Blue Ridge High School has reached out to me and asked me to coach a game for them while they are in the middle of restaffing the head coaching position.  This is not something  I expected, as Im still playing so coaching never has crossed my mind. This team is undersized, undermanned, extremely untalented and everything else you can think of about a small town school in upstate New York. Thanks to this day in age, and the use of social media (and being my former school just 3 years prior) everyone on the team knew who I was. I didnt need to introduce my self. The players were in awe of my presents. The kids must have dug deep and found a new gear none of them though they possessed. Playing one of the better teams in the district, the boys came together to compile over 700 yards offensively and scored 7 touchdowns! Going against the most stout defense in high school football in the state of New York in almost 50 years! Defensively they were terrible. GIving up scores just as fast as they would score. The final stand came witth 5 seconds left. A out route by the WR was picked up by the youngest player on the defense and preserved the win for the RAIDERS!!!

Mario Messi was invited back to the school to be a guest coach. Since he was a player for all his career, Messi was very excited to take the role of being a coach, which might be his future career goal once he retires. He was trying to help the team to win a game against a neighboring school during the weekend. His strategy was very aggressive, lining up four WRs for all passing plays - Messi explained that this strategy makes a lot of sense since the running backs are not very strong or fast, so he just played the strength of the team. During the game, Messi's team experienced a lot of interceptions, and the morale was so low that Messi could not figure out some strategy to encourage the players. In the end, he put on a panda costume to make his team laugh since he thought happiness is the best remedy for the failure on the pitch. He also danced on the sideline to attract the opponents' attention to disrupt their attacks; however, his own team got more attracted to Messi's dance, and Messi got a foul due to this. After the game, Messi was interviewed for his feeling about being a coach. Messi was glad that he could try the shoes of the coach and promised that he would never laugh at his own coach again.

Mac Griddles' old high school contacting him in the middle of the season to coach for one game was unexpected but he thought it sounded fun so he agreed in hopes that he might even get offered the job full time. Now Mac has no coaching experience other than playing Madden for hours on end and yelling at college football games about what he would do different so this was a bit of an adjustment for him. At first he actually tried pretty hard to come up with a good game plan but ultimately decided that it was just too much work so he printed out sheets from the Georgia Teach playbook on an NCAA game and installed the triple option for the week. Practice was hard and took some adjusting for these young players as they were used to throwing the ball up to 40 times per game but Mac thinks the triple option is awesome and the players really can't do much to stop him. As for the defense he actually did a halfway decent job trying to plan for the opposing teams offense and the team and the rest of the coaching staff feel confident about it. He refused to practice special teams all week except for returns and onside kicks, Mac doesn't believe in punting, kicking field goals or just kicking an extra point, he figures why kick when we can just go for it. Macs team won 77-0 and the school is still deciding if he should get a full contract or not.

It’s my very first game as a head coach of my former high school football team. Well, actually it’s my very first game as a head coach. Or any kind of coach. Of any sport. Of course I’m nervous, but I’m also excited. Mostly nervous, as I’ve never pictured myself coaching in the future, or the now. We’re in the locker room, we’ve already finished warming up and we’re about to hit the field for our hometown fans. It’s dead quiet as everyone waits for me to say something. “Alright guys. Uh, let’s just, um. Let’s go out there and score more points than the other team!” The room erupts, for some reason. I can tell that I’m not cut out for this. Okay, it’s game time. The game goes better than I thought, to be honest. For the most part, I just let the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator run the show. They know the team better than I do. I’m not even sure why one of them isn’t the interim head coach. I’m probably just a publicity stunt, oh well, this is fun. We’re down by 2 with just a handful of seconds remaining. We’re on the 20. That’s an easy enough field goal, right? It’s not a chip shot for a high schooler by any means, but still. I call for a field goal and the coaches and players grimace at me. “Coach, we may have forgot to tell you that we don’t have a field goal kicker on the team.” Uhhh what? I guess we’re chucking it then. Somehow, someway, we pull it off with a screen pass to our star running back. I’m going to have to make sure he’s a Butcher someday.

Back in 2034 I was a freshman in high school at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois. I really enjoyed my time there. I got to play all over the field. I played wide receiver, right end, and outside linebacker before finally deciding defensive end was the best position for me. Sophomore and Junior year we won the conference championship and won the 7A Illinois State Championship my senior season. It was an awesome time and I really enjoyed my time at the school. I like to take any chance I can to give back to the community. So this summer when I got the chance to come back to the school and work with kids, I said absolutely. They have a really good program this year, maybe as good as the teams that I was a part of. I remember the passion and dreams I had back in high school and I see that same passion in these kids. I want to share everything I have learned away at college and in my season and a half in the DSFL. I want to help train these kids to be the best that they can be. I spent the summer helping with conditioning and block shedding drills. I even got offered a job to stay on the staff permanently. Unfortunately, I turned it down. There is plenty of time to coach when I am done but lots of football left for me to play and I need to get back to work.

Walt Green walks across the school campus. Nostalgia fills him as memories of his youth days race through his mind. He remembered what it was like to meet a new head coach. It’s never a comfortable transition. He is here to help make it easier for everyone. The school asked him to be interim coach for a game, which that too created mixed emotions in him. He was excited to do that for his alma mater, but was sad for the previous coach. He managed to maintain a good friendship with every coach at school, thanks to Green’s on field success in the ISFL. The game went as expected. Nothing to crazy or outlandish. The students enjoyed having a star on their sidelines, something they teased the other team about. Green just appreciated being involved with the sport again. He hadn’t done anything football related since he retired. This was his first time back to being active in the sport community. Maybe coaching is his next calling. The game finished with little drama. The team took a large early lead thanks to their hyped up energy that came from having an ISFL start coaching them. All the kids seemed very receptive to any little encouragement or training suggestion he game, even if it was as simple as Green expressing concern about a players stance before a snap.

Ricky Stanzi in his first PT is heading his way back to Cleveland, to coach a game with his old high school. While I haven't written the wiki page on how Ricky did in his high school journey, let's just say he was a dominant force that led him to his recruitment to Iowa. In Ricky's return to coaching(which was more of a publicity stunt as he continues to look to join a DSFL roster for the remainder of this season), he got to coach his #12 squad in the state vs the 0-6 Jaguars. Sure, it was a cakewalk, and that's why they were willing to let Ricky coach it, but Ricky was still super nervous about this big game ahead of him. There was a lot of media attention on this former player, and whether that would mean an end to his playing career or just a one-game stint. Ricky's team started out strong, but then the game slowly tightened as it went on. Ricky never wanted to be a coach, but the PR opportunity was too good, and any press is good press, right? The game was close throughout, but his team pulled away after he found a few plays deep in the old playbooks from his high school days. They asked if he wanted to coach a bit more as an assistant, but Ricky quickly declined.

Maui Waialiki received a call after his last game of S27 that the high school he went to in Hawaii was in trouble and needed some help. The program had fell apart in the seasons after Maui left, and went from champions to losers. The problem was mostly in the trenches, as the school lacked heavy playmakers up front to do any serious damage on both sides of the ball. So Maui, naturally, agreed to fly out there and hopefully inject some spirit back into these kids. It was rare to see a Hawaiian player make it to the ISFL, but to see one go in the first round, that was inspiring to many of these kids, and Maui became somewhat of a hero for many of these young athletes. When Maui visited his old high school, he started the training regiment and opened a summer camp for everyone in the high school. The camp was a success, gaining national attention and the headlines of many sports journals. Maui loved it so much he decided to make it a recurring event, and he will return this offseason to hold another summer camp, and teach younger kids about football also. He wants to open it up to more skill positions, and maybe also get some of his teammates to come with him and make this summer camp a premier training organization.
