(S21) - PT1 - Reloaded - toivo - 03-13-2020 SHL PT (S21) - PT1 - Reloaded - KillKillKill - 03-13-2020 Winning the Ultimus last season was done, in large part, on the strength of our offense. We had a lot of firepower in Austin and a lot of our games came down to a shootout. This season, it seems we have chosen to try and bolster our defense. The old saying that defense wins championships may not apply to this league, however. The drive to improve our defense influenced our first three picks of the past draft. In the first, we took Riles McTackle the game changing DT. Following that pick, we took Holden Smothers, another anchor piece on the defensive side of the ball at LB. Pairing Smothers with Edmond and Bakshi is a great look and will no doubt pay off. The next pick was a CB in the 4th round by the name of Jeremy Quellers. So suffice it to say, Austin brass went heavy and hard on defense. What remains to be seen is will the offense repeat its strong showing from last season and allow the defensive additions time to grow. There wasn't much turnover, if any, on the offense so it does look good for the short term in the way of repeating success. Let's hope it works out in Austin. Code: 206 words (S21) - PT1 - Reloaded - Briedaqueduc - 03-13-2020 After an emotionally tough end of season for the Buccaneers, losing in the finals of the Ultimini 28 to 3 against the Grey Ducks, Myrtle Beach wanted to bring good prospects to perfect their roster and try their luck to the Ultimini again. So, they've brought in 36 rookies to replace all the call ups, which there were many of. The Buccaneers started by replacing their star Safety Prince Vegeta/Jeffrey LaVert by drafting with their first round pick Johnny Hellzapoppin. Myrtle Beach also added some big offensive linemen to complete their offensive line, bringing in Bruce Buckley from the land down under and Jorcher Minor, joining two other active OLs. Myrtle Beach also acquired the steal of the draft in Kal Solarin. He originally came in as a linebacker, but recently switched to kicker. Myrtle Beach having recently lost their kicker John Smirh, picking Solarin at 93rd overall is really gonna help our team out, and Kal could very well be the next kicker of the year. The last pick I wanted to mention real quick is Tom Sofa, who currently can't really have an effect on the team because of his disease, but his presence is really felt in the locker room. I also want to quickly give a shoutout to all the other rookies we drafted, they also are contributing to our success. (226 words) (S21) - PT1 - Reloaded - SwankyPants31 - 03-14-2020 While the Tijuana Luchadores offense clearly runs through Ed Barker, the send-down running back from the NSFL as well as yours truly, Richard Gilbert to switch up the pace, their greatest acquisition this season is rookie quarterback Ben Slothlisberger. While at first glance Ben was a great choice to fulfill the need at quarterback, he is made into an even better choice due to the fact that he is an experienced veteran in the league who recreated his character. Slothlisberger provides a presence of veteran leadership and a role model to the Luchadores locker room, which is especially important in the current season due to the massive draft class and influx of new users who benefit from his experience. Other notable additions include wide receiver Thomas Passman, who currently leads the DSFL in receiving yards. The combination of these two help take some of the pressure off the one-two punch of Barker and Gilbert and keep the offense from becoming one dimensional. On the defensive side of the ball, rookie linebackers George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher and Devaunte Sackpieder have made immediate contributions, the former racking up 13 tackles in his first two games and the latter tallying an interception and a sack. Last but not least, it wouldn’t be a Luchadores post without giving a nod to the fabled Tijuana Wall and a shout out to the two newest additions, Calvin Golladay and Sylvester Berlin. WC: 234 (S21) - PT1 - Reloaded - roastfuego - 03-14-2020 Look our team was already extremely stacked with some up and coming young players, but we brought in two key guys to help on both sides of the ball: Juniped and Jeff Personsacker. Personsacker is able to help anchor a fast defensive line. Watch out as I have had the unfortunate experience of lining up against him in a one versus one thunder dome drill where he placed me on my back before the whistle had even finished sounding. Man has earned the name Personsacker and I will not be surprised to see him be in the finals for some defensive rookie of the year nominees. Then on the other side we have our Swiss army knife in Juniped who can play running back, wide receiver and I have even seen him putting in some reps over at returning some punts. The work ethic from Juniped will definitely help put our offensive prowess over the top. If he is not at least even in the conversation for breakout player then I will be surprised. Our team was extremely young and with this draft we were able to keep that trend up. We may not be worldbreakers at the end of the season but we were able to grab some cornerstone for the future of the liberty. Ring the bell! The Royals started off by drafting QB Colby Jack to lead the offense and then took the first LB off the board in Derred de Ville in the second round to lead the defense. In the third round the Royals were in a position to draft the best available player and did so getting CB Cadillac Harris 18th overall. After the Kansas City Coyotes drafted RB Kevin Fakon 21st overall, the front office was ecstatic to get RB Acura Skyline who they had ranked ahead of Fakon on their draft board. With the main offensive weapons secured, London would spend six of their next seven picks on the defensive side of the ball. DE Sandro Ryeu in the 6th round to lead the defensive line group and S Quinn Hughes in the 7th round to call the plays for the secondary. CB Eldrick Avery, DT Tristan Gronlie, CB Ben Stackinpaper and DT Clayton Jones round out the defensive selections. The Royals were able to pull off some late round steals as well in 13th round pick LB Cadillac Mitchell, 14th round pick S Ed Ball, 16th round pick RB Jacoby Batista and probably the best value pick in the entire draft, TE Donatello Arrabiata in the 19th round. With the offensive and defensive leaders that the Royals were able to pick up this draft, the template for how to be a London Royal should be set for the future generations. The savvy drafting int he later rounds might be enough for this team to make a playoff run this season. WC= 291 words (S21) - PT1 - Reloaded - KoltClassic - 03-14-2020 This perspective will be slightly different from what the prompt requested, as I myself am one of the additions to my own team as a drafted rookie this year. It isn’t hard to tell that San Jose had a focus on defense in their draft this year, using their second pick on me and their fourth pick on HeHateMe PickSix. These picks are already proving to be beneficial for the Sabercats. Through three games we are league leaders in interceptions, tied for second place in defensive touchdowns, and top 4 in sacks and passes defended. Although there is still rebuilding to be done in San Jose, I think that these additions will provide for a solid foundation that will allow for us to be in competition for the Ultimus championship down the road. I believe that this is where the true value of this draft will best show itself. I was drafted to eventually replace Freezer Riposte, who is rapidly approaching retirement as a S12 rookie. Once he retires and I move back to my true DT position, we will bring up this year’s third round pick Chip Otle, a true steal and stellar defensive end, to round out our young and dynamic defensive line. This talent in the trenches, coupled with the leadership of PickSix in the secondary, will make San Jose’s defense a force to be reckoned with. (S21) - PT1 - Reloaded - Voltaqe - 03-14-2020 The Baltimore Hawks may not have added a ton of pieces to the team during the offseason, they did add high quality pieces in spot that were very much needed. With only two S21 players making it onto the roster you know that the team was already solid and was just missing these pieces to push them over the edge. One of these pieces happens to be my player Chris Kross. The Hawks lost one of their wide receivers during the offseason so coming into this season it was looking to be a one man show with only Errol Maddox. That’s why in the draft the hawks picked me up. I look to be a great second option behind Maddox so that way all the defensive backs can not just be looking to one side of the ball. Although I haven’t gotten much targets yet I have gotten some key ones. With only 3 receptions in 3 games I am already sitting at 2 touchdowns. That low target but high impact play is what you need from your wide receiver 2 with such a big star like Maddox. On the other side of the ball we have our other rookie in Sardine Beaner. Although his numbers aren’t huge like some other defensive tackles it’s the stats you don’t see that make him such a great addition. Just like Kross he is there to keep the defense honest and make sure they cannot just ignore one part of the pass rush or he’s is gonna make them pay. He has shown this by getting a sack while the defense was too focused on the other parts of our line. With these new additions we plan on making it so teams can never rest. If they do it will end up biting them in the butt. |
