RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - katarn22 - 02-14-2021 Ultimini/Ultimus week is one that everyone looks forward to. Not just the players but the fans as well. While normally the team with home field advantage hosts the game at their stadium, I think the ISFL could take a page from the NFL's book and hold the games at a neutral site (just ignore this year's Super Bowl). Now, you may be thinking which site would attract the highest number of people? I instead ask you to think about the opposite question: which site would draw the LEAST amount of people? The logic behind this is that only the most dedicated fans would really show up for the game. Those who truly wanted to be there and would sacrifice a lot to make it a reality. The answer my friends is the moon. The moon is arguably the most remote, yet still reachable location to have a game. With Elon Musk's SpaceX making advancement after advancement, it will not be long until private flights to the moon are offered. In fact, now that I am thinking about the logistics of this, maybe there wouldn't even be a game. Whichever team can get all of its players to the moon first can claim the championship. Secretly, this is the proverbial "foot in the door" into getting an ISFL expansion team on the moon. They would be called the Moon Knights and then we would have to think of another crazy location to host the Ultimini/Ultimus. RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - gbfn - 02-14-2021 I thhink the best for the ISFL would be if they decided to try something completely different for the Ultimus. If the league should continue to grow you have to make sure, that word about it spreads around. And what would be more effective than going to different places around the globe to promote the league than to play the Ultimus at new destinations where the league is not known that well. This would be the ideal chance to increase the interest of the local people. The first Ultimus should be hosted either in russia, moscow to be more accurate. I don't think that there are many players from russia in the league right now. And maybe somebody would be thinking, that should stay that way but i completely defer from that kind of thinking. The potential is huge. This is one of the greatest countries in the world with a huge population. For the half time show i would like to keep it traditional but local. I would try to get somebody from the host country to create an amazing show featuring local performers. In the case of playing in russia there would be local singers paired with dancers who perform amazing local traditional dances but with a modern twist. With that the spectators can learn a bit about all the different cultures of the world and the league would get promoted as a whole. RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - MrStennett - 02-14-2021 PBE PT Affiliation RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - j00 - 02-14-2021 The best host city for the Ultimini is obviously Tijuana so that we can follow in Tompa Bay's footsteps and win a championship at home. We can give out two free shots of Tequila at the door for every attendee over 18 so the crowd gets extra rowdy, so long as people DO NOT THROW CHAIRS INTO THE RING! Give everyone a pair of maracas (or just sell 'em for cheap) so they can be obnoxious vuvuzela style. We can bring out a classic mariachi band for the halftime show, hell they can just play all game long like bands at the high school/college levels. At halftime, we can have a pinata battle for a bunch of kids, like one of those "make this halftime court shot for $10k" things, but make it really massive, and the pinata is whatever our opponents are, so probably a giant snake or something, and the rest of the crowd can chant "BEAT! THAT! SNAKE! BEAT! THAT! SNAKE!" as the kids hit it. If that fails, then the next obvious spot would be New Mexico. The game day concessions will be the usual Mexican food, tacos, burritos, tortas, etc., but the customers who order it "Christmas Style", i.e. red and green chili at the same time, get a discount. We can keep the same mariachi band, why not? Everything else can be the same as above. If that fails, then the next best spot is Los Angeles, so that Juno Hu can play in his home city. Guaranteed good weather. Tons of tourist attractions such as traffic, smog, and homeless people. We can STILL KEEP THE MARIACHI BAND AND EVERYTHING ELSE! The savings! RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - huck24 - 02-14-2021 SHL affiliate RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - 37thchamber - 02-14-2021 Given the league's recent focus on the first word in its name -- International -- I'd consider it a good idea to move the Ultimus from the home stadium of the higher seed, to a neutral venue overseas, particularly if the location was somewhere the league's profile could be dramatically expanded by hosting such a major event. This would rule out places like London or Berlin, since the presence of an ISFL (or in London's case, ISFL-affiliate) team sort of precludes the opportunity for expanding the fanbase. Similarly, Tijuana -- and by extension, probably all of Mexico -- is out. Europe is a reasonable target in general though, with the sport enjoying a lot of popularity in the North and West of the continent in particular. Places like Amsterdam, Hamburg, or even Birmingham have been home to storied teams in the past, and would likely welcome the return of gridiron football. But, I would argue that a better option would be Asia. Specifically, Japan. Weebery among the league's fanbase aside, there are several Japanese nationals playing in the league, which means interest is already likely to be there. Japan -- and the whole of East Asia, really -- is a market untapped by the ISFL's largest competitor (you know, the *other* football league) which presents massive opportunity for growth. In addition, Tokyo is huge, so the market potential is immense. The city is also primed to host an Olympic games, which shows the infrastructure and organisational frameworks required for a major sporting event are already in place. Narita airport is also highly accessible, meaning home based fans wouldn't necessarily find it difficult to attend. The venue is a bit trickier, but the National Stadium, in Shinjuku fits the bill, with a slight makeover required on the field. Its location is also beneficial, since Shinjuku station is the largest and busiest terminal on the Tokyo metro network, making it the most accessible, and again, most suited for a large influx of people. There is also an opportunity for the Ultimus to coincide with Japan's National Foundng Day celebrations. Promotional material could easily draw on anime imagery common to Japanese campaigns -- like that seen for the Rugby World Cup in 2019, for example -- potentially drawing in new fans from an otherwise untapped market. So, if I'm in charge of the world here and can declare a fun location for the Ultimus, I'm going to pick New Zealand. I think it'd be a very fun shift, and would really celebrate the international nature of the league. You could have a ton of fun with the half-time show featuring New Zealander musicians and a traditional Maori Haka. I think it would be both a fun vacation for our Ultimus contenders and an excellent chance to bring other cultures to the forefront for the ISFL viewers at home. On the Ultimini front, I'm going to go with another very homer sort of pick. Bring the Ultimini to Minneapolis. We know that Minneapolitans are great at throwing a football party, and will give the incoming teams a warm welcome. Minneapolis is a wonderful midwestern city and offers a lot of great cultural experiences for those traveling to the games. As a city, Minneapolis also boasts a strong musical tradition, including playing a role in Lizzo's career. So let's get Lizzo, grab some grainbelt beer and thrive as we all celebrate our young Ultimini competitors. Code: 221 Words RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - PMoney - 02-14-2021 There’s one place every GM wants to see the Ultimus played at, their home stadium. The Frostlands was home to the most recent Ultimus but ideally we will see it there again this season. The Frostlands is an imposing stadium, forcing teams to travel many miles from their warmer climates down south up to the barren arctic with temperatures believed to be imaginary in Sarasota, but the fans are always well provided for. Given the history of Yellowknife, when the new stadium was built, comfort of the fans was a top priority. All seats are heated and while the pitch is open to the elements, the stands are well protected. The Ultimus décor from last season is still up from last season and aside from updating dates and the away team, it would be the environmentally friendly option to not have to redo an entire stadiums banners. The staff already know how to make the signature Ultimus drinks, the “Ice the Game” and “Frosted Cup” went down well with fans last season and would be a hit again this season. The half time show of “the wraiths from the lord of the rings” sadly will not be able to return, but we heard Miley Cyrus was interested. RE: (S27) PT2 - Host City - Tylus - 02-14-2021 I, myself, being one of the few people to watch this year's superbowl, have little inspiration to draw upon compared to most members of the International Simulation Football League. That being said, I do have a few decent ideas for an Ultimus location or two. A good location to field a championship game in ANY sport must have several things to bring to the table. These can be simple things like a large stadium, good highways, or even good restaurants and tourist attractions. You want many people to come, and having things be convenient as well as fun things to do is a major draw. With that in mind there are a few places that come to mind when thinking about a great location for the big game. I believe Jacksonville could be a great location for the Ultimus, for several reasons. First of all it has a large stadium with the biggest replay screens you can find in any stadium. The city has many attractions as well as a popular night scene, which will help to bring in many people. It would also be neutral ground in the ISFL, as there are no teams based in Jacksonville. The city hosted an NFL draft several years back, which helps to show that the city can handle a major spotlight. I believe Jacksonville would be the best spot. |
