*The Killing of an Agent - zaynzk - 09-24-2020 So looking at AdamS recent post about contract made me realize that I, aswell as the rest of the S25 draft class might get screwed over in contract negotiations, so I looked in the rule book for agents and realize that it has been made absurdly hard for an agent to exist. I’m looking at 3 rules that I believe need to be changed since agents are a huge part of real football, and it’s absurd that is has been made so hard for an agent to exist 1. Agents are not allowed to have any affiliations with teams in the ISFL or DSFL, nor have any players in the ISFL or DSFL. By this logic the only way for someone to be an agent is to not have a player in the ISFL, I do not understand why having a player in either league would hamper their ability to preform as an agent, and it causes agents to not exist due to the fact that no one wants to just do nothing with the league until off-season, it is a silly rule, and the logic of not having a connection to an ISFL team is a bit weird to me since members of the HO are allowed to have players and team affiliations, so I do not see the reasoning behind blackballing agents out of a league 3. Each agent must have a license from the Head Office to act as an agent. License fee is $10mil per season (Ultimus to Ultimus). This is another thing that I feel like needs to change $10 a season seems too high, especially for a position that is banned from creating a player. By this logic, unless this agent holds a high paying league job, means that agents would need to pick up a boat load of clients before even starting a career 6. Agents must be in the league for 5 full seasons prior to becoming an agent. Nothing is inherently wrong with the rule, but it does create a weird bias, since we have had member of the league without a full season of experience becoming a GM so why is there a minimum number of seasons for only this role? So many of my S25 bro’s have gotten jobs in the league so u expect us to wait about half a year more before we could potentially become an agent? I personally do not understand why this league has decided to create rules that basically makes it near impossible for a player to have an agent in this league, but I believe the rules should be changed from this wildly unfair bias against a major feature in all professional sport RE: The Killing of an Agent - ReverendOReily - 09-24-2020 I'd like to be the first person in this thread to call Zayn's character into question. In all seriousness, I'm inclined to agree with a lot of the points here. My first reaction to reading about agents/agencies in the rulebook is "why would anybody want to become an agent?" what with how restrictive and expensive it is. RE: The Killing of an Agent - r0tzbua - 09-24-2020 Something nice RE: The Killing of an Agent - Amidships - 09-24-2020 I think this is either fair or poor criticism. RE: The Killing of an Agent - Billybolo53 - 09-24-2020 I love the idea of agents. For me, It would be great to be able to be an agent after I retire. It allows people the ability to step back from the league and still be involved in a fun way, but the current rules are broken. You can't make any money from the deals you broker and you have to pay a ridiculous license fee. On top of that they cut your media gains as well. Agents are fun and should at least be given a chance. RE: The Killing of an Agent - Cheech65 - 09-24-2020 Seems legit, why not give it a chance? RE: The Killing of an Agent - Bigred1580 - 09-24-2020 we have given it a chance before... Agents sound good in theory, but they are much more of a headache than something that adds to the league. If an agent has any ill feelings towardes a team or gm, he can manipulate players who don't know the difference into not signing with a team or taking a bigger contract. If an agent has a team of their own, they can manipulate other teams cap space to give their team an advantage. RE: The Killing of an Agent - Ephenssta - 09-24-2020 An opinion I've heard somewhat frequently from older people is that these rules were meant to specifically shut down one particular agent who the GMs/HO at the time thought was a headache. I had nothing but good experiences working with Tim during my recent bout of free agency and really wish there were more people out there working to encourage players to make challenging demands of their teams regarding compensations. RE: The Killing of an Agent - TubbyTim69 - 09-24-2020 Alright so I just finished a 2-3 season long stint as an Agent and honestly I dont ghink it's as bad as people think it is. 1. Agents are not allowed to have any affiliations with teams in the ISFL or DSFL, nor have any players in the ISFL or DSFL. I whole heartedly agree 100% with this rule. If I kept my player for the Liberty and one of my clients is a FA that the Liberty are interested in. What would stop me from telling my client to sign with the Liberty? There's a major conflict of interest there. 3. Each agent must have a license from the Head Office to act as an agent. License fee is $10mil per season (Ultimus to Ultimus). 10 Mill a season makes it so if you want to be an agent you're serious about it and you're not half assing it. HO also waived all the money making penalties that there used to be. Media was paid normally, i could collect Twitter pay. The only rules I had to abide by was the 10 mill a season which tbh if youre in the league for 5 seasons or 1 full year you should be able to cover atleast 1 season before having to write media. 6. Agents must be in the league for 5 full seasons prior to becoming an agent. This rule I also agree needs to be in place. The difference between league jobs and an Agent is if you have a league job then you have a boss or whatever. If you need help you have someone to guide you. As an Agent you have your clients trusting that you know what you're doing and all the trust they have to base off is youre experience. As an agent you really don't have anyone to go to for help or advice on this since you're doing it solo. I personally enjoyed being an agent during the offseason however, during the season sucked because I had nothing to do. The original rules that were set in place I feel like was to stop 1 certain person from being an agent. Once he stopped no one really attempted it again. When I went to Bex and HO about it they did a great job by making it doable by waiving all those stupid rules that used to be in place. I honestly think Agents should be a bigger part of the league to help rookies out but the rules that are in place right now are in place for a reason and I feel like they're necessary.
