While I know DSFL records are often overshadowed by ISFL ones, I feel that there is one which will stand for many seasons to come (never say never though). In season 24 of the DSFL, Kansas City Coyotes tackle Clay Stallworth broke two DSFL records; most pancakes in a game with 13 and most pancakes in a season with 71. Given the sometimes large skill gaps between players in the DSFL, I could see the single-game pancake record being broken. However, Stallwroth's 71 pancakes in a season record is one I do not expect to be broken any time soon.

One reason this record will last is due to the composition of the Kansas City offensive line last season. The season 24 coyotes had zero bot players on their offensive line, a feat which might be a record on it's own. Human offensive line players have advantages over bots in that the tackle positions can be heavier (which aids in blocking), as well as the fact that they generally earn more TPE per update than GM bots would. This led to the group having a higher than average TPE as compared to other offensive lines across the DSFL, and in turn most likely increased pancake blocks.

Another reason I feel that his record will never be broken is due simply to the sheer luck involved. Not to discredit Clay Stallworth and his player build, but he may have come out on the better end of of many blocking calculations the sim does. Each play there is a chance of a pancake block occurring, and Stallworth simply seemed to come out on top more than half the time. One final reason is simply the distance between him and the next person, which is 2 pancake blocks. Meaning, for someone to break it, they would need to get 3 more than second place. To me, this just does not seem feasible in any reasonable amount of time.

Leo Bloomfield will become kicker of the year. Out of the eight kickers in the DSFL, Bloomfield had the longest kicks and the largest number of successful kicks. These are my current rankings of kickers:
1. Leo Bloomfield
While Bloomfield didn't have the highest field goal success rate, he still had both the most field goal attempts and the most field goals made. He scored 2 field goals from 30-39 yards and 2 from 40-49 yards, although he still missed 1 from 30-39 yards. He also had the longest field goal at 47 yards.
2. Something McDerpants
McDerpants was the best kicker in the DSFL in week 1 when he scored 2 field goals from 40-49 yards and 1 from 20-29 yards. He had the second longest field goal, coming in at only 1 yard shorter than Bloomfield's longest, at 46 yards.
3. Merry Catmas
Catmas may not have had the highest field goal success rate, but still had more field goals from a longer distance. Catmas got 2 out of his 3 field goal attempts, all of which were in the 30-39 yard range.
4. Gluteus Maximus
Maximus was one of the 3 kickers in the DSFL to get a 100% success rate on all of his kicks in week 1, but only kicked twice. One of his kicks was from the 30-39 yard line, while his other was from the 20-29 yard line.
5. Bot Bilbo
Bilbo got all of his kicks in week 1, but only kicked one field goal, which was from 30-39 yards. He also had the third longest kick in the DSFL, with 39 yards.
6. Matty McMVP
Even though McMVP didn't kick any field goals, he still didn't do as bad as the other kickers.
7. Deceased Guava-Fresca
Guava-Fresca kicked the only field goal in week 1 from 50+ yards, but missed it.
8. Launchpad Buttowski
Buttowski kicked 3 field goals, but missed all of them. 2 of these kicks were from 40-49 yards, while the other was from only 20-29 yards.

Pro-Bowl voting should be given to the community and not just limited to GMs. It’s been proven time and time again that most GMs just don’t have the time to care about the Pro-Bowl. There is an intense amount of understanding that is needed to be a good Pro-Bowl Voter. Not just understanding the statistics, but there needs to be an ability to process that into meaning. On a division specific level makes the challenge even tougher. Several GMs have admitted that they don’t even look at the index when voting for Pro-Bowl. That means they’re just looking for names they recognize.

You could argue that GMs are some of the most educated folk in are league – on our league. But it would be a hard sell for me. In the past, Pro-Bowl voting had been made open. But some odd fan-favourite results swayed the league to restrict voting to just GMs. I can’t guarantee that it won’t happen again. Actually it probably will happen if we open it up to the public. But I’m suggesting something a little different.

I think that Pro-Bowl Voting should be given to a Pro-Bowl Committee. The Awards Committee already exists – though they only decide who ends up on the Ballot and not the winners. A similar committee should be established made of members of our community who sole purpose is to select the Pro-Bowlers of the season.

Is Mathias Hanyadi a Hall of Famer? There's certainly some points in that camp, but there are plenty of points against him as well. And it's going to be a question that comes up once he retires. One of the biggest issues he has is that in terms of yardage and scoring, he just doesn't measure up all that well against guys still in the league, such as Sam Torenson and Forrest Gump. Hell, one of his fellow S18 draftees, Marcella Toriki, beats him out in the yards from scrimmage race and it's a gap he's unable to close, especially now near the end of his career. Sure, he's had great seasons, but one could argue his best seasons are only above average when looking at some of the players ahead of him in the career totals. Of course, unlike many of the players on that list, Hanyadi missed a season due to Yellowknife still having Marshall and Canton on the team for one more season. Now, of course, there are a lot of negatives, but simply put, Hanyadi is arguably the most decorated running back of the modern era. An MVP, two OPoTYs, three RBoTYs, OPERoTY, and five pro bowls. He may not be a complete stat sheet stuffer like, say, Marquise Brown, but he certainly has the hardware to back him up. He also recently won his first Ultimus Bowl, crushing the Copperheads in the run game. Is he a Hall of Famer? Maybe, we shall see soon enough.

I think quarterback archetypes - in particular, the game manager archetype - need to be tweaked. Maybe the talk of a new sim will materialise and we'll move to Draft Day Sports Pro Football 21 or another, better football game not made by Wolverine. But if we don't, I think that some changes need to be made.

I'm going to focus this PT on my quarterback, the blazing stallion that is Brock Phoenix. Brock Phoenix has 1166 TPE as of his 3/10/20 update, which makes him the second-highest TPE quarterback and the seventh-highest TPE player in the entire league. If you've watched Phoenix or the Liberty over the course of Brock's career, you'll know that he has never played like the second-best quarterback in the league. Not even close. Until Brock Phoenix changed his archetype late last season, Brock Phoenix was a pocket passer. Phoenix was 10th of 12 QBs in passer rating last season, and threw the fewest number of touchdown passes with just 15. In S23 Phoenix was above average, finishing 5th of 12 in passer rating. 7th of 13 in S22, and 10th of 10 in S21. He's also been one of the least accurate quarterbacks, consistently finishing bottom or towards the bottom in completion percentage.

Through four games of S25, Phoenix is lighting it up. Now that he has worse throwing stats and 79 speed, he leads the ISFL in touchdown passes with 9 and is second in passer rating with 89.9, almost ten points higher than any season he's played previously. We all know that the sim is broken, and that the sim is dumb. But the fact that a quarterback becomes vastly better at throwing the ball when you switch to an archetype with worse throwing stats is absurd. Either the other archetypes need to be changed, or game manager needs to be changed. Currently, there's no reason to use an archetype other than game manager unless you'd rather do something different than increase your chances of winning.

I believe the Sarasota Sailfish will win the Ultimus Championship this season. For starters, the Sailfish went 12-4 last season, good for second best in their division. The only reason their incredible season went somewhat unnoticed is because of the even more remarkable 14-2 season the Colorado Yeti had. Now though, the Sailfish have had another offseason to work on improving the team, and they've certainly done that. Almost all of their players, other than their two expansion draft losses, Clark Boyd and Eric Richards, are returning with inflated TPE counts. They have the reigning offensive player of the year at quarterback, a 1000 TPE running back, multiple 800+ TPE receivers, an 800+ TPE tight end, the DSFL record holder for both pancakes in a game and a season, a new 800+ TPE safety, 2 800+ linebackers, the back to back DToTY, S23's defensive player of the year, a 1000 TPE safety, and a very solid cornerback group. Not to mention the best kicker/punter in the ISFL. The Sailfish also have some of the best sim testers around in Frost, sakrosankt, and abh, who will give the team the edge in most of their matchups. Despite being in a stacked conference alongside 2 of the top 4 total TPE teams in the league, I think the Sailfish will have a great year all around and bring their first championship trophy home.
