RE: (S32) PT 4 - Retirement - Memento Mori - 12-03-2021 This seems a suitable topic for me, given that Brandon Booker was drafted to the ISFL way back in Season 22 and is currently playing his eleventh season in the league. Booker is aware that retirement is approaching, and will have no doubt considered his plans upon hanging up his cleats a final time. As the separation between player and user is quite murky, I think it's reasonable to assume that Booker has some interest in coaching or GMing, and in a previous PT I wrote about Booker returning to Desert Vista High School in Arizona to coach a game. I imagine that Booker would take on a coaching or executive role at some level of football, having played the professional game for eleven seasons and been nominated for multiple awards he certainly has the reputation within the game to earn him an interview at somewhere he's played previously - be that Orange County, Philadelphia or the (now) Bondi Beach organisations, or going into the amateur game and coaching a high school or college team. These hogs on the line keep on getting bigger and bigger and I can't do what I was built to anymore. It's time to hang up the cleats but not yet time to walk away from the game. This game has meant so much to me and just because my body can't handle it anymore does not mean I have to walk away. It is just time to attack it from a different angle. Trading in the pads for the headset. If I can out work teams anymore, i'm gonna outsmart them as a coach. I have already been helping in the developmental league but hope I'm able to become an ISFL GM and add to the collection of rings my player will have been able to collect at this point. I will always miss the on field action but just as much look forward to giving others those opportunities and sharing all the knowledge I have with them! RE: (S32) PT 4 - Retirement - Tesla - 12-03-2021 Agent Tesla: What eerily fortuitous timing! The point task for this week is about what your life will look like after football Magnus! Magnus Rikiya: Did they know that I was going to announce my retirement today? Agent Tesla: Well based on a few factors I believe there is a sense that this season will see a number of your peers announce their retirement. Still you have had your plans set in stone for a fair while I would say Magnus. So what are you going to do when you step away from the game? Magnus Rikiya: My full focus will go to my career as the World's Strongest Man. Although I also intend to keep helping out as an assistant coach for the Norfolk Seawolves. Nothing new will be explored by me any time soon, but I will also still keep close to the game courtesy of the Seawolves. Agent Tesla: Excellent. You have the hope of setting the record for most titles as the World's Strongest Man, right? Magnus Rikiya: Given Hall of Fame is likely out of reach after my ISFL career that is the best I will be able to do in my athletic career. Just going to give it my all there and see what happens. Agent Tesla: Well we will be there to help even as you step away from football. Now personally I will be sticking with football as I represent a new client who I am going to introduce today. Please say hello Cross-Eriksen! Cross-Eriksen: Hello. Agent Tesla: Just to cover all our bases have you planned out what you want to do years from now when you retire miss? Cross-Eriksen: Vigilantism. Agent Tesla: Would you like to elaborate some more on that? It sounds fascinating! Cross-Eriksen: No. Agent Tesla: Well there you have it folks! Thanks for joining us and we hope you have a nice day! Once I retire for the game of football I will likely attend another one of my many interests that I had in the past and had to lay aside for the pursuit of this goal. I am a great gardener and have a particular enjoyment of creating sculptures out of bushes, what the French call topiary. I am an avid watcher and maker of a certain type of films that will name nameless. I have also neglected my poor wife Najia who must still be waiting for me back on Staten Island so I will probably go back there for a bit. Who knows, I may even decide to travel so more, the world is my oyster. His teammates know he spends a lot of time playing Rocket League when not doing football activities so Miles plans on devoting all the added time to play Rocket League professionally. Because of Miles' status as a professional athlete he regularly plays with Rocket League pros and high end streamers and already has an in with the professional gaming community. Miles is skilled enough already to hang with the current top players, but more time devoted to his hobby after football will help him win against them with more regularity. Until he's ready for the professional circuit I'm sure we'll see Miles as a guest host at staged Rocket League events and he may even take up streaming his favorite video game regularly instead of only streaming for charity events currently. Bass officially made the call for this season to be his final one as of last night. It was a truly memorable career filled with incredible moments and people he'll never forget. The 3rd round pick managed to put up some decent numbers compared to the rest of the ISFL, but he also quietly moved up the ranks of the SJS all-time lists. SJS Career Records: Tackles: 3rd TFLs: 1st Sacks: 5th Forced Fumbles: 1st Fumbles Recovered: T-1st The highest honor Bass obtained was the ultimate team objective: win an Ultimus. Hell! He messed around and did it twice in a row! Those teams were underdogs all the way, but the GMs had some tricks up their sleeves that no one ever really gave them credit for. Football has been great to Bass for the last decade, but it's now time to look forward. Through his connections to the professional wrestling world, Bass will be taking an opportunity to join the writing team for the largest production company in the biz. Being around and involved in some of the craziest story lines in ISFL history has given Bass some unique ideas and perspectives for stories he can try to tell in a different way in the squared circle. Perhaps some day down the line, a Bass Jr will take to the gridiron, but for now, memories of LB the LB will have to do. |
