This was the first regular season home game in Yeti franchise history, but it was also the first start of Tweed's NSFL career. During the Season 1 preseason, Tweed did not record any carries as Luke Tiernan and Kieran O'Connell both started ahead of him. However, the Yeti management was impressed by Tweed's strong work ethic during the preseason and wanted to reward him with some playing time. In that first start, Tweed recorded 93 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Tweed was recognized as the offensive player of the game as the Yeti beat the Hawks 23-20 for the first win in franchise history. After a strong debut performance, Tweed was no longer a bench player and the Yeti ultimately adopted a 3 running back system for the rest of Season 1. The second most memorable moment of Tweed's career occurred in the Season 1 NSFC championship game. Despite playing at home, the Yeti were considered underdogs as many analysts believed the Wraiths were hitting their stride at the end of the season after going 5-2 in the second half of the season while the Yeti appeared to be falling apart as they finished the season 2-5 after a 6-1 start. However, the Yeti went on to shock the doubters as they won 13-6. Tweed finished the game with 73 yards on 17 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. This wasn't the most impressive game of his career, but it set the single game playoff rushing yards record for Season 1. Tweed performed well when the stakes were high, and it allowed the Yeti to become the first ever winners of the Glacies Trophy. The third most memorable moment of Tweed's career actually occurred during a loss in Week 1 of Season 2. During Season 1, the Yeti ran a backfield by committee, but they named Tweed as the sole lead running back entering Season 2 as Tiernan switched to the linebacker position and Tweed overtook O'Connell in training during the off-season. With this new role, there was new pressure on Tweed to prove himself worthy of a leading role in the rushing game. Despite opening the season on the road in Yellowknife, Tweed had the best game of his career. He ran for 125 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. This set a single game rushing yards record that was broken later in Season 2, however it took Mackworthy 11 more carries to surpass Tweed's single game record. Tweed's performance was a rare combination of volume and efficiency from a running back and may be the best single game performance by any running back. While the Yeti ultimately lost that gamme 27-17, Tweed made a name for himself as one of the top running backs in the league with his big single game performance in his first start as a lead back. (S3) - PT #3 - Flashback - ralz9 - 09-25-2017 PIERNO PULLS OFF UPSET IN COLLEGE DEBUT When Nicholas Pierno first took the field for NC State his freshman year, the Wolfpack were a paltry 2-7. The competition that weekend was in Death Valley as the Pack traveled to Clemson. Pierno had no idea he was going to play, but when the Pack’s starting senior quarterback went down on the first play of the game, his number was called. It wasn’t pretty as the rain poured down on the grass—many called the game a fluke because of it—but Pierno finished 10-for-20 for 69 yards and a TD and ran 25 times for 111 yards and a TD as the Pack pulled off a 17-16 upset win over the then-undefeated Tigers. PACK DOWN HEELS TO ADVANCE TO ACC TITLE GAME Anyone from North Carolina knows that there’s some serious inner-state beef between the state’s premier ACC programs: Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest and even East Carolina of the AAC. No matter the record when these teams played, especially NC State and North Carolina during the NCAA rivalry week, both squads came in on equal footing. After achieving wins over East Carolina and Wake Forest earlier in the season, Pierno had one opponent standing between him and an ACC Championship game appearance: the Tar Heels. In front of a packed crowd at Carter-Finley Stadium, Pierno led a 98-yard drive down the field, passing for 61 yards and running for another 37 as he punched in the game-winning score as time expired to give the Wolfpack a 45-43 victory. The student section rushed the field and tore down the goal posts in what Pierno calls “the greatest day” of his life. PIERNO WINS NSFL DEBUT ON GAME-WINNING DRIVE Despite not having a lot of NSFL experience, Pierno’s first-ever weekend in the league was one to remember. Sure, it was a match-up of two of the bottom-tier teams in the league and Pierno finished the game with a paltry line of 13 for 28 for 144 yards and three interceptions, but when it mattered most, he stepped up to the plate, passing for 72 of the Yeti’s 76 yards on the game-winning scoring drive that secured the 14-10 victory. (S3) - PT #3 - Flashback - Admin - 09-25-2017 The first big game Josh Garden ever had in the National Simulation Football League was in week 2 of season 1. He managed 5 receptions for 119 yards and 1 TD in what would be the first of many big games for the Yellowknife Wraiths top receiver. In week 10 of season 1, Josh Garden put up what would be a record setting day at the time. He had 5 receptions for 131 yards that day and the receiving yards record of 131 yards stood until season 2 when it was broken. During week 9 of season 2, Josh Garden had one of the best games of his career, catching 7 balls for 126 yards and 1 TD. He has had games with more receptions, or more yards, or more TDs, but all around this was one of the most well rounded games Josh Garden had in his young National Simulation Football League career. Now in his third season in the league, Josh Garden has had many great performances under his belt. He is in the discussion every season as the best receiving in the league and the future is bright for the Yellowknife Wraiths star wide out. Josh Garden insists the best is yet to come from him, so be on the lookout for him to put up even better statistics in the future. 225 words (S3) - PT #3 - Flashback - cosbornballboy - 09-25-2017 With Ricardo Sandoval being drafted 7th in the NSFL draft and immediately making an impact in the league, let's throw it back to the three most memorable college moments. 1. The Sack This may be the moment that most stands the test of time, albeit not the most outstanding. In his sophomore season, San Diego State was playing against the University of Texas. Senior QB Colt Matthews dropped back to pass on the third play from scrimmage. What happened next was phenomenal. All the sudden, a flash of red and black came from the inside of the offensive line. Matthews, looking for a pass on the right side, was impervious to the pass rush coming from the middle on his left. Sandoval geared up and launched himself at Matthews. There was a noise heard on TV even as the air left Matthews and he was put on oxygen for the rest of the game. 2. The Pick This play showed the more athletic, JJ Watt-as-a-DT side of Sandoval. At the 10 yard line of SDSU as USC was driving down in his Junior Year, The QB for the Trojans, Lee Tryson, threw a bullet to his slot receiver running a bounce over the middle. Sandoval threw his hands up and SOMEHOW came up with the ball. He then ran it back to the 25-yard line of USC before the half ended, resulting in 3 points in the form of a field goal. 3. The Winner The most memorable moment in his career in the NCAA came in the Orange Bowl against Ohio State University. Running Back Elliot Zeke took the ball up the gut at the end of a game where they were down 5. With the time expiring, it looked as if when Zeke busted through the hole, it would be over. The hole opened up and as he ran to the end zone, at the 1, he was stopped from behind. Sandoval has grabbed him, and he threw him back to keep him from breaking the plane and allowing SDSU to win the Orange Bowl. (S3) - PT #3 - Flashback - 7hawk77 - 09-25-2017 One week that sticks out for Dan Miller was week four of season 1 where he was playing for the sabercats against the arizona outlaws. He managed to pick up 9 tackles and 4 sacks. On top of that the other interior defensive lineman Bert Metas also had an amazing game. Vincent draxel was getting completely destroyed by the combo of interior linemen. Dan was bigger and stronger where Bert Metas was faster. It was the hammer and nail combination that really sealed the game away. Seeing that combination work influenced the sabercats to get an interior rusher defensive tackle to partner up with Dan Miller. This is the main reason why they targeted Chambers the Third. Season 2 was pretty bad for Dan. He had some ok numbers later in the year but was really just another guy. Going back to college, he only played 1 year of college football before joining the NSFL. His first game as a defensive tackle playing for LSU against Mississippi state ended up 5 sacks and 3 passes deflected and 4 tackles. He had pretty good numbers for college but this was definitely his best college game. This current season has definitely been kind to Dan. He's currently leading the league in Forced fumbles and fumble recoveries as well as leading all Defensive Tackles in Tackles and sacks. 225 words (S3) - PT #3 - Flashback - bluesfan55 - 09-25-2017 As a rookie, I don't have many NSFL moments that stand out for me. However, I have one particular college game that I'll look back on fondly: the College Football Playoff final against Ohio State. It was my senior year, and Vanderbilt was a dark horse candidate for the SEC East title. We won the East on the final day of the season, beating Florida 17-10. We barely won the SEC final too, beating Alabama 20-17. After handily defeating 2 seed USC 45-21 in the semis, we played Ohio State in the final, and it was a close affair. They were up 28-26 with 15 seconds left when our QB threw a 17 yard pass to get us within field goal range. I was able to make that 57 yard kick to win us the College Football Playoff. I remember my whole team carrying me off the field. It's a day I'll never forget. (S3) - PT #3 - Flashback - Raven - 09-25-2017 Quote:Written: Must include 200 words. Talk about three memorable moments from your career, college or pro, that stand out in your mind. Turkleton was part of the first ever draft class and has been around for every game played since then. So let's see what memorable moments Turk has had in his career. [div align=\\\"center\\\"]- 57 yards -[/div] While the second season of the NSFL had a lot of kicker reach the 57 yard achievement, there was one kicker who was able to kick this distance the first and that kicker was Turk Turkleton in week 1, Baltimore Hawks vs the Las Vegas Legion. While the Hawks did end up losing the game 16 to 10 reaching the furtest kick in league history was a great accomplishment. [div align=\\\"center\\\"]- Season 2 Kicker of the year -[/div] Season 2 brought a tough vote for the award commity. Both Turkleton and Booter had set a very good season. In the end however it was Turk Turkleton who was awarded the award. Turkleton was honored to have been selected and he cherished the award dearly. [div align=\\\"center\\\"]- Cliching playoffs with U.C. Davis -[/div] In the final game of the season U.C. Davis was just one point short of making the playoffs with their rival the Sacramento State Hornets being tied with them. A lose to the Hornets would mean no playoffs football and their rivals going on to the playoffs. It was late in the 4th, Davis trailing 27 to 29 when U.C Davis went into their 4th down. They decided to go for the field goal. 45 yards was the distance to beat. A lot of pressure was on Turkleton in this moment. The fans were cheering, with only a few seconds left to go in the game it was now or neveer. With a beautiful kick the balls flies straight at the uprights and goes throught. Turkleton is named man of the match by Davis and they go on to play playoff football. (S3) - PT #3 - Flashback - Kendrick - 09-25-2017 Three of my most cherished memories in the NSFL are written in history. The first would be winning the Ultimus Championship in the first season of the NSFL's existence. It was a good win and something that will live on forever. We were a team all over the map but we ended up being one of the brightest stories coming out of the draft. The second memory is being drafted fourth overall in the first round of the first draft. The value of my talents was obviously put into perspective and as one of the only remaining first round players from that draft, it's special to be one in a hundred. The draft was a disappointment from my standpoint and now I see that my worries about Arizona are justified given their lack of communication with me regarding my future with that franchise. They were always looking elsewhere for suitors for me which is kind of harsh considering the effort I gave on their squad. The last memory I have that is great is winning the second Ultimus Trophy with Arizona and in turn having more championship rings than the loud mouthed Stormblessed who is still a few steps behind me. It's great knowing he hasn't done anything since the first season. |
