Not many of the people in the NSFL know about me but I have a vastly expansive history in sim leagues. I have been in sim leagues since 2004 and there has only been a couple of leagues that I was in that I was never a GM at one point in time. Heck, even in the NSFL I had a stint as GM of the Philadelphia Liberty for a couple season with BW. The one thing I have never done though was take over an expansion team. I have always been a GM from the start of the league or have taken over an already league established franchise. So hearkening back to my experience starting a franchise in a new league I tend to go for teams in the Seattle area. That influence is still in two leagues that stand today in the SBA with the Mercer Island Knights and the EFL with the Seattle Predators. If I got an expansion team here I think I would stick to the same theme and go for a Washington State based franchise. I would not go with Seattle as I have done that already so I think I might stick to my hometown of Auburn. I would likely go with something that is also in line with my heritage, Native American, and name the team the Auburn Sockeye. I know this has been a name tossed around for the NHL expansion team but I doubt it will get picked. The Auburn Sockeye would be red, black, and white and be a symbol of stoic excellence. We would make a proud franchise and the people of Auburn and surrounding cities would come out in droves to support the new franchise.

If I were to create an expansion franchise in the NSFL, I would create the Djibouti Jackals. Most teams in the league are located in the United States, which makes sense, but given that the league doesn't actually exist, I thought it would be nice to push the boundaries of where teams can be located. And, since there isn't currently a franchise based on the African continent, I think it would be a great place for the league to expand to, both from a financial and a franchise standpoint. There are millions of potential fans in the area who would likely jump onto a new team, one that could quickly develop one of the most devoted fan bases in the league. As for the team name, Jackals, I chose something that fits with the location and provides that signature ferocity and intimidation factor needed for professional sports teams mascot. Jackals are also somewhat unknown in the animal world, so they fit the theme of teams having diverse and creative mascots as well. Lastly, Jackals are known to hunt at live in packs, which fits well with the tight-knit brotherhood found in NSFL franchises. Overall I think the Djibouti Jackals would be a perfect team for the NSFL, and I hope that HO understands the growth and success that would come from the Jackals creation.

I am now an experienced simulation football league participant. I have some sim testing under my belt, some knowledge about how the different departments work, and am liked by all. As such, I am going to take the next logical step and become a general manager of an expansion team. I have a real mind for simulation football and know that within just a couple seasons we would go from the new, scrappy, spooky kids on the block to a bona fide title contender. This team would be a dynasty from the jump. That’s right, I’m talking about my brand NSFL expansion franchise, the Mississippi Minerals. Bright teal jerseys with black, white, and gold accents frame the titular diamond logo, bringing local pride and excitement to a traditionally unfertile location for professional sports teams. The mascot, Eliezer the Excavator, runs around giving out rock candy to the children in attendance and delivers old timey wisdom about superstitions, mineral mining, and his distrust of minorities. On the field, all players are actually wearing mouthpieces studded with real precious gemstones including diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, and all cleats have 24 karat gold spikes that are polished before every game. This is a team that is excited to be on the field, and their excitement is equally matched by the fans. The Mississippi minerals will win it all.

When it comes to an expansion team there are a couple of things that are important. First you need a fan base. You need to choose a place where there will be following from Day 1. Next you need to make sure it is a location that excites potential players. Finally, it needs to be a place that shows significance. To me there is no better place for that than Daytona Beach, Florida. My dream expansion team would be known as the Daytona Beach Speedsters. A name that derives from the history of automobile racing in Daytona. Daytona Beach would offer a fan base that is willing to sit and watch cars make four left turns for almost four hours, so you know something like football would capture and keep their attention. The name will also tie in the history of that NASCAR has in the area and will elevate the team in the area. Another reason Daytona Beach is a great choice for the expansion is they will have an instant rival in the Sarasota Sailfish. Games between these two teams will be classics and garner plenty of attention from the whole country. All these reasons put together shows why Daytona Beach would be a great expansion team. They have the name, the fan base, and the location. What more could you ask for?
