RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - zaynzk - 02-05-2021 This new sim has been a weird transition. On the bright side the games seem to be less random and sim lucky but on the other hand, lower TPE players seem to be punished harder than they were before, as it seems like a team like baltimore might never win a game this season and teams like chicago might not lose a single game. However it is a lot better with game play wise while it does not seem to be the best viewing experience with the lack of text; however it was better for other viewing stuff like being able to see every play. In all its something that that would be a solid thing for the long term future of the league however it will take a long time to get used to this change as it is something that is not familiar but is extremly necessary for the long term future of the league so hopefully after all the kinks work out with running back and other offensive positions cause then it will be an awesome new sim. either way it will be a long road to a new and perfect world and im happy to be a GM in this league with this new sim RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - AJay887 - 02-05-2021 Affiliate PT from PBE RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - hotdog - 02-05-2021 My immediate reaction when seeing the new sim was "wtf this looks like shit, impossible to follow." My second though was "hmm i guess that's what i thought about the old sim and I eventually got used to it. So that'll probably happen with this too." To be honest, I think the adjustment period for this new sim is even shorter, as I'm already starting to get used to it and the way it looks. It's still a little difficult to follow the specifics of a play (e.g., who caught it, who made the tackle) but i'll get used to it. My one complaint would be it's much more difficult to follow accrued stats during the game. They appear only in the bottom corners and only for a second at a time, and it seemingly switches which team is on which side all the time, and it's not a full line. One more smaller complaint is there's a huge pause after each sack lol. I do definitely like the new field designs, and I think it's really cool that they're individualizable and customizable. I haven't seen enough enough times to know which is my favorite but i like that they're all different - gives each game a unique feel. The pace of the new sim is also slower than the old one - is it true or just my illusion? This season is my first season to be in ISFL, so I was expecting being crashed by the other teams and players. However, I did not expect the openings to be SO HARD. Hawks has not won even one game so far, and based on the points we got, I could not see any hope when we can expect the first win. Well, I guess that building a great team is indeed very difficult. Since I have never taken on the role of a team manager, I am not in a position to complain at all. Based on data, Hawks has very bad offense and very bad defense. We got only 90 points in the past five games and lost 197, meaning that on average, each game is about 18:40 loss. So I guess we deserve to rank the last one in the whole ISFL. I hope Hawks can get the first win soon. But when? Words: 200 RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - Troen - 02-05-2021 prompt Wrote:Season 27 is off to a busy start with the new sim. Write 200 words about your first impressions of the games you've seen so far in the new sim. How's your player/team doing? Are you enjoying the streams? Do you have a favorite home field design? The updated sim presentation is definitely doing a much better job at conveying the course of the play as it goes along with passes actually showing the movement of the ball and punts/turnovers showing the colored bars for where the ball ends up (though I think the delay on sacks seems weird and I think penalties should be more clear). That being said, since the streams have gone from 30ish minutes to like an hour and a half, I'm finding myself much more inclined to wait until 2 afters after the stream and then just watch my team's game. Not sure if that's a net better or worse thing, but I have noticed it. The overall quality of watching, though, I think still has a ways to go before it's great. I wonder if they're aiming to eventually go for the 'almost watching a TV broadcast' version where player movements make sense and there are 3d models so passes getting deflected or not could be seen. Clearly that would be way more work than dots, and it might still have its own madden-style collection of visual gaffes, but we'll see. I've actually been tempted to do slow-motion analysis of games before, showing how plays work out and stuff, but I don't think the current state of the sim is something that would work well with that idea. On a smaller note, the index now having individual player pages is really a nice feature to have, though I'm unhappy that the records information was apparently not converted over from the saves. Maybe I'm spoiled from my time in PBE - that seems to do a great job of keeping league history between sim updates (though to be fair I don't know if that holds for 5 years of changes). And best field is clearly the Silverbacks with their great font selection. RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - mango8154 - 02-06-2021 As I am a rookie I did not have much experience with the older sim but from what I saw at the tail end of the old sim compared to the start of the new sim is that there has been a massive improvement, it is much more visually appealing and it makes for a better watching experience, I do wish it was a tad slower so I can have more time to process plays however I understand that there is a time frame the games must be completed in and we can’t ask the simmers for to much of their time. My team and player have been, let's say awful, it has not been a good year. We’ve limped out with an 0-4 record and my player isn't setting the league alight with only 9 tickles, 1for loss and a fumble recovery. However there are some positives and hopefully we can turn this form around. The viewing experience has been really fun and I greatly enjoy watching our games with the team. Minnesota’s field is pretty good looking however my favorite is probably London's as it just looks clean to me, it’s simple however I quite like that. Overall the new sim experience has been great and I can’t wait for more games. Spencer, ISFL player, and Adam C. Spencer, real person. As a player, I'm currently tied for 2nd in the league in touchdowns and playing a big part of an emerging Nola offense. Going through the middle of my 3rd season, I'm at a pretty hefty TPE pace for me personally. And the team is really showing how great we are everywhere except Nola. I'll hit 700 very shortly and ready to work on a second contract. Then we get to me personally where I'm having a blast, making people happy in streams, and putting together my own expansion application with a super secret partner. I happen to think we're going to make an amazing team. And I believe we'll create a fun and viable team. I've enjoyed trying to work on videos again, as well as learning editing and trying to improve my abilities there (with further plans as I go along). And I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the new sim roll out and the league try to sort of find their grips on what to enjoy, what to complain about, and what to meme. The league's running game briefly took a tremendous front seat as people reacted to early results and saw things they'd never seen before. Like runners going for more than 8 yards more than once per season. It was a pretty fun few days as people lost their minds over it and it was just as enjoyable to watch it completely die off just as quickly. So far, s27 has been a lot of fun. |
