(S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - RansackTheUniverse - 05-24-2020 With the wildcard round of the S22 NSFL playoffs in the books, we now have four teams remaining in contention for the Ultimus trophy – the Yellowknife Wraiths, Colorado Yeti, Orange County Otters and Austin Copperheads. After a 22 point loss to the Yeti to open the season, the Wraiths only lost one game the rest of the season, a 2 point loss to New Orleans. The Wraiths are arguable the hottest team in the league, winning 5 straight games all by 13 points or more. Another thing the Wraiths have going for them is the recent struggles their opponent, the Yeti, have faced as of late. After starting 5-0, Colorado went 3-5 the rest of the way. On top of that, they do not have a single win against a team with a winning record since that week 1 home win over Yellowknife. It’s hard to imagine a situation where the Wraiths lose this game. In the ASFC, we should have a much more competitive championship game. The Otters looked like the best team in the league for much of the season, however late season losses to Austin and San Jose allowed the Wraiths to finish with a better record. The Copperheads took a very different path to get here, and after starting the season 1-4-1, it looked like their season was all but over given the strength of the ASFC. Instead, the Copperheads found their game and caught fire, winning their final 7 games of the season (plus their wildcard game against NOLA), and giving themselves a chance to compete for an Ultimus. This game really could go either way, as the teams split the season series, with the road team winning each game. Whoever wins this one will definitely give the Wraiths a fight, and could even find themselves favoured to win it all. At the end of the day, the Wraiths clear path to the finals makes it too hard to pick against them. I think they end their 4 season Ultimus losing streak and finally capture their second title. (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - Rise of Smitty - 05-24-2020 The DSFL seems pretty cut and dry this season with the Tijuana Luchadores dominating everyone. There is little to believe that they won't come away with the victory and hoist the championship once again. However just talking about them steamrolling the competition would be a little boring so I will throw out the darkest of dark horse teams in this year's DSFL run to the championship. Let's take a look at the only team in this playoff with a losing record, the London Royals. Why would the Royals have any chance you may ask? Well they don't have much of one when looking at the rosters and of course their record compared to the other three participants. However an underdog never has anything to lose and all it takes is one hard fought victory over the Minnesota Grey Ducks and then anything can happen in the DSFL Championship. The key to beating the Grey Ducks is slowing down their run game and winning the battle of possession. Jamar Lackson is the star player on this team at the running back position and the Royals need to throw everything they can at slowing him down. It will be a tall order but if they can hold him under 75 yards without a score then they have a shot. For the Royals it is going to take huge efforts from Eric Richards, Raiden Briggs, and Holiday to slow down Lackson. There is definitely some dark horse appeal hear and also some betting appeal for all you gamblers as the Grey Ducks, while talented elsewhere, are one dimensional most of the time with Lackson pounding the rock. Playoff time means anything can happen. Go Royals. They have the best record in the league at 11-2. They also lead the league in scoring with 406 points scored along with leading in scoring defense only allowing 196 points. What more could you ask for than the team that leads in all major categories? They have a potent passing attack led by C Bigsby who leads the league with 29 passing touchdowns. They have a monster fullback who finished the season with 268 carries for 1280 yards and 7 TDs, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. N Swift gives them one of the top receiving threats in the league, he snagged 11 TDs receiving this year. On the defensive side of the ball, their pass rush is the best in the league hands down. They recorded 50 sacks as a team this year which led the league. G Kroustis and M Virtanen were 1 and 2 respectively in sacks this season. I think this is the year we see the Wraiths take it all. As far as a dark horse team, how can you count out the defending champion New Orleans Second Line? New Orleans has the big game post season experience and their coaches will put them in a position to win. (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - CLG Rampage - 05-24-2020 Yellowknife still has some work to do if we're gonna make it to the Ultimus. There's still one more game for us to play: Colorado at home, once again. We already thumped them at home pretty convincingly, 27-10, but we lost to them on the road. So it's definitely going to be a close game and I'm not looking forward to it, being completely honest. However, we can't choose our opponent, Colorado managed to knock down Sarasota pretty convincingly, so that's how our run has to start. Despite a quiet 2 games to end my season, mostly due to Skyline getting the blessings of all the sim gods at once, I still feel like I have to be a big contributor if Yellowknife wants to make it past Colorado. Once that's done, we likely would have to play Orange County yet again and that'll be one hell of a game. Both games, I'm hoping that I can put it all out on the field. There's no reason we can't win it all this season, everything is in place. An explosive league leading offense, a shutdown defense, we have everything a championship team could need in order to get the win, finally. Hopefully we can beat the sim shenanigans and get the ring after 4 failed attempts. (216 Words) (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - loco - 05-24-2020 ![]() thats right i think the royals are going to lost 3 times in the playoffs. (S22) - PT4 - Road to Glory - SwankyPants31 - 05-24-2020 For the DSFL, I obviously see my Tijuana Luchadores coming out on top of the postseason. In multiple point tasks going back to last season I’ve toutes us as the top team, and I think now is the time we prove it. After a rough start to our season at 0-2, we’ve exploded as one of the clear top teams in the league. We currently have the highest scoring offense in the league, and our defense has allowed the third fewest points in the entire league. Of the two defenses that allowed less points than us, one did not even make the playoffs. All in all, that gives us the best offense and second best defense in the league, which puts us in an excellent position for success. On the topic of our hot offense, I think our running group will lead the way to victory. Both Richard Gilbert and Running Back have emerged as two of the top running backs in the league as part of our powerhouse offense. In fact, according to the index both members of the Tijuana backfield are the only two players in the league that are not kickers to crack the top ten in points scored for the season. On the defense side, we’ll be keeping an eye out for the league interception leader LiterallyJust A. Hexagon to make an impact and seal the games in our favor.
