(S30) Ultimus Week - siddhus - 08-23-2021 Welcome to Ultimus Week for Season 30! You have ten days to complete the Ultimus Week point task, so the deadline will be Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 at 11:59PM EST. Quick Rules:
Choose ONE for 10 TPE. 1. This week will see the S30 Ultimus and Ultimini races begin in earnest. How did each team arrive at the playoffs? Were there any dark horse teams that went unexpectedly far, or any presumptive favorites that fell flat? Who do you think will win the final? If you’re writing this after the finals were decided, were you surprised by the outcome? 2. Tell us about your draft class. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to? 3. For any team, certain players and users have gone above and beyond, shaping the legacy of the franchise. Choose any ISFL or DSFL team and create a Mount Rushmore for that team. Who in your mind are the four most noteworthy figures of the team’s history? Why does each one of your included figures deserve that recognition, and how did each of them make their mark? 4. “Sim gonna sim” is a popular expression in the league. Write about teams that have been graced by the sim gods and had amazing performances despite statistical odds, and/or about teams that were considered favorites but may have dealt with some bad sim luck that hampered their efforts. How much of an impact did it have on their season(s)? 5. The league has a rich and fascinating history, and our perspectives on it differ from person to person. In 800 words or more, describe any significant moment in ISFL or DSFL history, whether you were around for it or not. Describe the context, the significant members, and the events. What exactly made this event so famous (or infamous) and why does it deserve to be remembered? Events might include championship wins, the inducting of players to the hall of fame, or even a league scandal. 6. Write 800 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 800 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something. Tier 2: Short Form Tasks (Each must be 400+ words) Choose up to TWO for 5 TPE each. 7. This task is exclusive to non-recreate rookies of the S31 class and later. In 400 words or more, how has your experience been in the league? Who have you met that has made your time here more fun, friendly, and exciting? Have you been satisfied with your player’s early start? What was it like being drafted for the first time? Do you have any comments or suggestions for the entire league that you think should be implemented? 8. With awards season upon us, make up an award for your player win for something not on the football field? 9. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commisioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted? 10. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league. 11. Write about your team’s biggest rivalry and what makes it so fierce. Is the competition founded in statistics and the team’s recent performance, or is it a rivalry that developed over time during the team’s history that would exist regardless of statistics? 12. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better? 13. Expansion Expansion Expansion! The league seems to love talking about it, but it has still not happened. Tell us why it should happen / should not happen soon? 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? Tier 3: Written/Graphics Tasks (Each must be either 200+ words or a graphic) Choose up to FOUR for 2.5 TPE each. 15. Going to Disneyland! Who was the Ultimus Game MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) 16. This task is exclusive to recreate/non-recreate rookies of the S31 class and later. The season is over and the draft is coming up. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season? 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here. 18. Written option - which teammate of yours is the ultimate team player and why? How does this person exhibit selflessness and put the team first? Are they a great locker room presence who encourages others? Do they play an important but unappreciated role on the team which doesn't receive much recognition for awards? Graphic Option: Create a graphic of your player with your teammate who exhibits a team-friendly attitude. 19. If your player had a show starring them, what would the plot be? Graphic Option: Create the cover art for your player’s show 20. Make a scouting report for any of the ISFL or DSFL draftees. Show their stats, abilities, TPE, or highlights. Written or graphic option available. 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? 22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? 23. Create a billboard, magazine cover, unique trading card, or video game cover depicting a one of the league's stars. 24. If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did. 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? 26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? 27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why? 28. Choose one existing award. Tell us why you think a certain player should win that award this season. Stats, or anything else possible should be used to support your case. 29. Awards have been a subject of controversy for a while in the league. Tell us your ideas on how awards process can be fixed. 30. The ISFL Players Association was established a few seasons back, and while it is not as prominent now, it was a very interesting idea. What are your thoughts on a player union to help vote on rule proposals? 31. The World Football Association was established last season and is currently playing out for the first time. What do you think about the WFC as a whole and how it has been shaping out. Do you think it will end up a success? 32. Affliate PT from either SHL/PBE. The Weeks must match with the timeframe of this UW. And you may only use a max of 1. Contact your local PPT Team Member if you are confused for any of the prompts or in general need any help with anything! RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - OrbitingDeath - 08-23-2021 [2.5 TPE] 22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? So I have not given this a lot of thought, but I would hire one of these acapella groups and hope their voices can reach far into the (at least 20 people should be watching right) stands. As the stadiums are probably not so crowded due to nobody caring about sim league football and covid still being a thing, I believe acapella could work. There are actually nice ones around, one of my favourite songs is one that is being done by a group that twists Disney songs around, so when they start it begins with “I catfished a girl” , which is basically Aladdin’s a whole new world. And the list of these fun twists of the songs goes on and on, I believe this would be a really entertaining halftime show that at least half of the people (so about 10) will have a laugh! We can't just stop with just the music, so for all of the parts of the songs that come by, we will have live entertainment of people in the disney suits, but since the images are all copyrighted and we dont want to pay disney, we ordered look a like suits from aliexpress or wish.com ,we doubt anyone notices the difference. This should give a good halftime show for the event of the week! [2.5 TPE] 23. Create a billboard ![]() [2.5 TPE] - 31. The World Football Association was established last season and is currently playing out for the first time. What do you think about the WFC as a whole and how it has been shaping out. Do you think it will end up a success? I like the idea of the world football association, you see tournament for countries happen in more sim leagues, usually called the world cup. This gives people a chance to get to know new people, as a lot of times people are really static in movement and won’t leave their teams, so this rewards those staying loyal, by still giving them a new environment to get to know the others in the league. It also opens up a nice possibility to gain some new rivalries. I think it is a good thing that the United States is split up in multiple teams, giving the amount of creates in that country. I believe this will be a big success and people will actually start creating with certain WFA teams in mind. Can’t wait to see how the first edition will go. Despite having two other max earning running backs on the team, the federation leader let me know there will be a starting role on the receiving end. I really like it as it wouldn’t make sense for my player to line up for a different region. The WFA also contributed to media activity on the forums already, with analysis of teams and possible free agents, but also logo creation for the teams. You can see the league is already embracing this idea. Who was the Ultimus Game MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) Milke Boss Jr. gets to go to fucking Disneyland, wooptie fucking doo. So he gets to fly all the way from the city I did not know existed before it became a ISFL team, Sarasota to Orlando and goes to the most magical place on earth and you will never guess who he gets to fucking meet when he got there. All his favorite charachters from all his favorite disney movies, charchters like, the little mermaid, Donald Duck, Goofy, Princess Jasmine, Buzz Lightyears, Thumper from the bambi movies, Huey, Dewey, but not louie, because his actor had the flu and stayed at home sick and they couldnt find someone to replace the actor, Captain Hook, Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Toulouse, Mister Smee, Dopey, Doc, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Grumpy, Evil Queen, Gus Gus, Fairy Godmother, Pinocchio from the 1940 film named Pinocchio, Honest John and also Gideon, Queen Elinor, Flynn Rider, Baloo, Simba, Robin Hood, Sherrif of Nottingham, Pongo, Winnie the Pooh, Kanga & Roo, Li Shang, Belle and the Beast, Timothy Q Mouse, Esmeralda, Lilo and Stitch and even Zazu from the Lion King movies. It was truely a wonderful day for Gus T.T. Showbiz and his whole family who he had brought along with him on this magical journey. Gus T.T. Showbiz sure hopes he can become MVP next year again so he can go again. [233 words] Code: 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? As a GM player at the time of being drafted into the ISFL I had a very open mind to playing anywhere where I was needed at the time. I created as a safety, because that was my main choice and at the time of the draft it seemed like I would be best suited to stay at safety and replace Buckner who has gone inactive. So it all worked out at the end of the day. However if I could not have created a safety, at the time it would have likely just been whatever the team needed the most. Probably a defensive tackle/wide receiver or an offensive linesman iirc those were pretty big needs at the time. If it was for me personally though, probably would have created as a wide receiver. That is the position I have picked to play with my next recreate, so who knows I could have gone at it a player earlier. After having played defense for a while I can definitatly say it is not extremly interesting to me, I wanna be the guy doing the offensive work for the team. So after already having had a quarterback, a wide receiver just seems like the next logical position to go at it in the offense. [214 words] Code: 27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why? Obviously I think that my own created team that has the best branding, the mascot, the colours, the location. Ofcourse it is all perfect to me, but that feels like it would be cheating, so the team with the second best branding in the league is the Orange County Otters. There is a reason this team has basically had the same logo throughout it's entire existance. It is a timeless classic, which always looks cleans and is orange, which is just a fun colour in general. Also the Otters are just an amazing brand, talk about something original to sports. I have never heard of an Otter related team before. So great colour choice, great brand choice. One of the all time greats branding wise. Do I one day want to represent this branding? I could see a future player looking very cool in the Otter orange. A team that I think could do with a touch up? Probably the Berlin Fire Salamanders. Generally jsut one of the least impressive logos around the league and generally not a fan of the branding choice. If it was on me give it a touch up, it would likely just be a total rebrand. For the international crowd I will still leave it in Berlin. [212 words] Code: 31. The World Football Association was established last season and is currently playing out for the first time. What do you think about the WFC as a whole and how it has been shaping out. Do you think it will end up a success? I love the whole idea around the WFC. I think it is the perfect thing to keep the league entertained during the otherwise mostly eventless offseason. It is the perfect thing for people to get invested in and build new contacts with members of the league. As you will absolutely be meeting new people who you otherwise wouldn't have played with. You get to play for your countries pride and the current breakdown of teams seems perfect. A few teams are a bit worrisome regarding player totals, with Team World not being able to host a full team and teams like Team Canada not being too big either However with the introduction of this tournament I think it gives people more reason to be more selective when creating a player. Do you want to create a player who will have to really fight to earn a spot on the national team like Team Atlantic Midwest or Western or do you pick a team you have an easier time breaking into? Like a team World, Asian Pacific or Canada. All in all I am a huge fan of this addition to the league and applaud Bayler and the rest of the WFC team. My only grip which is not even that big, is that currently games run during the Ultimus Week. Which doesn't feel quite right. Kinda takes away from both competitions, but looking at the schedule I can see why they have to start right now. [246 words] RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - .emfaith - 08-23-2021 16. This task is exclusive to recreate/non-recreate rookies of the S31 class and later. The season is over and the draft is coming up. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season? As a Season 31 Rookie I can talk about myself here for a bit, and I will gladly do so in song form! (If you haven't seen Moana, next!) Anyway, what do I bring to an ISFL team? I bring tenacity and excitement, I bring fresh blood and a whole lot of energy. I bring willingness to succeed and do my best, even if the 'sim is gonna sim' and I dont bring to much to the table at the start. I will always keep my head held high, my energy higher and a positive attitude the highest. I bring a player with the highest TPE for my draft class - let me just check before I continue to claim that. No, not anymore, I bring the second highest TPE player to your team. I have sadly been overtaken, but that's okay, it shows my willing and keenness to earn TPE and do what I can to succeed - I will also soon be overtaken by simo, as he has like a billion recruited players that he can claim, okay 5 but you get the drift, so sadly, he will overtake me too. But for now, I am the second earning TPE player of the class. As for this season, I don't think I'll be winning any awards for Staggs but I will be doing my best and having fun. 228 Words 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here. So the Bondi Beach Buccaneers, are obviously in Australia, and so there are a few things that I would like to see in the new stadium that I have seen in other stadiums across Australia. My first would be an update on the chairs. No-one wants to be dealing with chairs that fling up as soon as you stand. I get that it is convenient and all as you are walking through the rows but they are just not comfortable, so maybe have a little toggle that allows them to stay down and then move it and they fling up. My second addition would be chairs in the colour of the teams colours, an NRL team have these here in Brisbane, and its in a really cool pattern and so would be fun to add here. My third addition that I would like to see is a pool. Yes, you read that correctly, a pool. There are a few cricket stadiums here (as cricket can be an all day event) that have a pool and people can swim and drink the afternoon away. My last addition to the stadium is a mound - this is a grassy hilled part where people can lay out their picnic blankets and have a good old laze in the Australian sun and get sunburnt to a crisp while watching their favourite sport. 227 words 22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? If I was in charge of the half-time show for the Ultimini there would be a few things I would do. I would a) start off the epic show with pitch black and a single light shining down on a stage with a singer standing there, solo and acoustic. They would be singing the Australian National Anthem. After the first verse a second spotlight would shine down on a second singer - people would vaguely recognise them, are they? aren't they? - and they would be making a medley and be starting of the Star Spangled Banner (this is obviously assuming that the Bondi Beach Buccaneers are in the Ultimini or this is kinda pointless). They would then proceed to sing together and music would start coming out from the darkness and then boom, lights would reveal a huge well pieced band and these two homegrown singers who are trying to make their mark on the music world would be the stars of the half-time show. They would perform original pieces and this would be their start to famedom. A choreographed group of school kids would all come out onto the field and start running drills in the 'jerseys' of various players in the two teams (and potentially the league) in time to the music, this might be a bit beyond a bunch of school kids so would probably be school aged kids from local dance studios. 235 words 27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why? I've done this for a media piece and focussed on the minors teams. But now, I guess, I can take a look at the Majors teams here in the ISFL. I want to start by saying, hopefully no-one is reading this and gets offended. But revamp? I think the NOLA Second Line team could do with a change of branding. Firstly, I had no idea what it meant, and maybe that is because celebrations here in Australia are so very different to the celebrations in the US. The term Second Line meant absolutely nothing to me. I feel it is somewhat related to a football theme for a team but is also very loosely connected that it doesn't make sense just as much as it does. All of this being said, I have not looked into the history or wiki or anything. And the team that I think looks good - would hands down be New York Silverbacks. I love the art deco styling (which albeit has nothing to do with football but is cool as all get out) and then the iconic king kong/gorilla in New York. It's all just pieced together so well, feels so classic yet so modern and sleek and I love it. 207 words RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - KC15 - 08-23-2021 PBE Affiliate PT +2.5 TPE 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? +2.5 TPE We are three seasons into the switch from DDSPF16 to 21 and to be honest I probably don’t know enough about this to judge on my own independent analysis. However, I have been listening to some of the experienced GMs and others who have more intimate knowledge of the sim and leaning on their assessment, I would definitely say that the switch was worth it. I have two main reasons I think DDSPF21 is better. Traits – I really think the addition of traits was a huge improvement. We only have so many stats and with the meta out there, it is tempting for everyone to follow the exact same logic and then all of our players end up looking exactly the same. With traits, there is at least some incentive to follow the meta of one of several different kinds of players within a position and we get a little differentiation in the league because of it. I also think traits are a good addition as it gives incentive to improve some stats you might otherwise not think valuable in order to gain the clearly valuable trait that is built on top of those attributes. Player Value – I didn’t really know what to call this, but what I mean is that it seems to the vets I spoke with that with the change in sim engine, every position benefits from a strong earner. There used to be more positions where if you were an average earner or a max earner, there just wasn’t that much difference in performance. With the new sim, even positions that were once considered TPE non-intensive seem to become very much more valuable if the user does earn above the average. That’s huge for me since I tend to earn well. I don’t want to “waste” that earning on a position that doesn’t benefit from it and that reduces my choices. Now I have a wider field of choice. Code: 323 words 10. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league. +5 TPE Tobias Worthington III grew up in an upper middle class to lower tier wealthy family in Greenwich, Connecticut. In fact, his family is fairly prominent in the area with roots going back to the first free black families of the 1700s. Education has always been prized in the Worthington family and all members of it are expected to do their best and even excel in academic pursuits. Tobias lived up to that expectation doing well enough in his early years to attend the exclusive Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut where he first began seriously playing football. Both his academic and football success at Choate led to a full-ride scholarship offer from Yale University to play for the Bulldogs or Elis as they are often called. It is at Yale that Tobias Worthington III first began to be called by the nickname that has stuck with him in all walks of life – TB3. TB3 began his Yale football days as a Wide Receiver, but he had experience on the defensive line from his time as a two-way player at Choate and the coaches quickly realized that if he combined his speed with the above average strength and ferocity he possessed, he would be much more valuable to the team as a speed rushing Defensive End. This suited TB3 just fine and he had always enjoyed menacing opposing Quarterbacks and making them think twice before they waited any longer for their targets to come open. In his senior year, TB3 set Yale records for most sacks in a game (5) and most sacks in a season (17). He also notched a record for most tackles in a season with 140. TB3 also obliterated the record for most sacks in a career at Yale by taking out the opposing passer 40 times. This success at Yale emboldened him to set his sights on the ISFL and entry through the DSFL junior developmental league. Tobias entered the waiver system late in the S30 season and was picked up by the Bondi Beach Buccaneers. He was supposed to play in games 11-14, but official eligibility papers got held up in red tape and he missed the opportunity to play in the first 2 games. TB3 got his first taste of the DSFL in game 13 vs. the powerhouse Minnesota Gray Ducks (12-1) and found out how high a level the DSFL played at. He had a solid game helping the Buccs stay close to the presumptive champions 27-21 after having lost to this same team in week 6 by a score of 38-14, but did not record a single tackle or sack. This left TB3 aching to get on the board in the final game of the season to impress the scouts from the other DSFL team as he prepares to enter the junior league’s draft in the offseason. Code: 475 words RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Raven - 08-23-2021 fack double posts RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Dp-420 - 08-23-2021 My draft class was the season 30 draft class. In my opinion, this is one of the best draft classes in modern memory. When I sit back and think about my draft class, It kind of shocks me with how many talented active players there actually was in my class. This isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned how unbelievable I think this class really is. Some currently still high earning active players include, Miles Weperom (462, Highest earner in class), Jason Waterfalls (453), Myself, Dustin Parmelee (447), Nick L. Back (439), Calvin Hobbs (439), Vincent Sharpei Jr. (437), Jason Garciaparra (434), Konstantin Selich (434), Ioe Torrent (434), and Sheriff Woody (418) round out the top 10 earners in my draft class, and they are all still active and killing it on the gridiron. You cant forger Tron Carter (417), Don’t Draft (412), Dominos Pizzaman (409), Mason Malone (409), Squidward Tentacles (404), Dee Walt (396), Pepelegs Johnson (391), Andy Fantuz (389), Cliff Burton (384), Bernie Sanders (374), Sal Ami (374), Fuzzy George (365), Rocco Blade (350), Rex Crenshaw (344), Bradley Welch (322), Stewart Hellraiser (321), LaCarpetron Dukemarriot (318) and Owen Reed (308) and that rounds out the top 28 earners from my class, or in other words 2 complete rounds of active football players. That in itself seems like a huge amount of active players but guess what. That’s not it! Still active within the last two weeks would be Tay Swizzle (284), Hex Aqua-Key Ki’ann (275), The Laz (268), Travis Scott (266), Jax Baker (257), Levy Tate (252), Bill De La T. Dauterive (244), Clifford Wilson (243), Madison Beer (243), Matthew Holford (242), CMC’s Burner (234), Yaji Robe (213), Jeremy Crouse (193), Deffo not Leroy Leroy (187), Ripoff CheeseBrand (183), Richard Mansher (174), Caleb Watt (159), Senbyo Korin (133), Sigo Hendricks (103 and lastly DeAndre Henry (64). That’s over 45 active users from my draft class. Which is a large amount, and I don’t care what class you are from, you must admit that much. Of all these names I have rattled off there are even a few players already in the ISFL trying to make a name for themselves. Individuals like Hex Aqua-Key’Kiann, Sal Ami, Bernie Sanders, Dee Walt, Don’t Draft, Nick L. Back, Konstantin Selich, Jason Garciaparra, Miles Weperom & Sheriff Woody have already gotten the call up and are showcasing their skills in the ISFL already! The players left are still in the DSFL, but they are all making a lot of noise in their second go-around in the DSFL. Some are destined to return for a third or maybe even a forth year in the DSFL, but that’s not going to stop them from being high earners so that once they get the call they will be ready to burst onto the scene and dominate from day one. Some draft classes have a handful of hall-of-famers, some draft classes don’t even have one. I think this draft class is going to set the record for amount of hall-of-famers that elected from it. A lot of these players have already rewritten the record books not only for their respective franchises but also for the DSFL as whole. Some . and remember it is only their second season in the developmental league, but they have already etches their names in their franchises history by breaking season records for their ball clubs. All sorts of records have been brought down, records like passing yards in a season, passing touchdowns in a season, receiving yards in a season, receptions, forced fumbles in a season, defensive touchdowns in a game, kick return touchdowns in a season, sacks in a season, tackles in a season and of course the fabled throwing interceptions in a season. If half of these players I have named in this write-up continue to stay active and play as well as they have played I don’t think it is that far of stretch0 to say there will be at least 28 potential hall-of-famers. Can you imagine, having this much success in just one draft class? There are studs all up and down this draft class it is crazy. This draft class has also had its fair share of controversy, which doesn’t always happen to draft classes. The most infamous scandal would be the Kiara Tenoh multi scandal. This scandal rocked the very foundation of the team that draft her in the DSFL, and has left them scrambling to a 1-12 record so far this season, with little reason to believe that they will win their final game of the season. I don’t know if I’d consider it a true multi, as the user was only updating one player, and had reasons for keeping their identities secret, no matter how right or wrong this was of them, it still a scandal, and everyone in this draft class was shocked beyond words when it came out. Next season Im sure will see a bunch more of these players rising to the ISFL and really beginning their marches to the hall-of-fame Code: 840 RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - ZootTX - 08-23-2021 DSFL GM UW Pass RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - By-Tor - 08-23-2021 9. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted? Response: LOL. You guys are in for a treat. Hiring a first-time user who hasn't even been drafted yet as the commissioner of the league? Poggers. Although the threat of everything going to hell in a handbasket looms, I would keep mostly everything the same. Pretty much all my experience with sim leagues is in SHL, and while they have flaws, they seem to be sorted out fairly well. The one thing that SHL has that ISFL does not have is a robust banking system. I love the SHL banking system. It was probably a task and a half to create, too. For those of you who aren't familiar, there is a separate index(?) that shows your personal bank balance as well as the balances of each player in the league. (Check out my bank account here). I can navigate into my bank account and it will show me exactly how much money I have, what I spent, and links to everything. Instead of scrolling back through old training threads or PTs, I can have every dollar that came through my account at the tips of my fingers. This feature really helps in planning out your finances. With each transaction, it shows who made the transaction - to keep accountability. Within the banking system, weekly training buys are made and seasonal coaching (equipment) buys are made as well. Once these transactions are made, the TPE claim is instant. As far as I can tell, the ISFL does not have this type of system. Weekly training is bought through a thread which, to me, can become clunky and cumbersome. Again, to me, the "Transactions" page for each team is not a good system. It is overly complicated for a first time user and provides a lot of opportunities to lose track of money. It's not horrible, but I like being able to see everything I've ever done in front of me. It helps show where myself and others stand instead of using the ?balance bot on discord. I'm sure it would make auditing A LOT easier. Within my first week in ISFL, I was totally lost as to what my balance was. I was concerned that I may not be able to earn all the TPE I could because I was not rich enough. This feeling did not exist for me when I first joined SHL due to this banking feature. I just like the way it FEELS too, I feel so posh using the bank. 10/10 would recommend. And that's my improvement as commish! (423 WC) (5 TPE) 26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? Response: Look, football is a great sport, but it won't last until the year 2100. Too brutal on the brain. People have already figured out that playing football professionally is an almost guaranteed trip to the vegetable garden by the time you are 50. Some say you can't change the sport because football IS smashing heads. I agree with this to a degree, but I think there is room to change the sport to make it more sustainable. This might sound dumb (and probably is), but I think a possible rule change is to make is illegal to receive the ball in a forward motion. Hear me out. When a quarterback throws to a receiver, they must catch is while moving laterally or backwards. This eliminates a lot of the crunching, blind hits. For example, you can run a drag, lateral slant, curl as normal, but the posts and deep balls need to be curled back more to have a lateral catching plane. When I'm thinking of this rule, I'm thinking about the catches where a receiver is splayed out for the catch and a safety comes in the opposite direction and ragdolls him. I think the impact would be lessened if the were moving away from the safety as opposed to into the safety. Idk, food for thought. (218 WC) (2.5 TPE) 27. What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why? Response: This is coming from someone who rally has no idea about the league. In my opinion, the Berlin Fire Salamanders have the best branding in either league. An original mascot, awesome (but not crazy) colors, and a clean logo. I looked through each team and none stand out as well as this team. I am very impressed. Other have cool colors like the Sailfish (2nd place imo) or Coyotes, but color doesn't matter as much to be as the logo and team name. Also, the reason I picked the Fire Salamanders over the Sailfish is the intimidation factor. I feel like "Fire Salamanders" strikes more fear than "Sailfish." As for worst branding, it was an obvious choice, to me. New Orleans Second Line. Look, I don't want to be mean because I'm sure people worked very hard, but you can do better. The logo makes me say "what?" I do like the colors, but...it's only one color? White isn't a main brand color. I don't know, it's just not nearly at the level of all the other teams in the leagues. It almost makes me think this was one of the original teams? Again, please don't hate me for hating - it's just the truth. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? I'm going to take this opportunity to look at not only my season, but also the seasons of my ISFL and DSFL teams. Starting on my own season, it was practically all low lights here. I had 300 fewer yards on just 4 fewer catches, 9 fewer catches of 20+ yards and didn't ever get over 40 yards on a reception either. I managed only one more touchdown than last season, so it's not like I was getting many more targets in the red zone. Realistically, it was a very difficult season for me. In total, I had over 600 fewer yards as I lost kick return duties and started to become a more short yardage option for the team instead. It was a bit disappointing, but it was what the team needed me to be. It didn't really help a lot, though. Tijuana kind of limped forward this season, and only finished 7-6. It felt like we were barely holding on practically all season, and definitely struggled hard when it mattered most as we started the season 3-1, even 4-2 and then sputtered out and collapsed all together. This team needs a kick in the ass, it feels like, and I just don't know that that'll come around in time for us to win the Ultimini. That's further disappointment for me as I know I'll be going up next season and so I've missed my shot at winning something while here. But Colorado is a great team, with a remarkable defense who unfortunately went 8-8, losing 7 of those 8 games by just one score or less. It really seemed like just an unlucky season all around, and ultimately was a disappointment for a lot of people. I know the team will turn it around, and I expect that next season I will put up some good yardage as Colorado Yeeti is going to take flight. Colorado was second in the league in passing this season and had the most attempts by a wide margin. They're the Air Raid offense if I ever saw it, or Air Coryell I guess. While there will be a lot of targets to contend with in Colorado, especially with William Lim there, I think I should be able to make my mark underneath like I did with Tijuana this season and can be a roughly 500 yard receiver for my rookie season. I'll take what I can get and if I can get more, awesome, but I won't be expecting too much here, just to be safe. Quote:Word Count: 424 Quote:21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? I'll be honest, I have no experience with DDSPF16 to really be able to comment on the differences from sim to sim that way. Which begs the question of why I would choose this prompt to do. Well, because I have a lot of experience in other sim leagues -- especially the SHL -- with their sim experiences that I can draw on. One issue that I know is brought up in every simulation is realism. Usually it's brought up regarding certain teams winning or losing consistently. "It isn't realistic for this team to beat that team" is the natural cry of a good team who got unlucky. However, if you look at it, the Jets and Jaguars won games last year. The amount of teams to go 0-16 in the NFL level are rare. I think the realism is fine enough, maybe not the greatest but still good. What I do find concerning with the simulation though is that it does feel like there are metas to it. There will be for every sim, but in the sense that it feels a lot like STHS was for the SHL. It only has so many inputs and outputs, the stuff we see can often not make sense for it to do, and it can seem pretty much random on whether or not you'll do well just by the whims of the sim. This is why really I think test simming is worthless and pointless. Especially in football where you can only do so much. It's one game at a time, maybe two against an opponent. Whatever you test, that one game can go 100 different ways and you may never see 90 of those ways in your tests even if you did 1000 of them. This simulation is not exactly stellar, but it is what we have and that's fine. I can't say if it's better than 16, but I can say that it does remind me a lot of STHS in the SHL, and there is a reason that we moved on from that. If there are metas, if there are ways to work around the edges, teams will do that. That's just a given. There's only so much the head office can do, or a team can do, to stop it. It isn't a perfect sim, but none of them are, and this one should be just fine for a while. Quote:Word Count: 401 Quote:32. Affliate PT from either SHL/PBE.
