(S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Sutj - 07-02-2020 As a born and bred New Zealander, I can only have one answer. If it were up to me, I would name a new team the Auckland Kiwis, obviously located in Auckland, New Zealand. The reason I have chosen the Kiwis is because they are one of New Zealand's most well-known icons and loved by all. New Zealanders themselves are called Kiwis. They are one of the most unique animals in the world, being one of the very few flightless birds living on Earth today. They are also very cute which helps immensely. The reason I have chosen Auckland as the location of the team is that Auckland is absolutely the best city in New Zealand. Foreigners may be misled to believing that Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand, is the powerhouse of New Zealand. This couldn't be further from the truth. Everything cool is in Auckland - the Sky Tower, the Harbour Bridge, a lack of parliament buildings, and artists always skip Wellington to come to Auckland. Aucklanders have a very strong need for a good sports team because the only thing we are sort of good at is rugby, which is like weird football. Aucklanders would love the presence of a football team and would quickly become one of the strongest fanbases to date. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Tesla - 07-02-2020 I am going to say preemptively that if I ended up in charge of creating an expansion franchise with my known comments on the subject matter it would mean that I either acquired blackmail on members of Head Office, or acquired a life debt or two from them. Either way it means that I can create whatever I want with no concern for how it fits into the league. However since I have asked the commissioner about having a team located in a fictional place and was forewarned that it would probably not go over that well; I will at the very least skip the fictional ones that I would prefer to make just to fit in a bit better. The name of my expansion team would be the New Zealand Happy Hobbits. A team that I picked to please as many people that I know as possible simultaneously. New Zealand is a location that my friend Bex has stated she would approve of as a player at the very least, and honestly it is one that I like well enough from some of the comedians I follow being from there. Plus I like the idea of the league having more international teams. Now the reason for the mascot is that I believe a large portion of the world now associates New Zealand with the Lord of the Rings franchise. Hobbits are cute and Happy Hobbits are even cuter. The logo would be a happy hobbit ideally smoking a pipe with a kiwi sitting on their head for the New Zealand connection. Which could just be the best logo in the league depending on how capable the artist is of course. Right now we do not have enough international teams in either league given the benefits of being a simulation league. We do have some fantastical franchises already I would say and so adding another would not be an outlandish occurrence. Plus who wouldn't want to play for a team whose logo is a cute little hobbit smoking a pipe with a fun little bird on their head? Detroit is a great city that is a bit rough around the edges but has a great sports following and not to mention large media market. As far as a name goes, it is tough to try to capture every side of Detroit with one thing. However, I settled on the name, The Detroit Dynamics. The term Dynamics works in a couple of ways. For one, it works in the city’s rich Vehicle history. Vehicle “Dynamics” is the study of how the vehicle will react to driver inputs on a given solid surface. This obviously paying homage to Detroit’s rich automotive history over the years. Being the home of Ford, GM, etc. it is hard to ignore that side of Detroit’s history. Also to play into Detroit’s music scene dynamics is a pretty common term in music. This meaning to vary the loudness between different notes and phrases. This nodding to the history of Motown, Techno, and “Detroit Rock City”; all great nicknames/music movements from Detroit. I think the logo for Detroit Dynamics could vary much like that of having the “Chargers” as a mascot. Probably a logo emphasizing speed or power would be appropriate. This would also look pretty sharp when relating to the football franchise. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Cincyfan96 - 07-02-2020 In exploring possible options for expansion teams and locations, the biggest things to consider are the population of the fanbase and the epic nature of the name. For me, it's also an added plus to have an alliteration in the name "Nashville Nasties" is so much better than "Nashville Meanies" for example. As I thought about this, I asked my wife who is from Buffalo where we would have a team and she just looked at me...of course! Buffalo! Buffalo football fans are absolutely wild, tailgating for DAYS before big games and staying insanely loyal to their team no matter what, which is an extremely important quality when it comes to being fans of a startup team - wins are certainly not guaranteed. When I asked my wife what the mascot should be, she replied right away, "Buffalo!" At first I thought no way, but the longer I thought about it the more I loved it...And while technically Buffalo Buffalo is repetition more so than alliteration, the goofiness of it all outweighs the questionable alliteration. But let's be real, how fun is that to say and the local fanbase will be ALL about it. So, for my submission for expansion, break out the beers, brats, and tailgates, and give it up for our new favorite team...the Buffalo Buffalo! (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Jo3fish5 - 07-02-2020 So, I wanna start this thing off with a “How the hell did we get out in such a bad situation that me, who hasn’t even played in the NSFL yet, is being put in charge of my very own expansion team” Just imagine how badly it would go if a rookie like me was but in charge of a real team. Do I hear 0-20? But now that that’s out of the way, here’s my expansion team proposal: The New York Imperials. First of all, how is there not already a team from New York? New York is such an iconic city. Most sports in real life have more than one team from New York, and we don’t even have one.New York is a city of over 8 million people, so you can bet people would be going to the games andtheres gonna be a great market for merch and media, which will help with earning money for the franchise. There’s plenty of places for the team to stay, and money wouldn’t be an issue because we r all rich football players yay. There’s also plenty to see and do so fans and players wouldn’t get bored at all. As for the name, I would call it the imperials because the name “imperials” just brings a feeling of power and makes you picture big, powerful players and buildings, like New York has. So, this is my bid for expansion, Go Imperials (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - siddhus - 07-02-2020 Well, expansion is coming, and I am super excited about it. As Raven said in his podcast, its boring to go to a place which is popular is real-life sports. So I am pitching a team in Anchorage, Alaska. We already have a Honolulu team, which otherwise would be my top option. Anchorage is a place, that does not really have a lot of sports teams, as the temperatures are very cold and unplayable there. But if they built an indoor football stadium I think it could work. Along with this, there is lots of extra place in Anchorage, so it would give them lots of free will to create a stadium. I dont know much about any team names, but Anchorage Huskies, cause of their famous dogs, or something like Anchorage Blizzards could work. Obviously if I am chosen, I will have a co-gm so they are probably better at thinking of a name. The main colors, would be white, and maybe turquoise/ light blue, as they represent cold connotation of colors. Based on the team name, would be how the logo looks. I think people could support and Anchorage team, as their are not always a lot of teams in Alaska, in sim leagues or real life, so it is different and unique, while also in a place that many people recognize. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Sushi - 07-02-2020 Quote:Written Option: There’s been a lot of talk about expansion drafts and what might be in store for the league going forward. If you were in charge of creating an expansion franchise, what would you name it and where would the team be located? In 200 words or more, describe why you picked that name and location and explain why your franchise would make a good NSFL team. This is an easy peasy question to answer, as I was just turned down for an expansion franchise in the Simulation Hockey League, specifically, the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. In my application that I put together with my assistant (co) general manager, Jeffie43, we suggested two cities, one on the west coast, and one on the east coast, so I think I would stick with that here. Our west coast team was to be located in the great state of Washington, specifically in Seattle, while our east coast team was to be located in the great province of Ontario, specifically in the City of Ottawa. For Seattle, our colours were to be dark blue, baby blue, and gold, similar to say the Chargers of San Diego and Los Angeles. For Ottawa, our choice of colours was red, gold, and white, similar to that of the Chiefs of Kansas City. We debated back and forth on multiple different names for each city, yet we were able to come to a consensus on both places. For Seattle, we were to be known as the Seattle Tridents, with a seal holding a trident as our primary logo. In Ottawa, we were to go by the Ottawa Redtails, and use some Native Canadian hawk imagery as our logo, as Ottawa is historically home to many First Nations people. In the end we didnt get selected, but it was still a fun process!
