(S23) - PT1 - With a Little Help From My Friends - Matty7478 - 06-18-2020 It may be a surprise for those who have only looked at the Index from last season, but the San Jose Sabercats are in the middle of a drastically needed rebuild. Last season - on the backs of breakout performances from offensive players like Deondre Thomas-Fox, Action Jackson, and Dan Wright - the Sabercats shocked everyone with an 8-5 record that only narrowly missed out on playoffs. But the sun has set from that year much quicker than some could even imagine; Action Jackson left for a team in the Wraiths who have a similar Championship window to his. Dan Wright took the tough decision to retire from professional football. Deck and Staley on the defense would also be gone by season end, ultimately showing what this season is for the team - a throwaway season necessary for the future ambitions of the team. It should not be a shock that Monty Jack - the starting QB for this season - will definitely struggle as the vast majority of new QBs do in the NSFL. However, there will still be talk of a rookie who deserves award consideration in this team: Jamar Lackson already is proving how great a runner he can be at this level, and may stake a claim for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. And there will be talk about slightly more veteran players in other position groups likely as well; with the changes to the TEotY vote, Leon McDavid could find himself in with more chance than ever before. And Matthew McDairmid, the strong-legged K/P will be an important part of this rebuilding season for the team with his punting capabilities. In the end, we at the Sabercats just want to win games, and although that may not happen a lot this season, we will cherish the moments where it does happen that much more because of this fact. Well, if pre-season factors into anything, a lot. Norfolk has been an absolute blast to play on and this season is going to be no different. I've been involved a lot in Norfolk and invested a lot of my time. After just narrowly making it to the playoffs last season, our goal this season is obviously to ensure, we do not just narrowly make it, but clinch a birth and not lose in freaking overtime again (yeah, it stings still, okay). Norfolk added a lot of quality players through the draft, and added a quality player through trading, obviously our goal from the get-go has been to use our players as much as possible through all of our streams (returnees, draft, trade, etc) and bring the quality of our team to life. It will be a challenge, our team has lost some great core pieces due to call-ups, but we're not worried, we're not scared, we know we've got this, and that is what counts. You're for us, or against us, but it'll be a damn shame if you're the latter, because we're here to prove everyone wrong. Now, there are many nay sayers in this league that doubt the Butchers, but at seen by Week 2's dominance over the Liberty, the Butchers are here. And they are here to stay a top the NSFC division. The Wraiths are aging out, The Yeti are even older. I couldn't even name a player on the Baltimore and I couldn't even name the expansion team in our division. And here is the beauty, the team who has been saying how good they are compared to the Butchers just got teed off on in a game and took a heavy L. The best part is I'm doing all this in one of the most positive and tasteful locker rooms in the league. We have 10+ S21 or S22 players on the roster and they are all contributing each week. After many All-Star and LB of the Year snubs last year, Mike Hockhertz has given up trying to prove how corrupt the league is. Instead, he's all for promoting his rookie teammates on defense to try and get them the recognition they deserve. New safety Eric Richards is an immediate impact player and should really get an all star nod leading the secondary of one of the best teams in the league. (S23) - PT1 - With a Little Help From My Friends - benstackinpaper - 06-18-2020 When it comes to being a breakout player this season in the NSFL, nobody fits the bill like Baltimore quarterback Chika Fujiwara. This has already been demonstrated this season by Fujiwara in two great games versus the top teams in the league. In an upset win against the Yellowknife Wraiths in Week One, Fujiwara dominated the defense on the way to a three touchdown performance. That game would be followed by another three touchdown day in a narrow defeat against the defending champion Colorado Yeti. The league has taken notice and Fujiwara is among the top earning fantasy players in the league despite not being drafted in most of the leagues. In the Hawks locker room we have seen the drive, dedication and hard work behind the scenes to be mentioned among the great quarterbacks in the NSFL. All of this is despite being hundreds of TPE behind those other great quarterbacks that are now trailing Fujiwara in league wide fantasy points. As the season progresses, expect this high level of production to keep up as the Baltimore Hawks are a much better team all around this season. Chika Fujiwara will end up getting invited to the awards banquet this season as a nominee for NSFL quarterback of the year. If not already the top TPE in offense. Our defense has been effective and we added more key pieces I have been effective already to our team and the off-season. Torenson has always been an effective running back and I imagine this season will be no different. Fuzzy Dotson has gotten better as well and I feel like that is an effective one two punch that will hopefully be able to take most defenses by storm. While our receivers may not be the best in the league I think we have a chance to be really effective and we are going to continue to be really effective. Nacho Varga is sitting at 1230 tpe Which is the maximum for a wide receiver And should be an effective Target for Brock Phoenix who has gotten more accurate and smarter in the offseason. Avon blocksdale Junior has always been an effective tight end and I think that he will continue to Be an Effective piece of our offense. Now I'm not as knowledgeable with our defense but I am excited about the key members that have been added and I believe that we've got the unlucky the first couple of weeks in the season but I have faith that we can turn around and I think we have a strong case to make a playoff push. This is the start of our windowl and my opinion and I think now is our chance to make the playoffs if ever.
