Respectfully, that doesn't address my point at all. Josh Sitton didn't end up a Bear because the Packers "became bad" but because the Packers couldn't afford to keep him. If 20 blue-chip players are on one team and keep taking less than what they'd get on the free market, there's no way that teams lacking in talent get better. Especially considering the fact that prized rookies are able to hold-out or dictate that they'll only play for certain team.

@kckolbe Your point about a minor TPE bonus is very well taken and I think it's a great idea, it would incentivize player's to make what they're worth and create a meaningful decision between having a high salary and being on a winning team.

So it sounds like we do not need a union to boost players but rather a committee to break up monopoly teams?

btw, im against this, we're looking for problems that haven't happened yet.

Games of strategy are about anticipating situations. That's why we call you "Checkers." Tongue

It seems like a good way to make the cap useful would be to make it so your contract dollars are something else. Maybe make it so there's special equipment you can only buy with your contract money, and you can't afford it all in a season without a Bercovici like contract?

Then it gets rid of a lot of the team friendly deals stuff and makes it so the best players who max their TPE every week have a reason to negotiate a big contract.

However:

People will get big contracts, some people maintain high activity levels but as time goes on many veterans wont want to write as much as they used to and will go for paydays.

PS - I dont see expansion happening again for a WHILE.

This may lead to the same situation, I'm not sure.

I really don't think contract values are an issue. Equipment is expensive as fuck and not everyone is a media king.

I do think these minimum contracts will need to be pumped up significantly, especially in Tier 3 and beyond:

Quote:- A player’s minimum contract amount is determined by their TPE total upon signing, as follows:
Tier 6 (1000+ TPE) - $5,000,000
Tier 5 (800+ TPE) - $4,000,000
Tier 4 (600+ TPE) - $3,000,000
Tier 3 (400+TPE) - $2,000,000
Tier 2 (200+ TPE) - $1,000,000
Tier 1 (<200 TPE) - $500,000

Keep the salary cap stagnant or maybe have slight increases. This would prevent teams from hoarding 20 superstars, a problem that I think is likely to occur. This will lead to more roster turnover and competitive balance.

I know in the very beginning of the league there was a talk about making contracts shift up automatically when players hit TPE floors, which later became the vet minimum rule (or at least, that was how it was interpreted when I was signing my contract). I kinda liked that one.

So when you hit 200 TPE, your contract has to be adjusted upwards so you are earning at least $1m, even if you previously were not. It would take a little bit of foresight from GMs, but it's not like someone becomes a 200 TPE guy out of nowhere - you can see it developing from a bit of a distance.

For what it's worth I'd also increase the amount of pay required per TPE bracket.

I am preparing for the future. Everyone here is talking like everyone is going to take minimum contracts but it's simply not true.

Anyone that has been around a sim league for a couple years knows that superstar players media activity doesn't always stay high. People still love the league, love their players, and love the sim community, but they get tired of writing or making grafx or whatever they did to earn money. You will see this happen, you will see some people take minimum deals but you will see plenty of people getting paid.

ahhh okay that makes sense.
