(S22) - PT3 - Boom or Bust - Exilizer - 05-17-2020 There is no bigger bust in NSFL history than the current player of our very own commissioner, Marcella Toriki. At face value you would look at her accomplishments and see that she is currently one of the better running backs in the league and has done very well over the years. So why was the pick a bust? It has nothing to do with the competencies of the player, not the personality of the user. No, instead it is a laughable example of how not to draft 101, or in this case how not to draft 1.05. The Sabercats used their first round pick on Toriki, a player who clearly had no intentions of staying long term if things didn't go well. I am not sure what went wrong in scouting, or in their assessment of Toriki, as well as in the first season but I am sure that things did not go according to plan. If anything, your first round pick asking for a 2nd year player option on their contract has to be a huge red flag, and something a GM should never agree to. The only likely result is a huge waste of draft capital, and this is exactly what happened here. Toriki was one and done with the Sabercats. A total shambles, and criminal mismanagement by the San Jose front office. 223 words (S22) - PT3 - Boom or Bust - Jmac NCheese - 05-17-2020 A nice list of players someone had posted to help out the helpless, noobie players like myself who only just join. The list seems to be a decent list and I imagine there is a lot but there were a good number of noticeable ones. The one that I will choose for being the biggest bust, would be Philadelphia Liberty selecting Lucari Felix (cornerback) as the 3rd overall pick of the Season 10 draft. I believe this too be a bust because that is a very high draft pick for someone to virtually go inactive shortly after. He showed a lot of talent and seemed that many people had wanted to draft him and was even taken in the early 2nd round of their DSFL Draft. They had a good first year in the DSFL for the Portland Pythons, and looked to be promising in earning TPE, which is why Liberty went and selected them 3rd overall. Philly thought they had their guy of the future and shore up their cornerback position, but it backfired and they are still struggling in the cornerback department, did Felix scare Philly of drafting another corner for a high pick? From what I also read, there was a cornerback that was drafted way later and had a great career and was even a Probowler! So, that is why I consider Lucari Felix one of the biggest bust in NSFL history. ![]() ![]() (S22) - PT3 - Boom or Bust - ckroyal92 - 05-17-2020 Biggest bust of all-time? I have to say I'm glad this PT is here & not PBE because I've had a lot of bad ones over there. I do have one in mind here that I'm not going to say was necessarily the worst ever, but we certainly could've done better. Back in Season 1, my partner @Perkules & I were 100% in agreement over who we wanted to take with our 1st round pick. His name was Alexander Selich, controlled by user @Tomen. At the time, he was hyper active in SHL; head updater, GM, the whole 9 yards. Seems like a slam dunk, right? Especially as a linebacker to quarterback our defense alongside my first player, Ja Brill. Alas, things didn't quite unfold like we'd hoped they would but I can't blame him at all & I actually feel a little bad about labeling him a "bust" because of what forced him to go inactive. I will say that I'm glad I was eventually able to find out what happened because it was far too "out of the blue" for him to disappear like he did, especially under normal circumstances. I'm sure many people already know the story so I'll spare you the details, but I'm glad he's okay & came back to our little corner of the internet. Picking Toriki was a no brainer for the Sabercats, with her user Bex being one of the most active rookies in the entire league and eventual league commissioner, and she was set to become a huge part of their team both on and off the field. But it didn’t last. No one was ever convicted (because the evidence was deleted) but it’s basically a known fact at this point that Toriki was tampered by the New Orleans Second Line after only one year in her rookie contract. The reasoning may never be known, but having your first round star running back abandon your team after only one season in the pros is a devastating loss for the Sabercats. Regardless of how well Toriki’s career plays out outside of New Orleans, she qualifies as a massive draft bust because of the wasted draft capital and opportunity cost that undoubtedly set back San Jose’s rebuild. (S22) - PT3 - Boom or Bust - timeconsumer - 05-17-2020 Okay this is a very interesting one. I'd say the worst draft pick of all time would have to be Kevin Fitzpatrick. It wasn't necessarily when he was drafted that was the problem is was just the repurcussions of trying to build a team around a guy that was likely going to do exactly what he did and disappear. Kolbe had retired and recreated shortly after freaking out as philly's gm and blowing up the entire team then leaving them without a GM. Okay that's not a massive big deal but then to recreate as a quarterback right after and you think this is the guy you want for your team's future? Interesting. So while he's there he does a great job in earning TPE and stuff, but he drove his GM absolutely bonkers with bothering him about losses and bad stats and stuff. Poor Run went nuts everytime it happened. Then combine it with the fact that he did end up quitting the game after feeling like HO was out to get him and you have a team left with no QB that had done some building around being competitive in his window. And he didn't even go inactive, he just retired so his team couldn't even have a bridge of a QB for a season or two. Yeah so I'd have to say Kevin Fitzpatrick is the worst draft pick of all time and we should punish that fucker. (S22) - PT3 - Boom or Bust - FurFurFurson - 05-17-2020 With the first ever pick in the history of the Nation Simulation Football League, the Orange County Otters selected J.J. Reigns, a defensive lineman out of the University of Wisconsin. Now, with a first overall pick comes a lot of expectations. Years upon years of production, being a valuable piece in championship-caliber teams, and, ultimately, Hall of Fame election. So far, only three number one overall picks have been elected to the Hall of Fame, but that does not mean that teams do not expect that level of production from their top picks. Moreso, with the first ever pick in the history of the league. J.J. Reigns was not the worst by any of these metrics. Reigns played for 7 seasons - 4 with the Otters, 2 with the Yeti, and 1 with the Second Line. He was elected to the S1 Pro Bowl. He put up solid number as a DT in his first year with the Otters, and had a good first season with the Yeti as a WR and did decently with the Second Line. However, each of these good seasons were followed by declining years. Reigns only accrued 168 TPE, going inactive after a short time. He did not produce to the hopes of the Otters at the time they drafted him. The Otters traded Reigns after S4 to the Yeti for Thomas Mango, who was not a force to be reckoned with either. So, while Reigns was not the worst player ever, he was a bust, especially for being the #1 overall pick in the history of the NSFL. (S22) - PT3 - Boom or Bust - SouljaBoy2007 - 05-17-2020 While not maybe not the outright worst draft pick of all time, Thudd Kassel has a great argument for the most disappointing. Coming out of the most loaded draft class at the time, Kassel was a super active player at the linebacker position which is always at a premium. Beloved by the S18 class, Kassel shot up draft boards as a solid earner and was a goofy fun guy to have around. He was also a GM in the DSFL and was respected by veterans and rookies alike. All of these factors led to Kassel going in the first round of the NSFL draft to a Second Line squad who was ecstatic to have nabbed their guy. Thudd was traded to Philadelphia after just one season in NOLA, but he fetched some great assets for NOLA in terms of draft value. Unfortunately for his new team, his one pro bowl appearance would be the peak of what he was going to do. It turned out, that lovable presence that he brought to rookie discord was not who he really was. After not even 3 seasons in the league, Thudd Kassel was banned for life from the league due to harassment and personal attacks. This punishment hurt Philadelphia in a manner that was completely unforeseen and for that reason, Thudd Kassel is one of, if not the biggest draft bust in NSFL history. |
