RE: (S29) PT 2 - Double Trouble? - Zoone16 - 06-04-2021 It wasn’t what little Timmy had in mind when he wrote a letter to his favourite young player, Nick L. Back of the Norfolk Seawolves to come visit him for his birthday party. Lil’ Timmy wanted just a surprise, a hug and maybe a signed cap or jersey, something to make this day memorable for a young local Seawolves fan. What happened instead might traumatize Timmy for a long time. Nick L. Back, high off a 2 touchdown, 120yds performance in a losing game against the Dallas Birddogs, did in fact arrive at the Smith’s house, surprising Timmy with a signed game ball and a helmet signed by the whole Seawolves team. However, instead of leaving after posing for a few pictures, Nick L. Back, apparently tipsy, starting making advances to some of the mothers there including Timmy’s mother, shocking many who had come there. After being asked to leave, Back spilled a few drinks, dropped half of the cake after knocking a table down, and screamed a few obscenities on his way out. The incident was reported to Seawolves management who reprimanded the young player and banned him from any non-pre-approved PR stunts ever again. Needless to say, Timmy won’t be wishing for another player to visit him for his birthday. Quite frankly, he doesn't have the time, but he still manages to see about five per month. Most of them are artwork from kids or hate mail from other team's fans, but he stumbled upon a handwritten letter with "PLEASE READ" written in large letters and circled in red at the top of the page. It was a birthday party invitation for a 9 year old fan. Miles knew he wanted to do something about this and the party was in a week. He quickly sprang into action and contacted the team media managers, apparel managers, and some teammates. Miles would spend much of his free time the next week coordinating a memorable surprise experience for this young fan and his family. The day of the party Miles arrived to the family's house in a limousine with teammates Stewart Hellraiser, Sal Ami, Nick Back, and Clifford Wilson. The players heard the party in the backyard and each of them was carrying a big box of Seawolves swag. As they entered the backyard and people recognized them there was a mix of cheers and looks of astonishment. Miles and company would hand out various items to all the people at the party and Miles went straight for the birthday boy, Landon, to give a huge hug. He then showed the young fan his phone and a tweet from the Norfolk Seawolves official Twitter which invited the family to the next home game as VIP guests. The boy was so excited he grabbed Miles' phone and ran to show his parents. Landon's mother began to cry and slowly walked toward Miles to not only thank him for everything he did today, but just for taking the time to read the letter she sent. Overachieving at the moment are the San Jose Saber Cats. Currently they are 4-2, and were lightly regarded going into the season as a result of losses of top talent like Ty Hood and a notoriously shaky Offensive Line protecting a mediocre QB in Monterey Jack. Instead, Jack has proved to be an effective gunslinger, throwing for over 2000 yards (albeit with a poor TD to INT ratio of 9-8.), and helped lead San Jose to three close, tough wins against Philadelphia, New Orleans, and a big one against New York. The team's point ratio and defense does look lopsided after getting smacked around 45-10 by the Arizona Outlaws, but theres still promise they can eek out a playoff spot if they win 2 out of the next 3 and keep the momentum going. For underachieving its obviously the Austin Coppherheads. After making it to the Ultimus, one could expect Austin to keep things flowing, with their young QB Jackie Daytona only getting better. Instead, Austin followed up a Week 1 victory over Honolulu with 5 straight losses, all of them fairly close, with their biggest margin of defeat being only an 8 point loss to league-leading Sarasota. Theres hope for Austin if Daytona gets hot on the back half of the season, if they can get a win over San Jose, but they're the clear underachievers right now. Why wouldn't he? Squanch would likely pay for the food and some decorations, in London Royals colors of course! He would bring along some merch for the kid as well, like a signed jersey, some tickets to a Royals game, things like that. It would be an absolute blast. As great as it is to get kids excited and "hooked" on sports teams early in life, it's more important to teach things like compassion. Squanch would hope that going to the party would be a good demonstration of doing what you say you're going to do and following up on promises. What better example can we set other than with ourselves? He wouldn't send a representative, or just a box of gifts and a thank you letter, no, Squanch would show up and spend as much time as the family would want. Nothing is more important than making young fans happy. There is no better feeling than watching a kids face light up when one of their heroes walks in the door and is like "Hey, I'm here for you kiddo." Absolute no brainer, if it is at all possible Squanch will be at the party, no doubt. Do they go? If so, what do they do to make the day memorable for the child? If not, why? Romulus would absolutely follow through with the request to show up to a young fan's birthday party. There are a lot of reasons why, namely one would be; He's been there! He knows how much it would mean to a young fan to have an idol walk into his birthday party, he had plenty of those idols growing up that would have made his dream come true growing up. Another is that he could help out in by becoming a pillar in his community, giving back to others after finally making it to the big leagues after all these years. He would go there and bring gifts (football gear, madden, Xbox) anything that would possibly push the dream this boy/girl has to the next level. I would hope that he would have an impact and make the day memorable by just being there, but Romulus would definitely take them out back and play catch for a while. Also would ensure to get them tickets to the next game nearby (Romulus obviously has fans across the world so who knows who is going to be the first birthday he goes to). I think by creating these kinds of bonds, as well as reaching back out to the community that gave him so much, Romulus will have a great impact on more than just the one child he saw that day. RE: (S29) PT 2 - Double Trouble? - Tesla - 06-04-2021 Dear Mr. Rikiya, Hi there Mr. Rikiya! My name is Lianna Poe and I am your number one fan! My Dad ordered me your jersey as soon as you signed with the Yeti and I have worn it every single game day since then! See my Dad was a fan of yours from your time at the University of Washington and showed me your footage when I started playing football. I'm a big kid for my age who got picked on for it a lot, but seeing you be big and strong to help the team really inspired me to be comfortable in my own skin! Before I say anything else I just want to say thank you for inspiring kids like me! Now I have a birthday coming up this Saturday and I got my Mom to agree to host it at the local pizza place so that we would have room for you too! It would mean a lot to me if you came, but don't worry my parents told me you were probably too busy practicing for the Yeti. You guys have been doing really well this season and I would hate to ruin that by getting you to show up at my birthday party so I'll understand if you've got to focus on the season. Thank you again! Sincerely your number one fan, Lianna Poe Agent Tesla: So there is no way in the world that you are going to be able to make the time to go to this party Magnus, but if you have an idea of something we can do to make it up to her I will make it happen. Magnus Rikiya: Think we could get her a set of signed jerseys from every member of the team? Agent Tesla: Consider it done. Even if I have to burn the stadium to the ground and salt the earth to make it happen. Magnus Rikiya: Great! I can't disappoint my number one fan. Code: Word Count: 330 RE: (S29) PT 2 - Double Trouble? - Beck - 06-04-2021 After a disappointing start to the football season, I was happy to see a request come through for a child’s birthday party. Everyone knows that Sal loves two things: parties and food. As I arrived at the party, the attention was all on me, but my attention was on the food table. I’m not necessarily a kid person. So I had to think quick on my feet. What’s something I can do to make this party memorable but also something I’m comfortable with? There was a clown blowing up balloons, a bounce house that would explode if I tried to get in, and since to my dismay no beer to help me get loose. After signing autographs, I glanced up to a glorious site. The kid’s dad walked by with a big tray of hot dogs. Suddenly I knew what my purpose was at this party, and what must be done to make sure this party was unforgettable. There were enough hotdogs for 70 people. I decided to be generous and set my goal for 50. Before singing happy birthday, I gave the kid my cell phone and had him count down from 10 minutes. What he thought was impossible soon became reality as I plowed my way through 54 hotdogs in 10 minutes. The kids was thrilled, the parents were less than because most of them missed out on food. 231 words |
