For Christmas this year, Greedy Sly debated on asking for several different gifts at the teams annual Secret Santa event. Eventually, he settled on something he had wanted ever since he had been a young child growing up in the potato fields of northern Maine. As a child Greedys family had a tradition every Christmas they would gather together around the families television and watch their favorite Christmas movie, A Christmas Story. This classic story of young Ralphie pursuing his want for a BB gun, led Greedy on a lifelong pursuit for one of his own, so when asked by the team what he wanted for Christmas he replied: “I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle.”

One major issue with this request however…. The star linebacker for the Colorado Yeti, Melvin Murder Moose had pulled Greedy’s name for the Secret santa event. Moose, a staunch defender of gun laws in the states for what would seemingly be obvious reasons was torn on what to do given the nature of the request. After much debate and a little bit of soul searching on the matter, Moose decided to move forward and go ahead and purchase the BB gun for Greedy, with the understanding that it would only ever be used as a show piece. Greedy agreed upon opening it, and was thrilled to have his lifetime dream fulfilled.

It seems like I got a package. A holiday gift from someone. Someone remembered me! I mean who wouldn't? We are the only meaningful football players in Berlin, everyone loves us. But that seems to be from someone in the league. There are so many things in here. Let's see the first one. It looks like a football. At least the shape resembles a football. It IS a football. But something is written on it. "You wouldn't have dropped it if you had a better pair of gloves". It was the touchdown pass ball I dropped in the Chicago game, last week. The Butchers wanted to throw some shade, perhaps still salty we beat them in Chicago. I'd take it if we had lost the game, but I dropped a touchdown pass, with 2:45 left on the game, with us up by 8 at that point. But whatever makes them feel better. I would react the same after a loss. There is also a brand new pair of gloves in here. I guess they really do care about me. Or they are trying to tamper me to join their team in free agency (In case you didn't understand, this is a joke, I haven't been tampered, it seems that nobody likes me enough to tamper me). Anyway, there is also tickets to a home Chicago playoff game. I guess delusion is a trait in Chicago... It is what it is. Happy Holidays!

The most wonderful time of the year doesn’t skip over the Boss Jr. household, make no mistake about it. Recently there was a package delivered to the house, but they didn’t include any note or any return address. A lot of athletes might think twice before opening mail like this, just in case there ends up being another Anthrax incident, I don’t want to be Tom Brokaw. I opened the box up and it's an old pair of cleats. They’re used and looked like they were not of my time, at least a couple of decades older. I posted on social media my gift from this mysterious gift-giver, and one thing was clear: people agreed these cleats were old and goofy looking—but nobody had any real hints on who could’ve sent me the package. Nobody on the team fessed up to it. I had nearly given up on it until I got a call from my dad.

“What psychopath got a hold of those cleats and sent them to you? Junior, those were the cleats I wore in my first game of organized football I ever played when I was 9 years old. Those are quite the collector's item.”

That’s when it hit me—the gift giver had been identified thanks to the help of my dad, boy I really can’t do ANYTHING without that guy. The gift-giver is Tre’Darius J’Vathon, he is the biggest memorabilia aficionado that I know, of course, he would be able to find my dad’s cleats from when he was 9. I hope he enjoys the gift card I sent him. [267 words]

Ding dong. I hear the doorbell ring. Ding dong. I quickly run down the stairs. I had been expecting a shipment of protein shakes as I had just about run out. I open the door and there is no delivery driver. Just a large red package, with a tag that read “To Gary, you DESERVE this!” There was no from written on the tag. Perhaps I had a secret admirer! I proceeded to grab the very large ribbon but just before I yanked on it. I hesitated… I had recently heard of some of my fellow ISFL players receiving prank gifts. A confetti bomb… a goat dressed as a tank… season tickets to the Hahalua.

I took some time to and finally decided I better open the gift. I mean really, how bad could it be? It was Christmas after all. I opened the package and out poured package after package of Almond Joys. I instantly gritted my teeth. How dare Ernest Lover do this to me? Almond Joys are a bane in the candy universe but as I moved my eyes from the ground full of Almond Joys, I noticed a large glass jar in the center of the package. The glass jar was filled to the brim with one of the worst things imaginable… candy corn. It was a tag team effort with Peter Patterson.

They knew I would never eat this candy in a million years, but I know someone who might. I called up my good buddy Doy Fieri and gave him the jar of candy corn and I donated the Almondy Joys to the local homeless shelter as a holiday treat for those less fortunate.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Richard Gilbert woke up Christmas morning to find a mysterious envelope outside the door of his Denver home. Despite being a decently sized box, it was extremely light, to the point where he believed it may just be empty. Furthermore, there was no identifying information on it. No return address, no labeling on the package, nothing to that effect. Just a sealed, white envelope sitting on his front porch. Curious, Gilbert brought the package inside and gently tore the envelope open. Despite initially believing the package was empty, instead was a single pamphlet, bearing the insignia of the International Simulation Football League. The letter inside spoke of sweeping changes coming to the league, and something called DDSPF 21 that would change the way football would be played as we know it. Players would be smarter, faster, and generally more athletic at every position. Scanning through the pamphlet, it seemed that it was broken out into sections position by position and what could be expected with the changes coming to the league. Skipping ahead to the running back  section of the pamphlet, Gilbert felt his breath catch as his excitement began to rise. While the ISFL had typically been a “speed kills” kind of league up to this point, Gilbert had refused to conform, preferring to run through people rather than around them. The pamphlet promised that the new changes would empower big backs like him to contend with the smaller, speedier guys. Finally, Richard Gilbert felt a glimmer of hope that he may still be able to put together a memorable season as one of the top backs in the league.
