Including a Players Association - Deusolis - 07-27-2017 (07-27-2017, 03:53 PM)timeconsumer Wrote:If a team can build a culture that is so strong it makes top tier vets want to stick around for cheap, why is that a problem? Because there's no challenge in building that sort of culture when it entails very little "real" sacrifice. In the NFL or NBA, the choice is seen as being between a winning organization or life-changing, generational wealth. Here, the choice is far easier, as @automatic said earlier: "I can't go out and buy a Maserati because we won the NSFL championship and I got a $1mil bonus. Wtf is the point? I like winning more than being paid $9 million per season. I'll write two articles worth 9 mil and have fun doing it..." While he doesn't speak for everybody (certainly not AC Hackett), that mentality is fairly common. When you take that and factor in that rookies are able to holdout, it seems pretty unlikely that teams towards the bottom have any real chance at improving. EDIT: I don't really have a solution at present, aside from more guys (and gals) RP'ing as characters for whom contract size makes a big difference, or perhaps introducing new mechanics that make having money more important/valuable. They can improve if they can build a locker room culture that generates a infectious enthusiasm. If you think you can't win until other teams become bad then you've got it all wrong from the beginning. I was actually thinking of adding a minor TPE bonus to the highest few paid at each position. That would give players a reason to negotiate. For example, I don't think there are many players here that don't take semi-team friendly deals to help the team as a whole, this is not the NFL we don't starve if we don't get paid in the NSFL, thus the need for a union to bargain for wages and benefits on our behalf kinda falls by the wayside.Well there is that TPEnin drug scandal... lol Including a Players Association - kckolbe - 07-27-2017 (07-27-2017, 02:30 PM)timeconsumer Wrote:Cushing confirmed in cahoots with BercoviciI'm not saying we should implement it now. Maybe starting S5 after we expand again? That would give every player time to play out their current contract. I know it sounds odd, but we give out TPE bonuses for minor stuff at the end of the season, why not make this one of them if it makes for more realistic and competitive contracts? @Ballerstorm Including a Players Association - Admin - 07-27-2017 (07-27-2017, 02:36 PM)kckolbe Wrote:I'm not saying we should implement it now. We have a mapped out schedule for TPE earning per season and how much we are comfortable giving out. As well, this would only encourage people to ask for a cent more than the next highest. People will get big contracts, some people maintain high activity levels but as time goes on many veterans wont want to write as much as they used to and will go for paydays. PS - I dont see expansion happening again for a WHILE. Thats just silly Then again we could just make @ErMurazor pay everyone's salary bc he has like 22M Including a Players Association - kckolbe - 07-27-2017 (07-27-2017, 02:41 PM)Ballerstorm Wrote:Were not giving out TPE for getting a fat contract. Good point about complacency. As for the 1c factor, we could include a rule that salaries have to be in increments of 100k or something like that. |
