RE: (S31) Ultimus Week - Tacoshoppe - 10-26-2021 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? (5 TPE) This was my first season on a major league roster, and I wish I could have contributed more to the team’s success. I think that I wasn’t expected to do a lot as a slow earning backup Tight End but I feel like in a few situations, my player could have done slightly better. I think some positives that came out of my player in the season were the fact that I only allowed 1 sack while getting 30 pancakes. This is an area I hope to continue to do well as the team continues to come out of the current rebuild. I also think my player will continue to be an asset to the team as we have a very mobile quarterback and my presence down low could provide an easy escape route when we need to pick up a quick first down. My favorite moment of the season was catching my first, and only, touchdown of the season which came in the 7th game of the season against the Austin Copperheads. Although it was only a 2 yard reception, that seems to be my specialty as I continue to build my player. I also enjoyed converting 25% of my receptions for first downs. When I first build my player, this was something I wanted to focus on. I wanted to be on a team that had Wide Receivers that could stretch the field and I could provide a threat that would be able to be the safety valve. I am excited as my contract remains to stay with the New Orleans Second Line because I think they have a very bright future as we saw in the first have of the season. It was quite a surprising first half of the year as we started the season 6-3 which has to be better than most people would have expected us to do. We are a team that has a lot of rookies, including the quarterback who had an outstanding season to say the least. I think he has a very bright future as we continue to build around him. The second half of the season was not nearly as impressive as we lost the remaining 7 games of the year to end with a 6-10 overall record. That does put us in a position to get the third overall pick in the coming draft which should lead to another top talent. I will reiterate, I think the Second Line have a very bright future ahead of them, we showed flashes of what we can be and with most of our players on the way up, rather than headed out the door, I am excited to see where we end up at this time next season. I think we could be on the doorstep of the playoffs. Code: 468 words 31. Affliate PT from either SHL/PBE/WSBL. The Weeks must match with the timeframe of this UW. (2.5 TPE) WBSL Affiliate RE: (S31) Ultimus Week - y2bobman - 10-26-2021 14. Another season of relative disappointment for L’Gazzy Burfict and the Arizona Outlaws. Last season it was a case of so close yet so far, and this year the expectations were rightly sky high. The locker room was stronger than ever and influential S25 players (Burfict, Triplet, Crunk, Pama and Roth) were at their peak. But as seems to be the case, well, the random sim generator seemed to have other plans. The Outlaws started off as expected; a dominating victory in New York who had finished 2nd in the ASFC in season 30. A good sign, surely. But two close defeats would soon follow. Firstly at home against the Austin Copperheads - maybe that could be called a “tighter” fixture as they’d finished 3rd in division last season. And then in the following match, on the road in Orange County. The Outlaws finished on 14-2 in season 30 and here we were, on 1 and 2 already. Week four brought a home victory for the fans to enjoy with a 24-17 victory over Honolulu, but this good feeling was short lived as defeat number three came at home to NOLA soon after. The team regrouped and scored well in San Jose before getting well and truly overridden by season 30 Ultimus champions Sarasota Sailfish. 3 and 4 from the first 7 games. Baffling. So into the second half of the season and a push to at least make the post-season. But this started poorly with a defeat on the road to the Wraiths. Next though, sign of improvement at last. Four wins on the bounce. Yeti brushed aside, a tight win against San Jose, another tight one on the road in Chicago and making it 2 from 2 with another victory against New York. Four games to go now, could the Outlaws do it? The bad luck returned though - defeat to Austin again and, more alarmingly, to the Otters. The 4-12 Otters beat the Outlaws twice. That is simulation football right there, ha. A couple of late wins (in Honolulu and New Orleans) allowed the Outlaws to scrape into the playoffs. But the journey ended at the first hurdle and the team were off on their holidays sooner than everyone had wanted. So all in all, a pretty disappointing season. As mentioned at the top, expectations were pretty high so in truth it is disappointing. At the end of the day we’re here to win and that hasn’t happened. In terms of Burfict and his individual numbers. Well the outlaws LB core is stacked and i’m happy to share the stats with the other players. There is no individual ego here. Apart from chasing that dream of returning a fumble one day. That is the only individual accolade i’d be sad not to see come retirement. But there is a hope to win an Ultimus ring one day, the Arizona team (and in particular the GMs) deserve that. Will that come next season, in the first S25 season of regression? Well who knows to be honest. I’ll go give Derek Acorah a call and see what he thinks. Code: 515 words 29. My idea on awards may not be a better way of doing things, but would at least make things a little more transparent. I think the way forward should be via Twitter polls. At the moment a lot of players put effort into keeping up a Twitter presence and it’s an impotent part of creating that player image, making them feel real. The NFL can have polls through twitter to decide players of the week (although there isn’t much point, just copy and paste Jamarr Chase right now). Twitter polls are another opportunity to enhance the visibility of the league, the visibility of the players. Another chance to knock people down a peg or two perhaps. If it’s good enough for the second best football league, then surely its something which could be adopted by the number one in the business. Let players see who votes for them, how many votes clear they were of the next player, what their peers really thought of their performance in that standout game. Let GMs who vote tactically be shown to be what they are, pantomime villains. All in the name of fun of course. Do it ISFL, bring the awards to Twitter, let the players have more visibility and more of an influence on the game we all love. Code: 217 words 31. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? For Rodka Raskolnikov the pressure was finally on. After his rookie year, being shielded from the stiff competition as he was behind both Mason Malone and Sharpei Jr. Even as a 4th option as Huntsman was another favorite target, Raskolnikov impressed with 51 catches for 775 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns. With Greyducks losing many key pieces to call ups the time to step up was now. “I know I can succeed, I’ve put in a lot of hours training and learning from last year's success. It helped having such great players around me to teach me. Now I’m the one to lead by example. It didn’t hurt winning the ulti-mini as well.”. For the off-season Rodka would train religiously and get his mental work in the right track. As the time came for the new season and a rookie QB to sling, many threw away the notion that the Grey Ducks would be in contention. Many of the writers did not even have Raskolnikov as a consistent pass threat. “I kind of took offense obviously, I know I’m good so it was a bit of a slap in the face. Just because the team had better players in front of me in my first year doesn’t mean I couldn’t do what others could. For the most part I felt I was being overlooked because of how good the team was.”. For Raskolnikov the dominant season was just starting. He would finish with 74 catches for 1371 yards and 13 touchdowns which was a tie for the most receiving touchdowns in the league. The 74 catches were one of the fewest for a top 10 receiver. There were some lows, but it was mainly team lows. “We had some good pieces left, but many new young rookies came in to try to fill the huge gaps that the veterans had left. Me and Malone tried to make it a little easier for Worthington III but it was a brand new offense for him. He played fantastic for a rookie”. “There isn’t much I could have done differently. I think I went out there and played my hardest and kept the team in positions to help win. Obviously the team was coming off of back to back championships but with the overhaul finishing top of the division was nice. Moving forward I’m just trying to improve bit by bit, until I’m called up and get to help the big team out. Next season I’m going to be even better. Plus the rookies are going to improve as well”. Task 15 Ahh Disneyland, the annual celebration of the MVP being sent to Fun land to pretend to enjoy while having to do a media tour and shake a bunch of hands. For my money I would go with the player that made the biggest plays on the biggest stage. That being G. Fields. His defensive plays is what allowed Hahalua to win the Ultimus. Fields were all over the field, get it? Field on field. But anyway he was very distributive for the opposing offense. He would record 4 tackles, 5 pass deflections and 1 interception. Fields afterwards would go away from the field to the mouse field. Fields would have a great time overall going on the rides, meeting all the fans. He’s had hand injuries before, with all the interceptions in his career. But it was never like the hand cramping after signing all those merchandise. But the high of winning a championship, winning the MVP, going to Disneyland, when it ended, you could see the exhaustion on Fields face. While it was fun and great, he is only human. “We would like to congratulate G. Fields on a tremendous success this year and we expect more from many more years”. 26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? Football. Foot. Feet. Ball. There has always been a bit of controversy in terms of why the sport is called what it is. When there was already a sport by the same name that… well used more of the feet. But now the time for bickering is over. Rule changes are coming and must be accepted. We need more feet. No more cleats. Only bare feet. The football is not going to be in the shape of an egg? But now it will be in the shape of a foot and will be exactly 1 foot long. There will no longer be points, but feetsies, so 1 Touchdown or Footdown is now 6 Feetsies. We’ll change the field goal to a foot goal, endzone to flavortown. You kind of get the idea. All of our teams will need to incorporate more feet in them. Yeti will now be called the Cold Feet. The Otters? Wet Fur Feet. We will be the driving force in rekindling the foot fetish all around the world. Adult sites will be littered with Foot fetishes and ISFL sims. Our ranks will grow, and expand. We will dominate as the new sport and gather mass following due to our hard working feet. RE: (S31) Ultimus Week - Tesla - 10-26-2021 Tier Two - Task Ten - 400+ Words - 5 TPE Magnus Rikiya: Three losses. Agent Tesla: This one was much closer than the last two at least though Magnus. Magnus Rikiya: The goal of every team is to win an Ultimus. I am lucky enough to have gone there three times with two different teams, and unlucky enough to have lost all three games. Agent Tesla: Your first appearance saw you lose by 32 points Magnus, second saw you lose by 24 points, but this one was decided by just 3 points. You were a field goal away and I do not think there is any shame to be had in that. Magnus Rikiya: We took them to fourth down twice on that final scoring drive and if I made the play on either of those we might have won it. No one player can account for 24 points or 32 points, but I could have made the difference of 3 points and I failed. This one is on me and being the third time just hurts that much more. Agent Tesla: Does it hurt because it is the third, because it was that close, or honestly does it hurt more knowing that age is catching up to you? Magnus Rikiya: My recovery after the season for competing in the World's Strongest Man is getting more difficult and when the season starts I have found myself struggling to move like I used to do. This was probably my last chance at hoisting the trophy. Agent Tesla: You have another season in you Magnus and we will do our best to get you there for one last chance. Magnus Rikiya: That is not fair to you or the rest of the Yeti. I should be the one doing my best to get the team there; not the other way around. I probably do have a season left in the tank, but I hate that I am going to be a borderline liability for it. Agent Tesla: I promise you dear that the team does not feel that way in the slightest and would be happy to have you around longer. We have known that you wanted to hang it up while you still had it though, and courtesy of your top tier training I guarantee you will be in game shape this season. Magnus Rikiya: I hope so. Agent Tesla: Do not forget you are still in the running for Defensive Tackle of the Year this season dear. I honestly think you have a strong case for it! Magnus Rikiya: Weird to think I had one of my best seasons when I am over the hill as a player. Agent Tesla: Just goes to show how dedicated you are to your craft. Magnus Rikiya: I know you are my agent, but you are also the general manager now. Shouldn't you be addressing the rest of the team? Agent Tesla: I was your agent long before I was general manager of the Yeti. Making sure you are in a good spot is important to me. Are you going to be alright? Magnus Rikiya: I will be now at least. Thanks. Agent Tesla: Think nothing of it. Now time to check up on the rest of the team. Code: Word Count: 535 Tier Two - Task Twelve - 400+ Words - 5 TPE I am going to pick someone who I got to learn more about courtesy of being the general manager who does awards voting for their team. Also someone who I know about fairly well from their time in the DSFL as their name came up a lot when I did my work as Highlights Princess down there. There is also the fringe benefit of the fact that I consider the user a friend and so I am sure they will not mind me singing the praises of their player some in a point task. The player in question is rookie quarterback Dexter Zaylren of the Berlin Fire Salamanders. Despite being a rookie he finished the season sixth in the league in yards, fifth in the league in completion percentage, tied for fourth in the league in passing touchdowns, tied for the league lead in fewest passing interceptions, and finished fourth in the league in passer rating. A rookie of the year performance in my mind and surely the mind of others. I would say that this is a considerable leap in comparison to their minor league career as they saw an increase in performance across the board despite the much stiffer competition. In the minors they got off to a rocky start in their first season completing just 207 passes on 419 attempts with a passer rating of a mere 69.7 courtesy of a sub 50% completion and a 15 to 10 touchdown to interception ratio. They improved their second year though with an 89 passer rating on 466 attempts with an almost 60% completion percentage and a full 1000 extra yards going for 3462 on the season. Their touchdown to interception ratio also improved to a 29 to 16 for a strong sophomore season. It got rough the following year as they were tasked with a bigger work load of 541 pass attempts that led to 410 fewer passing yards, 9 fewer passing touchdowns, 1 more interception, and a drop to a 69.8 passer rating. Still completing passes over 50% of the time so better than the rookie season, although not by much. Final year in the minors saw the kind of Dexter that we have seen in his rookie year in the ISFL and the one we expect to face going forward though as they completed 341 of 554 pass attempts for 4330 yards their first over 4000, their first season over 60% completion percentage, got 33 touchdowns breaking the 30 mark for the first time, with just 13 interceptions for a better than 2 to 1 ratio for the first time in their career, and lastly a 96 passer rating for their first season over 90 in their career. Overall this season is not a huge leap compared to their last if you just look at per game statistics and efficiency metrics, but given the jump from DSFL to ISFL I am comfortable saying it is quite the leap in the grand scheme of things. Also leads to a player I am not looking forward to having to play against every season for years to come, but I do hope they manage to make Laser happy. Although not to the detriment of my dear Yeti, and on that note what they could do better is hopefully learn to be swept by the Yeti while beating down the rest of the division. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) Lalo Salamenca won the Ultimus MVP in all likelihood, after catching a 1 yard touchdown to give Honolulu an unlikely as heck win. Given that hes got the italian mobster name thing going on like Luca Scabbia, I assume that he's some sort of mafioso type who got into the ISFL for money laundering purposes. So Lalo would go with his mobster friends to Disneyland. It would start with them discussing murder plans in the spinning tea cup rides, then them getting scared on the rollercoaster while pretending not to be. After the rollercoaster ride, Lalo would need his jacket readjusted to its hooked around his shoulder but not actually worn through the arms. Then the whimsical italian string music would come up again as they continue their jaunt through Disneyland. Next up would be a test your strength mallet thing, and Lalo's associate, Bigger Tony, would take the test, break the mallet over the target to get a max strength score, and win a limited edition Marlon Brando plushie. Then a baby would fall off of the Ferris wheel, and Lalo would make a spectacular one-handed grab to save the child from certain death. As Lalo posed for pictures, his associates Bigger Tony and Lenny the Sneak would go on the ferris wheel, using it as a sniper point to assassinate an American politician attempting to delegalize the controversial drug known as TPE (Total Pectoral Energizing). With the hit and vacation day done, Lalo walks off into the sunset, secure in the knowledge that a ring makes his career meaningful, just as much as his deadly associates and hangers-on make him feel tough. ~~~ Code: 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here. Sarasota has long desired a move to Tampa Bay, as the ISFL woke up one day and realized Sarasota isn't a big market and therefore needs to move. With that in mind, Sarasota is exploring preliminary plans for a Tampa Bay stadium. The stadium will be called Five Guys Field (they were the most willing to pony up the big bucks for sponsorship), and will seat 75 thousand screaming Sailfish fans. Among other things, the stadium will feature a hybrid turf, soft enough to avoid causing permanent injury, but not too soft that it disintegrates under the wear and tear of an ISFL season. It will also feature a retractable roof of some description, which always stays closed because elements are not allowed to affect play in our sim. The stadium will also feature many crap-free washrooms, with fully functioning sinks, as well as several state-certified kitchens to increase the quality of local concessions. There will also be many high-profile luxury boxes, designed to attract Tampa's financial elite to watch their games in a classy manner. Finally, the dressing room for the visiting team will be made as cramped as possible, ensuring a ridiculously terrible preparation environment for upcoming games against the Sailfish. The home locker room's amenities will of course be much better, complete with TPE syringe dispensers and comfortable massage tables. ~~~ Code: 30. The World Football Association was established last season and has run through its first season What do you think about the WFC as a whole and how it has been shaping out. I am worried about some aspects of long-term viability. Teams like Canada and Europe might have long-term difficulties keeping acceptable amounts of players, and would be reliant on transfers from the dregs of the other US teams. Not to mention, if a point comes where each team lacks an adequate Quarterback, then they can't move the ball at all, regardless of the other talent in the 21 other positions on the field. It also seems like the YouTube numbers weren't that great for it, with some not even being aware that it was happening when it did. Maybe some clearer communication could help? There are some cool positives though. Being able to represent my IRL country in sim sports is nice, even if Spence's background was a bit of a hodgepodge that wasn't necessarily meant to represent Canada in the first place. I do like the Canadian logo, with the loonie type thing going on, it offers some possibilities for red white and gold to be our jersey colours, which is a flashy combination that might move some IRL merch if we ever get that going. For the league in a "if this were real" sense, it was also good to see Team World in the finals, as it would inspire a generation of non-Americans to see guys like Jackson Kingston and Eleven Kendrick-Watts establishing themselves and inspiring the next generation outside of America to play well. ~~~ Code: 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? From all accounts from veteran users who lived through both sims, it seems to be a case of new boss, same as the old boss. Offense is probably slightly better in both leagues, but there are a few concerns. It seems QBs just aren't allowed to run that much anymore, making scramblers less useful than IRL. Also it seems this sim is still taken over by a speed-first mentality in the way the game turns attributes into player performance, it hampers the ability of builds like Possession Receiver. I've got a lot of TPE but haven't put together a second respectable season at all, and the low YPC hampers Sarasota's offensive attack on longer downs. I also feel like the sim still can't manage a game clock in realistic fashion. 2 minute drills get real finnicky, with teams taking spikes at weird times, and never being able to get out of bounds, and taking too long in some instances to run hurry-up plays. 3rd down spikes and stuff like that are still a regular occurence more than they are in the actual NFL. I will say that the presentation is a big improvement though, instead of having a ton of the field off-camera, you get to see exactly how the routes look and how the defense breaks down. RE: (S31) Ultimus Week - captjanko - 10-26-2021 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. (253 words) The Minnesota Grey Ducks stadium has recently undergone a redesign for its field and after two championships it makes perfect sense to rebuild the stadium itself. As a player on their way to the ISFL and previous Captain, I fortunately have a few thoughts on how this sacred ground could be improved. First, a Hall of Sizzling. Obviously Morpheus was the first to sizzle in name, but in spirit, there is a long history of sizzling on and off the field. Not every player can join the hall of fame, not every player can have a statue built outside their stadium, but a hall of sizzling can act an opportunity to reward players on championship winning teams. Fans of the game can walk though these halls to see busts of their favorite players who won historic trophies and take pride in the memory of better years. Second, this stadium should aim to be the greenest stadium in the world. Underground metro entrances, parking lots with solar roofs, state of the art cooling and heating systems, there are many opportunities to be carbon neutral, if not carbon positive, and this stadium should aim to lead the planet in advanced green technologies. Finally, this stadium should have a built in go-kart course. Everyone loves go-kart and there are few more fun ways for a team to bond after big wins. Being able to rent out the stadium to the community for go-kart racing inside the stadium’s concourse would immediately be a unique and exciting opportunity. 19. If your player had a show starring them, what would the plot be? (205 words) TV production values are at an all time high, just look at Foundation, WestWorld, and Squid Game. Bold directing, producing, and story telling is being rewarded globally as long form stories told via television series’ are being pumped out faster than most viewers can track them. If given the opportunity to star in a tv show, Morpheus’ show would attempt to redefine reality tv and documentary tv in the same way Morpheus redefined how a player might sizzle. Mindfulness and existential joy are pursuits often discussed yet hard to communicate. One could read an entire textbook on existentialism itself and leave with only a vague notion of what the word means. Mindfulness practices are on the rise globally yet best practices are truly custom and difficult to define. A reality tv show covering Morpheus, titled “The Sizzling Soul,” would follow Morpheus’ daily trainings, his interactions with friends and family, with each episode bookended around a meditation or question. As viewers learn more about Morpheus the viewer might find that they are learning about themselves as well. The show would be directed by Denis Villeneuve and produced by Guillermo Del Toro as the meta of the show asks whether or not Morpheus is the Kwisatz Haderach. 22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? (307 Words) Sports bring out tribalistic, animalistic, and the most basic instincts out of fervent fans. The screams, chants, and tonal energy of an Ultimus game is legendary, something that might only truly be appreciated once during a fan’s life time. And as such, for generations, half-time shows have been produced to match and then heighten such extreme energies. However, if Morpheus has his opportunity to choose entertainment, he will bring a new dimension, never before seen, to half-time shows. The high wave must eventually crash. And in its swell, sometimes, a larger wave follows. The half time of the Ultimus is a swelling crescendo. Teams have made their early statements, fans know the coming half will determine the final results, and Morpheus’ half-time show will take that energy and crash it into harsh rocks. Spoken word beat poetry. Haikus. Soft acoustic music from Bon Iver. This tribe of 80,000+ fans will allow their energy to mellow to calms never before seen in a stadium. BBC news casters will come and describe what is happening outside the stadium in hushed voices. But the energy will rise. Improvisational Jazz artists will be given free rein to play to their heart’s content. Soft rock will be introduced with heavy environmentalist themes. Loud politicians aiming to save the world will be given 2 minutes to give stump speeches to give the stadium the belief they might save the world. And finally, every fan will be given a VR set to see their personal favorite musician play their favorite song just for them. When their song ends and the fan takes off their VR set, the stadium will be pitch black. Drones will fly throughout the stadium, spelling out “You are LOVED.” And then, they will explode into fireworks as the players run out onto the field for the final half. You’re welcome. 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? (239 Words) The moment Morpheus decided he wanted to be a football player, he knew he wanted to be a Defensive End. Lining up at the edge, rushing the Quarter Back, there is no greater thrill than beating the Offensive Line and breaking down a play via sack. However, there is one role that Morpheus has secretly always desired. That of the water boy. Sure, they may not wear pads, but have you seen how swift those water boys are when sprinting across fields to hydrate their team mates? The skill and precision in mixing the perfect gatorade? The ability to carry multiple towels to wipe the sweat off players? The soul seeking redemption spends time in church. The body seeking refueling raises their hand in hopes of garnering the attention of a water boy. There is really no difference between a cleric and a water boy except the water boy immediately brings strength to the flesh of the players he cares about. Morpheus has always been a team first type of player. And often, when sitting on the bench, he watches the water boys, constantly running and caring for their team mates with a sense of jealousy. To spend an entire game carrying the team on their backs, insuring the health and physical capacities of teammates, Morpheus can imagine fewer meaningful pleasures. So, while Morpheus is happy with his position, he would hesitate if asked to become team water boy. RE: (S31) Ultimus Week - r0tzbua - 10-26-2021 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here. 2.5 TPE So Honolulu is getting a new stadium, this is very great because the current stadium had some shortcomings that a ISFL stadium should for sure not have. The biggest example: There were no manta rays. Like none at all! How can the stadium of the Hahalua have no Manta Rays, that is heresy! So now there will be no grass on the new field. Not even turf. The playing field of the new Hahalua stadium will literally be glass that looks into the ocean so the players can play the game and at the same watch the beautiful fish wildlife of Honolulu. Manta Rays! Sharks! Clownfish! And a ton of corals, it will be beautiful. Of course a lot of players and teams in the league were against it at first, because playing on glass kind of sucks, but as soon as they saw the renders and some live videos from under the ocean they just decided to not do any tackles in this stadium anymore. It is just too beautiful to not do it. Wildlife people were against it at first too because they thought it would be an aquarium and will put a bunch of ocean life in a glass tank, but no! It is a swimming stadium like a glass floor boat. 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? 2.5 TPE This is an interesting question, because soon I am in the position where I have to think about recreating since my player has now done his first regression and thus I have to think about how long I will keep Guy Fields alive and how many seasons of regression I am willing to take. So what will my next player be is close to the question of what my current player would have been. Back when I created there was a bit of a lack of defense in the league which is why I chose Linebacker (little did I know that this would be a very strong LB class later). I think if it was not for Linebacker I would have chosen an offensive position, since none of the other defensive positions seem that much interesting to me. I know I would not be a Quarterback. A lot of Quarterbacks are created by General Managers and are tied to their team and I feel like that is not the route I would have wanted to go. Personally I think one of the receiving options seems most interesting to me, so either be a diva Wide Receiver or a diva Tight End although I am leaning heavily towards Tight End. As for my next player? Who knows what happens until then, maybe I will change my mind. 26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? 2.5 TPE Coming from Europe myself my view on Football (or American Football as we call it over the pond) is probably a bit different than those of people who grew up with it. I was introduced to football in the early 2000s when it started to become a bit bigger in Europe. My first few games that I saw where only Superbowls because those were on TV, everything else you had to find yourself on the Internet. So what would I change? I do not think too much, Football seems to be in a good state mostly, the things that are annoying to a lot of people are the same that are annoying to me: Mostly it is tailored too strongly towards ad revenue and TV. Too much stop and go, I think you could take some of the breaks out of it, or shorten them up. Also I think if you would introduce some of the XFL stuff like the Extra Points from different distances that would be a fun introduction, I do not really see the appeal of Points After Touchdowns from kickers. Moving them back did not change that too much, the kicking game is just too good these days. Other than that I think we are in a good place there although I personally enjoy the three downs and the Receivers running before the ball is snapped that the CFL uses, so I would love to see how this would play out in the US. 30. The World Football Association was established last season and has run through its first season What do you think about the WFC as a whole and how it has been shaping out. 2.5 TPE I enjoyed the first foray into trying an international format in the ISFL a lot. I thought it would be a lot harder with a very US american-centric sport like Football but the idea with the different American teams based around location was actually very smart and played out pretty well in my opinion. My team did pretty well and I liked the different brandings and the form of the tournament as well even if we did not win it. The General Managers generally did a great job as well as I know from the SHL that it can be hard to find a dedicated group of people who can take care of a team well. The only change I would really like to see in the future is seeing a junior version too to get the newer players from the DSFL level engaged as well. Right now it seems like an old people club and it feels strange that a big demographic of players can not enjoy seeing themselves play on the international stage. But I get why this is hard, especially early in the process and I mentioned the problems with getting people engaged to lead a team already, but I would love to see it develop more in the future. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to? The Season 21 draft class was tremendous on paper and has proven to be worthy of the hype that it received eleven seasons ago. There were several re-creates of users that had tremendous players in the past: Firestorm-Fjord, Blackstone, Quaid, Yoda, Noble Jr. and McDonnell. As of season 31, twenty-five different S21 players have made at least one pro bowl. Compared to other draft classes, the s21 draft had talent well above the average draft class. Going into the draft I thought Blackstone would be the consensus #1 overall pick to the OC Otters. Blackstone shockingly fell to pick #7. Looking at the stats Blackstone will retire as one of the greatest defensive ends of all time. Vegeta, a safety and the class TPE leader at the time went first overall to the Otters and had a very good career, even if it was a little bit short. Otis Allen, a highly underrated DT, went 2nd overall. He doesn’t have a ton of individual accomplishments but he was part of two championship teams with the Sabercats. He is one of the few S21 players remaining in the ISFL. Flash Panda went 3rd overall to the Liberty. He was touted as a great locker room presence. He had a solid career but most of it was spent on the rebuilding Liberty. PickSix was a highly talented lock down corner that was a great earner early on, he had a few great seasons with the Sabercats before a relatively early retirement. Kross, the 5th pick to the Hawks became one of the biggest busts in ISFL history. I was teammates with him in the DSFL where he was a great earner. Covid was a big reason he fell off the pace compared to his classmates. Firestorm-Fjord was an elite prospect that position switch from TE to CB. He was a tremendous player for the Butchers. The 8th pick was a huge reach in Dorfus Jimbo, a great locker room presence but he was a below average earner. Douglas Quaid was the 9th pick by the Wraiths where he still plays to this day. He has had a good career winning three Ultimus trophies and has quietly made his way up the all time leaderboards in several key defensive categories. The final pick of the 1st round, Riles McTackle, didn’t have much of a career, he burned out pretty quick. Some steals of the draft would be Ed Barker. He was the 18th pick and has put up hall of fame worthy stats at WR. At the time of the draft Dax Frost was one of the top 3 highest TPE earners. But being a RB his stock fell, the Wraiths got him with the 29th pick. He is best known for changing his name to Chan and becoming the lead RB for the Sailfish. Perhaps the biggest steal of the s21 draft was James Lewandowski. He was the 65th pick by the Baltimore Hawks. Lewandowski has been an elite TE for several years and still plays on the Sabercats to this day. As for future Hall of Famers, let’s take a look from a pure statistical perspective. I might be missing one or two worthy players but from a brief overview these seem to be the ones that stick out the most. Locks: Barring a shocking turn of events, these players should be admitted at the first opportunity. Blackstone: 2nd all time in tackles for loss with 114. His 77 career sacks place him 25th, but accounting for the fact that he was a DE it’s much more impressive. He has been with the Yeti his entire career. Barker: He has career totals of 734 catches for 11,730 yards, and 73 touchdowns. Those totals rank 8th, 4th, and 12th all time, respectively. He will go down as a New Orleans football legend. Questionable: These players may be lacking in an overall résumé that might shy them away from some HOF voters, but they do have a chance to get into the ISFL HOF. Smalls: The longevity and effectiveness of Smalls is evident in his career totals. He his third all time in both extra points made + attempted and is also 3rd all time in field goals made and field goals attempted. Being a kicker it would always be tough to protect him in the expansion draft. The Silverbacks didn’t mind and have had a reliable kicker ever since. Quaid: Quaid is currently 5th all time in total tackles, 16th in sacks, tied 6th in forced fumbles, and 1st all time in fumbles recovered. His entire career has been with the Wraiths. Frost: This player changed his name about five or six times but has the 8th most rushing yardage of all time and 6th most rushing touchdowns. Despite being a Wraiths draftee, his entire ISFL career has been played on the Sailfish. Lewandowski: This consistently effective TE has the 19th most receptions of all time. Accounting for position he looks to have the 5th most career receptions out of all the TEs. With the Ultimus come and gone, there is one thing we can all likely agree on: the dark horse team, the Honolulu Hahalua, came up big in big moments to take the crown in a surprising fashion. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s review the playoff teams and how they came about to be in the tournament. New York Silverbacks The New York Silverbacks limped into the playoffs with a losing record of 6 wins and 10 losses for a point differential of plus 5 (375 points for versus 370 points against). They are not considered to be contenders in the playoffs. Honolulu Hahalua As already mentioned, the team from Hawaii snuck in to the playoff race with a record of 9 wins and 7 losses and a point differential of plus 33 (373 points for versus 340 points against). This put the Hahalua firmly in the sixth seed, despite having a better point differential than the 2nd seed Colorado Yeti. The Hahalua battled hard all season, yet failed to secure a victory over a single team with a winning record, beating only the New Orleans Second Line (x2), Orange County Otters (x2), New York Silverbacks (x2), Baltimore Hawks, Yellowknife Wraiths, and San Jose SaberCats. This lack of dominant play set the expectation that Honolulu would be an easy out for any of the teams in the playoffs, as they all had winning records. Arizona Outlaws Last year’s team to beat and Ultimus runner-up was the Arizona Outlaws, who looked to repeat their dominant Season 30 regular season and steamroll back into the playoffs. That was not exactly the case for the Outlaws, as regression had hit hard and reverted the team back closer to the average, resulting in a 9 win and 7 loss season with a point differential of plus 69 (443 points for versus 374 points against). The Season 31 regular season saw some regular highs for the Outlaws, putting up wins against two of the three top teams in the NSFC, but also some lows in dropping both games against the Austin Copperheads and the bottom dwelling Orange County Otters, providing half of their season long win total. Considering Arizona had exceptional experience in the playoffs, true superstar talent on all phases, and a penchant for showing up in big games against good teams, the Outlaws would’ve been a fairly safe bet to go far in the playoffs again this year. Austin Copperheads The head of the ASFC and owner of the best record in the league for Season 31, the Austin Copperheads came out hot and finished strong to end with a 12 win and 4 loss record, sporting an impressive point differential of plus 118 (457 points for versus 339 points against). The high powered offense and suffocating defense put the Copperheads as the cream of the crop and the overall favorite to take home the trophy. Berlin Fire Salamanders The Berlin Fire Salamanders entered the playoffs with a record of 9 wins and 7 losses, featuring a point differential of plus 98 (458 points for versus 360 points against). Despite being the bottom seed of the NSFC, the Fire Salamanders can put up points and defend well, giving them a real shot at upsetting some of the higher seeds in the playoffs. Chicago Butchers The Chicago Butchers entered the playoff racea s the 3rd seed in the NSFC, despite having an equivalent record to 2nd place Sarasota and a higher point differential, not that it really mattered since they would play each other regardless, I just found that interesting. Anyway, the Butchers finished the regular season with a solid 10 wins and 6 losses and a final point differential of plus 122 (452 points for versus 330 points against). Chicago was up and down all season, splitting the series with the top seeded Colorado Yeti and the second seed Sarasota Sailfish, giving them a real possibility to come out on top in the NSFC. Sarasota Sailfish Last year’s Ultimus champions, the Sarasota Sailfish claimed the second seed in the NSFC after a 10 win and 6 loss season, resulting in a point differential of plus 89 (568 points for versus 379 points against). After a streaky season the Sailfish finished strong, winning 5 of their last 6 games. They did, however, drop both games against the top seeded Colorado Yeti, and are unfortunately not the most likely candidate to repeat as champions. Colorado Yeti The Colorado Yeti entered the playoffs as the NSFC’s top seeded team after finishing with 11 wins and 5 losses, the second best record in the league, however they did only have a point differential of plus 30 (465 points for versus 435 points against). The Yeti are truly the wild card of the playoffs, as they showed the ability to win close games, lose close games, and be on either side of a blowout. As we saw, the Hahalua and the Yeti made their way to the championship game, where in a very close game the Hahalua were able to tackle a streaking receiver in bounds to run down the clock before the Yeti could kick a field goal to tie the game.
