RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - J0EB - 09-01-2021 Code: 12. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better? Borgo San Lorenzo was an absolute beast this season. In 16 games, Borgo tallied up 90 receptions for a total of 1038 yards and 8 touchdowns. This is 11.5 yards per reception, with a long of 58 yards. The league was not ready to block this man and his success this year shows that opposing defenses should be terrified of the offense of the Philadelphia Liberty. Borgo lead the league's TE's in every category except total receptions and longest play. Most yards and yards per catch, most TD's means he was the most impactful when the ball was in his hands. Borgo should easily take home the TEotY award this year, and he could bring in the Offensive Breakout Player of the Year award as well. Compared to last season, Borgo nearly doubled his yards with 30 more catches. His average per catch went up 2.5 yards, and he had 5 more TD's than the previous year. These are huge gains and I can't stress enough how Borgo's consistency on the field helped the offense flourish. Watching this man do work and pick up first downs was an inspiration to the entire team, and cheering for him week in and week out was always exciting. He lead TE's in fantasy this year by a large margin as well, which is really the most important part. In my opinion, Borgo's only real competition for Offensive Breakout Player of the Year would be Deadly Memes, but I think the comparison there is a bit unfair, as Memes formerly played a solo role of FB, which gets obviously far fewer and worse opportunities than a RB1/2. His attempts increased from 24 to 192, which is 168 more carries, but his YPC only increased from 4.2 to 5.3, 1.1 more yards per carry. Realistically, you could say that Borgo also lined up frequently at WR3, which has more opportunities than the TE1 position does, but TE1 still gets the ball a lot (as evidenced by his 61 catches from Season 29). Borgo showed a massive growth this year in his overall efficiency, not just getting the ball fed to him 150+ more times. As far as the other members of the ballot in this group go, for Marc Hamel, 22 extra cakes and 6 less sacks allowed is a good improvement, but it's not in the same class as that of Borgo who held more frequent quantifiable impacts on the course of games. Remus Roman was fed the ball 100 more times, and while his yards did increase by nearly 500 and his TD's by 12, his average yardage per carry remained the same. Finally, Joseph Radetzky had a big increase in targets, receptions and yards, going from 37 to 90, and having almost 700 more yards than the prior season, but his efficiency went down, having a lower yard per reception by 1.2. I give credit to everyone on the ballot for Offensive Breakout Player for having great seasons, but Borgo's improvement is easily set apart on it's own. Code: 31. The World Football Association was established last season and is currently playing out for the first time. What do you think about the WFC as a whole and how it has been shaping out. Do you think it will end up a success? The World Football Association I think is a fantastic addition to the ISFL, through this team I've been able to unite out on the field with some old friends, and talking with my teammates (new and old) about the team we're on and who we're playing with and against has been a lot of fun. While personally, due to IRL factors, I'm not able to watch the sims, I really wish that I had the time. I heard that I got a pick six in one of the games and was super proud lol. I think the new psuedo-league will be a success, but like everything in life this first draft will require some changes and adjustments. First off with picking who plays on teams, I've heard some complaints from players missing out on being on a team for no clear reason, which to me makes no sense. In another case, I've heard that some users would like there to be a younger representation on these teams, rather than the maxed out players getting most of the glory yet again. I'm not sure that I entirely agree that the WF(A/C which is it?) is the right place for this. I think that the idea for some form of Youth Showcase would be a lot of fun to keep newer users engaged, but I like the idea as a vet with a maxed out player to be able to play once more with my old friends on a new team. One last thought I had is that I wish some of the logo's were better, I know logo design is incredibly difficult, I went through the painstaking process of changing Norfolk's logo after all (shout out to Schwarz and Tmo and everyone else who worked on that project). But maybe now that the first teams have been selected, if there was a community effort to put in your own influence on what you think the logo should contain, or any fresh ideas you may have for it, and have the logo change on a 3-5 year basis as the team make-up changes. I can't tell if that's a really dumb idea, or a really fun one lol. RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Cincyfan96 - 09-01-2021 17. Your team has announced that they will be laying ground on a new stadium next season. What additions would you like to see included in it. No graphics option available here. I have one addition and one addition only that I want to be in the new stadium. I can talk about it for 200 words, don’t you worry. Replace box seats with hot tubs. Same price, same location, but instead of inviting my corporate business partners to come stand in their stiff suits and squint at the game, I’m telling them to bring their swim suits and…still squint at the game. It’s so high up there, I don’t know how anyone can see anything that’s going on. And one more thing, have a raffle for one of the very best boxes each and every game. That way, the “fans of the week” get to have all you can eat wings and kettle corn and beers in style. Imagine how iconic this could become! Fans would go nuts for the chance to combine their love of football with their love of hot tubs (we all love hot tubs; if you don’t, you’re wrong). Perhaps this is my idea because I want a hot tub and I cannot afford one and maybe if my home stadium had 60 of them I could sneak in after practice and relax in the tub. But even if that’s the case, this is a good idea and Berlin GMs and owners and whoever else runs this fictitious team had better get on it!!! 21. Now thats three seasons on the new sim. What are your thoughts? Do you think that it is better than DDSPF16? Overall, I really like this sim. I can’t comment on the strategy or how smooth it operates from a programming side or anything like that. The only thing I see is the video that gets published to YouTube. That video is what I like better. I find it far easier to follow where the ball is and to find the stats of the players involved, even if they are typically a few plays behind in updating. There are certainly moments where the sim doesn’t replicate real life decision-making. There will always be field goals kicked at stupid moments, 4th downs that should have been no-brainer decisions, punts kicked and spiked balls dropped that end the game rather than allowing one more play…That’s just a part of being in a sim it seems. But the clarity of this broadcast along with the tempo we fell into this season feels really good (please never use the tempo from last year’s Ultimus ever ever ever EVER again). I only have two beefs with this sim. First is that it won’t let my team win. I was drafted by Arizona and play for Berlin and those two teams have been big time boned by the playoffs since we switched to this sim. So sorry for the curse, guys…I am a Bengals fan, so I guess it makes sense. Second is that there are WAY too many safeties. We’ve gotta help our QBs learn to throw the ball away when they’re in the end zone. I don’t know how to fix anything, but I really don’t think any of my complaints are big deals. I’m glad we made the switch. 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why? I’ve been putting some thought into this lately as I’m thinking about if I want to create another player. I picked linebacker because it is the position I would most have liked to play had I had a football career (don’t hear this thinking I was on the fringe of having a football career; I was not). I was told not to do quarterback because it’d be too stressful, and while I think I’d have enjoyed it with this create, if I do recreate I’m not going to be writing 5,000 word media pieces to support my equipment purchases or getting a fancy league job. So, I’d want to pick a position that doesn’t require max earning in order to be effective, but still makes an impact on the field. I’m drawn to running back and tight end. These two positions seem to lend themselves towards players getting to be involved in a good bit of the game but not having to max earn like a quarterback in order to be relevant. Also, I could someday be on someone’s fantasy cheat sheet and that would be pretty dope. Since I’m nothing close to a running back in real life, I think I’d lean towards a tight end, which is ironically enough the offensive position I would pick if I were to play in real life. So had I not been a linebacker, that’s probably where I would have gone. Who knows, maybe in a few seasons I’ll try it out… 29. Awards have been a subject of controversy for a while in the league. Tell us your ideas on how awards process can be fixed. My fix for awards is pretty simple. Step one, have an equal amount of people representing each team. Step two, do not allow anyone to cast any votes for anyone from their own team. Done. If there are 2 reps from each team in the committee, so 28 people in that case, have the vote totals be out of 26 since only 26 people are eligible to vote for each player (28 minus the two that are on the same team). That way you can still have someone get unanimous voting for a certain award, but you will cut down on so much of the fighting and lobbying. Each member of the committee will have to research players outside if their own team and see who they think is the most deserving of those players. This would help to cut down on the arguing in nominations as well, since the same rule would apply and each member can only nominate people from other teams. I think that this would be effective in cutting down on controversy, heightening integrity, and making for a much more balanced and performance-based voting by the awards committee. Someone will always be mad they didn’t win, but at least there will be less getting in the way of the right person winning each award. RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - JKortesi81 - 09-01-2021 Task 1 – Option 6. The best “championship week” in sim leagues is back, and I couldn’t be more excited to talk about an ISFL topic for 800 words. This time, I want to focus on something I’ve been very involved with on this site: media. As many know, I’ve been the media head for like 3 real life years now. In that time, media was a mess of nonsense, and it was never getting graded very quickly. Graders were getting paid slave wages (seriously, it was a lot of work for a measly four million dollars a season, when you could just record an hour podcast for the same moolah). After lots of fights with the prior Head Offices, finally the current one came around to their senses and made it much better. On top of that, we expanded the team to more than enough graders that all media gets graded (save for podcasts occasionally) at a very reasonable pace. As the Reddit drafts caused this league to BALLOON, we were ready for it. And it was awesome. New players and people constantly putting media articles in to make money and enhance that draft stock. It wasn’t even that long ago, but I’d call that the “heyday” of ISFL media. So, what’s the problem now? I mean let’s be honest, we still get a good chunk of media during the season. But I don’t know if things are properly overflowing like they used to be. Part of this could be related to the less than we’re used to rookie classes coming in as of late. More recreates means more people with cash. But honestly, the issue in my incredibly informed opinion on media is that everyone literally just waits on 1.5x media weeks. Or the occasional 2x media week, depending on how if I can make that happen or not. (The Head Office in the past determined that we should only do 1.5x and not 2x, for the record). We used to always have draft week media doubled as a way to highlight the new players and get them hyped about being in the league. Let’s face it, one of the coolest things for a brand new player is to see them hyped up by others. Plus, mock draft articles are just the best ones, hands down. Anyway, the decision to make the bonus week only 1.5x, according to HO, was to stop everyone from sitting on articles and releasing them all when the 2x came out. But, to a whole new generation of ISFLers, 1.5x is the norm. So now we find ourselves sitting on articles again for the slightly bigger payout. History, as they say, repeats itself yet again. As Media Head, I’ve racked my brain trying to think of the right solution to encourage more media throughout the season. The answer is *NOT* going down to 1.25x. That is just awful. I think going to a higher “per word” formula may help, but that doesn’t encourage longer articles. The current Head Office has proposed various “media contests” but the truth is that most of the league doesn’t give a shit about that. You get the same few people battling for some extra cash and it’s just never the turnout you expect it or hope for it to be. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good idea in theory, but most of the general ISFL public just doesn’t participate in it. Or care who wins. They’d all rather just have the safety that is the guaranteed pay out of 1.5 or 2x. Another option would be just to up the word count and remove any “media” events altogether. That way people will never be able to wait around for the media multiplier that would never be coming. It means a more steady stream of media, more than likely. But is that what we want for the league? The media events are pretty fun and people *do* like the content they produce. It inspires new articles, player backstories, and even fun new podcasts to listen to. Which means the idea that having the “requested” articles could be a good one too. But again, if people don’t know anything about the topics asked for, they get discouraged and they don’t do anything at all. I know this because I get DMs from ISFLers all of the time asking about what else they can do to make some more cash. One last idea I had was to make certain articles worth more in a given week. Like fantasy predictions one week when we’re drafting, season predictions into the first week of simming, etc. But really all that does is the same thing of sitting on articles and waiting to post them for more cash. The truth is, I don’t know what the answer really is. It’s frustrating and I don’t think any one answer will be the best. Everything will have its flaws. But I do look forward to figuring out the answer someday. All I know is that ISFL media is the best in the sim leagues, and I hope we can get some more inspired articles in the near future. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? We didn’t have the greatest season in New Orleans. We had high hopes at the start of the season but we knew that we would be fighting for a playoff spot right from the get go. We’ve got some great players here and we all want to win for each other, but we especially wanted to do well this season for a couple of New Orleans Second Line legends who were playing in their last season, which was this past season. Ben Slothlisberger and Ed Barker were two dominate players when my player, Vincent Jones Jr, joined the team these two players were the top of the tops. They were two of the best players in their positions in the ISFL and each of them gave their everything for the team week in and week out. We all knew that this would be the last season for these two and when the season started, we all talked about having a good showing to send these guys off properly. We had hoped that we could win enough games to sneak into the playoffs because we knew that if we got in to the playoffs, anything could happen. We came up short on that goal and I would have to chalk that up to a few key losses during the season. These losses were heartbreakers, filled with terrible luck and untimely calls. At the end of the day we weren’t able to pull off the wins when we needed them, stopping us from being able to get Slothlisberger and Barker to the big dance for one final time. These two retire as New Orleans legends, each racking up NOLA hall of fame numbers and will be sorely missed next season. As for expectations for next season, they are high, just like they are at the end of any season. We’ve got a good mix of young players and veterans and we’ve got a dedicated front office that will make sure we’ve got the support we need. Just like this season, our main goal will to be to get into a playoff spot so we can make some noise and hopefully return to the Ulitmus championship game. For Jones, he is coming into the prime of his career, two seasons away from the start of regression, he is looking to regain his form. A disappointing season for him in just about every stat, he hopes to have a bounce back season and help guide the Second Line back to the promise land. Let’s go NOLA!!! Tier 3: Written/Graphics Tasks (Each must be either 200+ words or a graphic) Choose up to FOUR for 2.5 TPE each. 15. Going to Disneyland! Who was the Ultimus Game MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) My vote for the Ultimus Game MVP would most definitely go to Mike Boss Jr. He led his Sarasota Sailfish in the game and was dominate against the Arizona defense. Completing 20 of 30 passes for 254 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Boss Jr was the reason the Sailfish took this game and was very deserving of the MVP. Like all MVP’s before him, Mike uttered those famous words ‘I’m going to Disneyland!!’. What did Mike do at Disneyland? From what I have heard, he had always wanted to go to the magical place of Disneyland, and this was just an easy excuse for him to go and live his childhood fantasies. He arrived at the park 20 minutes before it opened, he wanted to be the first in. The smile on his face was massive as the gates opened and he ran as fast as he could into the magical place. He stopped to greet each and every mascot he could and obliged each and every fan who stopped him for an autograph or picture. He rode every ride and sampled just about all of the food offerings. Mike Boss Jr was not only the MVP of the Ultimus game, he was also the MVP of Disneyland! 32. Affliate PT from either SHL/PBE. The Weeks must match with the timeframe of this UW. I am not overly familiar with the sim to be completely honest however there are things I have noticed as a viewer of sims that my created player, Tugg Speedman, is in. The first of which, is the removal of stats being constantly shown throughout the game. It's quite the bummer that we can't just see what the offensive and defensive stats for all players are at the bottom left and right of the screen. It would be nice if it was maybe an option to have selected for what the preference is. People care about their stats, show them! Another one I have noticed, is the animations seem t be a little more out of whack. The old sim may have done this from time to time but I feel like every single sim I see a weird animation. Heck, there's a GIF that shows up now when you type in "Tugg Speedman" and it shows me catching the ball at the 1 then running to the 15 or 20 yard line then scoring a touchdown. I guess one positive I can take out of the switch is a newer index? I think that has an effect on the index at least. Maybe some cleaner looking menus and the such. Code: 211 words Quote:22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? So literally this is a such a fun question as I just found out about a band that I think would blow the roof off of an Ultimus or even an Ultimini half-time show. The band name is Turnstile and their new album Glow On is a fantastic record front to back. I think a condensed set of this new phenomenal record would be an absolute blast to get fans pumped up for a back and forth between both teams or maybe something to wake everyone up before a big comeback win! In addition, I like the idea of getting rid of the conventional halftime-show. It would also be fun to have a band play during normal commercial breaks or even have an opener and headliner for a halftime show. Who wouldn't want to see someone like Blink 182 perform classics like First Date, Dammit, or I Miss You while Turnstile opened up for them or something along those lines. I think it would also be nice for a change of pace and to try out a rock act since pop and hip hop has essentially taken over the halftime show realm. So lets bring back some good ole rock and roll or as some have coined the new Turnstile record, Dream Punk! Code: 213 words Quote:29. Awards have been a subject of controversy for a while in the league. Tell us your ideas on how awards process can be fixed. I think I have been somewhat vocal in the past about the voting process for awards. It is not perfect in any league although I think some have it worse than others, which unfortunately I would name the International Simulation Football League as probably the worst at least among the two I take part in. As a GM in the Pro Baseball Experience and as a prior awards committee member who have voted for finalists, I have seen first hand the cliquey and completely irresponsible voting for your own players despite not being deserved and actually snubbing other members. It completely ruins people's views of leagues especially if you are a long-time member or even someone like me who was still early in their ISFL life. I think the best way to avoid GM's from abusing their power is to create a committee or to have *JUST* Head Office vote based on the awards committee's decided finalists. The arguments brought up in the awards committee are always engaging and sometimes when you have the appropriate breakdown of stats and usage it really helps things. I know some may not like this option of giving Head Office more power or more of a voice but I think it may be the most unbiased you could get in regards to voting. Code: 219 words Quote:32. I remember the Season 28 draft like it was yesterday. I remember not really knowing where I was gonna land due to all the drama that surrounded me leading up to it. I had been, for lack of a better term, an asshole for pretty much as long as I had been in the league up until a week before draft day. I didn’t know if the GMs thought I had changed or not. I read some mocks, and got a feeling I would go somewhere in the 4th round. It was a pretty stacked running back class after all, and I certainly wasn’t the best earner so I would accept this fate. First pick is Luke Quick. Understandable, BigRed is a great user and had an insanely high TPE count. Second pick is Busch Goose. Again, a great player and user with a high amount of TPE. I thought the Hawks had their next offensive duo of the future, and I ended up being kinda sorta right. More picks come and go. 6th overall, the Silverbacks select my fellow Bondi Beach Buccaneer teammate Mongo. I was happy for him, as I didn’t really expect him to go this high. The first round comes and goes. Okay, I wasn’t expecting to get picked there anyways. It would have taken a miracle for me to go that high. Just keep it cool, finish this pint of ice cream, and wait until the 4th round. Dexter Zaylen was picked in the 2nd round. Laser had always been nice to me so I was pretty happy for him too. More running backs go off the board. Manhattan Project, Remus Roman, Erik Gaare. I start getting a little worried now. I mean nobody goes into the draft expecting to be a bottom feeder, but I was still a little disappointed by how it was going thus far. But that’s okay, there’s still plenty of rounds to go. More running backs go off the board. Lonnie Jackson, Taipan Pete. It’s now the 4th round. This is my time to shine. Chathack’rius Smith went off the board here, and I was happy for him too. But now I’m getting a little impatient. There’s only so many picks in this draft, when is my number gonna get called? The 4th round comes and goes. Still nothing. Inactives are being taken now. It hurt knowing that all of these teams would rather have a guy who doesn’t earn than me. But I knew my previous actions would have consequences. The Otters are on the board now. Their biggest need is running back, they haven’t taken one so far, and I don’t know any other still left besides me. They take an inactive running back. I’m convinced I’m going undrafted now. If nobody has taken me up to this point, who would now? The very next pick, the New York Silverbacks select me. I was hyped. Finally, a team decided to take a chance on me! This was my chance to prove everyone who ever doubted me wrong. My chance to redeem myself. I liked the Silberbacks locker room instantly. I started earning at a higher rate than I had before. But most importantly, my team liked me. I finally redeemed myself. My rookie year, I was nominated for Offensive Rookie of The Year. My team won the ultimus! And I had redeemed myself. So that’s my perspective of the season 28 draft. I went from a person nobody thought would succeed because of my bad attitude, to now being a DSFL GM. So thank you New York, for actually believing in me. So how did everyone else turn out? Well the first two picks did end up being franchise cornerstones of the Hawks like I expected. Mongo and me are still teammates in New York. I had a disappointing rookie year, but I’m still earning pretty well and hope to bounce back next year and hopefully earn the starting job once Rogers gets older. As far as I know, all of the inactives drafted ahead of me are still inactive. I was picked only 5 picks before the last pick. But you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. This draft was just another wake up call for me. Apologizing to Wildfire and starting my comeback was a good start before the draft, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to convince GMs to take me high. Being drafted this late helped me realize that if I’m an asshole to everyone else, GMs are just gonna pass me by. Especially with an expendable position that has lots of creates every season like running back. It just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how late you’re drafted. If you improve as a player and a person, you will get your shot. So not only would I like to thank New York, this thank you goes out to every GM who passed on me. You helped me realize that my behavior was destructive to myself. And now that I have improved as a person, here I am now. Ultimus winner, Ultimus MVP, enjoying my time with the Silverbacks, and (hopefully) them enjoying me. And now I’m the GM of my old DSFL team. But I’ll never forget this draft, because this turned me into the person I am now. RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - deadlunatic - 09-01-2021 Tell us about your draft class. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to? Once again I get to revisit the famous Season Twenty Five draft class. Still one of the best ones ever. The class is finally the leader in TPE as we have not hit regression just yet. One or two more seasons to dominate before we start falling in TPE and usefulness. Are there any of us that could break records? I know we have at least a couple of retiring members of the class. I for one am not even close to retiring. So, first off, how many quarter backs do we even have in this draft class? Well, since you asked, we have a grand total of One quarter back, Jackie Daytona, who is sitting on (most likely after the update) over 1300 TPE. I guess there just wasn't very many quarter back creates who stayed at that position or lasted through out. On to running backs, how many do we still have? We have nine running backs listed as being on a team currently. If we put them into tiers for earning, the is one at the top of the list, Goat Tank. With somewhere around 1350 TPE, he is miles ahead of anyone else at his position. Tier two has a decent number of ok earners with three running backs over 700 TPE, Rotchburns leading the way, Buster Bawls next up and finishing this tier is Anders with 709ish TPE. Tier three drops down to below 700 but above 450 TPE, with Ben Alexander Arnold leading the way with 640ish, followed by Yaki and Vermillion both of which are right around 600 TPE and the last of this tier Dexter Jackson with barely above 450 TPE. Granted a few of those are fullbacks which realistically don't need as much TPE to be effective anyways. And then we have the barely earned at any point guys, Bronko Mills is the only one of this tier to actually be listed as being on a team. He sits a little above 300 TPE. Wide receivers are next up, with a grand total of six wide outs still listed at the same position. Five of those I would slot into tier one as being active and good earners, all above 1,000 TPE. Darren Pama leads the way with over 1320 TPE, second behind him is Skiuuup with 1250ish TPE, third up is Mark Walker with 1220ish TPE, fourth up is Zach Crossley with 1150ish TPE and last of the tier one guys is Killian Chambers with 1060ish TPE. The only wide out below 1000 TPE is Owen Holloway with 824 TPE. Overall the wide receivers who lasted this long are all good earners ready to try and take over their receiving corps finally for some of us. We shall see what these guys bring to the table this season. On to tight ends. Well there is exactly one tight end left from the season twenty five draft class. Adam C Spencer and he is rocking right around 1k TPE. All of the other tight ends from this class ended up switching positions to something else. He is the lone survivor. On to Offensive Line. Easily the biggest position so far with an astounding thirteen still alive. Granted not all of those are doing well with their earning, but still thirteen is a good number. At the top we have Bob Roberts and Adam Mellott, both sitting around 1250 TPE and leading the class by a good bit overall. Next up we have Marlon Alexander, the only other offensive lineman over 1k TPE. After that they drop fairly quickly in TPE, but luckily it is a position where you don't need a ton of TPE to be effective. Next up are Felix and Connor, both in the 900 TPE range, followed closely by Marc Hamel at 820ish TPE, who is followed closely by Ananda barely below. Next up around 700 TPE is Brent and Harley. The next four are 450ish and below offensive linemen who have given up on making any TPE, but they are still on a team and being used. Next up we have defensive ends, of which there are currently seven. Two of the them stand well above the rest, Toblerone and Crowder are both in the 1340ish TPE range. Next up is Jaxon Waxon and Tex Wrecks in the 1200 and 1150 TPE ranges. Those four are the best of the bunch as far as earning goes. Sanzo is the lone remaining defensive end over 1k TPE. Followed by Slayer in the 770 range. Now up is the defensive tackles, of which there is only four total. One has out earned the rest by a good amount, Chuck Roth sitting over 1300 TPE at the moment. Followed by Honky Tonk Haywood in the 1170 range, followed distantly by Dimbi and Isaac in the 700 range of TPE. Linebackers are next up, with a grand total of seven of them still left. So what I really learned from this exercise is that no matter how good your draft class looks on paper, when you revisit it later on, many seasons later. It will never be as good as you remember it being when it happened. At this point, we are down a lot of players from this draft and in the coming seasons the numbers will only go down. The good news it, we have some solid draft members from this class still going strong. We have multiple people who are at least in line to break franchise records, or at least become franchise legends if not league legends. But, I just remember how epic our class was from the beginning. We had so many great users with so much potential. While we lost a lot of players, as all draft classes are going to have, we also have a developed a lot of well known league wide guys. We have multiple GMs across multiple teams in both the ISFL and the DSFL. Plus we have quite a few guys helping out with league jobs across all the different areas of the league. In the end, it is still a historic class. One of the best, hands down. RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - itztimg - 09-01-2021 Task 6: Aight, we need to have a serious talk about how the league is. Like, why the hell haven't we had expansion yet? Like...how? Now, I could have chosen task 13, but I decided not to so I could talk about it as a whole. So, expansion. For those unfamiliar with the term in regards to sports, it is essentially creating new teams and/or new divisions in the league to help balance out player flux and change things up. A big example of this is the 1997 MLB expansion which saw the creation of the Arizona Diamondbacks (a utterly garbage team) and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, now shortened to Rays (a lot better team than the D-backs, fite me. But hey, at least it's not the Rangers). The PBE and the SCSFL, both leagues that I'm a part of in addition to the ISFL, have expanded considerably. The PBE had a few expansion teams, including the Detroit Demons, the New Orleans Rougarous, and the Brew City Bears. I've been on two of the expansion teams, one of which I was very close to being a part of the World Series team. We got beat out in Game 7 of the Championship series due to a bullpen implosion. I am a inaugural member of the Barcelona Nightmares in the SCSFL, and even threw the very first franchise touchdown, which was a huge deal for me and the team itself due to its significance to our team's history. Why expansion in regards to the ISFL? There are a number of reasons, including increased teams, increased player influx (ie bringing new players in, thereby increasing the league's popularity, therefore making the ISFL more mainstream.) It would also allow for more GMs, which in turn would give more members to management and head office, which in turn would, again, help the league considerably. Another reason would be to create more league jobs, which would have players make more sim money, which would again, help the league. I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this. So in other words, all this is to help the league. But you may be asking, why? Why is it important to help the league by expanding? Simply put, by helping the league, we help its players, its GMs, its Head Office, everything, top to bottom, we help them. More help equals more league jobs which equals more job openings which equals more money for training and TPE. In other words, we'd be creating more opportunities for league investment and to make things a lot more fun around the league as a whole. Now, for the semantics. How would we go about doing this? Simply put, do it like we do in the PBE. Have job openings for expansion teams. In the PBE, we do it every few seasons, barring something preventing us from doing so (for example, right now we've run into huge cap issues, otherwise I'd be in the process of creating the Boston Rebels). The process is simple. We post a job opening on our forums and people apply. We ask some basic questions (won't go into them here, pretty sure I'm not supposed to), and then, just like any other league job (or job irl), we hire good candidates. Take my Boston Rebels example. I could just wing the application and interview process and hope for the best. But if I could come prepared with information already in hand that I would need anyways, it would definitely help my case. The Rebels would then have an expansion draft, and then draft rookies in the next draft. And it can be for DSFL OR ISFL. For example, in the PBE, we have expansion teams in both the Minors and the Majors. I know I've gone on for a while now, but allow me to say just a few more things. First off, I do understand that getting things ready for expansion take time. However, a vast majority of the community has been asking for it for quite some time now. As I've stated before, having team expansions would greatly increase player retention and influx. Again, it would also create more league jobs for those who desire them. I'm not typing this up just for the free 10 TPE. I'm writing this up because user retention for me is a pretty big deal, and I personally would expand when time permits so that the userbase can feel like they have a say. We already have voting on summits, and there is a clear line of communication, which is amazing. But if we can create more league jobs, more money opportunities, and allow more people to become involved in the league? That's what separates a decent league from an amazing league, and it's something I want the ISFL to be. Right now, it can be so much more. Obviously, I'm just guy. I'm not a GM, or a member of HO. Nor do I even have a league job. But I truly would like to see more job opportunities and room for advancement in the league. Code: 850 words. That took too long to write. |
