The Outlaws sadly did not make the playoffs. But Thomas Passmann will still be making trouble at home and reminiscing on his first season in the pros. He has made some predictions about the playoffs, suspecting that against all odds the Sarasota Sailfish could make a Cinderella run in their division. They have been quite strong for a new team and are only getting stronger as they build more cohesion together, gain experience, and adjust to the league. But ultimately Passmann sees the Yellowknife Wraiths as the favorites. They have been solid contenders for many consecutive seasons now, and should have the leadership and experience needed to give them that extra push. If any team is capable of finding a strategic edge, it is Yellowknife; they can prove themselves worthy of the Ultimus trophy. It will not be an easy feat most certainly, as many other teams want to win that championship and they want it badly. But the regular season did not show the full extent of Yellowknife’s prowess, and Passmann thinks the NSFL world will really see them explode onto the scene and make a heroic run. Their effort and their diligence will be their defining qualities, and may prove to be what is needed to emerge victorious in a hard fought playoffs.

Sitting at home for the first playoff season of my career has definitely not been the way that I expected things to go. However, this gives me a chance to sit back with an unbiased view of the entire playoff view and see some of the crazy possibilities available with this season of teams. We have the brand-new Sarasota Sailfish coming in with hopes to disrupt the party and make sure that they get wins right off the bat. The new fish boys might be biting off more than they can chew though so I predict that the Yeti end up pushing aside the near loss in their final game with a solid win into the NSFC championship. That takes us to the championship game where I think that for the unfortunate Yeti that they don’t have the strength to push on and fall short of the Wraiths.

As for the ASFC, I think the craziness does not hold itself back. The ASFC has been a strong conference for seasons now and this shouldn’t stop here. The Copperheads, I think, stick behind the reliable hands and feet of Easton Cole and pump out a win against New Orleans. As with the Yeti, the Copperheads slip against the current ASFC favorites in order to make way for the Otters and the Wraiths to meet up. All the while I’ll be watching from Baltimore…wishing that luck was on my side more often.

How Norfolk can get the 2 Seed

In the DSFL, the Norfolk Seawolves have a good chance at making the playoffs. They have control of their own destiny as they are currently sitting as the 2nd seed. Tied at 6-6 with Dallas and Myrtle Beach, Norfolk currently holds tiebreakers over both teams so if they go 2-0 they can secure the playoffs but if they go 1-1 they still have a chance to make it, but they’ll need some pieces to fall in place. Norfolk plays home against Portland and away against MB which will be two tough games, but I believe Norfolk will at least be able to beat Portland. With HFA and an offense that has gotten better each week, they’ve got a solid chance to win this game. Away at MB is a tough one so the sim gods will have to be on their side. With that said, if Norfolk goes 1-1, then they still have a shot. For them to make the playoffs they’d need MB to lose to Minnesota week 12, which is an away game for MB and should be a tough game for them considering Minnesota is top of the NFC North. They’d also need Dallas to go 1-1 or worse, and with Dallas playing 2 away games against the Royals and Kansas City, this should be possible. While both those teams have a below .500 record, they’re playing at home so they have a better chance at winning.

I predict that:
Norfolk will go 1-1, beating Portland and losing to MB
Dallas will go 1-1, losing to the Royals and then beating KCC
MB will go 1-1, losing to Minnesota and then beating Norfolk

If this plays out then Norfolk will split head to head with Dallas and MB, so it moves to conference record the next tie breaker. Norfolk will have a better conference record than MB, but they’ll tie with Dallas. Therefore, Points For could determine who takes the 2nd seed. Right now, Dallas has 8 more Points For than Norfolk, but, they play 2 away games and offenses usually struggle to put up a lot of points on the road. However, it’ll be tough for Norfolk to overcome this 8 points as well because they play away against MB. All in all, I think Norfolk will secure the 2nd seed tonight with their offensive momentum overcoming the PF by Dallas.

Not trying to be a homer, but the Dallas Birddogs have had an impressive resurgence this season and are playoff hopefuls. In a conference with a tight race for 2nd place (where each team currently sits at 6-6), the Birddogs have made improvements after their debut season in the DSFL. Rookie running back Kichwa Jones is putting up an impressive season, currently sitting at 1241 yards, second place in the DSFL, with 5.3 ypc. On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Blade McCoy has quickly emerged as one of the top linebackers not only in his draft class but the entire league, racking up 123 tackles for fourth in the league. Dallas is counting on these stars to establish a strong ground game and smothering defense with playoff expectations on the horizon. With two games left, they are in position to make that push to get over the hump.

They have left to face the Royals and Coyotes, respectively, where the Birddogs are the favorite in both games. If you were a betting man, you'd be wise to put money on Dallas. Their thirst for the playoffs only fuels them more, giving them the chip on the shoulder we see on great teams time and time again.

Coming into the last two weeks of regular season DSFL action, the race for the four playoff spots could not be much closer. Though the 9-3 Tijuana Luchadores have amassed a 3 win lead over the next team in their conference, locking up a playoff spot for themselves, the remaining three spots in the playoffs are entirely up for grabs. There isn't a single team in the league that is eliminated from contention, but that means there are 7 teams competing for just 3 playoff spots. The final spot in the Southern Conference is extremely close, with the Norfolk Seawolves, Dallas Birddogs, and Myrtle Beach Buccaneers all tied up with their 6-6 records. Dallas will have to finish the season with two away competitions to non-conference opponents, making their path perhaps the most difficult. As Myrtle Beach will host Norfolk at their home arena, the result of that could very well lead to a hungry Buccaneers team traveling to Tijuana in the playoffs.

In the Northern Division, neither of the two playoff spots have been locked in. The Minnesota Grey Ducks are up two games at 7-5 with two home games to close out the season, virtually locking up a spot for themselves. With the Portland Pythons and London Royals at 5-7 with the Kansas City Coyotes only a game behind at 4-8, the second spot will be much more contentious. KCC has two home matches, but they will be facing two tough non-conference opponents in Dallas and Myrtle Beach, making their road to the playoffs narrow and unlikely. So it comes down to London and Portland. Portland has two away matches to Norfolk and Tijuana, while London will face off against Dallas at home before travelling to Minnesota. In the end, this could very well come down to tiebreakers as I believe both teams will end the season with tied records.

The Seawolves don their helmets as they make their way to the 50-yard line. The team is prepared, poised, ready to attack as the coach blow the whistle to start the play. The quarterback, Skywalker, gets the ball in his hands and stares down the field, shuffling left and right as he dodges the defense. He sees an opening and pulls back his arm to throw in three, two, one…
The Norfolk Seawolves are obviously ready to bring home their first Utlimini trophy. Although there was some concern at the beginning of the season that the Seawolves had a limited receiving core, Brosley, Haugland, Sunrise, and rest of the team have stepped up to prove their worth, bringing the win/loss record to 6-6, coming in 2nd in the SFC South. The defense have also proven their mettle, with Banks capping out already rookie players like Sinclair and and Karpaasi already going over 130 TPE.
And of course, at the helm of the Norfolks’ ship are the two capped out and excellent quarterbacks, Suleiman Ramza and Luke Skywalker. Skywalker in his rookie season won performance of the year and was voted to be the DSFL All Pro Second Team QB. He was also came in second for both quarterback of the year and offensive rookie of the year. His merit has been proven on and off the field. Ramza this season has also exploded out of his shell, leading his team to several key victories and rallying the Seawolves.
Although they may be underdogs, with their qbs, offense, and defense, the Seawolves are the dark horse winner for the Ultimini. It’ll be fun to watch the rest of their season and their future.

Won't be in the playoffs this season, so will be watching from home. Anyways here's some thoughts about how I see things playing out.

Going into the playoffs, Tijuana appear to be the favourites to take home the Ultimini. The Luchadores finished the regular season with the best record and securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Tijuana will host the Norfolk Seawolves who secured second place in the DSFL South with a 8-6 record, ending the season on the back of 2 straight wins. With home field advantage and a well rounded roster, I think that Tijuana will come away with a win and represent the DSFL South in the Ultimini.

Over on the DSFL North, we have the Minnesota Grey Ducks facing the London Royals. The Grey Ducks finished with the best record in the DSFL North and will have home field advantage in their matchup against the Royals. Minnesota had a slow start to the year but finished strong on route to an 8-6 record with a defense which conceded the fewest points in the regular season. The Royals enter the playoffs having finished with 6-8 record. I think that Minnesota will come away with the win. Strong defense with some weapons on offense coupled with home field advantage. With that being said if the Royals win that'd be pretty cool too.

So in the Ultimini I have Tijuana playing at home against Minnesota. I think it'll be a competitive matchup, but with home field advantage I give the edge to Tijuana.

Well, since I'm writing this after the week 14 games have played in the DSFL, I can confidently say that the Myrtle Beach Buccs will not be in the post season this season. We had a strong last 4 games in the push for the playoffs but we fell short in our last game against Norfolk. At home. We lost by a field goal in overtime. I just feel bad for the fans, man. They came out every week to support us and on paper, we were the strongest team in the league. We should have sailed into the playoffs like it was nothing. I have a lot of thoughts on who to blame but eventually it was our own fault. Sure the refs threw laundry at us like there was no tomorrow and every team we played seemed to step up their play like 10 fold, but we should have answered them with better and harder play. We didn't and so we go home. Maybe I'll start knitting or something. I need to stay productive or I'm going to crash into tub after tub of Haagin Dazs ice cream. Man, this sucks. Top of the mountain to the bottom of valley.
