RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - GuitarMaster116 - 08-01-2021 My player almost never was a football player. He first joined football in high school and had no clue how to play. So he started his football journey being awful and not actually knowing how to play the game. This led to him getting no playing time and he faded out of mind. No one reached out to him for college and eventually Mellott thought his football career died. What happened after was Mellott started to gain a love and respect for the sport and started working towards getting better at it before trying out for his college and getting on the team. If Mellott did not pursue football, he was going to Virginia Tech to become a Mechanical Engineer, and he would have continued down that path and eventually would have gone for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. His dream job down this path would be to work for a space company like NASA and work with a bunch of other people to help humanity learn more about space overall and also try and help push humanity towards the stars and bring the world into the next generation and hopefully play a major part in watching and creating a world that many would not think would be possible, a world in the stars. But instead, he is a big beefy football player who hits people for a living, so thats fun too. However if another sport was not an option Daniel would probably be a security guard as he is pretty big, imposing and fast so he would be able to deter crime and chase down runners/shoplifters if needed, this line of work also lends to his slightly more aggressive personality, it would also lend to his slightly less intellectual base. Another potential line of work would potentially be a pizza delivery boy or maybe something like a box mover, these less mentally demanding and more physically demanding tasks would suit Daniel perfectly as repetitive work is really what he excels at as he is really good at learning a simple task that he has to do over and over again. RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - MobiausGrander - 08-01-2021 Like in many time travel and philosophical forms of media, the power of choice can not be understated. One simple choice can change an entire person's life at the speed of light, a fact that I have found myself constantly coming back to when I think about my football career. The main reason that I became a football player even in the first place is that I like playing defense in sports in general, especially when I can make a direct impact on the game myself. I found myself reinforcing that belief after going through history and watching some of the greatest players in history play for the Gators. If I did not decide to pursue a career in football, I would have decided to become a teacher in STEM subjects, namely Chemistry and Biology from the middle school to high school level. I did decide to spend all 4 years at Florida to acquire my undergrad in Chemistry as a fail safe in case the football career does not pan out. Luckily, to this present day, I have had a successful career up until this point and am glad that I have had success in this career path in this timeline! RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - Trashae - 08-01-2021 Life is full of choices and Teddy Murphy has managed to make all the wrong ones. Originally intending to declare for the draft immediately Murphy instead missed the draft altogether and wound up being claimed off waivers after entering the league undrafted. But before botching the execution of the decision beyond recognition Murphy did a lot of soul searching before ultimately deciding to pursue a career on the gridiron. Like is mother and his mother's mother before her Murphy has a passion for teaching and was strongly considering going that route to surround himself with peers that are intellectually on his level in a second grade classroom. However, clearly Murphy chose football and as a family man it really was an easy decision that came down to the unfortunate state of teachers' compensation in the US. Murphy intends to have a family one day and the money that comes with a football career means that generations of Murphys to come will be able to live in comfort and not struggle financially. That was an easy tradeoff to make especially considering the inevitability of one particularly smart second grader exposing Murphy's darkest secret. He never learned how to read English and his understanding of Japanese is barely beyond a middle school level. RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - dogwoodmaple - 08-01-2021 The main reason I ended up playing football was my father. My entire life, he worked tirelessly, alongside my mother, to provide us with everything we needed. They never took time off, never took vacations, and worked every possible minute to give my sister and myself everything we could have ever asked for. We always had clean clothes, school supplies, and even a car once we each turned 16. Now, all of that work took a major toll on my father and he developed a bad back after years and years and years of hard work. But in high school, I realized I was an elite football player and started getting recruited by schools. It was then that I realized what I could do - I could continue to play football professionally and make enough money to provide a new home and comfortable life for both my father and mother in their retirement years. And that's what keeps me going every single day for the New York Silverbacks. I want to make sure I repay everything that they've done for me was worth it not just to make me a better person, but to make sure they know how much I understand and appreciate their sacrifices. With every single paycheck I get, I make sure my parents are taken care of and can live out their years in comfort and wanting for nothing. It's all for them! 236 words RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - katarn22 - 08-01-2021 Growing up, Albert was always a big kid. Always the tallest, naturally the strongest, and yet, football never caught his eye. His interests initially lied elsewhere, specifically in choral singing. Albert's parents, despite his physical gifts, never signed him up for football. They were afraid of him getting injured and suffering lifelong effects from it. His father was a singer, though, and those genes seemed to have been passed along to Albert. Albert took up choir from a young age, about 10 years old. He continued on this path all the way through high school. It was there, however, that he was encouraged by his choir teacher, Bill Mathews. While Albert had a fantastic singing voice, Mr. Mathews couldn't help but notice his physical gifts. After class one day he encouraged Albert to try out for the football team, especially since he was good friends with the head coach. Albert took his advice and tried out the next day. And from there, the rest is history. Had Albert not done this, it is tough to say where he might be. Mr. Mathews, despite influencing him to play football, also strongly encouraged him to pursue his musical talents. It is possible that Albert would have pursued vocal performance in college. New Jersey actually has a college dedicated to choral music that Albert had visited multiple times before. Maybe Albert could have been the next Mr. Mathews? RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - overdoo - 08-01-2021 If Lawrence Miller hadn't gotten into football, his life would be pretty different from the start. He'd have more free time, mainly to spend with others, his family, and friends. He'd probably had gotten a full-time job right out of high school, landscaping with his father. Or, maybe he would have gone into college for some sort of medicine, he was pretty good at science, his grades just hadn't always reflected that. Maybe he would have gone full circle, and gotten into sports therapy, or sports med, or something of the like. He could take that skill to the vet route instead, which he could have possibly enjoyed. The difficult thing is, you could never really know. Of course, spending more time socially probably meant more parties than he'd already been going to, and one wrong choice could derail his life from there. Not uncommon for kids, really. But Lawrence, since high school, really seemed to have a bright future regardless of how football turned out. Hell, who knows, maybe he'd be living a better life if he never started playing. But it's hard to look at his time so far and say he'd regret it, it's fun for him. There's time after retirement to test himself with all the other ideas he had had growing up. He'd already gotten a few classes down with school, but there would be more to pursue. RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - JaytheGreat - 08-01-2021 If Jay Spears had never taken up football, his life would probably still have went towards sports. Starting with his last name of Spears, he did compete in javelin throwing in high school and he was good enough to throw in the state competitions. Without the love of football Spears would probably try his hand at becoming an Olympic javelin thrower (if it's not already a sport in the Olympics, it becomes one) and with putting his entire focus into that he would be good enough to win some medals. But that's only one possibility, another one would be less sports related. Outside of sports Jay Spears always liked being out doors, and so without the love of sports Spears would probably live somewhere semi secluded and be a handy man along with being a fisherman and hunter. While not quite living off the land or being one of those mountain men you see on TV, Spears would get most of his money from helping fix things around the town/city and selling excess food he was. The last possibility would be playing another sport but Spears probably wouldn't find any of the other major sports as fun as football. RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - Kotasa - 08-01-2021 Rich Triplet while mainly focusing on pursuing a career in the ISFL never gave up on his studies at Minnesota State. Rich was in limbo upon arriving to the school but was told by his parents to ensure that he was spending his time studying on the off chance ISFL did not work out, weather it due to injury or just not playing to the level the league demands. Rich only took his generals his first two years and took a course on drug education thinking it would be an easy A and that he could breeze through school with the help of the class. Little did he know it would change his life, the topic of addiction hit a soft spot for Rich, and he continued to take classes in the alcohol and drug studies major since he enjoyed the topic of addiction. A year in and Rich had decided that if he were to not make it in the ISFL he would dedicate his life to counseling, helping those who had succumbed to the disease of addiction. If Rich hadn’t made it he planned on going into the field of opiate dependent programs and helping there especially due to the rise of the opiate epidemic in the US along with being an aspiring professional athlete he had seen some succumb to the disease in his personal life. Rich has talked about continuing school and getting his license after his playing days are done. RE: (S30) PT 2 - Alternate History - Luciddreams702 - 08-01-2021 Football was always the only thing that made sense, the one constant that I had growing up. The path to the ISFL was inevitable. If I wouldn't have made it to the ISFL you would find me on the road fronting a band playing shows across the Country. Aside from football music was the only outlet and experience I had where I could truly express myself. When my football career began to take off a decision had to be made, Pursue a career in Football or continue playing music. The choice wasn't as simple as you might expect the freedom and rush that comes from playing a sold out show is a feeling that is hard to explain. While playing "Rockstar" would have been a dream come true; My journey in the ISFL has been more than I ever could have asked for. Some people play their whole careers and never get a chance to experience a championship season like the one that I was a part of. Without that season and the connection to the Royals i never would have been able to realize another football related dream and that's becoming a General Manager. Sure there's a lot of decisions, choices and what ifs you could ask but even with the endless possibilities that could have been there's not a single regret for the choices made that let me to the ISFL. |
