RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - huck24 - 04-03-2021 My draft experience was great, well it was great in hindsight, but I was a nervous wreck coming up to it. I had some great conversations with a few scouts and had a few ideas where I might end up. But a few days before the draft, I was chatting with the Tijuana players and mentioned there were a few teams I hadn’t heard from yet. One of those teams being New Orleans. Not knowing anything about the ISFL teams I had no idea how many connections there were between the Luchadores and the Second Line. I immediately got a DM from a member of NOLA, explaining that there was no real need to scout my player too much because they’ve been scouting me since day one! NOLA had a pretty high pick, so I wasn’t totally confident that I would be heading there until it happened and was super pumped when it happened. I was going to start my ISFL career with some of my DSFL teammates, alum, GM and the guy who helped my sign up for the league. Now in my second season with the team, I really couldn’t imagine being anywhere else, I’m excited for the future in New Orleans and can’t wait to help bring home some Ultimus championships along the way! Big thanks to the New Orleans front office for bringing me in. RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - RussDrivesTheBus - 04-03-2021 S22 Round 3 Pick 5 – San Jose Sabercats Over an entire year ago, I got drafted to San Jose in the 3rd round. That’s where I had been predicted to go by almost all of the media articles that came out. Some had me lower, some higher. I felt pretty decent about a 3rd round valuation, especially in a draft with almost 300 players! There were a handful of Linebackers that had more TPE than I did, so it made sense. In the analysis I had done, it seemed like three teams had a pretty solid need for Linebacker and maybe a couple could have need for two. So, I felt like low 2nd high 3rd was pretty reasonable. My scouting had been pretty decent. I heard from all but 3 or 4 teams. Now, I need to correct a narrative mistake I have perpetuated throughout most of my draft media. San Jose did scout me. @AW13 not only scouted me, but also pushed in the Ware Room for the GMs to pull the trigger on me. And truly, I can’t thank him enough. I’m really not sure what the reputation for San Jose is around the league, but the group has been incredibly fun, supportive and chill the entire time I’ve been around. @Rradum and @ckroyal92 did an incredible job building the locker room back up to be a place where we all want to hang out and encourage each other. I could not be happier with my draft experience. Winding up at 122nd overall pick of the S22 Draft, Clark was drafted by the Sarasota Sailfish early in the 11th round. Sarasota was the only team to really scout him out, so he was more than happy to join their ranks. He started as TE2 for them the following season, and never looked back. That is, until S25. Clark's most recent draft experience came with the S25 Expansion Draft. With only so many protections available, the Sarasota Sailfish were unable to protecting him from potentially being drafted away. Going into draft night, he knew that he was an undervalued player (in the league as a whole, not on his team), and that his odds of being drafted were much higher than projections and predictions in the media may have led on. At the end of the day, Clark is a football player and a competitor, and would play for whatever team he would end up with for that season. Obviously, he wanted to stay with the Sailfish. But between the two expansion teams, the New York Silverbacks seemed like the preferred choice, at least on paper. The GMs were very successful, and recently. However, fate had other plans. And with the 10th pick in the S25 Expansion Draft, Clark Boyd was selected by the Berlin Fire Salamanders, headed up by two new GMs on the ISFL scene. And truth be told, he really couldn't be happier. Playing the underdogs these past few seasons have been great, and the community that has been built up in Berlin's LR has been amazing.
