RE: (S30) Offseason Point Task - CptGoosar - 07-12-2021

Turned out to be a bit longer than planned - and maybe changed a bit halfway through but its from the heart and i believe that to be more important.

So this is slightly difficult for me to write as I’ve only been part of the ISFL community for several weeks now. So unsurprisingly, I know very few of you and those I do I don’t know, I don’t know very well at all, though I’m sure that will change in the near future.  As it turns out this post is more a thank you to those that introduced me to this wonderful community and the support that I’ve been getting, and a small thank you to each and every single person here.

Anywhere, so here goes…...

So initially I found this community advertise through the Green Bay Packers subreddit – Go Packs Go. Initially I was skeptical about the whole premise of the situation with  this being basically a forum based RPG. I took a “punt” and signed up and decided to dive into the ISFL. Having never been a part of anything like this before, there was naturally a steep learning curve with regards to mechanics, time dedication and socialising.  However, this is where this amazing community starts to show their value as once of the best communities I’ve been apart off.
In real life I’ve never been one of the most socially active or aware members of society. However, I’ve always only been messaged or conversed with in the friendliest manner possible. Initially my contact with initially mainly with scout for teams, and I must say that each and every single member of the scouting teams deserves the highest level of praise. Each time I was contacted, admittedly with the standard scouting questions, however even though I knew that was their main focus, I had a sense that those were really secondary to waiting to welcome you to a smaller more focus section of the community (teams) and the ISFL in general. Through this, I really sensed the passion people could have for this whole set-up with the ISFL.
That then made me realise, quite remarkable, that the whole ISFL system is run by kind, hardworking human, yes, they may not have a face with a traditional name such as Harry, Megan or James, but names such as @NicholasTheGreat, @ WilliamLim & @katarn22 – to name but a few, are just as real than anyone who you would meet in the street on your way to the shops. Now with the world really starting to change, unfortunately helped along by the current global pandemic, be it through the BLM, the climate change drive, the right to repair movement in the UK etc, the stigma associated with “online friends” are being removed from society and for sure that is for the better.
But what being of this community has shown me, is that out there in the world there a good, kind, funny, helpful people who are always willing to help someone who they don’t know. So, sorry to have droned on a bit there, writing well thought threw prose was never a strong point of mine, in short being part of the ISFL community has again re-emphasized the human being are kind. Knowing that never fails to be put a smile upon my face .

So to each and every one of you – thank you for being kind, generous, happy etc. Long may that continue.
Ohh...... and finally - roll on the draft.

RE: (S30) Offseason Point Task - TheSparkyDee - 07-12-2021

I joined in November of last year and I knew a lot of people in the ISFL from the Simulation Hockey League. I asked one day in a SHL locker room. What is the ISFL?  And @dankoa told me and I was like, “bro this would be easy, I love football, it is my favorite sport”. I never thought I would get this involved. Before I get all into this PT I wanted to thank some people.

There is someone who I enjoy talking to about everything almost everyday and I THINK he feels the same. And is also a good HALO player and great HALO teammate. @TheCC, you have been a great dude to get to know for these 8 months of being here. I cannot thank you enough for keeping me along for the ride in Minnesota and then when you went onto to Chicago you brought me with you when you begged Bailey to draft me. And I hope I can be the best wide receiver in the history of the franchise. But back to the OLD Minnesota days, Ai_of_vanity IA now, but he was my first face of the Minny Grey Ducks I saw and we talked for a long time, it was one of the best scouting messages I have had in my one year time. Well came draft day and I did not think I would get drafted anywhere near where I got drafted. I think it was almost the second round, almost mid second round and I was in Disney World with my family watching the draft and I was watching it under the pillow so I did not wake up my kids. It was the coolest draft to be part of. Then I finally met the GM of Minnesota a few days later. Yea the GM was gone and did not talk to me and I got a ping, a dm and it was TheCC and he said welcome to Minnesota and in my mind I am like okay who is this guy… He told me that he had no idea who I was and did not draft me. It was the best thing someone told me. I got drafted by this guy who just happened to walk back and find a random wide receiver on his roster. CC you have been so much fun to get to know and do other activities other than ISFL related. Thanks CC for being a real dude and semi stellar friend.

I want to thank @dude_man… this DUDE is cool as hell. He is an awesome guy to talk to about anything, and so knowledgeable. @bex you as well have been such a huge help in showing me the ropes to streaming. @Kotasa BIG thanks for helping me out when I need a day off of streaming, or an emergency comes up. Much THANKS! Let's see who else. @Muford you stinky dude! It has been fun for the last week talking and playing games and streaming together. @"Netlandic" GREAT FREAKING DUDE HERE! GO MAKOS Smile

As someone who joined this league in S25, and being my first ever experience of this sort of thing I want to give massive particular shout out to @Tonzy. He was the scout for the Tijuana Luchadores, my DSFL team before leading to me to be drafted to join him at the Austin Copperheads. So I clearly hadn't put him off too much with our chats at least. He was so great when talking to me, checking how I was getting on, and just generally welcoming me in to the Luchadores. I am a fairly quiet and reserved player who wont talk to much in the discord and places, but he always made me feel hugely welcome, and helped motivate me to put more time in. Generally i was fairly slow on the TPE gaining at the beginning with not really doing any extras outside of Checks and Predictions, but eventually we did a joint article, he pushed for it with me and helped persuade me to write more.

Since joining the Copperheads and getting called up @Tonzy has continued to be a real help and an asset. A few others also came to be really helpful, i would give a shout to Southpaw (don't know his username here), he happens to be Tonzy's Twin but he helped me kick on in terms of getting the TPE when I had times where my work commitments were taking my attention away, he made it easy to keep up by sending prompts, and being just generally friendly and helpful.

During S29 I went on a bit of a media splurge thanks to the help of the 2 above helping me put stuff together. Big thanks to many of my teammates who tolerated me pestering for interview answers after each gameday, that meant I built up nice cash reserves.

So after 5, in game, years, I am loving my time and cant wait for many many more. So raise a glass to @Tonzy, who has helped me tremendously.

Eagle eye-
eagle eye has been my homie since way before I joined ISFL. Back months to where to started when I joined a different sim league. We didn’t hit off right away but after we talked one time it kinda just you know clicked. We started talking all the time and a lot to the point where we became best friends. Then we started talking in servers and dms a lot. We have 50+ mutual services on discord. I really appreciate ee a lot and what he does. He’s one of the nicest and best people I’ve meet in a while.

Numbers- he was the guy who recruited me to join this league and I meet him in a different football league where he was my AD for a half of a season. It was genuinely a really fun half of a season one of the best I had had in that league because of who my previous AD was :flooshed:. He also helps me update in this league hehe. It’s been supa fun knowing numbers and having him as my friend. Then I got drafted onto the same team in Honolulu and he was super joyful about that. It is really cool to be teamed up here playing together will be fun.

Adrest- same with ee I met him in a basketball sim league when I joined then about a month goes by and we start to talk. But we talk daily and he’s my second most dmed person in my discord’s account history so  he is definitely super close to me. We were very excited to be on the same team here and I look forward it a lot when we get called up. It’s been super fun knowing Adrest and I look forward to continuing our friendship through the times.

RE: (S30) Offseason Point Task - Lowlycrib - 07-12-2021

There have been a number of users that have made a positive impact since my time joining in season 17. The first few include individuals from my season 17 draft class that included Saba, Butters, Run, and Action Jackson who all made the first season in the DSFL so interesting and entertaining that made me keep coming back to update and watch my dot do things. From the start of my time with the Sabercats after being draft in the first round, there was a whole lot of I individuals that joined the team that made the locker room even better and enjoyable to be in with people such as Bass, Matty, Fisher, etc. as well as so many others that would take too long to name. The GMs of the Sabercats have also been great which included Ckroyal & RRad that were the part of the driving force of picking such great players and people that all coexist all generally have a great time talk about sports, the sim, and life in general. While I have only highlighted individual members, it's the entire league of people that truly makes a thing such as this possible and great because without them it truly would be stale and eventually fold due to inactivity. Another aspect that has had a positive impact includes the main discord as well as the rookie discord because it truly allows for some positive interactions amongst players that might not interact otherwise but the rookie discord especially allows for some of the individuals of the same class to interact and form some friendships and rivalries which I certainly did. Lastly, as much as we all like to rag on them, Head Office members truly drive the league and make all of this possible which they should be at least mentioned in this conversation because without them this league and all of its position interactions were not possible.

First of all, much appreciation to all who have jobs and contribute their time and energy to keeping the league going! From Head Office to simmers to bankers and events team, you all do your best to give people a fun experience. It isn't always easy to make everyone happy all the time, but hopefully the rewards are worth the hassle sometimes! So far my experience has been that things are done quickly and smoothly and I enjoy especially watching the videos/streams of live games but also things like the draft and awards.

More specifically, much love going out to the SHL Aurora/BirdDog gang, the quality of the people who came to SHL inspired me to give this league a real try and I'm glad I did, it is fun even though sometimes I slack a bit. - Kya, engi, rev, inverted, lim you guys are great. Seeing how people from the ISFL have genuine friendships and are always supportive and encouraging and playfully teasing each other is a great dynamic. In the end, sim leagues are about the people we share our hobbies with and the people I had met from ISFL are very cool and made me want to come have a player in this league as well!

I want to thank the GMs of Tijuana Luchadores, kotasa and guitarmaster, you guys took a chance on me in the draft and I am so glad you did! The effort you guys put in to make sure every single person is active and happy and valued is not a secret, as your awards for GMotY were incredibly well-deserved. The work you guys put into things like the draft and finding the right players for the right positions is meticulous and efficient. Throughout the season you are always positive and keep the discussions going and reaching out to people to keep them engaged. You always do your best to try and win and we came so close! Back to back Ultimini experiences is a huge achievement even if we haven't been able to get that W. But I know we will do it this season! I appreciate personally that you give my player a chance to catch some balls and get some stats and get to have a big role in the offense.

All the fellow Luchadores on the team who make the LR a fun place, always some interesting discussions going on! Special mentions to Dankoa who inspires me to get capped and be worthy of being picked, your player's a monster and you have been leading the way for the defense! Bowlo also I think is underrated person and player, he's fun and also his player is very good! JayWhy also I was super happy that Tijuana drafted him and he has shown why he is a great person with his great LR presence and awesome media! Lonnie is also an awesome person to have on the team and I'm excited that he's going to be involved in managing! Other people who aren't mentioned by name but Tijuana is a fun place to be even if you just lurk and laugh along with the fun!

RE: (S30) Offseason Point Task - golden_apricot - 07-13-2021

I have spent a little over a year in the league so far, and have had good experiences going way back to my days starting in Minny. The people there were great for the time I was a player (things were a bit different after woelkers left the GM spot) and honestly it was a great place to start in the league. As I left there to get called up to the show, I started to make friends with some of the really great people in Colorado. Of all the people there, the best two by a long shot were Rotti and Frickybear who I have continued to develop relationships with over the last year or so both here and in SHL which is my main league. The rest of my time in Col was great, it was awesome to go through the process with that team, going from being complete shit, to being one of the best teams in the league (even though we had a shit kicker the entire time…). Even after Frick left the people there were great, including Moosey and Isa who were the more active people I interacted with there. I recreated as an OL and tbh the community within the OL community is great. The OL discord and discussions there are interesting and good to read and keep up on, and there being a few GMs in there is also great for networking. So thanks Cal for doing a great job making OL people in the league. The teams I am on now are also great. Big fan of BBB and BAL Lrs, I am more active in BAL thank BBB but still some good conversations and people to be found in both places. Shoutout to Bigred who continues to steal my golden hawk accolade from me each time I get it.

RE: (S30) Offseason Point Task - Bigred1580 - 07-13-2021

This is really hard to write, not because I don't want to give love, but because it is hard to leave anyone out.  Know that if I do leave you out, I'm sorry, there are just so many people that have made this league enjoyable!

First I would not be here without @manicmav36 .  He is a true friend both in this league and outside.  If anything, me joining this league has made us closer.  There is no one better.  I wish we lived closer just so my wife and I could see you more often.

Alright, when I first joined there were a lot of vets who made transitioning into this league a breeze.  @nunccoepi @iseedoug took me on in Tijuana.  @Ben @PaytonM34 became my GMs.  @Daybe @White Cornerback and @AdamS drafted me to yellowknife where I really started to thrive.  But what really got me integrated into the league and actually making friends was Werewolf.  Thanks to @124715 for welcoming me and all the guys that helped me to open up out of my shell.  @JKortesi81 @Dangles13 @iamslm22 @Oles @SwagSloth @run_CMC @ItsJustBarry @Beaver @Wally .  Even those who joined after me like @Fordhammer @SDCore @ScorpXCracker @Modern_Duke . Werewolf was a big part of my feeling of acceptance in this league! Thank you all for making it so fun!

Those I met in Tijuana have a special place in my heart.  It was my first team, and although I am no longer in your war room or super active, It will forever be my home.  @TomHanks @slothfacekilla @FleshBagSoup @goodfortunecoffee @mithrandir @Kyle @Jay_Doctor @Tonzy @Kotasa @"Punter715"  @GuitarMaster116 @CalvinGolladay @JPach All of you made that locker room a great place to hang out for so long!

In Yellowknife, I not only got to grow up with some of you, but I got to draft and lead you.  I have learned so much from guys like @timeconsumer @CDub2 @Tomen @Sweetwater @Trautner and have gotten to see guys grow in this league as well, @shadyshoelace @Baron1898 @"AirCrou" @ValorX77 and not to leave out @flyeaglesfly29 were in my first draft class and built the foundation for our future dynasty. Shady then became my co-GM and one of the best GMs of all time, and a really great friend.  @BaconBrother @CLG Rampage @hihihi_62 @JaytheGreat were some of my best picks, because they were all great guys.  @Colabear @deadlunatic @DarknessRising @ZootTX @PMoney  I wish I could have continued with you guys and been a part of what you helped create.

But for the end of Swift's career, I went to San Jose and got to be in the center of one of the most unexpected runs a team has ever had, taking two championships.  Thank you @ckroyal92 and @Rradum for making the move for me and @RussDrivesTheBus @BenDover @Matty7478 @MN_Moosey for always making me feel welcome.

On to player 2, I was drafted by KC and immediately enjoyed getting to hang out once again with numbers.  But it also allowed me to get to know a new group of awesome people.  @noanic @firstfray @frazzle14 @WhatAmUs @z0rem

And then to Baltimore, where I was lucky to be picked by the great GMs of @Hallmonitor_20 and @Frick_Nasty even if they also drafted that stinky goose.  Immediately I knew we were building a special culture and am super excited to see what we can all do.  @Tomasnz @King Jellyfish (the king of GFX and counting in Baltimore and one of the nicest people too) @kentakira @TheDangaZone @UltimateYeehaw @Shiny @fever95 @allbetsonjames @golden_apricot  plus guys I talked about before like shady, fuzzy and tom make this a core group that rivals any team.

There are many others I want to shout out who I have interacted through jobs, or just on discord, or even barely interacted at all but I respect you.  You all have made my time here enjoyable.  @tlk742 @Raven @ADwyer87 @Toasty @MrStennett @Eco @Duilio05 @speculadora @Laser @SchwarzNarr @PDXBaller @Tesla @bex @TeyonSchavari @Kyamprac @Amidships @nickyvmlp @Bwestfield @woelkers @Number 82 @BWIII @LimJahey @Bayley @dude_man @OrbitingDeath @ddrector @Starboy @katarn22 @jeffie43 @Ephenssta @WildfireMicro @Mooty99 @Frostbite @Dewalt27 @Nokazoa @Wombat @Swanty @overdoo @RDBSouthPaw @siddhus @209tacos @JuOSu @Jangorhino @PigSnout @Leafer @moonlight  @enigmatic @terriblehippo @TubbyTim69 and @Revolution5 and like I said, I know I am forgetting more people and am sorry.  although I tried to tag half the league.

oh and I guess @infinitempg is ok.

RE: (S30) Offseason Point Task - Gragg9 - 07-13-2021

The hardest part about this point task will be deciding when to stop. So let’s not waste too many words or time on introduction.

Everyone already knows that @Painted, @shrub02, and @mango8154 are getting tagged in my post. Three of the true rookies that came in through S28 Minnesota. I couldn’t ask for a better draft class. Been great getting to know and take over the league with this crew. Even if some play for stinky teams.

Speaking of S28 Minnesota, a massive shoutout once again to @RussDrivesTheBus and @TheCC for drafting me way too early and being responsible for me spending too much time in the league. I wrote a media article along with Shrub and Painted that they should have won GM of the Year and I still maintain that view. After CC big leagued us for Chicago, @Crodyman stepped in and absolutely knocked it out of the park. Still can’t believe that he and Russ didn’t win GM of the Year this season because they absolutely deserved it. I have little doubt that they'll win it sooner or later though.

My experience with great GMs didn’t end in Minny though. @Blasoon and @Memento Mori have been fantastic in OCO and made me feel very welcome. I know they have my back and they’re just swell humans to be around.

Other than those obvious folk I want to thank, there’s probably 100 other people I could include in this post. The rest of the S28 class and particularly the S28 rookies, the whole Minny and OCO teams/war rooms. CLG, Darkness, Goat Tank for teaching me a few things. Mithrandir, Duilio, qWest, Laser, etc. for getting me in on some fun projects/jobs. All of HO for doing the tough jobs that most people don’t want to do. Any of the numerous DSFL GMs, scouts, and rookie mentors that answered my barrage of questions when I first joined (let’s be honest I’m still asking tons of questions). Etc etc etc. Could go on and on. The vast majority of the community has contributed into a really positive experience here and I’m really thankful to y’all for that.
