(S20) - Ultimus Week - yonggarius - 02-22-2020

1)playoff review
The Austin Copperheads were projected as an underdog before the ultimus bowl, but ended up dominating it.
First major event of the game occured at 9: 20 first quarter, as yellowknife's quarterback Bigsby threw an interception to Austin safety Okura, which almost became a pick six. Austin scored on the very next play, as quarterback Cole found Clay in a first and goal situation. Yellowknife was given two oppertunities via turnovers-a fumble and an interception- but failed to utilize both opportunities, each resulting in a punt and a missed field goal. Then Cole connected with Tidwell in end zone, making the score 14-0 in the end of the first quarter. Yellowknife's first score happened in mid second quarter, when donaldson kicked ina 19 yard fg after two misses. But Cole and Austin responded with a touchdown in the very next drive, again to Tidwell. Yellowknife finally managed to score a touchdown in late 3rd quarter-after each teams traded a field goal each- when Bigsby found Swift in a 7yd play. Austin swiftly responded with two field goals and a touchdown, making the score 37-13. Yellowknife managed to score another touchdown late in the 4th quarter, but the fate of the game was already decided. Austin was able to win this game based on their superior defence, which stopped Yellowknife ruching offence quite well. Yellowknife struggled to score with two missed field goal by Donaldson and lack of explosive rushing attack, their most important offensive strategy.

6)expansion
Building an expansion team from scratch is a very hard process, as small mistakes or lack of insight can lead to devastating consequences. As such, having a definite list of priorities is most important in the progress. Here, I'm listing two most important things in building an expansion team.
First, sign some respected veteran players to act as a leader. An expansion team is bound to have a large amount of inexperienced players who need a leader to help them function as a team, as opposed to as an individual as those inexperienced players usually tend to do. Even if those renowned veterans take up a fair bit of the salary cap, their crucial roles in the teams warrent those money. Plus, they will add more fans to the team. However, in this case those veterans must be selected carefully, and with focus on both ability and leadership. Otherwise they might prove to be detrimental to the team, especially when the veteran turns out to be a no leader.
Second, build a good front office. Expansion teams rely heavily on drafts. So a good GM, who can find good prospects will be needed. On top of that, front office of the new team is tasked with building the team culture of the team, which can hinder a team's development for years if not set properly. So, a large and highly specialized front office is needed, as smaller front offices tent to give GM more power, and said GM is often too overburdened to look after the culture aspect of the team.

8)Scouting Report
William Lim is certainly an interesting prospect. Born in South Korea, Lim was originally played baseball -the country's most popular sport-until high school as a shortstop, when his lack of strong arm and low batting average held him from being drafted to the pros despite his good fielding abilities. Lim was scouted to attend seoul university, and subsequently changed sports to football after being scouted by the school's non-scholarshipped football team after quitting baseball in his sophomore season. That decision turned out to be a lifechanging one, as he emerged as one of the top wide receivers of Korea in his junior season. Lim made his name known to american scouters as several videos of him making one-handed catches as well as his game footages went viral in the youtube. Lim declared for the DSFL draft after that, starting his journey as the first Korean WR to play in the league.
Lim's best attribute as a prospect is his hands and his work ethic. Standing at 6'2'', 195lbs, Lim possess a good hand. He rarely drops a pass headed his way and excels in contested catch situations. Also Lim is renowned for his rigorous training and never having off- field issues. Generally, Lim is a well- rounded player, having decent speed and agility as well as his good hands.
11)playoff MVP
The MVP of the ultimus bowl should be Easton Cole, Austin Copperheads' quarterback. Cole dominated the ultimus bowl with his 322 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. Cole especially shined in clutch moments like the end of first quarter, when he drove down the field 78 yards to the end zone in just 6 plays and 3 minutes, and swung the momentum of the game firmly back to Copperheads' side after the team committed two consecutive turnovers(a fumble and an interception) and was losing momentum in the offence. Cole then proceeded to cement the Copperheads' lead by throwing a 23- yard touchdown, his third of the day, to Tidwell right after the Wraiths scored their first points of the game, squandering the hope and chances of the wraiths' comeback. Cole proceeded to play well in the second half, eventually throwing another passing touchdown, which cemented the win. Cole's performance-bar an interception in late second quarter- was constant throughout the whole game, and yet became electrifying in key moments, like aforementioned touchdown drives. After this performance, I have no doubt that he deserves the MVP for the biggest game of the NSFL season, and I also hope that he shows us electrifying performances like he did on the ultimus bowl in the future.

Interview a Star: Interview a player who is in either of the league’s playoffs this year. You must ask at least four questions, at least three of which must relate to the league. YOU MUST POST THE QUESTIONS AND THEIR ANSWERS FOR CREDIT.

WateringCan(Tristan Gronlie)
Just So I know who You are give me your player name, team, and position ect..

Juniped (Juniped Catfish)
Juniped Catfish | Norfolk Seawolves | Running Back

WateringCan(Tristan Gronlie)
Thank You
Question 1. This is the smallest question what's was your draft pick and have you improved or shown yourself

Juniped (Juniped Catfish)
I was drafted round 6 at 32OA. I think at the time that was fair. I was not nearly one of the top Running backs and I got drafted behind names like Ed barker and Baby Yoda. WHile they still may be better than me I've shown that I have the ability to be a consistent Offensive force on Norfolk. With a 164 Yard game under my belt and that crazy return game I had vs Myrtle Beach, I think I've only gotten faster and stronger as the season has gone on.

WateringCan(Tristan Gronlie)
Thank you for that amazing answer. It is really good.
Question 2. I wanna ask what year you are playing and if your going to the NSFL next year and If so do you think you can improve even farther than you were

Juniped (Juniped Catfish)
This was my first year so I'm entering the NSFL Draft. I have hopes to be playing in the NSFL next season but I'm not sure if the team that drafts me will have room. However I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help contribute to my team if that means I have to change positions or get sent back down to Norfolk. I only plan on getting faster and if I get sent down to the DSFL maybe I can even break more records to prove I belong in the NSFL

WateringCan(Tristan Gronlie)
Question 3. If you could change your character all over again change stats, relationships with other players basically a time machine for the DSFL would you?

Juniped (Juniped Catfish)

Hmmm that's a good question. I don't know for sure if I would change positions, I might put more of my initial points into Speed. But if I did change I think I would change to be a WR, being a RB is super competitive and hard to break into haha. I can't imagine being drafted anywhere but norfolk though and I wouldn't change that for anything.

WateringCan(Tristan Gronlie)
Question 4:
MLR have you enjoyed it and what is your position for it basically tell me about MLR

Juniped(Juniped Catfish)
:
oh MLR Lol well I love MLR. I'm a head captain in that league of the Baltimore Orioles and the head scout. meaning I'm in charge of pulling that data on basically a number guessing game. I'm a baseball man at heart. So it's just a game where teams guess numbers to simulate baseball games. It's not super easy to explain in kind of a place like this but that's the basics. haha what made you ask?
9) Brotherly Love
Written: We always talk about what teams and players are our rivals. This season, give me what team or player you have a soft spot for.
I have a soft spot for MB (myrtle Beach) ever since the beginning they have helped me through everything and when I was gone for a week due to busyness and other stuff they treated me the exact same and they are great people and a great team. They are a really great team and their GMs are great people but I could write even more about the team but I am at a loss of words for how kind and helpful they have been to me. They are the team that helped me get into this. I think I would have lost interest in two hours if it was not for MB GMS. They are a great team. I hope that maybe I can be drafted to them or something would be amazing who knows though. They were kind and helpful and I am just at a loss of words to talk about them. I do not know what to even say there is so much to say about MB. They have been kind and grateful. I know that I may be repeating myself but I just can not spot thanking MB and how much they have helped me through the process.

6) Expansion

Expansion in a simulation league such as ours would have a few important differences when contrasting it to an expansion in a league such as the NFL. Typically, there would be an expansion fee that would be paid by the incoming owner, to all the other teams. This fee would be categorized as “revenue” for the league, and would work to increase the salary cap. This transaction between the relevant parties could of course be simulated in this league, and an accompanying boost to the salary cap could be in order. Another key difference that could be easily remedied, would be how to go about an expansion draft. Recently the NHL, another major sports league, has undergone one expansion draft with the introduction of the Vegas Golden Knights. In this draft, teams had the opportunity to either protect a player with one of their 11 picks from their own team. Alternatively, teams could pay the incoming team with draft picks to not take certain players. The rest of the players were fair game and could be chosen by the new team. This was so effective that the incoming team made it to their sports equivalent of the super bowl. I would institute this draft for NSFL teams to give them a fair chance. However, for a DSFL team I think I would merely give them extra draft picks. Therefore If I were in charge of one of these teams, I would advocate accordingly for an expansion draft that gave me the odds to succeed, in a way that the Vegas Golden Knights were able to succeed. In addition, I would focus on developing young players and pay the ones who show great potential so that they could take that money to further improve themselves. The increase to the salary cap would allow me to do this, and the lack of bad contracts on the team would give me the flexibility I needed to sign my stars early on without being hampered by a contract to a player that isn’t performing how he is being paid.

8) Scouting Report

An up and coming Superstar, Quinn Hughes, who enjoys writing in the third person, will be entering the DSFL this coming draft. A natural born secondary player, he possess the intelligence needed to be in the right place, and the physical attributes to get him there. Quinn grew up playing Corner and Wide receiver in highschool, before being transition to safety by his college defensive coordinator Tom Lady. With the ability to sit back for the first few moments of each play and read the quarterback and his receivers, Quinn is able to deny an entire deep half of the field, forcing the quarterback to work down his progression list or dump off to a checkdown. Quinn’s ability to read the game stems from not only his football IQ, but his dedication to learning each of his opponents. By gameday each week, Quinn has developed an entire manual on each of the opposing teams offensive coordinators favorite plays and schemes. He shares that with the rest of his secondary, and works with them to ensure that each week, the opposing QB must go through hell. Quinn’s goal each game is to make the other team run the ball, not to establish any resemblance of an offence, but because running the ball is all they can do. When this happens, Quinn loves to sit in a cover 3 as the single high safety, with the box stacked against the run, daring the QB to throw deep towards him. In these situations, Quinn feasts and runs up his stats with knock downs and interceptions

1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews:

In the first round of the NSFL playoffs, we had the Baltimore Hawks facing the Colorado Yeti. The reason I wanted to review this game, was because the game was decided by a field goal. Out of all the playoff games, this was the only one that had a nail biting finish. First we will take a look at the starting quarterbacks for each team. McDummy led his team well in the opening round of the playoffs, with a QB rating of 83.8, threw for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the otherside of the ball Havran had a QB rating of 79.5, threw for a whopping 322 passing yards with 2 touchdowns. He did throw one interception which was the only turnover in the game. This extra possession for the Colorado Yeti, was probably a big reason they won the game. The rushing game for both teams were held scoreless and not a huge impact in the game. Baltimore was more dominant through the air, as Maddox picked up 139 yards with one TD and Landers 97 yards. The Yeti had Forty-Two receive for 113 yards with 1 TD. However the rest of the receivers were held for less than 50 yards each. Baltimore would score a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to bring the score to 26-29, but the costly turnover would do them in as the Colorado Yeti would hang on and win.

4) Rivalry

I can't say that they have a rivalry with me, but I am really enjoying trying to beat SabaDonut as a wide receiver. We both had fantastic seasons, but he would edge me out in receiving yards by four. Four whole damn yards. That was a tough one considering how close the race was down the stretch. He also had one more touchdown than me, which was throwing a little bit more salt in the wound. All in all it was a fun maybe one sides rivalry. I do have to give him credit though, he had 20 less receptions than me and put up fantastic numbers. Averaged 5 more yards a reception and had a long of 66 yards. Now, with that said. He better get use to eating my dust from here on out. I will be taking over the primary wide receiver role in Chicago and leaving him in my rear view. For me this is a very friendly rivalry. I got to know SabaDonut during my DSFL days when I was a Portland Python. Now that we are both in the NSFL, I really want to be the better wide receiver. And I think being the top guy in Chicago gives me a really good chance next season.

5) Armchair GM

For the sake of not being hit with tampering charges, I am going to right this media as a team needs and where they can find those pieces. I have been on the Chicago Butchers since I was drafted in season twenty. It took a lot of internal changes to get where we are but I truly believe we have the right people leading this team now. The team made some controversial moves during the middle of season twenty. But immediately those trades started to shape the identity of our team. We still had a lot to improve on the defensive side of the ball even with the trades. After the recent off season changes of Ryan Leaf Jr to our new running back and Ahri moving to defense. I knew the priority for the team was bringing in as many defensive players as we could with the remaining cap. I expect our management will be reaching out to all the top defensive free agents this off season and making a strong case for why Chicago is the best fit for them. And I also expect us to draft 3 defensive players with our first 3 picks. We could also use a tight end, if one falls to us, but I think the theme this off season and draft is defense, defense and defense.

7) Next Year

I know what you all are thinking, Chicago Butchers winning something? I know in my experience in sim leagues everyone loves having a common team to trash talk. And rightfully so, that team was Chicago, but I truly believe this team will make the playoffs in season twenty one. All the moves we have made, everyone buying in. I think we have a real shot this year. And as the saying goes, anything can happen in the playoffs. We showed at the end of season twenty, we can win big games against top teams in the league like Orange County Otters and the eventual Ultimus Champions themselves, the Austin Copperheads. The team has made a lot of improvements on the defensive side of the ball. And as we continue to slot in more and more defensive depth, I know the offense can do the rest. We have a fantastic QB in Rose Jenkins, who hasn't had a team around her until now. I expect her to have a career year this season and lead this team into uncharted territory. At this point it is just staying the course and silencing all that outside noise. Chicago will no longer be seen as a bye week and if you want to beat us you better come to play.

5) Armchair GM
Written: What moves could your team make to improve for the next year, be it in free agency, keeping players, the draft, etc. (Please be careful to avoid tampering.)
Graphic: Show us a step by step plan for future improvement.

I had a chance to ask DSFL GM Hathias Manyadi a question at his presser.

With the size of the current draft class. It must be quite the undertaking going though all the prospects. How do you go about organizing your draft board? What can a new recruit do to make themselves stand out?

"For me, I see the size of the draft as a bonus. It means certain players that might have gone in the first round will drop to the second or even third round thanks to the amount of talent all throughout. So it means you can get better talent without having to trade up so much.”

The depth of this draft class will have several impacts on both the DSFL and NSFL. The DSFL is already expanding to two teams and there is a lot of speculation about additional NSFL teams. As GM Hathias pointed out, in the DSFL there is going to be value throughout the draft. If a team is able to hit on this draft they are setting themselves up for a huge advantage. There is going to be a lot of attrition and they will need to make smart choice based around long term success. For the NSFL, A team that stacks draft picks will be able to set a whole new foundation in the next draft as the depth should translate from the DSFL.

6) Expansion
Written: There have been a lot of new players entering the league recently. If you were in charge of a new expansion team for the NSFL or DSFL, how would you go about it?

Octavio Clemente Scouting report

STRENGTHS Plays with tremendous natural speed. Has speed in his hands and upper body to shed blockers without much effort when it?s time. Sneaky lateral foot quickness. Uses quick feet and shoulder turn to leverage him into gaps for disruption. Flashes some occasional ""quick win"" hand work as pass rusher.Has talent and speed to do what he wants on some snaps. Can generate a heavy pocket push when he gets some knee-bend going.

WEAKNESSES Will lockout his long legs on too many snaps. Upright play style limits his leverage and balance against down blocks. Motor will run out of gas if he's forced to chase after play for very long. Average ball instincts. Change of direction can be inconsistent due to pad level. Flashes pass rush talent, but too content to lay on blockers when early rush fizzles. New to football. Will need to study technique and playbook. Strength lacking for someone his size. Need to talk Strength training serious to make impact at next level.

Projects as a situational pass rusher who can rush from the inside as well as kick outside on passing downs. A Project pick that will need time to develop. He has tremendous upside as a pass rusher. Not a strong run defender at this point.

6) Expansion

This is coming from a new player, so take it with a grain of salt. I need to learn more about the mechanics of the game. If I'm in charge, though, I'm building my front lines. Speed seems to me one of, if not, the most important attribute in this game, but speed doesn't work without time and space. Both lines impact both offensive and defensive facets of the game. Edge rushes and ends who can set a corner and turn a running back back inside minimize the size of the field and make it easier for defensive players to get their hands on the running back, Similarly, a QB who is struggling to find both passing and running lanes is going to struggle to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers.

On the offensive side, a good line can allow even mediocre running backs to find daylight, making ANY running back successful. The line also provides the QB with the time and space he needs to find his receivers.

I’m not quite sure of the salary scales yet, but my experience has been that “skill” position players tend to get huge paydays and are more inconsistent that the lines. By investing in the front lines, new team give themselves the chance to stop their opponents and score points. They will be less averse to game-changing turnovers and keep games close.

8) Scouting Report

Pros: Chester Sweets is a long, rangy CB who can be effective in all aspects of the defense. He is long, tall, and strong. He's got a pop that will stop a WR and interrupt timing routes, but the agility to turn his hips and run on the outside, too. He's smart and always trying to get his hands on the ball. He wants to take it and score, either by fumble or interception. A leader on defense, a coach knows Sweets is a guy he can trust. When it comes to the run game, this #32 looks like he wants to be another old #32, Jack Tatum. Sweets is out there hunting and won’t shy from an oncoming OL. He makes an impact, often turning running backs back inside and making life easier for his linebackers.

Cons: Sweets simply doesn’t have the high end speed that you look for in an outside corner. Although he’s smart, he gets himself in trouble by trying to make a game-changing play instead of the consistent tackle.

Outlook: Sweets brings a lot to any defense, but has work to do. He’s a game-changer, no doubt. He finds a way to get his hands on the ball. He has to stay away from giving up the big play and be more consistent. The best athletes will give him trouble, but who do they NOT give trouble to? If he can get a little faster, he can easily be a CB1, but currently looks to fit in as a nickel, inside guy.

Ceiling Projection: Tramon Williams, GB; Jason McCourty, NE

9) Brotherly Love

Chester Sweets and Buck Thornton are two upcoming S22 draftees and quite the pair. A duo of defensive backfield dynamos (Sweets at CB, Thornton at S), they quickly found themselves leading the pack. Despite being opposite in the most apparent ways, they quickly became close friends. Leading up to a high school all-star game hey constantly pushed each other during practice. Sweets is the more vocal of the two while Thornton leads more by example. "Its that wrestling swag, baby!" shouts Sweets as Thornton almost takes the head off of a crossing receiver during practice. Thornson is obviously excited, but reaches down to lend a hand to the poor wide reciever.

Even though they play the game differently, there is no denying the appreciation these two have for each other. "Man, he doesn't quit. Ever. In the weight room, on the field, playing pool, anything. He knows I'm faster than him, but see my man Buck in the 4th. Dude's barely broken a sweat. And he looks HUNGRY. I'm trying to get like that!"

When playing together, the two were constantly fighting to cover a talented tight end who was causing problems for the defense. “They were both in my ear about trying to shut him down” remarked the defensive coordinator. “I want the best. He wants the best. We work well together to make the team the best we can. Its simple…. But don’t let him tell you he can play in the box like I can,” commented Thornson. The two jogged back to the practice field with Sweets yelling at the offense and Thornson getting his teammates into position.

“Those two, they are trouble. Neither one of them is the most elite athlete, but they absolutely cause problems for the offense. If you don’t know where those two are at, you’ll find out. Quick,” said one of the offensive coaches.

20) Ultimus Ad

Setting: The Ultimus. Its night, and the lights are shining while the fans go crazy. The camera pans into a quarterback, who is behind the center, ready to take the snap. The camera pans to the sweaty, intense faces of players. The scoreboard shows the score 24-20 and the time counting down.

"30..29..28.."

The camera pans over to a cornerback, his eyes focused on the WR in front of him and hands ready to battle, then pans behind him, showing "Sweets", #32 on the jersey. The camera quickly goes back to his face, sweat dripping, and he flashes a quick, knowing smile. The ball is snapped as the camera focuses on Sweets and the receiver, hand fighting and running down the field. The crowd noise silences as we hear the heaving breathing of the two running players. The wide receiver drops his hips, setting them to come back to the throw. Sweets breaks with the receiver, trying to step in front of the receiver. We see the football come spiraling out of the quarterback's hand towards the two. They are battling, pushing and pulling for position. Four hands go up as it goes silent. The football transforms a spinning pizza box as Sweets steps in for the game-sealing interception. He easily outpaces the trailing offensive players as he nears the goal line. Before scoring, he pulls out a slice of pizza, crossing the goal line as his teammates jump onto him, fighting for the pizza.

The camera pans to Sweets' face:

"Now THAT'S an interception" says Sweets as he continues eating. The camera pans out, showing the disappinted opposing team returning to their bench and winning coaches running onto the field with their arms full of pizza boxes as the "Pizza Boys" logo is shown on the screen.

First and foremost, we are going to have fun with this. We are not going to put our team in some crappy midwestern city where we have to compete with the low-A baseball team. We are going to Vegas, baby! Not only are we not worried about gambling and the other temptations of Sin City, we will embrace it fully. There will be a full hotel and casino attached to the stadium with hotel rooms that connect directly to the suites. Drug use, especially performance-enhancing drugs, will be provided as part of the standard contract for the team. Obviously, we are paying off the simmer and streamer as well. I expect us to go undefeated every season. Our draft strategy will be to draft the most crazy players possible. Since we are definitely going to win, we don’t need to worry about talent; we are here to have fun. Did you get three DUIs in college? You’re on the team! Did they find you passed out on a yacht surrounded by cocaine? We’ve got our eye on you. Did you get suspended for your entire senior year due to steroid use? You’re our number one pick. I will keep the rest pretty vague since this is a family friendly league, but there will be plenty of “rewards” for wins and personal performances.

Overall, Norfolk had a pretty solid year. We were an expansion team, so we had no veterans. Our first round pick (and overall number one pick) fell off the map, only updated twice, and ended up with 114 TPE. Since the QB position is so important, it made it difficult to win. However, our GM, Scorp, did a fantastic job. Despite only getting 6-7 players updates per week, he rallied the troops and lead the Seawolves to the third best record in the league. His leadership allowed us to play better than the sum of our parts, and he should be giving strong consideration for the DSFL GM of the year. Aside from his accomplishments on the field and in the front office, he has been a great resource for me while I have learned about this league and improved my player. He has a wealth of knowledge and is always available to help. In the rare case when he does not know the answer, he has found another seasoned player to assist. For example, he put me in touch with a former nose tackle in order to get specific advice for my player build.

Because of the dedication of the GM and the poor hand he was dealt this year, I have no doubt in my mind that the Seawolves will be competitive next year and for many years to come.

This one is easy. The Myrtle Beach Buccaneers locker room is fantastic. I was a waiver pick up during S 19, and the amount of fun and camaraderie displayed is the main reason that I decided to stick around. Although they were not able to draft me for S 20, they allow alumni to stay in a restricted area of the locker room. As mentioned above, my team for S 20 was not very active, so again the Myrtle Beach locker room was a huge factor for me to continue my career. Frost and Cory are a lot of fun, and they do a great job of promoting a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Their team was dominant, especially on defense, and a large part of that is due to their leadership. Because of the fantastic job of keeping players engaged, their team improved faster than others. Of course success breeds more success, which vaulted them to the top of the league. Although they lost in the championship game, they will be competitive for years to come. Maybe after Plop retires, my new player will be able to enjoy a full season on their roster, on their ship, and laying on “MB best B”.

Let’s put a modern twist on a classic. We’re bringing in “Mean” Joe Greene to pass the ceremonial torch to Pete “Plop” Miller. Pepsi isn't the only soda (or pop, for those of you who are weird) that has thrown down heavyweight ads in prime Ultimus slots. Coca-Cola has plenty of offerings we could copy/update, but the one that sticks out the most is arguably the most simplistic. "Mean" Joe Greene's "hey kid, catch" is iconic to this day.

After a ceremony for the greatest defensive lineman of all time, Plop and Greene run into each other in the hallway. Meeting his childhood hero, Plop can barely contain his excitement. He can’t even think of anything to say. Finally, with a trembling voice, he says “I think you’re the best ever. Want my Coke? It’s OK you can have it. Really, you can have it”. As Plop turns to walk away, Joe calls out, “hey Plop, catch”. Plop returns to the field, Greene’s jersey in hand, and the audience can hear the announcers talking about sack after sack, forced fumble after forced fumble, and the game-winning celebration by Plop. “Have a Coke and a smile“, he thinks to himself. What a great way to honor the past and preview the future.

3. Revenge

A team that I would love to get revenge on, hell, I know for a fact that the whole team that I am on would love to get revenge on, would be the Minnesota Grey Ducks. They knocked out the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers out of the Ultimini this season, and I really believe that most of that was because of Home Field Advantage. I truly believe in this team here in Myrtle Beach and I’d bet for a fact that this was one of the most active, strong units I’ve ever seen in my time in this league. We were hurt, betrayed by the sim engine we love so much, because of home field advantage. Myrtle Beach should have beaten Minnesota, and hopefully throughout the next season, Myrtle Beach will show their dominance all around by continuing the strength and family like values the team shows. Myrtle Beach had hands down the best Defense this season, and hell, one of the best defenses ever in the DSFL and were dismantled by Minnesota’s offense. Home Field Advantage really does happen, and it was sad to see such a hard battle thrown away like it was nothing, since we had to go to Minnesota.

6. Expansion

If I was to make another expansion team, I have a few ideas in mind. I would go straight to Head Office with some of these ideas. I would want to make a new team and move them to Honolulu Kings, or Honolulu Tsunami. The Tsunami logo would, obviously be a wave, colored potentially Dark Blue and White, with Tsunami underneath it. The Kings Logo would be a lighter green then what San Jose has, to go with either a purple, or dark brown color, to make the logo pop. It would be a crown. I think that both teams could be fun to Manage, and I think Honolulu would be an awesome concept. Honestly, if we have a team up in Yellowknife (no offense to Yellowknife), then why the hell can’t we have a team out in Hawaii? I would love to make this happen, and hopefully would have a great Co-GM in my mind already. I would build my team to contend now and for the future, by going for older players in the expansion draft that still had a few years left in them and attempt to make some big move plays with my draft picks as well. Clearly, that’s what everyone would say, but hey, I can’t give away all my secrets.

8. Scouting Report

One Player that teams need to take a good, hard look at is no further then John “Tripod” Smirh. Since he has joined the league, he has kicked 30/31 on Extra Points, good for the best Exta Point % in the DSFL this past season at 96.8%. He kicked 24/29 from the Field, which is 3rd best at 82.8%. That really does hurt a bit, but something else that John has done that people haven’t really noticed as he has flown under the radar, is been around every week for every training opportunity that there is. John has missed nothing thus far, and yeah, there are other kickers and players with more Training Time then John, but that is also because of when they came into the league versus when John did. John has been dominating the Training Times and has continued to shine throughout the season. He has a lot on his plate, and he believes that he can become the best kicker the league has ever seen. With some trust from whatever team takes him, look for John to continue to bring his all to the team and work to set records for years to come in whatever team he goes to.

10. Reform

The league is run okay right now, but there are a few things I would try to implement if I was to run the league. First, I would start looking into another sim to attempt to make the game better, if it be a newer version of DDSPF or what have you, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to investigate. Next, I would incentivize filling some of the job positions, and attempt to bring more of the new guys into the ropes with some of these jobs. There is no reason for it to take all season for some PTs / Trivia to get graded. I would then put the Wiki on the back burner, while it is a nice thing to have for the league, player retention and forum updates are a higher priority in my mind. I would also make the DSFL as important as the NSFL, and make sure that the rules are in place for both, and continually updated for both. DSFL is where all the new players first go, and if they do not have a great time and / or there are some things happening with the DSFL that they do not like, there goes the new blood.

6) Expansion Written: There have been a lot of new players entering the league recently. If you were in charge of a new expansion team for the NSFL or DSFL, how would you go about it?

Player power. In the last few years, this phrase has become widely used by fans and analysts. An unhappy player can divide fanbases, and put pressure on his coach, GM and owner. More and more, players who ask to be traded are traded. The smaller rosters (compared to, for example, the NFL) of the NBA makes player power particularly relevant.

The same may be true of the NSFL. It’s much better for both player and team if the player wants to play for his current team. So how do you make players want to play for you?

When looking at how NBA trades are analysed, there are a few common reasons players wish to be traded. To play with their preferred teammates, to move to a particular city, or to win championships. The same would be true of NSFL players. If your NSFL team is made up of players who make people laugh, they’ll want to be a part of your virtual locker room. It’d be fun. The NSFL equivalent of New York or LA is the best team Discord server(s). That’s where your players will be, so you have to make sure your discord server is popping. No one wants an awkward, inactive server but no one wants a server full of spam that’s impossible to keep up with. Finally, winning. Good players want to play for winning organisations, and winning organisations attract more good players and keep winning.

It’s easier said than done, but running an NSFL team requires constant awareness of player power. Build your expansion team with this concept in mind. If your current roster is intent on staying and players on rival teams are looking enviously at your team spirit then you’re well on your way to building a dynasty. If the outside world thinks you’re a fun organisation that wins games, the reality will follow. (312 words)

8) Scouting Report Written: Write a scouting report for one of the incoming draftees in either the NSFL or DSFL.

Daniel George is one of the more intriguing prospects in the upcoming DSFL draft. The 24 year old was a four-year-starter for the Washington Huskies (the University of Washington’s football program), and at first glance is a high-floor, low-ceiling prospect.

George played tight end in college, and comes in at 6’6, 265 lbs. George was ranked as one of the nation’s best run-blockers by PFF, and his size combined with his polished technique makes George a day-one starter in running packages.

George’s draft stock has been slowly rising ahead of the draft, as scouts begin to talk themselves into the potential of each prospect in the class. George ran a 4.71s forty yard dash, and came in at 7.15s in the three cone drill. His receiving production in college was limited - he recorded just 46 catches in 51 college games - but 25 of these catches came in his senior season, where George caught all of his catchable targets. Looked at in the right light, a GM could convince themselves that the real Daniel George is the one they saw in his senior year - an excellent run-blocker and reliable, underutilised pass-catcher. Equally, as George is already 24 years old and has a hectic life off-the-field (The tight end runs two farms, volunteers as a firefighter, and has four children with two different women), it may be unrealistic to expect George to develop significantly once he turns professional.

Daniel George looks a great fit in a run-heavy DSFL offense, but DSFL coaches should be wary of expecting too much of George in the passing game.

19) OL or K/P Appreciation Written: Write about an active human offensive lineman or special teamer that is in the playoffs, and how they will or did affect the outcome.

Alfredo "Thighmaster" Crisco was outstanding for the Austin Copperheads as they won the S20 Ultimus Trophy. Across Austin’s three playoff victories, Crisco hit all seven of his field goal attempts, converted 10/10 extra points and punted 19 times for 945 yards, an impressive 49.7 yards per punt. Crisco’s kickoffs were returned for an average of just 17.9 yards, while opposing punt returners averaged a meagre 6.6 yards per return.

Crisco didn’t take over a game in the way that Easton Cole did in the Ultimus, throwing four touchdown passes, but he contributed to the team’s performance in a meaningful and positive manner in each of the Copperhead’s playoff games. When you’re relying on your punter to punt seven or eight times (as Crisco did in Austin’s first two matchups), you need to be able to trust your special teams units. With Crisco front-and-centre, Austin’s special teams did everything the team needed and more.

Special teams are overlooked far too often, with few cases demonstrating their importance better than the case of the 2010 San Diego Chargers, who led the NFL in total offense and total defense but still missed the playoffs. Why, and how? Because their special teams unit let them down. A stellar performance from their special teams unit contributed to Austin’s Ultimus win, and Alfredo Crisco was the unit’s star. 20) Ultimus Ad Written: You and your teammates are to appear in a famous ad to be aired during the Ultimus. What is it about?

NB: For the purpose of this task, I have considered the rest of the S22 draft class as my teammates as we are all without teams as we wait to be drafted.

Tom Brady can be seen on his balcony, accompanied by his wife Gisele Bündchen and their two children. Brady’s six Super Bowl rings can be seen on his fingers, and they sparkle in the light of the setting sun. Brady is sat on a sun lounger, wearing sunglasses and appearing relaxed and content. He turns to his son, Benjamin.

“Ben…” Brady begins, “do you think you’ll play in the NFL someday? Perhaps you can try and best my accomplishments”. Brady holds up his hands, presenting his Super Bowl rings. Gisele can be seen over Brady’s shoulder, rolling her eyes.

Benjamin Brady responds: “Really, Dad? Of course not. I’d rather play in the NSFL. An Ultimus is worth at least ten Super Bowls”

Aghast, the elder Brady asks, “The NSFL? What’s that?”.

Benjamin sighs. “No one watches the NFL anymore. All the cool kids at school are watching the NSFL instead. The best college players are declaring for the NSFL draft rather than the NFL draft. There’s Brandon Booker, William Alexander, Derred de Ville, Cadillac Harris, Alexander Hamilton…”

As he recounts each name, they step out from the house and onto the balcony. Benjamin Brady continues reeling off names until the balcony is filled with NSFL prospects. As more future stars try to cram themselves onto the relatively small balcony, Tom Brady’s sun lounger is knocked over and someone accidentally steps on Brady’s expensive sunglasses. The $60,000 pair of sunglasses are broken, but no one notices or cares because Tom Brady is a has-been and the NFL is for losers. The future stars of the NSFL turn to face the camera, and everyone watching goes to the NSFL website to buy jerseys and memorabilia celebrating their new favourite players and their new favourite professional football league.
