(S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Vorshayla - 07-03-2020 My expansion team would be the Fargo Foxhounds. I feel like the people of Fargo deserve a professional sports team and what better way to introduce the good people of Fargo to sports than with an NSFL franchise. As for the team name, why not Foxhounds? They're cute and are natural ball hawks just like how I would draft my team with defense first. Pick the best studs on defense and just let the offense do whatever while the defensive side secures the wins for our inaugural season. Will need a strong coach to guide us through the first few years as we stockpile picks and draft our cornerstone players. But I think the people of Fargo will embrace a professional football team and even tolerate a few losing seasons. Afterall, nothing great comes right away. The people of Fargo seem very bland and hard working folks, so they'll appreciate a football team to cheer for when they come home from whatever it is they do in Fargo and win or lose, they'll still cheer for their hometown team, because that's the American thing to do. The motto of the Fargo Foxhounds will be. "Hey, at least we have a team now" Plus it'll add to the coffers of the town as well, so it's really win win if Fargo gets a team in the near future (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - BWIII - 07-03-2020 Man I'd actually love to be in charge of an expansion team as I've GMd in the past and I love it, but needed to take a break, but would be able to jump back in and have a good foundation to start from. For my location, for those that know me this wouldn't be much of a surprise, but I'd obviously choose Seattle (or if I'm trying to pick an obscure place like some people like then I'd pick another city, still in Washington though). I really don't know what I'd choose for the mascot/name of the team though. Kraken I've liked as a possibility, but at the same time that's used a ton so would probably choose to go for something less used, but still awesome. The reason though I'd love to do this and why I think any team I would be at the helm of would be successful is because I've spent more time in this game than just about anybody in this league and have come to know its nuances and I've proven I can manipulate it even when I shouldn't be able to be. I would, however, require the right kind of partner to man the helm, something I feel was my only real set back the last go around. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - UpperNet - 07-03-2020 If I got the chance to make a expansion team, the location I would pick would be venice, California. I know there's already a team in california but I think having a Team near the beach would be huge tourist attraction! Plus venice is just colorful in general, besides the beaches and the sunny, friendly weather there's some unique shops, colorful murals and lots of street performers! We just can't miss having a expansion team in venice California, there's just no better location for this. The team name would be of course the venice MeatHeads, why you may ask? 54 years ago a beautiful man named Joe Gold set out on a mission, a mission to start the most beautiful, hardcore Gym. That gym now nearly has 700 worldwide locations and such a successful gym started in our very own venice, California. Its history and we need to honor that history by naming the team the "Venice Meathead" (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - StamkosFan - 07-03-2020 I think it would be neat to see a franchise take on an homage to Nordic history other than the generic “Vikings”. It would be lovely to have branding that spiced things up and was unique, to have a franchise that dared to separate itself, to be bold and take risks. And it would also be great to have a unique location; and since sim league teams tend to avoid Ohio for some reason, despite its importance in the Midwestern US, I think placing a team there would both avoid the pitfall of going somewhere way too obscure. Any of the biggest cities in Ohio are likely familiar to anyone with minimal knowledge of US city centers or real life sports franchises. So placing the team in Columbus, the Ohioan capital and most populous city in the state, would be perfect. Now for the name; a Nordic theme would be interesting, and likely some sort of Nordic monster would be the most suitable for the purposes of creating a logo as well as a name that has meaning. While Kraken is an option, I would like the team to be a bit bolder, to go where no one has gone before. So my choice would be to name the team the Draugr (Nordic undead); they could have all the cool zombie-themed branding without calling themselves something as dull and mainstream as the Zombies. I think the Columbus Draugr would be an apt fit for the NSFL. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Jiggly_333 - 07-04-2020 Look, we've been over this many times. If you give me an expansion team, I'll just put it in Chicago and call it a day. Literally, I'll just stop doing any work at that point and the team will just collapse around me while I'm fucking off having a mental breakdown or a depressive episode cause that's what happens apparently every time I'm in charge of a team. Let's not put this one in Chicago. There's already a quality Chicago team in the NSFL, at least in terms of branding. I know because I helped with it. I would suggest another midwest team, but I feel like that's also way too normal of a Jiggly answer. And obviously, my next choice would be Japan; but that's way too weeb-y of an answer. So how about an idea I had before the Chicago Blues. Yeah, we're going way back. Back when the original plan for the DSFL was to have it be in Europe. One of the first things I do is look at the list of Chicago's "Sister Cities" and it's got some solid ones like Paris, Milan, Mexico City, Moscow, and Athens. But when it comes to England, we didn't get London. We didn't get Liverpool. Not even Manchester. We got fucking Birmingham, a city that most Americans only think of as the city in Alabama. It's not a bad city by any means, but I feel like it's one of those places that you don't even think about unless you live in England. So I want an NSFL team there. So my idea is very similar to that of the concept I ended up with in the DSFL: Birmingham Steel So, it has nothing to do with the steel industry, although Birmingham apparently had a historic relationship to the gunsmithing industry. It actually comes from the fact that some of the most important artists in heavy metal came out of Birmingham. Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Led Zeppelin all came from Birmingham. It's a small thing. It's tough to always name a team after something that truly connects to a city if you don't live in it, but I think that's good enough for government work. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - AL_GRINGO - 07-04-2020 PBE Welfare (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - hihihi_62 - 07-04-2020 I spent the better half of this week trying to come up with an awesome new location for an expansion NSFL team and after serious consideration I have come up with... well nothing... damnit. What I did come up with is that I believe an expansion team should be awarded to a Canadian city to form a rivalry with the Yellowknife Wraiths. Lets consider a couple of options and then pick the best one! Vancouver is a beautiful city (one of Canada's largest) nestled along the Pacific Coast. Vancouver makes a very logical choice for a real team but for the fun of the sim league I want something a little less realistic. How about another Northern team in say Whitehorse or Iqualiut? Though both of these could be fun and would make a very realistic rival to Yellowknife I like the idea of Yellowknife being "THE Team of the North". Excluding the North and major cities I think we should consider somewhere in the middle of Canada...AhA! I have the perfect spot. Lloydminster. You've probably never heard of this small town, so why is it the perfect choice? Well get this...half of the town is in Saskatchewan and the other half is in Alberta! On one side the legal drinking age is 19 and the other 18. I say we build a stadium right down the middle and make it the official team of two different provinces! Now that's an original idea. As far as a name is concerned? Well I think we put it to a vote and let the people pick! (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - MobiausGrander - 07-04-2020 If I was given the opportunity to create an expansion franchise, I would settle the franchise in my home state of Florida and name the franchise: the Florida Scorchers! I picked the name Scorchers because it serves a few references. The first reference is to directly reference the fact that Florida generally is warm year around (to the point where some may say too warm). The second reference is the fact that to scorch is to burn greatly; I wanted to invoke the feeling that whenever you play against my new franchise, you're going to get "burned" and lose badly no matter the time and place! I picked Florida as my place for my potential relocation franchise because I believe it would present me with a lot of opportunities in the sports world. What I mean by that is, like other pro sports leagues, Florida is overall a large market with a multitude of sports fans; I believe I can be able to tap into that, albeit highly, competitive market and be able to establish a great team that will endure through the ages due to the favorable location, lack of a state income tax, and recreational activities that help athletes get through the season which in the grand scheme will help attract free agents and generate the revenue needed to support the team! (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - DarknessRising - 07-04-2020 With the expansion into the pacific through the Honolulu Hahalua, it opens up the door to enter into the biggest population group around the world, Asia. Needing to be based in a country that is safe, American-friendly and a sporting nation, whilst also factoring in time zone difficulties, the only possible answer is Japan. As for the city, whilst many stadiums are for Baseball, a demonstration of their interest in sports popular in America, with Tokyo hosting the Olympics, it becomes a great, modern stadium that a team could take over. This is why the new expansion team should be based in Tokyo, named the Tokyo Tyrants. With A rich history of fighting and striving to be the best, the Tokyo Tyrants look to jump straight into success with strict training and discipline, building a roster and culture on being highly intelligent, extremely hard working and dedicated to honing their craft. With their name sake being Tyrants, the team from Tokyo will be oppressive, not allowing anyone else to grasp victory against them and cruelly make this league their own. The team colours will be predominantly black, with a dark purple as the secondary colour, representing the royalty of this team reflected in their name sake. A team in Asia needs to happen, and what better place to put them in than the world’s most populous city, with a bad boy vibe that plays right into their name and branding. Just like the Japanese, the team will be efficient, in skill, management and finances and will bring the NSFL to a much larger audience, elevating it closer to the world stage. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Bruins10 - 07-04-2020 Being a canadian, and whether you believe it or not having a large amount of football fans in Canada, I would bring a team to the North as they call it. Where? I am not too sure, it would have to be more of a logistics move. I live in Quebec so I would always root for bringing a team to Montreal and battling it out with a rival right away would be New Orleans as we share a fleur de Lis in our flags. But, the smart move would be bringing them to Vancouver and calling them the Vancouver Lumberjacks. I think it would be an easy franchise to get some branding for and it also has a "football name" attached to it. It is pretty close to Yellowknife aswell so the travelling would make it doable in the NSFL. Vancouver would be placed in the same division as Yellowknife, just because of logistics and it makes sense with the teams that are already in the conference. Colorado and Chicago are relatively close and Philadelphia and Baltimore are a little east of Vancouver but at the same time, they are not as south as the teams in the ASFC (I am not that good at geography off the top of my head so if I made a mistake, please forgive me). The Vancouver Lumberjacks I think would make for a very good team for Canadians to build around on the site. Not too sure if canadian members are at a high right now in the NSFL but I think they would be a loyal franchise for people staying true to the maple leaf and being a canuck. |
