The NSFL’s 22nd season is now coming to a close. Franklin Armstrong continues to do Armstrong things. He didn’t do as well as his previous three MVP seasons but he had a solid season all the same. He has made the playoffs every season of his career and is looking forward to another chance at a championship. The Otters finished 10-3 for the 2nd straight year as they face the Austin Copperheads who’ve had an excellent 2nd half of the season as they came out of nowhere to take the 2nd seed in the ASFC and one game away from the Ultimus. The Wraiths have been dominate once again, taking the league best record at 11-2 where they will face off against the Yeti. Armstrong is liking his chances to get that 4th ring but he will face some stiff competition to get there. Particularly if it’s another Wraiths vs Otters showdown. Armstrong has come out on top on both occasions, leading his team to resounding Ultimus victories. The Wraiths on the other hand have lose 4 straight Ultimus Championships. But they keep on fighting back and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them come out on top in the NSFC conference championship game and get to the Ultimus for the 5th straight season.

On a personal level, the playoffs have always gone one of two ways for me: missing the shindig entirely, or showing up as home favorites and losing the first game. This year it’ll be the former. Since the Honolulu Hahalua were slotted into the absolute bloodbath of a division that is the ASFC, and since our entire defense is composed of old ass men, Venus Powers will be spending her third NSFL off-season the same way as the first two, eating trashy food at home and hoping that awards season is a kinder arena. In terms of a more general level, I really think that this will finally be the year that the NSFC breaks its losing streak and sends a team home with the Ultimus. Austin has a ton of momentum, but they still started 2-4-1, and the Otters are such an evil team that it should break the laws of physics before they are allowed to get their ninth trophy. Yellowknife has a stacked team this year, and with Bigsby’s window closing rapidly, they really need to capitalize on their number one seed and close out this long period of regular season success with an Ultimus trophy. But if Colorado upsets them on the way to their first ever franchise title, I’m not sure anyone would be too heartbroken.

Unfortunately, Hingle McCringleberry will be watching the playoffs from his couch, eating popcorn! The Dallas Birddogs had a great season but ended up falling short on the last sim day and did not make it but will be ready for sure next year to make the long push for the Ultimini. I see the Luchadores coming out on top and taking the Ultimini trophy home, and not because they have the best record of the four playoff teams, but they have the team to win it all. They were not above .500 last year and almost took last in the southern conference, but with the first season under a lot of their players and a solid draft class, they crushed it this year. I could see the Grey Ducks being a dark horse, mainly because most believe that whoever wins between Tijuana Luchadores and Norfolk Seawolves will win it all, but I could see Minny handling London and then carrying that momentum into the finals and winning it all.

My pick though is still the Luchadores, but it should be a good game! If I were a betting man and had to put money down on what I think the scores would be for the semifinals, I say TIJ beats NOR 38-24 and MIN beats LON 26-3. Then the finals score between TIJ and MIN will be 20-16, and Tijuana Luchadores lifting the trophy and going to Disney World!

With the way the regular season played out, there's no doubt we had some surprises, to say the least. For starters, I think it was expected for the Orange County Otters to perform the way they did, or at least be towards the top of the ASFC. However, i'm not sure anyone expected the New Orleans Second Line to finish 3rd in their division, and definitely not at 8-5. However, the ASFC was significantly stronger than the NSFC so I can't say i'm overly surprised. Although, it's only fair to give an evalution of the NSFC, as I did for the ASFC. With that being the case i'm surprised Sarasota finished as strong as they did. Although it was sort of joked about that they would win 0 games, I do believe their intention was to tank at least some sort, and finishing 6-7 was probably not something they had drawn up. It makes sense to me that YKW finished at 11-2, as they're a solid team and someone had to dominate the lackluster division. With that out of the way, the team I see coming out on top and being Crowned S22 Ultimus Champions are the OCO Orange County Otters OCO. Mainly due to the fact that they've been there many times and have the team in place to accelerate them to a championship run. There's little doubt in my mind that it will come down to YKW vs OCO but I think OCO will end up on top. In terms of a darkhorse, I don't think anyone will give the two powerhouses in YKW and OCO any trouble, however if I had to pick i'd go with Austin, as again they do have a decently strong roster who could make a push for the Ultimus.

Playoffs?! You wanna talk about playoffs?! Honestly, the easy answer for me here would be that I couldn't give a furry rat's ass who wins in the NSFL playoffs, but that wouldn't go very far toward my required word count, so I guess I'll throw a little shade to get this done. Let's start with the ASFC because I've got plenty of shade to go around for these 3 piles of steaming cow excrement. Let's start at the bottom with those goons from the Big Sleezy. Sure, they swept the season series against us, but to say they deserved to get into the playoffs tells me you didn't watch them play. I firmly believe they threw their game against Austin just to keep us out of the playoffs because they're scared of us & no one's gonna convince me otherwise. Can't say I blame them because they should be scared, but they could've made it a little less obvious. I mean, come on, getting blown out at home with the QB throwing 3 picks in the process? I'd say I was glad they were eliminated in the Wild Card round, but that seems a bit redundant & I don't think Austin deserves to be there much, if any, more than NOLA did.

NSFL Playoffs:
This one is an easy predictor for me but I am definitely pulling for Yellowknife to win the championship. They have the most TPE in the league and ended the season with not only the best record, but also the best form of football the league has seen in a while. Yellowknife is a well oiled machine. To put it simply, they like to score touchdowns and as many points as possible. They've rented space in their end zone because they know they will be making frequent visits to it. I have heard them tell their kicker to take some games off because they plan to only go for two points every time to score even more points. This is the season that the Wraiths break their postseason curse and bring a championship back to the better conference.
DSFL Playoffs:
I have to pull for my Alma mater here and select the Luchadores to win in our developmental league. I really enjoy not only the way the Lucha come out every game to secure the win, but also how they act in their locker room. This is a team that not only feels they can win it all, but knows that they will win it all. The hype in their locker room is contagious and spreads out into the fans at the stadium with the Lucha ROAR! I am going to be a happy member of Lucha nation to see them hoisting up a Ultimini trophy!
