RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - GuitarMaster116 - 08-26-2020 On my team in Tijuana, I believe probably the best player on our team that I think should get an award more than anyone is Cincyfan96, AKA Adam Schell. Currently, he is in the top 5 LBs in the league, has 52 tackles, 3 TFLs, 2 FF and 1 FR, 4 sacks, and 3 PDs. He is a leader on our defence and has been playing out of his mind all year. He may not currently lead the league in any one stat, but he has good stats in all aspects of the defense and is really well-rounded. Every week it seems like he has a great game and he is one of the most important parts to the Tijuana team currently. I could see him potentially winning best LB, or even DPOTY. Another defensive player I wanted to mention is Brane_Chyld, ASA Terry Tate. Often forgotten since he is a brand new rookie and doesn't have as many tackles as Adam Schell, there is one thing he does better than Schell, and thats getting sacks. Terry Tate is the LB next to Schell and currently he has 6 sacks. With Terry Tate and Schell next to each other, it creates one of the deadliest tandems in the league. I think he has a solid case so far for DROTY. Finally, I actually wanted to be a little selfish and talk about my own player real quick. Currently, I am the 2nd best OL in the league behind Clay Stallworth. I am hoping for a big week next week to get me close to 34 pancakes. The reason I say that is because the best DSFL OL season ever was in S18 by Ben, who had a whopping 67 pancakes, 0 sacks. If I can get to 34 pancakes by next game, then at the halfway mark in the season I will be halfway to breaking the record. I think if I am able to keep my production up, I can definitely make it and break the record. I believe me or Clay have a solid chance so far. That's not too bad for the 7th and 9th OL player taken in the draft. In 200 words or more, describe one or more players on your team (which can include yourself) and why you think that they are currently in contention for a particular award. Are their stats on pace to break records, or are they simply leading the pack? Is their efficiency or volume noteworthy? Would they possibly contend for one of the major awards as well? Easton Cole, the Austin QB, is having a great passing year through the first nine games of the season. His passer rating of 91.4 leads the league and is his personal best since S18, his third year in the NSFL/ISFL. That passing success also shows up in the team stats where the Copperheads have the most points scored in the ASFC. If he manages to keep that up, I think he has a decent chance at getting QB of the year, though I think MVP will be hard to pull off unless he improves. I think keeping control of the ball has been the key to Cole's success - his 3 interceptions is the league low. His interception rate of one interception per 95 attempts is also lowest, so he's not just benefiting from a run-first offense. That being said, he's clearly leading the pack rather than heading towards records. A 91.4 rating would only put him 4th on the career rating mark, and he's way behind Armstrong's record 2036 season's 109.3 rating. Similarly, I think that getting the MVP will be hard unless he improves some and helps the Copperheads actually put away some of these games. We're 4-5 now with a +29 point differential - MVP quality performers can turn personal success into team success. I think there is room for Cole to get there, but I think a player from a top playoff-qualifying team has a higher chance if our record doesn't improve. RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - Buttersqauch101 - 08-26-2020 So for this Point Task I am going to talk about why my player (Joshua Campbell) deserves the WRoty award for the DSFL. Joshua Campbell has been dominant all season whenever he gets the ball currently leading the league in average YPC by almost exactly 5 yards with a 19.2 YPC. 2nd place being Gunner Thornbjorsson (I hope thats how you spell it) who has 14.3 YPC. While Campbell doesn’t get as many receptions as other receivers he makes up for it with what he does on the field as with his 23 Receptions in 6 games he is second in the league in yards with 442. Gunner is first with 457 yards with 9 more receptions. Campbell is also third in Receiving touchdowns with 4 total Compared to most of the league being 2 or below. He also does this while holding the longest catch of the season with 55 yards which has a 9 yard longer difference than second place. Joshua Campbell has been having such an extremely dominant player all season even in special teams as he had an extremely clutch 88 yard punt return to the house in the 44-38 overtime win against the Tijuana Luchadores. While that doesn’t matter for WRoty he definitely could be a contender for Punt Returner of the Year RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - GoonerBear - 08-26-2020 After San Jose's Week 9 game against the Baltimore Hawks, how can you give Defensive Performance of the Year to anyone else except the rookie free safety Philip Stein? In that matchup, he notched two tackles, three interceptions, and ran one all the way back for a touchdown. In a game that ended 33-16, the math is clear - Stein's performance was otherworldly in its own right and accounted for the three-possession margin of victory. Taking a look at where he stands for Defensive Rookie of the Year, it's tough to call, though he played himself into a big advantage in the race - he stands tied for the league lead in interceptions with Dermot Lavelle, Jr. LiterallyJust A. Hexagon has the tackles lead among rookies, Tyron Shields isn't too far behind, though he hasn't got much else going for him and lots of tackles as a corner is going to hurt. He may also have to contend with Hingle McCringleberry, who leads rookies with 14 passes defended and has a good tackles pace at 60, plus three sacks and a pick from the LB position. Stein has some stiff competition for Defensive Rookie, but playing out of his mind against the Hawks has got to make him a lock for Defensive Performance of the Year if you stop counting right now. (220 words) RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - AdamS - 08-27-2020 There are many awards that stand the test of time. Many fine candidates for individual honors litter the league. But among the London Royals one particular candidate stands above the rest. The London Royals should be a favorite for the Ultimini. Sure. Others may suggest an individual honor. But the team deserves to be considered for this award. While some may scoff at the 3-3 record, more sharp eyed viewers will note that the team has already played several of its toughest games on its schedule. We handed Norfolk its only loss so far and came seconds from upsetting Tijuana in their home. We beat Dallas so badly we defined their identity. That unimpressive 3-3 is actually a lot more steady than it looks and this team is a lot better than its early schedule makes it seem. Basically the best defense in the league so far, barring a slight edge some may give to a Norfolk team who had it easy for 5 of 6 games. Our offense continues to grow, having its best two outings in the past few weeks. London just keeps pushing and getting stronger as the season goes on. And its because we aren't focused on whether a particular player should be considered this of the year or that of the year. The team wants to win. RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - zaynzk - 08-27-2020 A few names pop to mind when I think of potential MVP on my team the Dallas Birddogs. The obvious choice is Zoe Watts, a clear superstar in our team since day one, and currently leads the league in yards and is 2nd in rushing touchdowns. Another name that has come up often is the defensive player LB Richard Leaking who himself has three sacks while also being the linebacker with the most Pass Deflections proving his versatility and the threat that he posses to an opposing offense. Leaking and Watts are the clear favorites for any awards come the end of the season however one more name deserves recognition, Bryon Blackwell currently has 6 pass deflections aswell as two interceptions including one which he returned for six points, if he continues his good form I could see him snagging the award, especially since the rookie Bob Roberts seems to slowly get better with every week, allowing more QBs to have to throw towards Blackwell. Dallas roster hosts a lot of eager and young players who on any given day might go off and be the hero that the team deserves, and every week they seem more and more a cohesive unit, but for now there are only three names who deserve an award, Watts, Leaking, Blackwell. RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - jdourtled - 08-27-2020 Despite having a rough week eight and nine, Deondre Thomas-Fox should be the lead candidate for both Wide Receiver of the Year, and potentially Offensive Player of the Year as well. He's a huge reason San Jose has gone from last place in the ASFC last season to fighting for the number one seed, so you could argue he should be in the MVP conversation as well. He's on pace to finish number one in receiving yard, top three in touchdowns, and top five in catches and yards per catch. After a huge game where he had three interceptions, on that went for a touchdown, all of which happened in the fourth quarter, Phillip Stein has put in his name in the running for Defensive Performance of the Year, and potentially a Defensive Rookie of the Year nomination as well. Now he may not have the tackle numbers, mainly due to playing safety, but he has been a turnover machine this year. He has two picks to go on top of the three from week nine, as well as a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to help bolster what has been a top five defense this season. He also has two sacks which isn't too shabby. RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - yonggarius - 08-27-2020 Thor Kirkby definitely deserves some kind of award- whether it is safety of the year or defensive performance of the year- with the performance he had showed so far into the season. Currently at week 9, Kirkby has 44 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 picks and 5 passes deflected, 2 forsed fumble(one recovered) and a safety and a defensive touchdown each. That puts Kirkby tied for 5th in sacks and tied for 7th in intrrceptions as a free safety. While the numbers aren't that super impressive when they are seen individually, Kirkby accumulated significant number of stats in all the relevant categories of the defence while sitting at a relatively low TPE level of 551. He also has plenty 'impact' stats. Currently, Kirkby is the only player in the ISFL to score both a safety and a defensive touchdown. That is unsurprising, since circumstances required for each stats are quite different by nature. Also those moments of impact- his safety, pick six and two forced fumbles- tend to come in a moment of dire need. For instance, Kirkby's safety in week 2 Yellowknife game came in the last minute, when the Wraith had possession with all their timeouts. The safety prematuarely ended their drive and their hopes for the win in the close game. Kirkby, while being a low TPE player, had excelled in all categories of defense while making a name for himself as a clutch player on the fearsome Yeti defense. I will be surprised if he doesn't get any awards after keeping up with his current pace for the rest of this season.
