In high school, with growing up in a small midwestern town, I was the biggest and strongest player on my team, heck even in the conference. This posed some problems because I simply didn't have a way to get better because no one could really compete with me. This is when my father, Dick Tank, took me to our neighbors farm and showed me how to round up pigs and hogs. Have you ever had to try and catch a greased up hog? Yeah, good luck with that. I would spend hours chasing the damn things and trying to take them down and this proved to be the help I needed to prepare me for the competition I would see in college and eventually in professional football.

It's actually pretty amazing how easy getting past offensive lineman are now because they're not pigs and how easy quarterbacks are to chase down and tackle because they're not as fast or as greased down as these giant hogs. The problem this had caused though is it made me a little too good on the field in high school that I had to slow down a bit after I accidentally have a couple concussions to some of the other smaller kids who were playing. What can I say? I'm just too damn good to have been cooped up in that area and I wish my parents would have moved out for farmland Iowa to a bigger city. I feel like I would be completely unstoppable if that was the case.

The biggest turning point in Calvin Golladay's career wasn't at a milestone, but instead came soon after entering the NSFL. Having played OL his whole life, it was an easy decision, but upon learning about bots and the lack of OL in the league he became skeptical. Despite his 30 lb advantage over these bots, the beeping and clanking was rather unnerving and he soon questioned whether he'd made the correct choice. Of course, this was before joining the Fair Rub Club. The supportive group of OL reassured the incoming rookies of their natural superiority, and the Fair Rub movement spearheaded by Steg's testing made this the perfect time to enter the league as an O-lineman. Golladay was proud of his contribution in the form of a totally-not-plagiarized speech titled "We Shall Fight in the Trenches." It might not seem like a major turning point in his career, but it was the immediate positive reception that solidified his consistent activity and pride in the OL position. Without the movement, there was a strong possibility he would've changed positions, or, more likely, left the league. The welcoming environment of the Luchadores' locker room helped too, but before getting drafted there would've been lots of second-guessing of the decision to play OL at the next level. Golladay's obviously happy with the end result, and extremely grateful for those that supported him and his fellow OL early in what looks to be a promising career in the NSFL.

Listening to Wu-Tang Clan was simultaneously productive and detrimental to my career. First it knocked me down, then brought me back to a spot higher than before. It all started when I was a wee lad. I was 9 years old when I first head “Wu Tang 7th Chamber” for the first time. Once I heard them say “Champion gear that I rock, you get your boots knocked”, I immediately wanted to wear Champion branded clothing. And by clothing, I also mean my sporting equipment as well. It turns out, Champion did not make great tennis shoes. This impacted my footwork as a young tennis player which negatively impacted my ground strokes. Due to the poor shoes and footwork, I developed a problem known as “tennis elbow”, which derailed my racket sports career at a young age. I made the only logical jump to a new sport and decided to take on football. Although my tennis elbow condition ruined my tennis career, it led me to find my new love, hitting people as a linebacker. And because of my elbow condition, I decided to focus on my speed and finesse to make up for my lack of arm power. My circumstances just happened to be a perfect mixture of life altering events that I was able to work out into my advantage. So thank you Wu Tang Clan, for giving me tennis elbow and leading me to become a professional linebacker. Bring da Ruckus.

Well I guess whenever I'm asked to reflect on one crucial point in my career I always tend to go back to the same one and that was the moment I decided to retire from the EFL. You see that shaped a lot of things in my life, not only in the football world, but for me as a person. Back when I was in the EFL I was pretty unhappy with myself and my career and for the most part it was due to me wanting to be a team player and go along with everything that my managers and people around me wanted for me. In the end that was probably the worst thing that I ever let happen to me and the subsequent retirement led to a shift in everything. From there I decided from that point on I would no longer do something in my career or in life that I didn't fully want to do just to be a team player or be nice. Many of the teams that interviewed me prior to being drafted to the Tijuana Luchadores found that out first hand when I flat out said I would not change positions and that runningback was where I wanted to be.

The biggest turning point for Maz-Ta "Baby" Yoda was his decision to enter in the DSFL (and by extension, the NSFL). Yoda originally started playing football in high school. And even back then it was a miracle for him to make the team, but he attended a smaller school and the bar of entry was much lower than many high schools, who probably wouldn't have even let him try out. When he went to college at the JEDI Academy, football was a long shot, but even when he defied expectations and made the team, many wrote him off as a mercy spot and deemed him the team's unofficial "mascot" due to his cute, non-intimidating appearance. So, when he threw his hat into the DSFL arena, many around him thought it was time for him to finally hit a wall.

And, at first look, it's easy to write off the marvelous munchkin. Yoda has never had a traditional football player's body. Despite hours of hard work in the gym every season and a high protein diet rich in chicken (nuggets), Yoda still lacks the physically impressive muscles of many of his teammates. Even at 5'6", his height is often questioned as many players swear he only comes up to their shins. But through determination and a belief in himself, Yoda has defied all the odds. He may not be making waves in the NSFL yet, but the fact that he even made it onto a pro team's roster, much less as a starter, is pretty amazing when you look at his journey.
