RE: (S31) PT 1 - End of a Decade - Dagumpa - 09-16-2021 It's been an interesting past ten seasons for me. I was graced with the S22 Minnesota Grey Ducks when I first came in. That remains my favorite team I've ever played on in any league. In S24, Dex Kennedy broke the all-time, single season record for tackles. A while later, in S28, Dex finally made the playoffs for the first time after being called up. It was a really great run that culminated in an Ultimus appearance. We didn't come out on top but making it that far was awesome. Of course, making it to Ultimini with Amari Springer was equally cool. And getting drafted in the first round was a dream come true. But, speaking of S28, the season when Dex won Defense Player of the Year still sticks out to as my favorite in league history. For starters, it came after a ton of seasons of Dex getting pretty much no recognition for his play. 0 Pro Bowl appearances, 0 awards, and of course, 0 playoff appearances. I guess something finally clicked for him that season. He waged war against every offense in the league and absolutely dominated. Dex tied the record for most defensive touchdowns in a season with 4. I don't think I'll ever have a player come that close to MVP ever again. But a Dag can dream. The first twenty seasons of this league’s existence, the Orange County Otters found their way to nine Ultimus appearances and won eight of those games, and the Arizona Outlaws appearing in and winning four others, meaning that more than half of the Ultimus titles through season twenty were won by just two of the leagues ten teams. The Austin Copperheads’ victory in season twenty really marked a turning point for this league; no longer is this a league dominated by the ancient powerhouses of the ASFC. The Orange County Otters and Arizona Outlaws have each appeared in just one Ultimus since that turn, opening the door for a team like the Colorado Yeti to finally reach the summit, for teams like the San Jose Sabercats and Yellowknife Wraiths to build upon their respective legacies, and for expansion teams like the Sarasota Sailfish and New York Silverbacks to show that they built the foundations necessary for the highest levels of success. That said, there are still (the Berlin Fire Salamanders, the Chicago Butchers, and the Honolulu Hahalua) who have yet to claim the trophy, and although it is never certain, expansion always seems to be looming; maybe the next decade will bring more new faces to the table, or return some who have not visited for a while. RE: (S31) PT 1 - End of a Decade - Drip - 09-16-2021 As somebody who has joined the league in the back half of the season 20's (S27), I haven't really been around for that long. Which is wild to think about, because I feel like I have been a part of this forever! But, nonetheless, I have looked through the seasons, heard some of the drama, and have gotten a decent grasp on the the league before I joined. My favorite moment from the last 10 seasons definitely had to be when I was named captain in Tijuana. That season meant a lot to me, not only because it was my first as captain, but we also were able to make a playoff run in Tonzy's last season at the helm. Aside from the controversial ending to that season, I have never felt more involved in the league then I did that season. I also really enjoy every draft season, whether it be scouting the new guys for the Lucha, or seeing how excited everybody gets when their card gets pulled up. From before my time, I honestly think that all the expansion talk, which has carried over into my time, is extremely exciting. The league is rolling strong, and I can't wait to read my answers on the next decade recap! 211 Words RE: (S31) PT 1 - End of a Decade - CShockWave - 09-16-2021 As a rookie, I’m not very knowledgeable about the going on’s of this storied league that is the ISFL and DSFL. However I do very much look forward to the many seasons I have in these leagues as well as the many marks on its history I’ll inevitably make throughout them. I started out just wanting to contribute to something bigger than myself and started training to get into the league. Once I was invited to the prospect bowl I knew I had to do my best to be noticed. I was named Defensive Player of the Prospect Bowl Championship Game. My efforts paid off when draft day came around. I was selected in the 5th round by the Minnesota Grey Ducks! I plan on putting my all into carrying this defense and this team to every playoff possible as well as each championship we plan on winning together. This team has as many great guys on both sides of the ball as they do Coaches and GM’s. It’s an amazing team atmosphere and they’ve taken care of me so well that I need to pay them back in kind by leaving my all out there on the field every week. RE: (S31) PT 1 - End of a Decade - MamaB - 09-16-2021 I have only recently joined, but I would have to say that my favorite and most memorable moments in this league have been on draft nights. Sconnie and I have made a point to physically and mentally prepare for those nights to be exciting for us. We have ordered pizza, put the kids to bed early, found our spots in front of our big television, and just cheering each other on. I really appreciate that we were both drafted 2 overall, so neither of us need to feel competitive. (; I am also very appreciative that we were both drafted by Norfolk. I like that we are on the same team, that we are cheering for each other, on both sides of the ball. It is like a party in the McHits home on game night, and I love it. As I am looking ahead to the next 10 seasons, my hopes and ambitions are that I can continue to be competitive, but equally important to me are the relationships built along the way. There have been so many awesome things that people have shared with me, so many experiences and laughs that I will find hard to forget, and I am looking forward to continuing to foster those relationships. More than all of these things though, I am looking forward to Sconnie finding his love of the griddle, and many Sconnie-made cakes. Immediately I am looking at Austin, over the last 10 seasons we have been in the post season more than not and the next few seasons look like we will be able to continue that fine trend and with a little luck finally go one step further and get another Ultimus. My player will be done in Austin soon enough, season 33 will be my last I think but with an amazing QB already in the pipeline Austin will hopefully not miss a beat and just keep competing. For the league itself I would love to grow 1 last time and get to that magic number of 16 teams. Unfortunately unless we get a sudden surge again I think it is more likely that we will be sticking at 14 teams for a good long time. The league recruitment has leveled out so hopefully in the future it can stay the same if not improve. That is all I can think of, I look forward at writing this again in 10 seasons time. WC 220 RE: (S31) PT 1 - End of a Decade - legion of slugs - 09-17-2021 Although the last decade was a great one, Will Stern only spent a few seasons in it, all of them in the DSFL, which contained some great memories, but Will Stern prefers to look forward to the next full decade! For the next 10 seasons of the ISFL, Stern has very high hopes of what he can achieve on the field. Starting the decade off having been called up by the Orange County Otters, he’s already made the next step in his career which was a big one! Stern would like to get to the pro bowl level in the ISFL that he was at in the DSFL. It will take a lot of work and time, but Stern hopes to do that in no more than 5-7 seasons down the line. Stern is most anticipating a playoff run from his team soon down the line, which would be the ultimate dream. The stats are cool to have, but winning is what matters. Stern was part of a winning culture at KCC, but unfortunately didn’t come up with playoff wins the last 2 seasons down there, so getting a playoff win is the current highest ambition for Stern. Lastly, Stern wants to help the defensive line of the otters reach a higher level, and it’s going to take more work out of himself. But Stern believes that the pass rush is at a super high level already, and by contributing he can help make it even better. |
