(S23) - PT2 - Draft Day - enigmatic - 06-26-2020

I think it's no secret that I wasn't happy with where I was drafted in the DSFL. I ended up on a really fun team that helped give me back an interest for the league so I can't complain much anymore but I was a bit shook the night of the draft. I understood that I didn't pick a position that would have teams fight to get me but I never fell past the first round in this league and I was drafted 3 times. Ending up in the 6th round was quite the shock.

I mentioned my choice to play as WR as a possible reason why I was picked so low. But looking at the draft, I was the 7th WR selected. 7thhhh. I think my draft interviews might have been a better reason why teams weren't willing to select me before. I was honest with what I wanted. This isn't my first league, I built a good reputation as an at least decent LR person so I thought it was the right way to go. Switching positions did not interest me and I let that be known. I was also never a fan of joining a LR unless I was part of that team so I didn't let any of the teams know me before the draft. I'm a bit old school and back in my day, if you weren't part of the team, you weren't part of the LR. Period. I joined a few NSFL LRs leading to the draft, I guess just to show that I wasn't LR cancer and because it seemed like common practice these days but ironically, I wasn't even picked by a team where I posted before.

Reflecting back on the draft, I really had no idea what to expect. I mean I think I was reached out to by every single DSFL team, which really wasn't a surprise to be honest, but after speaking to all of them there was no real strong inkling of where my landing spot I might go. After being a GM for a good bit in the NSFL, I know the DSFL world is quite a bit different in terms of drafting and how those GMs tend to go about it. I mean you've got a bit of different things that you have to look for and I know a lot of teams tend to go for players that might be fringe max earners and therefore would stick around to be on their team for more than one season. Knowing myself and what I'm capable of I really don't fit that mold as I'll be a 1 and done type of player more likely than not so I actually expected to fall in the draft. Falling in the draft in itself opens you up for even more possibilities as teams that might not have looked at you before now might. In the end I was taken by Tijuana which was pretty cool having my 3rd player be for a 3rd different DSFL organization.

S21 Draft Day was an amazing experience. The Bucs were fresh off their 12-2 season and a lot of their players would be taken in the early rounds. Prince Vegeta was the consensus number 1 pick of that draft. HeHateMe PickSix was another high 1st round pick. Leon McDavid as well.

Draft day s21 was definitely something to remember, with the reach picks of Juniped Catfish and Scorp that busted many people's mock drafts. Dax Frost falling due to a position change to RB when not many teams needed another RB.

Murphy's surprise retirement after dominating the DSFL with an impressive start to his career sent shockwaves around the league as well. It just seemed like there was something for everyone in this draft as the drama was high and the excitement was even higher.

One of the biggest classes as well to emerge from the DSFL, this was one of the first present day mega drafts and a lot of hopefuls were taken. While many of them have gone by the wayside now, a lot of the top tier players in the league are starting to show, and most of them are from the s21 draft class, so it will be nice to see how they progress as their careers unfold.

Draft day was one for the ages for Griff Oberwald. I thought I would go roughly in the Fourth Round, but honestly, I had no idea which team was going to make a move for me. It is hard to be me, since you know, I am the best blocking Wide Receiver in the League. People just do not value what I bring to the table sometimes, and I guess that is why I fell so far. The draft came and went, and pick after pick, round after round, I just sat there and waited by my phone. Finally, My phone started to ring, and low and behold, it was the Great Chicago Butchers reaching my line. I have concluded, that even if they are that bad of a team, they are going to need my services to help bring them to the promised land. I’ve done it with the Reikland Reavers, so it’s time to do it in the NSFL. So, I gladly decided to tell them to bring me up to the big leagues right away so we can start taking heads and making an impact on this game. I am proud of the team and where we are at so far, even though our win and loss column says otherwise.

Being invited to attend the NSFL draft live in person was a good sign. It must be. I'd had great conversations with a number of teams, a few of them with multiple picks in that first round. Sitting in the green room with the other prospects I chatted with those I knew from Myrtle Beach, still high on our ultimini success, and getting to know a few others who I'd faced off against. Then I counted the heads, there were more of us here than picks in the first round. Some of us were going to be disappointed.

Then the picks started rolling in, nobody surprised by the first couple of names rattled off by the commissioner. Then there was a chance I might be amongst the next few teams. There had been promising conversations with GMs during the scouting process. I was happy for deserving teammates get their names announced and get a moment to shine in the sun. But I also could see that at the bottom of the draft were a number of teams with picks all but locked in. The last team who I'd spoken do during the process with a pick were Yellowknife. The phone rang. It was a Canadian number.

I was working up until the Season 22 NSFL draft began. Over the previous couple weeks, I had communicated with scouts from almost every NSFL team. Some went better than others, but I was super happy with how they went overall. I was part of a pretty stacked NSFL draft class alongside other high TPE RBs who were also very consistent contributors. Many NSFL teams did not really need an RB and so I was able to eliminate quite a few teams from my potential landing spots. Other teams really didn’t have enough high picks to draft around where I thought I should go or had to fill in more glaring holes with those picks; especially since I wasn’t very eager to switch positions. Overall, I had narrowed it down to maybe 3 or 4 places I was fairly confident I’d go.

Gucci’s player was the first RB taken off the board near the end of the first or beginning of the second round, I can’t quite remember. This was certainly not surprising as he was really the only high TPE RB recreate who also had GM experience. I knew there would be a decent break because of the depth of the RB class, but with the 6th pick of the 4th round, I was selected by the Austin Copperheads.

This certainly wasn’t a huge surprise as they had to eventually replace and aging veteran, however, I certainly did not expect to be the second RB taken in the draft…I had thought maybe third or fourth was more realistic. However, I think my experience in the Dallas Locker Room with Copperheads’ players inverted and iSteg really put a good word in for me with the Austin brass.

Needless to say, I was elated. My path was clear. I was drafted to a competitive team with a good number of players that I get along with. Additionally, once their all-star RB hits regression, I would have a clear path to becoming a number 1 RB. This lit a fire in Kichwa, he needed to live up to his hype and prove that Austin made the right selection.

The National Simulation Football LEague draft that I was drafted in Was honestly a surprise. The year before I had been drafted in round six of the developmental football simulation League and honestly do to how I have an earning I expected to be drafted at or below That level when I was drafted that year. Running backs are already drafted fairly low because it is a low demand position with a high amount of people wishing to do it that's all I'm the best get drafted and even then the draftees on his highly-touted what's more important positions such as defensive backs for the defensive line. so again to start off I didn't expect to get drafted very high at all. on top of that I had talked to a lot of different teams and nobody really gave me any indication that they were super interested in me. every time I talk to you said they would keep me in mind but because of my position there wasn't a lot talk about me. one thing however that I think did work out in my favor what's that I was willing to change positions. So when I heard my name called third overall it was crazy I was super shocked. I did not think then that I deserve to be drafted that I and I still don't think I deserve to be drafted high but I do know that I wouldn't want to be anywhere but Philadelphia. I am constantly humbled by how much Faith they put in me as a player and as a team member and I hope that I can continue to live up to the things I want for me

The day of my draft seems like such a long time ago go but I will do my best to recall my thoughts and my feelings with how it went. I wasn't expecting too much I had joined as late as possible to be allowed in this draught class and what is more it is a famously small draught class with all this in mind and the fact that I was extremely new to the league I didn't fully understand what a big deal it was. In the week's leading up to it I've spoken to to a number of teams surprised and the team that picked me out of all the teams had the most in-depth conversation with them m and had spoken to not one but both of the gms. Position I will take that which was 8th overall it's not really a surprise either Factor was new combined being an offensive position meant that I was always going to go and back end the first round. You can back however I have become somewhat of a steal 7 players picked before me only two others are still fully active and from my lonely position that starting in week 8 I went on to gain the 15th most tpe overall ever I love the team that I went to and I'm so glad that it happened.
