RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - Sebster - 08-01-2021 Starting from the age of 8, Willie had trained to play football. He bounced around from school to school and program to program due to his father’s job taking him all over the country. Much like his travel life, he bounced around on the field. Willie started out as a quarterback, before moving to running back and then wide receiver. Nothing seemed to stick until he tried out cornerback and then it was like a symphony on the field. Everything seemed to fall into place like a timelapse of a jigsaw puzzle and finally all the hard work and dedication was showing itself on the field. Had he not pursued football, I’m sure another sport would have been able to convince Willie to give it a shot, and to the surprise of no one, he would absolutely excel there too. If all sports are off the table, instead Willie would probably be a teacher of some sort. Any job that would allow him to give back to the community that built this local legend would be good in his book. Maybe a teacher, maybe a community center employee, maybe a coach, maybe even some sort of politician. Whatever it takes to give the kids, and the families what they need. (210 words) RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - sve7en - 08-01-2021 Madison Hayes' decision to move from rugby and track into American football was a hotly contested decision 4 years ago, and while that debate has mellowed out some after numerous accomplishments and a rookie of the year award, the decision itself is still a curious one in hindsight. Hayes, while not having an immediate impact in England, was on a fast path to being one of the countries stars and had an outside shot at being a multiple sport athlete at the Olympic games. Regardless of her track career trajectory, Madison was expected to at least be a mainstay in English rugby for the next decade and the decision to either jeopardize that or at the least reduce her focus on rugby was a curious one. With how she's developed over the last 4 seasons in America, it looks like most of what was projected for her was on the table, and at this rate and with full focus on her original two sports she would have been one of the more famous and recognized English athletes of the current era. It will be curious to see if at the end of the gridiron career she decides to take a step back or re-join the rugby squad in full. 209 words RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - 37thchamber - 08-01-2021 Considering a different career path is a strange exercise for Raphael Delacour, because, thinking back... there hasn't really been an alternative for a while now. "You know when I was a kid, I didn't really see myself as an athlete, but I liked the performing arts, so probably that path. Not exactly an easier road," he shrugs. "But once I started on the athletic path, that was it. I didn't ever really consider another path again. Not unless I was thinking post-retirement, I guess." This is a strange thing to hear from a Harvard graduate, who produced and directed a short movie that gained acclaim at the Maryland Film Festival when he was still a teenager, but it shows the degree to which sports run in his family. "It's only my sister Elaine who isn't really athletic," Raphael explains. "The rest of us, dad, Soph, elite athletes. Even mom was athletic in high school. Elaine just hasn't ever really cared for it, but even she's involved in sport, doing analysis stuff. So I guess growing up in that environment, it was sort of inevitable for me to end up doing what I do." But what about film? His degree is in Film Studies after all. "Film was something I got into by accident I think. I wanted to be a musician like my great-great-grandfather when I was younger. I'd listen to Granny Lucille [his father's grandmother, to be clear] telling stories about him and she'd play his music and I'd just sit there thinking he must have been so cool. I wanted to be like him." Raphael says. "I remember nobody in school had heard of him though, not even my music teachers. So I think it was just one of those moments where I'm realising 'someone needs to tell them about this man', and I made a short film about him for a school project. I got some great feedback and it spiralled from there." He goes on to clarify that he does love film, and his recent forays into acting have been enjoyable, but that he's focused on his playing career first. "I have to do everything I can to meet Pop in the Hall before I do anything else," he laughs. "I don't want to retire with regrets." RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - xenosthelegend - 08-01-2021 If Jake Fencik never got into the ISFL, there are a few choices for where he would be right now, but I believe two of them are the most likely outcomes. Having achieved challenger in league of legends in high school, Fencik would likely be playing competitive league of legends, or streaming. In the competitive route, Fencik would be one of the best players from his region, North America. That being said, the region as a whole would still not improve for various reasons. While winning almost everything in his home region, Fencik would win nothing internationally. China and Korea still have a stranglehold on every international event. Eventually he would leave and be the first North America player to play in Korea, where he would finally find success internationally. Eventually he would either get burned out and retire, or go out on top after winning worlds. The other path of being a streamer is one where Fencik starts out small, but is able to attract a loyal fanbase due to his high elo content. His main source of income in this path is twitch donations, until he gets big enough to earn sponsorships. Those are the most likely futures for Fencik if he never got into the ISFL. RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - Tomen - 08-01-2021 Konstantin Selich never really had a lot of thoughts about pursuing another career than his current one in football. The first choice probably wouldn't have been done by him but rather by his parents in never allowing him to even play american football in the first place. The Selich family has some ties to another professional sport which would be ice hockey. Seeing as how Konstantin spend his childhood in Canada while his dad played for the local Yellowknife Wraiths a career in hockey wouldn't have been too far fetched. Considering the height and size of Konstantin he most likely would have wound up playing as a goalie. Konstantin would have moved down to Colorado where there is a decent infrastructure in place to pursue hockey at a more professional level and would have eventually ended up attending the University of Denver to play hockey in their program. Normally Konstantin would have loved to attend the same college as his father which was FAU but considering they don't have an ice hockey team this wouldn't have happened in that alternate universe. If Konstantin wouldn't have chosen a career as a professional athlete he most likely would have chosen a career in the medical field. RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - DELIRIVM - 08-01-2021 Sakeem Webb has always has a knack for cooking. He currently has a segment where he shows up on the local Dallas 9 News to cook with one of their main anchors. He has always found his passion outside of football was fusion cuisine. So the ultimate choice for an alternate path career for Sakeem Webb is that of TV chef. Already known for his off the wall sense of style and personality, there is no doubt that Sakeem could be someone in the vein of Guy Fieri, only making better food. Early on in his life Sakeem attended french cooking classes and was extremely close to going to Culinary School instead of going to Colorado to play football and get a degree in broadcasting and linguistics. One of his favorite dishes to make was that of Flamiche, a medieval dish, that is a type of tart or pie often cooked in the northern region of France. He has always had a taste for the high end French, Italian, and Spanish cuisines. But has recently taken to creating a fusion with Jamaican cooking, which was common in his household as a child as his mother was Jamaican. But, to restate, if he wasn't an up and coming safety for the Birddogs, there is no doubt that Sakeem would be cooking up a storm in a great kitchen somewhere on the East Coast. Around high school I got told it was time I had to make a choice and stick to one thing and put all my effort towards it. I chose football obviously and my choice led me here to the ISFL. I always get asked why did I choose football its dangerous, there is so many injuries, but to me it was more than that. It was the thrill of the constant action, sure I maybe could have went the baseball route and made a bunch of money that way, but I like staying in the moment and I feel with football a big thing is you always need to be on your feet and ready to adjust and it just builds onto the excitement of never knowing what type of action is coming next. If I didn’t pursue football I was getting scouted early on by some teams in the Pro Baseball Experience, so I would have chosen that if it didn’t go here and who knows what kind of career that could have been, maybe ill pull a Jordan and go give it a shot who knows. 214 RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - krazko - 08-01-2021 While growing up Calvin Hobbes was playing a multitude of sports... Football, soccer, ice hockey, golf and baseball to name the ones where he was considered to be a very promising prospect. Up until the late teenage years he was juggling all the sports along with schoolwork and friends (although there was very little time for that). The very limited free time he did have was spent with his tiger, drawing comics that had a wholesome spirit and inspired those fortunate enough to have read them. The choice for Calvin came when he was going to college and was asked to chose one sport to focus in and keep as his priority focus... After long deliberation and many late nights discussing with friends, family and coaches the choice landed on football and Calvin's path was set. While Calvin's backup choice would have been ice hockey and most likely a similar life style in a different climate, with long travels and lots of working out. The likely scenario for Calvin if football had not worked out and he wouldn't have made the big leagues, would have been a pursuit of a career as a comic creator. His history and background creating comics from a young age had secured him a large portfolio and already drawn some interest from some syndicates. However interesting that universe would have been to follow, it's not one that is destined... Calvin is meant for football and that is what he'll play as long as he can! Had his amateur football career never taken off in quite the way that it ended up going then he would probably be running a maintenance and operations team for the Jutland municipal authorities. driving around the road network ensuring pot-holes are fixed, knowing all the best off-highway cafes, all the back-route shortcuts across the country, and generally having a fairly chill time of it all. I am not sure if this would have been wholly satisfactory with regards to Chet's ambitions in the world. He likely would have continue to play, and maybe eventually coach one of the teams in the European gridiron competition. And maybe this would have sparked a drive to make something of it. maybe he leaves the public authorities and starts a small contracting business, maybe he grows that into a middle tier contractor serving civil construction in denmark. maybe that gives him the financial stability to take some risks with the European gridiron scean. |
