RE: (S28) PT 4 - Back to School - 209tacos - 04-25-2021 WHAT!? Who has time to teach or coach these high school fools? Tex Wrecks doesn't. And he won't! I am not going to take time out of my horrendously busy schedule to deal with dumb high school kids who won't listen to anything I say and will talk back with their dumb me mes. I have to focus on my skillz for the in International whatever the S stands for Football League. I can't believe they would even ask me after the way I left that school on my last day there - on fire. I do feel bad for that poor lunch lady, she didn't deserve that. The chicken was totally cooked correctly and she wasn't the real reason the fire started. And it wasn't really my fault. Although I was involved we didn't start the fire. But the fire was started and we can't go back and change what had happened. but still f that school. They suck. They always did at that school. And I am never going back there. Nothing they could do to get back to go back to that terrible, god-awful campus where all my hopes and dreams were crushed by potentially undercooked chicken. Anyways, lets move on. RE: (S28) PT 4 - Back to School - Alucas - 04-25-2021 The phone rings, it is the principal from Generic High.. a shock that takes me a second to come to terms with why the principal is calling me, I can't have done anything wrong... I don't even go there anymore. After a brief conversation he explains the situation that our head coach of the football team resigned and they have a game in two days and want me to step in the interim. I of course accept and get planning on how I will lead the team to victory. It is a tough job being a coach, I realise my hours on Madden don't prepare me for the real deal and I can't run slants on offense all day and win. Luckily the players are all pulling together under my tutelege to try and win. I inspire them with my presence... just having a pro football player around makes them all want to win more. My gameplan is heavily defensive as that is what I do best, I explain a couple of tips and tricks to beat blocks and hope for the best. The game itself is close and we come out winners on a late blocked field goal thanks to our terrific defense. Although I could use the job as a permanent source of income because I am poor, I turn down the role as I need to focus on my career and becoming the best linebacker I can. Okay, here goes. The Portland Aviators have struggled this season, everyone knows that. It played into HC Smith's resignation, and, while initially leery of coaching a team, Smyth decides to anyways. When he arrived at his old high school, Smyth immediately saw that the team was highly unorganized, having almost next to no equipment, training gear, or even proper uniforms. When asking the team, they said the school wanted to focus more on education than athletics, though most speculated it was because the principal hates football. So, Smyth went home that night, and designed a kickass uniform that he made himself, and used his money from the DSFL to buy equipment, hired a professional trainer, and went above and beyond. That week, at the homecoming game between the Aviators and their cross-town rivals, the Seabiscuits, the Aviators won a resounding victory in overtime, with a 23-17 victory, their first homecoming victory in seven years. Smyth was asked to stay on and coach the team, but wanted to focus on his career. The team understood, them wanting to play in the ISFL someday too, and Smyth promised that, once he retired, he would come back and coach the team. Coach Jay was gettin’ pretty old by now, I mean he had been the head coach for our football team for about 25 years by the time I ever stepped foot onto the team. He was old but his strength and willpower from when he used to play the game always showed. Behind this strength though was a gentle and caring man, who cared more about his players than anything. If I was going to come in and coach even just one game, I’d have a lot to live up to. Regardless, I agreed to coach their opening game of the year. I visited the school to see what I had to work with. The varsity team had a good mix of size and speed, and a few kids stood out in particular for their ability. Our QB however, was a true freshman starting on varsity. I knew instantly that the outcome of this first game would depend on his nerves. Throughout the week of practice I was there for, I wanted to try something interesting for my way of coaching. So I personally lined up on the defense for certain practice drills (wearing 20lb ankle weights for a handicap). I wanted to teach the DB’s first hand the techniques that I used to quickly accelerate, or locate the ball. And show them what to look for in a QB’s movements, that might give you some insight on where he’s about to throw the ball. During these practices too, I talked with our QB, and told him these same clues that I look for, that way he could start practicing avoiding making those subconscious signals. While we only had a week of practice together, the group’s dynamics were already starting to evolve. As we took the field for week 1 of the season, I knew that these kids were ready to rock. Our DB’s played lights out, putting their new skills to good use, they were able to read the opposing QB and make quick breaks on the football. We had 5 INT’s that first game. And on offense, our QB played pretty well too, even though he did throw a pick of his own on our first possession. He immediately knew his mistake though and corrected well for the following drives. For my first game ever coached, I think I did well to help the team reach their 40-24 victory. He informed him that the coach was being fired and they were looking for a interimistic replacement for a game or two as he called it. Heinrich wasn't sure how to decide, but as the season was still weeks away he decided to give it a try. It was quite a surprise to hear of the decision of letting the coach go, since the team was pretty successful over the last seasons and he was a veteran and highly respected around the country. When Heinrich arrived at the school there was already the DC waiting for him. There was a training session scheduled for that afternoon, the game was to be played on the next day. Heinrich didn't want to interfere in the strategy or the starting roster, but he wanted to get to know the players and get them excited and ready for the game. The gameday arrived and Heinrich was headed to the locker room. He was well prepared and had his pre game speech ready. He was really proud of it. He worked his ass of to make sure everybody was fired up and hot going out on the field. As he entered the locker room, he stood still in shock at what he had to see. The DC had already started his "pre game speech". He was showing embarrassing pictures and clips with bloopers from Heinrich Kackpoos tenure at the school. The players were on their knees laughing and when they saw him entering the room, they couldn't hold themself any more and burst out in huge laughter. That was the moment Heinrich decided to leave and then never ever try to coach a team again in his life. Even if he is locked into a deep playoff run with Berlin, he would never reject his hometown. He took a plane and went all the way to Glenville, GA to coach his alma mater, even if it was for a single game. His first words to his players were simple. "Just enjoy the game, and stay focused. Do not try to force things and exploit the openings you can find. And most importantly, trust your brothers. Everyone sitting in this locker room is part of the family." The team did just that. Come gameday, everyone was hyped. the training sessions had been magnificent and everyone was confident in themselves, and their teammates. The game was tough. They were playing the best school in the state. The game was a shootout. Not because of bad defences, but because of amazing offensive playcalling and execution from both coaching staffs. The teams were trading touchdowns, up until late in the 4th. 2:06 on the clock. Game tied at 49. Glenville High on defence. 3rd and goal from the 1-yd line. Skiuuup calls a 11-man blitz. The chaos allows the opposing QB to pass the ball for an easy TD. Or so he thought. He gets strip sacked, Glenville High has the ball, inside the two minute warning. The two minute drill from Glenville High was pinpoint accurate and as the clocks hit zero, a rushing touchdown was scored. Glenville got the win, Skiuuup was offered a full time job that he rejected, at least for the moment, to focus on his playing career. |
