RE: (S26) - PT 3 - Oh, the Who-manity! - LewisMelville - 12-18-2020 Well here we are again the end of the year and the festive period is really getting in to full swing. Jeeeeroy Lenkins if the Berlin Fire Salamanders has always been big on giving up his time to those less fortunate especially during the holiday period, and this year is no different. Lenkins hates the thought of children waking up on Christmas morning without having a single gift to open. Jeeeeroy Lenkins has a partnership with his local radio station back home (97.3 Forth One) and is an advocate for their mission Christmas statement, this is as previously mentioned that no child go giftless at Christmas. In order to ensure this happens it takes months of fund raising and tons of generosity from all those involved. Lenkins gets involved in cash drives, auctions off his cleats and signed memorabilia to the highest bidder, completes raffles with all proceeds going to the cash for kids initiative. On top of this Lenkins also donates a fair chunk of his sponsorship money to foodbanks and making sure every homeless person in Edinburgh gets at least 1 hot meal throughout the months of December and January. Due to his generosity his primary school unveiled a statue in his honour earlier in the year. RE: (S26) - PT 3 - Oh, the Who-manity! - Jay_Doctor - 12-18-2020 Most of the charity work Mason does is in the offseason, where he runs a boys and girls camp. Depending on the length of the offseason, there are usually a couple different groups that get to stay for a few days. Some groups check-in on Sunday morning and leave Wednesday morning, the second group Checks in Wednesday afternoon and leaves Saturday morning. During the week, the kids get to participate in all sorts of outdoor activities like rock climbing, swimming, canoeing, shooting sports and many other things. There are also various team building games and exercises throughout, trying build up their social skills. Perhaps the best part of the camp is that it is 100% paid for by Mason and his charity. Only those who came from a split home or only have one parent in their life are invited to attend each year. A lot of these children are missing a parental figure or don't typically have the resources that some in a not split home would get. The camp really aims at providing other means of helping kids in some more difficult home environments. A lot of kids return ever year as well, further helping them build on what they have learned from previous years. Older kids can also apply and work at the camp once they are 14. Over 80% of the camp staff is made of those who attended as a participant at one time. He would do this by bringing some equipment and showing them different moves and tactics depending on their position. He also was giving away some football gear to the less fortunate members who play or want to play so that they are able to do so with ease. Benjamin's biggest thing he did though was donating money to the school's athletic program so that they can buy new and better equipment to help strengthen the athletes during the offseason. He did this because he remembers as a child that he was not as fortunate and he had to save up money to play, and he almost didn't end up playing but his uncle came and paid for what he could not, and because of that deed so many years ago he wishes to do the same for young athletes, because everyone deserves a chance no matter what. One thing that he loved most about going to the school was seeing the smile on the student's faces as he walked into the school, and how they all kinda just swarmed him and were asking him questions about what's it like as a pro and how to go pro and so forth. He hopes to return and do this as often as possible. 234 Words RE: (S26) - PT 3 - Oh, the Who-manity! - The_Mediocre_Pigeon - 12-18-2020 PBE Affiliate RE: (S26) - PT 3 - Oh, the Who-manity! - Guunar - 12-18-2020 Volunteering and being a part of the community is a big deal for Ace Savage since he grew up struggling to make ends meet and relied on the kindness of strangers to get by during difficult times of his life. Giving back is a big part of his DNA and this season, Savage decided to help volunteer at the local soup kitchen. Savage is an avid cook and once he got on his own in college, he made it a priority to learn how to cook good food to fuel himself properly for workouts. Using this cooking knowledge, he was able to help prep lots of different food for the Norfolk Food Pantry and Kitchen. He spent the week preparing salads, chicken, and even brought out his smoker to make some brisket and ribs as a special treat. To make the occasion more special, he brought out his Norfolk teammates: Benajmin Ankers, Bean Beanman, and Vilhjálmur Kueblerson to help on the serving days and they had a great time helping the local Norfolk community. Afterwards, they brought out some signed footballs to give out to people who attended the event and even played a few hours of catch with everyone. It was a great day for the team, the community, and the less fortunate. He grew up with a very loving family and family has always been important. He has worked hard both with and for his family since he was little. It would be awesome to be able to bring even a small bit of happiness or time to let some children in a very difficult situation just forget about medical terms and difficulties for even a short time. Sam would jump right into anything the children wanted to do. He has a great imagination and is at peace playing Barbies as well as GI Joe. He loves video games, board games and most sports. He loves the outdoors and would watch a hunting show for hours if that is what a child wanted to do. Sam would have no issue spending multiple days let alone multiple hours trying his hardest to put some smiles on faces. His mother would be more than happy to spend the day out with him at the Children’s Hospital so it would be a nice chance to hang out with family as well. The hope would be that the time was magical for some children going through very difficult times. RE: (S26) - PT 3 - Oh, the Who-manity! - hotdog - 12-18-2020 SHL PT |
