(S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - SwankyPants31 - 07-05-2020 As many people have pointed out both in this PT and in various discussions since I arrived here in February, the league has a heavy bias towards teams placed in North America. In fact, out of all 18 teams in the NSFL and DSFL combined the only teams not located in North America are the London Royals, who were only added in the previous round of expansion, and the Honolulu Hahalua, which while being geographically separate is politically considered a part of North America. Due to this fact, many people have been pushing for international expansions. I think their heads are in the right place, but I’d like to take it a step further. Introducing the Moon Knights, baby. All these other league members are living in the year 2020 looking to expand the league internationally, while I’m living in the year 3020 looking to expand our influence into the cosmos. I know what you might be thinking; “but Swanky, that would be called copyright infringement. Moon Knight is already established as one of the greatest Marvel heroes of all time!”. To which my response would be, there are no laws on the moon, so you can’t sue me. Piggybacking almost entirely off someone else’s ideas would make the Moon Knights an instant favorite and bring a previously untapped fandom into the NSFL. On top of that, just imagine how the reduction in gravity on the moon would fundamentally change the game. Space football is the future you cowards. And what better sport to add than one that most of the country knows nothing about? I joke, but this is exactly their kind of sport. Their soccer league gets lambasted for being too physical and barbaric. So, strap on some pads and helmets and get ready for the real barbaric sport of American Football. The Scots are going to love it. And where better for a team than Edinburgh? The rugby stadium is already an iconic part of the town, so making that a football stadium part time is easy as can be. As for a name, the obvious choice is the national animal of Scotland. This isn’t meant to be the simulated football team of just Edinburgh, but the nation as a whole, so the unicorn will proudly represent the group. The Edinburgh Unicorns will take the league by storm, drawing people in with their magnificent beauty, and then doing what real Unicorns do and stab them through the heart with the giant horn on top of their heads. Uniforms will be a red, green, and yellow tartan on the stripes of the trousers and socks. While that may not be something you see in the sim and it would look like just another red team, we know in our hearts it isn’t. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - MrStennett - 07-05-2020 I'd like to have another expansion team slipping the boundaries of North America and setting down roots in Europe. Allow me to introduce you to the Lisbon Armada. Based in Lisbon, Portugal, they would be the second team in NSFL history to be based outside of the continent of North America. (I know that Hawaii is technically part of the United States, but it's in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, so I'm giving them credit where it's due.) The Portuguese people have a long history of being seafaring traders and a powerful navy, leading us to the name Armada. I just like the idea of expanding the boundaries of our league, and if we can have a DSFL team in London (Go Royals!), we can certainly have an NSFL team in Portugal. Besides, Lisbon is an incredibly beautiful and historic city, making it a perfect backdrop for a day out at a football game. This would also hopefully help extend the popularity of American football to a new part of Europe, as places such as England and Germany already have been bitten by this bug. It seems like it would be a win-win all-around for me. Yes, I know people would be tired because of the long plane trip over the Atlantic, but if they get there a day ahead of time, they'll be able to work through the jet lag without problem. If you were in charge of creating an expansion franchise, what would you name it and where would the team be located? In 200 words or more, describe why you picked that name and location and explain why your franchise would make a good NSFL team. I would like for there to be a good team in San Jose for once in the NSFL's history. I think we could go classic and call it either the San Jose SaberCats2 or the San Jose OverAchieverCats. San Jose is in dire need of a good NSFL team , something that's sorely been lacking for years now it seems. In this fictional situation the team would of course be located in San Jose and I've already explained the name and really why the location was picked. What would we do any different from say a real life San Jose team? Well first of all we would try to win games but also manage to actually win them. We would have a consistent down period between seasons where we would go from strength to strength to a light rebuild when our players would age instead of being stuck in a perma rebuild situation but none of our players are smart enough to realise that we're a soulless dead husk of a team so we continue on our path of like 6 wins a season if we're lucky. This hypothetical team would use all it's might through valuable strategies such as DRAFT SCOUTING and SIM TESTING to achieve it's goals in winning some football games out there where it mattered instead of playing touch butt with a dork in the park. The San Jose OverAchieverCatz (z because it's cool) would be a good team and the strongest thing about us would not be our player who's cosplaying as the late great Mr BlackFace (rip SJJ) or our barely coherent twitter game. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Warner - 07-05-2020 If I had control of an expansion draft team, I would run it very well. I hold my own abilities as a franchise manager in the utmost regard. I would place this franchise in probably a city somewhere, and I would name it after something or someone or something else from the aforementioned city. We would probably be a very good team, perhaps the very best team in the aforementioned city’s history. Or at least, that’s what I hope for our new team. I would hire some people to help me out with the team, and we would choose the best players that we could in the expansion draft, and hopefully be happy with who we drafted. Then, I would hire some more guys to work on building the arena in the city, and hire some other guys for the draft. I would probably make them indentured servants, and not really pay them at all unless I get audited by whatever commission handles worker rights in the city. I would bust any unions that arise as well. Screw unions. Then, we would probably draft some good players or something. We would charge absurd prices for concessions and tickets at the arena, and would not pay the players anything at all. Hopefully we’d win a couple games or something, then win some more in the playoffs and win the championship or something. Then, I’d turn around and sell the team to the highest bidder, and let them deal with the debt, expectations, and federal investigations. That is how I would run an expansion team. Code: 263 words. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - JKortesi81 - 07-05-2020 If I was awarded an expansion team, there’s only one place I’d want to bring a team to: Buffalo. I’m from Buffalo, so this is a total homer pick, but that’s okay. The only other place I’d really want to put a team in New Orleans, but clearly that’s taken. I’d consider Las Vegas as well, but since we had the Legion, I wouldn’t want to cross any of that bad juju. The hardest part for me would be coming up with the team name. I personally love alliteration in my sports team names, so I’d more than likely lean towards a ‘B’ name. Maybe we just go crazy and call ourselves the Buffalo Buffaloes? That wouldn’t work. We could be the Bees. That could be fun! We’d have to steal the Hawks color scheme though. Perhaps if we were more Black and Yellow than Yellow and Black? Could always go the “tough guy” name route and be the Buffalo Brutes. That’s not a terrible name, I guess. I still think I like animal names the best though. The Buffalo Beavers would be incredibly fun of course for all the right reasons. Maybe even the Buffalo Boas, because we don’t have enough snake teams in the NSFL after all. Perhaps I’d have a league contest for the branding, that could really be fun too. There’s a few options. Let’s Go Buffalo! (232) (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - dieselj123 - 07-05-2020 PBE PT |
