Draft day was a bag of mixed emotions for me. Two teams approached me in the offseason expressing high interest, since I was one of only three kickers to declare. Come draft day, I was the most developed kicker in the draft. All good football teams need a good kicker, so I expected to be drafted somewhere between the 7th and 10th round. Not an unreasonable projection, as there are plenty of positions more game-changing that'll be picked in the earlier rounds, but also so few kickers that the position will be highly valued.

The 1st to 6th rounds pass without any kickers being picked, as expected. 7th round comes. 5 picks in, a kicker is selected. But it's not me. I think to myself "Okay, perhaps all 3 kickers are about to go at the same time." I was wrong.

The 7th round finishes up. The 8th round passes. Then the 9th. 10th. 11th. Then the 12th comes around. Another kicker is selected. But it's not me. the 12th round then passes entirely. At this point I began to panic. 12 whole rounds had passed, and two kickers, one of which hadn't even logged on since being created, had been picked before me.

I quickly reminded myself that there was still one team remaining that wanted me. That team, the Portland Pythons, would go on and pick me in the 13th round of the draft. I was overjoyed to have been picked by a team that wanted me, but also mad that 5 other teams had passed on me. My goal now is to prove to those teams that they made a mistake.

There were no surprises for Cooter on draft day. Cooter wasn't expecting a certain team to take him or anything, but it was really no surprise that he was going to go 1st overall in the DSFL draft. You see Cooter's whole life he is used to being number 1 in everything. When they pick guys for a pickup basketball game in grade school, Cooter went first. When the new hot girl transferred into the high school, Cooter got there first. When scouts were coming from college too watch the new draftees play, Cooter was seen first. When a car is stolen in town and the cops start questioning people, Cooter goes first. So when Cooter chose his number he wears in football, he decided to wear #1. And when Cooter was going to be drafted into professional simulation football he knew that no matter what team held the first pick, they were going to be drafting him first. So as Cooter sat there with the cameras on him, smiling as the commissioner walked to the podium to announce the pick, he knew exactly how things were going to play out, just the way they always had. And when it comes time for Cooter to take the field and compete for the Ultimus, his team will finish first.

Alex thinks about his draft day experience quite fondly. He was scouted by quite a few NSFL teams back then and felt really good about the interviews and thought that he would be a surefire top 5 pick in the fairly good S11 NSFL Draft. There were rumors about various teams selecting him but he kinda had a feeling that it would be between Arizona and another undisclosed team. Draft day came and Alex was in his home country of Germany together with his family and his relative with NSFL experience Alexander Selich who also was selected at the very top of the inaugural first NSFL Draft back then.

Alex looked at the Stream and saw the first name being called which was Lennox Garrett by the Liberty and then his name was already called together with another Coyotes player called Andrew Reese which meant they are teammates again which was quite a nice calming thought since the 2 became friends during their time in Kansas City. Alex's mom immediately hugged him and him dad gave him a wink and mouthed the words I am proud son. The Owner of the Outlaws welcomed Alex to his franchise and mentioned that he is looking forward to Alex anchoring the Arizona defense for quite a while.
