(S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - RussDrivesTheBus - 05-23-2020 Austin is going to win the Ultimus, and you shouldn’t be surprised. I don’t think it will come without consequence, however. I want to start by saying, they should not personally be punished for exploiting the system. But, I do think something needs to be done about the 79 Speed Quarterback issue. It only makes sense that TC and Steg’s giant brains had a hand in finding this broken combo, and boy, did he find a gold mine. Although, it must be recognized that Franklin Armstrong was where the idea came from. He stopped adding to his speed once it hit 79, so it’s entirely possible he is the originator. After 6 weeks, the Copperheads were 1-4-1. Barely any chance of even sniffing a playoff spot. Then, the fire nation attacked. Someone in the AUS testing room came bursting through the door with an insane idea. Quarterback. Game Manager archetype. 79 Speed. The results now speak volumes. They have not lost since they had Cole adjust to this. Seven wins in a row saw them swim right past the surging SaberCats and take the 2nd seed in the conference in the final week of the year. Then, in their first playoff matchup, they slipped past the Secondline with a late score to take the lead in the fourth. The kind of impact this combo has on win percentage is problematic, not because it’s being exploited, but because it over-centralizes the future of Quarterback builds. Why would you choose to be a different archetype if it’s actively hurting your chance of success? The league should probably look into this, because it’s a game changing combo that will over centralize the league and lead to less variety, which I think is the beauty of a league like this. (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - KoltClassic - 05-23-2020 As I’m a bit late to the game in writing this PT, it is a bit easier to make a good guess as to who is going to be competing for the Ultimus championship. Sadly, my Sabercats will not be making a run at the trophy given that we were knocked out of a playoff berth in the last week of the season after a truly remarkable season ( and by far my favorite season in the league to date ). Based on the teams that are currently still in contention for the championship, my dark horse pick as the team to hoist the trophy is none other than the Yellowknife Wraiths. While TPE-wise this might not be a bold pick with the Wraiths being the leaders in TPE by around 500 points, Yellowknife’s history in the Ultimus championship makes this choice a risky one. The last four times that the Wraiths have been to the big game they have lost. This is quite an impressive streak, but I think that this is finally the year that the Wraiths can bring it home. With veterans like Nate Swift and Cooter Biggsby leading their offense, and star players in Nero Alexander, Marvin Leonard, and Maurice Virtanen on the other side of the ball, I think Yellowknife has all of the pieces they need to finally ring home a championship that has been eluding them for so long. (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - thevoicelesscreator - 05-23-2020 It’s PLAYOFF TIMES BABY. Time for big games, big hits, and big wins! It’s Mo’s first professional playoffs, after just missing with the Grey Ducks in the DSFL, so it’s time to prove that he has what it takes to get it done. This year the Yeti are geared to go all the way. With their tradition rival, the Baltimore Hawks, no longer in contention, the Yeti has a matchup with the newly formed Sarasota Sailfish. While impressive this season for what they’ve been able to do with limited resources, the Sailfish has overperformed, and it’s time for the Yeti to #SquishTheFish and show them how a veteran team does things. After that is a clandestined matchup with the Yellowknife Wraiths. It is unfortunate that the Yeti were unable to secure the top seed this season, and as a result, they face the Wraiths and on unfriendly grounds. This will be Mo’s second trip home to Canada this season, and the third time playing his childhood favourite team growing up. However, there is nothing personal about this matchup for him. This is just business. It’s time to go #GhostBusting Should the Yeti come out on top of the NSFC, they will make their first Ultimus in a very long time. Their opponents are not slumps, and will likely be the Orange County Otters (no offense to Austin, the Otters are just a whole new level of talent). The Otters blew out the Yeti the last time the two met in Orange County, and now, when it matters most, it’s time for vengeance. It time for the world to hear our #YetiNoises! (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - hihihi_62 - 05-23-2020 New year, very similar storyline for me and my Wraith Teammates. We ended the season in impressive fashion steamrolling the majority of the league en route to the seasons best record. We are a team of proven vets that just want to win and win bad, so because of that I think THIS is our year. We have tasted the bitter taste of defeat far too many times in the past several seasons to let this one get away from us. I think it'll be a dogfight but we will finally add an Ultimus to our resumes. Personally I think I will have a huge part in the championship run. Cornerbacks are key in shutting down opposing air attacks and without bragging too much I'm one of the best in the league and always seem to come up big come playoff time. I had one of my best statistical regular seasons and am very excited to see what kind of numbers I can put up when the lights are shinning their brightest. My prediction is yet another Orange County v Yellowknife showdown that comes down to the wire with me, Mervin Leonard, intercepting the great Franklin Armstrong to seal our Ultimus dreams. (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - AlexF - 05-23-2020 PBE (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - Booger - 05-23-2020 As a proud member of the first ever Sarasota Sailfish team, I’d like to believe that we will make an incredible run in the playoffs in spite of our mediocre 6-7 record. However, as I’m quite the procrastinator and am writing this after the first batch of wild card games, I know that things didn’t go as planned. We ended up losing 36-14 (iirc) which is disappointing but it was a bittersweet experience knowing how much we accomplished this season as a brand new expansion team. If I had to pick a team I think will end up winning the Ultimus, I would have to say the Wraiths are my choice. Even though they’ve lost the Ultimus the last three seasons, they had a really great season this year and I have a feeling this is the year they end up pulling through and finishing the job. In the other conference, there were quite a few good teams this season, with the Otters leading the pack, so I expect the Wraiths will have some competition for the top spot. Overall, I’m proud of what we able to accomplish as a team this year, and I know that we’ll come back stronger and make an even greater run next season. (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - KillKillKill - 05-23-2020 But of course, who else would I see on top rather than my Copperheads? We were slow playing the league this season, lulling everyone to sleep in the beginning. What is more like a snake than to lie in wait and sneak up on an unsuspecting league? We are built from a different stock here in Austin and the sooner that everyone else realizes that and just lies down and rolls out of the way, the better it will be for all of us. We won't have our time wasted and the rest of you can get an early jump on the off season and next year. It is a foregone conclusion that Austin will again, hoist the Ultimus trophy high in the air for a second time. We are not going to come up short this year and everyone else is just an afterthought. Pack it up NSFL, Copperheads are taking it home again. I am not sure there is all that much in the way of competition ahead of us. Ironically enough, our first victims are the defending champions. Short reign in my book, but if you get the crown, you have to defend it. I am sure they won't be the last former champion we leave in our wake either. Code: 214 words (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - MrStennett - 05-23-2020 So here it is sports fans: the Orange County Otters are going to win their 100th Ultimus. What? There haven't even been that many? Well, they might as well have 100. I mean, Thorian Skarsgard was apart of four Otter Ultimus wins, including the three-peat run of seasons seventeen, eighteen and nineteen. No matter which number it is in the history of the team, the Otters are definitely the team taking the trophy home this season. This team is absolutely stacked on both sides of the ball. The offense boasts three time league MVP and future Hall of Fame shoe-in, Franklin Armstrong at quarterback, standout wide receiver Hugh Mongo, and rookie sensation tight end Jeffery Phillips. On the defensive side of the ball, this team is a brick wall, or a Fanta curtain one might say. The defensive line features not on the return of Thor, but also three young stars in the making, Rapid Eagle, Big Edd, and Bobby Boucher. The D is anchored in the center by the defensive quarterback and long-time Otter, linebacker Lanzer Grievous, but the secondary is where this team really shines. The "No Fly Zone" features corners Abernathy, Lattimer, and Dream, along with safeties Vegeta and Biggums. Whichever NSFC team draws the unenviable task of going up against the Otters (probably Yellowknife), better just not show up. Code: 223 words (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - LimJahey - 05-23-2020 Cooter Bigsby, Franklin Armstrong, the two MVP runners for this year in the NSFL, have taken both of their teams to the number one seed. The Wraiths were a wrecking ball, one of the best passing offenses in the league, with a defense that collected more sacks than Scrooge McDuck. The Orange County Otters are the most storied franchise in NSFL history. No team has anywhere close to the postseason success that the Otters have. 8 Ultimus championships and only one loss, it is a two decade long dynasty that is still going strong as more teams and new strategies arrive. I'm predicting that the Wraiths and Otters are making it to the Ultimus game, both teams were damn near unstoppable, and were even more unstoppable when they had the home field. I believe that these teams were destined to meet for the fifth time. The Otters have kept the Wraiths winless against them in the Ultimus, going 4-0 against the Wraiths, but this Wraiths team has been dominating opponents, and is looking primed to strike and finally beat the Otters in the big game. Will the Wraiths finally get that monkey off their back, and bring home another title? Or will it be the same old song and dance with the Otters trouncing them again? I believe that the Otters just have way too much experience in this situation, and should be able to bring back title number nine. Code: 240 words (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - Big Edd - 05-23-2020 Last year, the Dallas Birddogs came so close, yet so far to making the playoffs. It was quite a demoralizing moment. Although, this season is very much different. I have gotten my first taste of the playoff atmosphere and boy is it exciting and exhilarating. This will be my very first playoff game and I look forward to balling out on route to winning the Ultimus. The teams that I see coming out of the wild card rounds is probably the Yeti and Austin. Colorado has been nothing short of diminant this season and Austin is playing at home. I thiink we all know how much of a factor that home field advantage can be. They will be playing the Wraiths and the Otters whom both have received a bye for their excellent records. Now, this is where it gets interesting, the conference championships. I assume that the Wraiths will just barely overcome the Yeti offense lead by McDUmmy. On the other hand, I know for a fact that Armstrong and the Orange County Otters will stomp all over the brown sneks of Austin. As for the final round, the championship, the holy graile. THe Wraiths and the Otters have eyt to play each other all season. This will mark the very first time that they will meet. It will for sure be an exciting one, but the Otters are going to win trophy numba 9. |
