again sadly some portion of career was spent playing the only Cornerback, which didn't produce many eye-popping eyeballs, still, if you look at list of Hall of Famers you'll find plenty of players that played more than a single position, just to name RB/LB Boss Tweed, DE/QB Childish Gambino or K/QB Micycle McCormick. I wondered how many games it took for other players to get to that magical mark of 10k, as I remembered being on the edge of my seat in the final game of Fyodo when on the final play of his last game he caught two passes for 40 yards and a touchdown which gave him 2(!) yards above 10k. This is an estimate, based on season average for other players, but shouldn't be farther off than a 1/2 games: Games it took to reach 10k receiving yards: 1. Westfield, B. 98 - already inducted 2. Garden, J. 105 - already inducted 3. Fyodorovich, V. 113 4. LeClair, A. 115 - already inducted 5. Valentine, V. 115 - already inducted 6. Willie, T. 116 - already inducted Further down the line with 142, we have the last one inducted WR - Carlito Crush One other measure of prolonged success can be number of pro-bowl appearances, sadly can't find any updated one, so the one made by @JuOSu back in last year have to suffice since all of already inducted were either retired or on their last legs: 13-time Pro-Bowl Dermot Lavelle (13 at Defensive back, 5 additionally as Kick Returner in the same years) - Inducted 1/1 11-time Pro-Bowl Paul DiMirio (11 at Tight End) - Inducted 1/1 inducted 9-time Pro-Bowl Angus Winchester (3 at Offensive Line, 5 at Linebacker, 1 at Defensive End) - Inducted Austin Roenick (9 at Linebacker) - Inducted Avon Blocksdale (1 at Offensive Line, 7 at Quarterback, 1 at Defensive Back) - Inducted Bradley Westfield (9 at Wide Receiver, 1 additionally at Kick Returner in the same years) - Inducted Josh Garden (7 at Wide Receiver, 2 at Kick Returner) - Inducted Mason Brown (6 at Linebacker, 3 at Defensive Back, 1 additionally at Kick Returner in the same years) - Inducted Owen Taylor (1 at Defensive End, 8 at Running Back) - Inducted Trey Willie (9 at Wide Receiver) - Inducted Verso L'Alto (9 at Tight End) - Inducted 9/9 inducted 8-time Pro-Bowl Antoine Delacour (8 at Defensive Back) - Inducted Boss Tweed (4 at Running Back, 4 at Linebacker) - Inducted Dean Jackson (7 at Punter, 1 at Kicker, 3 additionally at Kicker in the same years) - Inducted Fuego Wozy (8 at Defensive End) - Inducted Jaylon Broxton (7 at Defensive Back, 1 at Kick Returner, 2 additionally at Kick Returner in the same years) Jonathan Saint (8 at Linebacker) - Inducted Mike Boss (8 at Linebacker) - Inducted Turk Turkleton (4 at Kicker, 4 at Punter, 1 additionally at Punter in the same years) - Inducted Vladimir Fyodorovich (1 at Defensive Back, 7 at Wide Receiver, 4 additionally at Kick Returner in the same years) - under consideration William H. Harrison (8 at Defensive Back) 7/10 As you can see most of the players that made it to 8 pro bowls or more have already been inducted, among them 3 wide receivers, overall Fyodorovich had at that point tied 2nd most appearances as WR and only Lavelle was selected 1 more time additionally as Kick Returner. Other bits
1x NSFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (S7) 1x NSFL Performance of the Year: (S11) 1x NSFL Offensive Player of the Year: (S12) 1x NSFL Wide Receiver of the Year: (S12) 1x NSFL Returner of the Year Award: (S14) 8x NSFL Pro Bowl: (S10) as DB, (S11, S12, S13, S14, S15, S16, S17) as WR 2x NSFL Champion: (S9, S11) 5x ASFC Champion: (S7, S8, S9, S10, S11) 1x DSFL Defensive Back of the Year (S6) 1x DSFL Defensive Player of the Year (S6) 1x DSFL Pro Bowl (S6) 1x DSFL Champion: (S6) 1x SFC Champion: (S6) While it isn't your typical career, due to the positional switch I feel like overall longevity with dominant peak years as Wide Receiver as well as team success early on in the career that combined in bountiful trophy case deserve recognition in form of Hall of Fame. I'll leave this decision obviously to the Hall of Fame committee (which has league legends in it: @ADwyer87, @Bwestfield, @iamslm22, @JuOSu, @manicmav36, @PigSnout, @run_CMC, @infinitempg) and would love to hear others opinion on this matter, about a player I almost have given up, but instead with help of fantastic teammates like @bovovovo, @AdamS, @TomHanks, "@JuOSu, @Beaver, @"BayleyIsland" and many more is on the verge of ISFL immortality ![]() RE: Case for Vladimir Fyodorovich HoF - JuOSu - 08-20-2020 Like we discussed before, I absolutely believe you deserve to be in the hall of fame. Let's see if we can actually make a case for you, but this will certainly make it easier to get you votes hopefully! RE: Case for Vladimir Fyodorovich HoF - Bwestfield - 08-20-2020 Looks good from here ☺️ RE: *Case for Vladimir Fyodorovich HoF - 37thchamber - 08-21-2020 Yeah I dunno why you haven't been voted in already tbh. Probably the position switch distorting the appraisal or something silly like that. But hey, this is literally what the wiki and all our stat gathering is for. Still working on getting everything we need to make stuff like this a bit more obvious, though. RE: *Case for Vladimir Fyodorovich HoF - AdamS - 08-21-2020 Slam dunk hall of fame case RE: *Case for Vladimir Fyodorovich HoF - Ben - 08-21-2020 I'd vote for him :eyes: RE: *Case for Vladimir Fyodorovich HoF - timeconsumer - 08-21-2020 Lol Fyod in the Hall of Fame what a joke. Yeah, without wiki effort and some great media pieces I wouldn't be able to make most of this article, quite enjoyed making a wiki page for Fyodo and other pages there back in the day too (https://wiki.sim-football.com/view/Vladimir_Fyodorovich) |
