I feel like this is the right time and place to talk about why Myrtle Beach have a great chance to lift the Ultimini this season. Now the DSFL has far bigger flux of team strength than the ISFL due to the nature of call ups, however it has worked out well for Myrtle Beach this season. Sure we have lost a good number of players but going into this season we have strength in all the right places. Now I will admit I am less well versed in DSFL tactics but the keep locations for high TPE players tend to be at quarterback and pass catchers in the offense and at defensive back in defence, which is why Myrtle Beach stand such a good chance. On offense the Myrtle Beach have a veteran quarterback (myself) as well as a couple of veteran wide receivers, a tight end and even an offensive lineman. True both there runningbacks are rookies but much like the NFL but that is a position that rookie can make an instant impact. In defence they have 3 defensive backs and a linebacker which is perfect. They are weakest on the defensive line but again with some waiver luck this could be sure up easily. Watch out because the autumn wind in the DSFL is a buccaneer!

The London Royals were able to bring home their first Ultimini trophy at the end of season 24. As a result, they had several impact players called up to ISFL rosters. This group included six 1st round selections from the last two drafts. Surely they weren’t able to fill all of those holes and position themselves to repeat as Ultimini champs, right? Wrong. While it is true that the players they lost are one of a kind, the Royals were able to strategically acquire talent over the last two drafts, leaving them with playmakers ready to step in at every position of need. The offense will have a different look to it this season with a young wide receiver group, but they will find veteran leadership in capped QB Charlemagne Cortez, and nearly capped TE Frank Michell, and RB Terry Yaki. With talent across the board on offense, they will be able to adjust their game plan to lean pass heavy or lean run heavy depending on the opponent.
The outlook on defense is very similar. A mixture of talented youth and wily veterans. The defensive line is anchored by returning players like DE Mattress Cadaire and DT Brent Silva, but will be helped immensely by the up and coming DE Ernest Lover. The main cog in the machine is clearly second year LB L’Gazzy Burfict, who is ready to step out of the shadows of his predecessors and show he is the next great Royals LB. With rookie LB Logan Sarrasin alongside, the LB group is a fierce one. The Royals secondary sees three returning players that are somewhat under the radar. The addition of S Caven McRae has quietly put the Royals back in the discussion for best DB corps.
This balance of experience and youth has the Royals back at the top of the rankings and in position to fight off the challengers and repeat as Ultimini champions in season 25.

Most of the rules in this league are fairly reasonable and I understand the rational reasons behind them, but there is one major rule that I would change. In the DSFL, quarterbacks will usually end up spending multiple years in the developmental league before being called up to their ISFL team. Quarterback is one of the most important positions in this league for what are obvious reasons, yet the DSFL is considered a “running league”. In my opinion the reason for this is the TPE cap, which is currently a flat 250 across all positions. If I could change one rule it would be to allow DSFL quarterbacks to have a higher TPE cap. If the cap for quarterbacks was 300 or 350 I believe it would make the DSFL a much more fun league and more competitive as well. In the DSFL it is normal for a quarterback to throw multiple interceptions in a game, or for teams to hardly throw it at all. I don’t think 50 to 100 tpe would make quarterbacks overpowered or anything, but would allow for more balance. Inconsistency at quarterback varies wildly and I think letting the position have a higher cap in TPE would allow for more interesting games and strategies.
