RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - ComebackZak - 04-18-2021 Despite not being a brand new member, I still struggle with league history. So I am going to talk about my own International Simulation Football League Draft from Season 26. So during the Season 26 Draft, I really thought Tugg Speedman would have been the first wide receiver taken however with the 4th overall pick the Yellowknife Wraiths selected Arthur Naught. If you look at the TPE tracker he has pretty much gone completely inactive and as of this week, he was forced into retirement due to having multiple accounts and players (although apparently they weren't overlapping). I would imagine that if the draft happened again, the Yellowknife would have either selected Tugg Speedman at the 4th overall pick or they would pick their second pick in the first round, Leonard Taylor Jr., at 4th overall and Tugg Speedman could have gone 12th overall. This could have helped the Yellowknife offensively the last season or two as they never got to experience having their pick Arthur Naught play on the team or at least be a high enough earner to help the team while they made their playoff run. I believe Tugg Speedman could have done this and maybe even helped contribute to a championship. Code: 205 words RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - MrStennett - 04-18-2021 Let's take a look at now Hall of Fame safety/linebacker Danny Grithead leaving the Orange County Otters and going to the Yellowknife Wraiths. While I would have a tough time selling that this free agency decision affected the entire team, it certainly affected Grithead's legacy and almost certainly cemented his place in the Hall. Before leaving the Otters for the great, white North, Grithead had two Ultimus championships to his name as well as one Defensive Back of the Year award and one Returner of the Year award. He was well on his way to being an all-time great defensive back, but that's not Hall of Fame level yet. Just wait until you see what Grithead did in a Wraiths uniform. His first season in Yellowknife he won the coveted Most Valuable Player award, recording twelve sacks, over twenty pass deflections, a career high ten interceptions, as well as scoring two defensive touchdowns. To follow up this outstanding season, he won a Defensive Player of the Year award and another DBotY award, and appeared in 4 straight Ultimus games. On top of this, his time in Yellowknife allowed him to set the ISFL all-time record for career tackles. Danny Grithead left a team that had been, in ways, a dynasty since the league's inception, and in doing so, cemented his legacy as one of the best defensive backs ever. Code: 230 words RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - Attopax - 04-18-2021 I enjoy contemplating "what if" scenarios for my player. When I created Asher Montain, I was very deliberate in how I crafted him. Defensive End was a position that I always enjoyed. While it wasn't my favorite position (Safety has always been my favorite position in defense), it was a position that was still among my top selections while still being a position of need. As such, when I was scouted, I told teams I may be open to switches, but that would need to be a conversation before I was ready to commit to that since I had this vision of who Asher was in my head already. I would need time to shake that image away and reimagine him as a receiver, for example. These days, I now know I would've been much more alright with switching and wouldn't told myself to be open to it. The question becomes... would that have changed anything? Would that have changed who I went to in the DSFL or ISFL? Having gone very high in the first round in both drafts, I can't imagine it would have moved the needle that much. But there is something else that could've... For being a newer franchise, Honolulu has had many "What If" moments that could've radically altered the team's course and potentially the ISFL. The earliest and most obvious is the departure of one of our founding GM's Dwyer which left Honolulu short a leader in an already short-staffed War Room, and now short a dependable player at the DT position (not the easiest position to fill which is something the Hahalua have become very familiar with). Having different leadership throughout this entire time could've changed what team I would've gone to in the draft which is always an intriguing thing to ponder about. But we will never know. RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - Tayjay - 04-18-2021 In the Season Twenty-Six draft I felt strongly I would be taken in the first half of the first round. I was worried how some might view my bank but I thought for sure since I was a General Manager in another sim league and that I was open to changing positions I would be taken near the top. One of the teams I felt strongly I would go to was Yellowknife. They had a pick near the top, but they ended up taking a wide receiver. Then the next five picks or so went by and I couldn't believe I had't been picked yet. Then I saw that there was a trade and immediately knew that it had to be for me. Yellowknife had traded back into the first round to take me. So who was taken before my Yellowknife? The recent multi that has been banned from the league Arthur Naught. So I think to myself what would we have done if they would have taken or hit on that first pick. There was plenty of talent. They could have taken another defensive player or even taken one of the two running backs that were at the top of our class. So looking back on that draft it seems like a good idea Yellowknife traded up to get me because Naught was a bust but hasn't hurt Yellowknife too bad. RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - j00 - 04-18-2021 Looking around the ISFL, the only teams with Nickelback positions open were the San Jose Sabercats and Sarasota Sailfish, so chances are, if I was drafted by anyone else, I would be sent down into the DSFL for another season. That's probably the biggest change. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have playing time in SJS though, but a bit disappointed by my player's performance. I'm hoping to snag at least a couple of interceptions by season's end, but doesn't seem like there's much I can do though aside from max earn and hope for the best. So I'd probably be down in the DSFL with Tijuana, who are currently struggling a bit, but that's ok. I'd be able to take the CB1 spot left by Buck Nekkid, and be able to try going for some of the awards that were stolen by CJ Sonjack last season. Due to being a new player and all, it's hard to say what else would be different. I'm sure every locker room is unique in their own way, but I only have Tijuana and San Jose locker rooms as experience. Despite being in other teams' "public" locker rooms, I feel you're getting at most 10% of the experience if you're not part of the team, as everything probably happens in the channels that are only open to roster folks. RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - bex - 04-18-2021 I think that one of the moments that comes down to a single decision that really sticks out for me is whenever the league expands. Obviously there are so many different paths and outcomes that are possible, but it comes down to HO to decide when to expand, and who will lead the charge by taking up the mantle of the expansion GMs. We're in a position where our expansion teams have been able to hit the ground running and really become competitors. One of the things that was considered in the course of last expansion was to do a 4 team expansion. We decided not to go that route, but if the league had said yes, where would we be? I think we'd see less strong individual expansion teams, but a better overall league position. It would offer space for rookies to come up when they want to instead of forcing people to wait in the DSFL.It would also once again bring us to the point where lower earners can be a meaningful part of teams, since they're not going to be stuck behind max earners. It forces teams to make meaningful decisions about how they want to build their team in terms of position priority, which would be interesting to see. Overall I think we'd be in a very interesting spot as a league, and one I personally would be quite happy with. Code: Words: 235 RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - timeconsumer - 04-18-2021 Okay letts try and give ourselves an interesting one here. What if in the season 6 Ultimus game Josh Garden did not drop the game winning touchdown? Now I'm going to have to preface this PT because the fact is the game's outcome was set in stone anyway because it was a resim due to a simmer error and we were going to match the outcome anyway, but instead we're going to pretend like that wasn't the case. Philly's entire team was on a precipice at that moment, it was built heavily on the backs of high TPE inactives and there were a lot of player's burned out and ready to jump ship. If they instead won that game I think what ends up happening is Philly experiences a resurgence the following season and comes back even stronger, I don't think they end up beating the 13-1 wraiths in S7 so the championship they won would go back to the Wraiths. After that I think Philly makes a big play for S8 and S9 as well but with NOLA looming on the horizon and Oles tired of QB they start looking to rebuild for the future. At that point in S8 they trade Oles for Boss and with Oles on the Otters they decide to challenge those elite NOLA teams in the S8-S10 area and push for another championship, having missed out on their 3rd one after losing to philly. The Otters ultimately fail to unseat NOLA/BAL during those seasons and end up actually losing ground in the future with Showbiz never becoming a thing. Without that tthe Otters are struggling through S12-S14 and end up missing another Ultimus or 2 and only have 2 under their belt by the time they draft Armstrong. RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - xtitanxmvpx - 04-18-2021 My what if situation was if user Vaelynn was drafted to Philly with Amulos and myself. I think this would have really created an unstoppable dream team of draft picks for the Liberty even moreso than they currently are working with. Vaelynn is a user that really is open to playing anywhere and with the three of us together and motivating one another it would have created an incredible atmosphere of competition and banter in the locker room on top of what is already there. The Philly locker room is a place where everyone is accepted and the Gm’s Cody and Pat are incredible to work with. Not to mention the leaders that already exist on the team like JOEB, Jimi, and Negs, the Liberty have a strong base to work with. Obviously this is partially joking, but I do think the possibilities had it happened that way would have been very much felt in the years to come. Vaelynn would have came in and filled any position that the Liberty needed and he truly would have put in the work to contribute to the team as the rest of the rookie class has. Magnet, Ace, and Exiliate have all been very active and we are all leading players at our respective positions so I truly see people talking about this draft in 3-5 seasons from now. (222 words) RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - Sylphreni - 04-18-2021 Many might assume that the most notable crossroads in league history might be some form of controversy, drama, trade, free agent signing, etc… but I’m here to tell you to day that if you suggest any of those, you’re unfortunately wrong. The biggest crossroads in league history was the selection of a username by the future first overall pick of the S22 ISFL draft, iStegosaurus. What’s in a name? You might be asking yourself, well I’ll tell you…. A lot. Safe to say that during his time in the league, Steg has ascended to some of the loftiest goals within the league, ranging from DSFL GM, Austin basement dealer, and even now Head Office Whipping Boy. Now I ask you would he have made such a meteoric rise through the league ranks with a weaker name? iStegosaurus gives off a certain feeling of strength and might, however had he chosen a distinctly different name, say…. iCompsognathus? While some may argue iComp is a fitting name for the patron saint of offensive line, I would suggest with their much smaller frames and more friendly facades the the Compsognathus would have set Steg up for a much different league experience then the one he has endured thus far. Given all of stegs contributions to the league, an incredibly important crossroads for the league at large. RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - SwankyPants31 - 04-18-2021 In my opinion, the biggest “what if” scenario that involves me personally is my draft position during the season 22 ISFL draft. I’m not one to complain about where I was drafted, and in fact took on my late position as a challenge to try and prove I was a steal. It still crosses my mind to wonder about what would have happened if I were taken earlier though. To put it in perspective, I was the 7th RB taken in the draft class and fell to the 7th round. Flash forward to today, and according to the tracker I am currently the 3rd highest TPE RB in that draft class. The running backs taken before me were White Goodman, Kichwa Jones, Tatsu Nakamura, Acura Skyline, Julio Tirtawidjaja, and Jamar Lackson. Jackson and Nakamura are the two ahead of me, and in all fairness Goodman (now Kane-Maikai) is ahead of me as well, but playing a different position. Of those remaining, Jones, Tirtawidjaja, and Skyline have all gone inactive in the meantime, capping between 550 and 950 TPE. While I’m proud of landing in Colorado and would prefer to finish my career there, I have to wonder how things would have worked out differently for both my own player and those teams had I been drafted there instead of the user who ended up going IA. Austin especially is one I think about often, given that Jones was the first to fall off and set them back a couple seasons before they found Kya. |
