(S23) - PT2 - Draft Day - DatSmolBoi - 06-28-2020

The day was April 17th. I woke up, brushed my teeth and did all my stuff in the morning until I realized...today is draft day. I have been waiting for this day my whole entire career and now I can finally witness who I will get drafted to in the NSFL. Oh yeah and I can also finally have a draft sig Smile

For the draft I honestly didn't care who would draft me. I didn't even know who wanted to draft me or had me on their draft board, I just wanted to be on a NSFL team. I knew I wasn't the best wide receiver available (I was probably the worst receiver there with 75 TPE) and I knew I was going to get drafted really late.

The draft begins, my teammates such as Tatsu Nakamuara and Tyler Oles get picked early in the draft as I am still waiting for my name to be called. My excitement level was still going threw the roof as I was feeling this draft hype. It was round 9 of the draft and I was still on my couch waiting to be picked. On pick 12 of the ninth round, I got a call. It was Isa from NOLA. They called me and said if I wanted to be on their team. Out of excitement, I obviously said yes. I was so stoked to be on there that I went in the locker room and chatted for a little bit. For a ninth round selection, I don't think I failed to disappoint.

The draft was a very fun time for me personally. Being a late joiner in S17 class didn't help much and being there with Ennis, , Thumper, Owens, Saba, Brack and some others definitely put me behind as well. leading up to the draft I wasn't expecting to go high but had heard that I could be a first round pick so of course my hopes started getting a little high.
Draft day arrives and I'm excited and nervous. It begins, Ashley Owens, Bubba Thumper, Brayden Ennis, Brack, Saba some others that I'm not quite sure even still play. I'm looking like Aaron Rodgers when he slipped. All alone in the room and getting more pissed off by the minute.
Second round arrives and finally I'm called. I go on stage and meet the Second Lines towel boy along with the commissioners dog who gave me my jersey. Hopefully they somewhat respect us second rounders now and let the deputy commissioner present the jersey.
I will say that waiting alone in that room definitely put a huge chip on my shoulder and I believe I've done as well as or better than expected. 3 time pro bowler, 5000+ yds 25+ touchdowns. That's a solid career for a second rounders that had no idea how long he would be around. Being on the Wraiths this season will hopefully allow Action to walk off the field with a ring to show for all the hard work.

To be honest, when I was drafted into the Developmental Simulation Football League I had very little knowledge of the teams and the working behind the scenes, so I will write something about the Season 22 National Simulation Football League draft when I was picked in the fifth round, 49th overall by the Honolulu Hahalua. All teams but two had talked to me before the draft and there was one more that did talk to me but didn't seem very interested, so I had at least some clue where I would not end up, but to be honest I expected to be picked up by another team. Don‘t get me wrong, I love my fellow Rays and couldn't be happier that I was drafted by the that I was, just that I was getting some different signals before the draft.
Anyway, I was drafted at about the spot that I expected. Wide receiver wasn't a huge need for many teams and there were better options on the board for the teams who were looking for a receiver. I was the fifth receiver taken in the draft, which I think is still pretty good. Now I‘m a competitive guy so I usually check my stats after game days and compare them to the other wide receivers drafted in the same year and… let‘s not talk about that right now. But I know I can still improve, I have years of quality play ahead of me and I know once the experts do a re-draft in ten years time, they will talk about me as a great player.

Benoit missed the DSFL and was placed on waivers. That in itself was a riveting experience as the waiting game was killer, but the result was so exceptionally fun. Because of this, Benoit only got to experience the NSFL draft but thankfully it made him very happy and was also, a super exciting experience for the youngster who really didn't have much to say during draft day.

In the third round, Arizona would take a shot on Benoit, with the premise that he would be switching positions which they had discussed pre-draft. Blanco felt the team was a great fit from the beginning, the locker room was very accepting, he had some Norfolk friends to join him on the journey and as a very odd situation would occur with the team, for his agent at least.

Blanco learned that shortly after he was drafted by Arizona, his agent ended up becoming the co-gm of the team. It was a very weird scenario but one that kind of just presented itself when he joined. With this information Blanco is now more motivated then ever for this team to succeed and will help in every front possible. We did receive this quote:

"Every day is a new day, and today I was blessed. The draft was exceptional, the experience was one of a kind and this day will forever be cherished by myself, by my family. Not everyday do you see a French, black man get drafted, but today was a different story. I am just happy that I had everyone I loved supporting me, happy for me, and cherishing this moment with me. If it wasn't for them, I would not have felt confident in succeeding, or even be the person I am today. Thank you all, and lets goooooo Arizona!"

Heading into the S22 NSFL Draft, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. As part of the largest draft class in NSFL history, I really had no idea where or when I would be drafted. I had a solid TPE total, being fairly close to the leaders in the draft class in that regard. However, there were a whole lot of other players that also had solid TPE totals. On the other side of the equation, I was not nearly as active as many other players. I was not active on discord, and was on vacation for a couple weeks leading up to the draft. On top of this, I was a cornerback, which just happened to be the deepest position in the draft. After being selected 57th overall in the S21 DSFL Draft, I was really just hoping to improve on that draft position. I had had good interviews with quite a few teams, so I was fairly confident that that would happen. As the draft began, I watched cornerbacks fly off the boards, as 6 of the first 16 picks were used to take a cornerback. A handful of picks later, I was finally selected by the Baltimore Hawks at number 27 overall. I was pumped! The Hawks had a lot of youth on the team, and gave me a lot of reason for optimism. To top it all off, I was joined in Baltimore by a few of my London Royals teammates, in Ben Stackinpaper, Nick Kaepercolin, and Derred De Ville.

The draft i am choosing to focus on is the S22 DSFL draft, aka the first draft i was a part of. The wait for the draft was done tantalizing and full of anticipation, especially after catching some of the NSFL draft days before. When it was time, I joined a draft voice chat party (who oddly wanted me to mute my mic. Whatever they feel comfortable with i guess) and waited to be drafted. I waited for a little bit for me to be picked at the top of the third round by the London Royals, though not as long as waiting until the middle of the 4th round like I did for the NSFL draft.

I was a bit surprised to be picked by London because I hadn't had as much interaction with them as I have had with other DSFL teams, though I will never regret my time in London. After I was picked, they let me in the sealed off parts of their locker room and I left the other locker rooms so my notifications weren't clogged with the other teams messages. They all said thier well wishes and I was welcomed into London with open arms. I was definitely in for a wild ride, but I will definitely say my first draft was fun.
