I always have such a hard time identifying rivals in this league, because there aren't as many strongly established ones. It's the easy way out, but I suppose I'll say that the big Honolulu rival is our expansion counterpart, the Sarasota Sailfish. While we don't play each other very frequently, as teams that came into being at the same time, there's a certain level of competitiveness there that makes for a decent rivalry. So yes, we've just lost that season's Fish Bowl in overtime, which has got to sting. I think that Honolulu's got the right spirit for bouncing back, so despite the loss, the locker room is still somewhat jovial and positive. We find ourselves talking through the circles of "we'll get 'em next time" and turning sights to the next big game. Obviously we'll still throw a bit of banter in when chatting with the sailfish, but we're not going to let a single loss get us down. Raeni herself is very focused on the game, so once she can get her hands on the film to review things, she'll take meticulous notes so that next time, she can be just a little bit better. She always wants to try and make the difference for her guys out on the field.

At this point Chicago is so numb to wacky endings and losing close games that it doesn't even affect any of us like it should. Most of the time after games we're just trying to go over what happened to try and understand just why something like the offense doing a half back dive on 4th down while you are ahead and are also in side of your own 30 yard line could happen in a modern football game. the weird overtime loses really only hurt the new players. But through every great loss all the people who are still around for some reason just start bringing up all the stories about the other crazy losses that shouldn't have happened but somehow do still. The Gm's of the team really get into it as well as they keep recordings and drawings of some of the disasters on hand for these "traumatic sporting events". Sometimes its just the audio of the commentators trying to figure out what just happened. Its a lot better when its a national broadcast and they realy have no idea that this is normal and are flailing to explain how a team was able to get their kicking team on the field and to get as snap off in a couple of seconds on the clock and no timeouts.

Given the lack of success we've experienced in recent seasons, I'm not sure we have a real rival at this very moment, but I think historically it is the Orange County Otters so I'll go with that. Also, since Anton Bruckner is on the Otters, fuck 'em! And you can print that! My team rivals are probably the New Orleans Second Line due to the Tijuana connection, but right now they are Second Last amirite? And guess who is keeping them from being dead last? Aw shit.

As for what the locker room is after a loss, well it's always real tough. Sometimes we don't know why we lost a game until film review the following Monday, but other times, it's obvious and it weighs on us, or at least on me, all week, until we get a chance to redeem ourselves the following Sunday. The big leaders of this locker room are, in my opinion, Raylan Crowder, Lawrence Bass, and of course our golden boy Monty Jack. They are always checking in on us after tough losses. Man, I could never play QB. Gotta keep that stoic face on every single day for your entire career. Shit's mad.

How does Juno react? It depends. Sometimes he hits up the clubs for some action if ya know what I mean. Sometimes he heads home and picks up the bong. You aren't gonna tell anyone that, are ya? You know what they say about snitches. Sometimes he lashes out and goes to the gym for some extra workouts. Those aren't too common though, and are generally linked to other frustrations in his life.

Overtime losses are never easy. However, when you're a member of the Colorado Yeti, and the overtime loss is to the Yellowknife Wraiths, it is an infinitely tougher loss to swallow. The Yeti, for whatever reason, cannot figure out the Yellowknife Wraiths. They have our number. They are our kryptonite. It is silent in the locker room. You could hear a pin drop. The players are quietly putting their equipment away and getting dressed, heads hung low. You would think the players would be used to losing to Yellowknife, as several of them have been with the Yeti for 7 or more seasons. One player, though, is tired of the glum attitudes. Magnus Rikiya stands up and starts talking.

She reminds the team that, despite the close, crushing loss, the Yeti are still in contention for the Ultimus this year. The Yeti have one of the best defenses in the league, and combined with a potent offense, can compete on any given sim-day. She highlights individual members of the team and reminds them of their contributions this season. After a rousing speech, the team begins to come together. One bad loss isn't enough to sink the entire season, they realize. They all agree to learn from the loss and make up for it in their next game.

OT losses are nothing new to San Jose. Bass has seen plenty in his career alone with the Sabercats. This one, however, stings more; as does any loss suffered at the hands of the Otters. San Jose’s in-state rival has an incredible pedigree. The Otters surged out to an early 2 touchdown lead, but the Cats defense held strong and let Lack and the Cheeseman work their magic. Deep into the 4th, Matty made clutch kick after Campbell took a pass 40 yards and into the range of the Scottish kicking machine. Matty bombs the 55-yarder through the uprights as time expires in regulation.

OT comes and the Otters start with the ball. Otis “Meatball” Allen gets back to back sacks, and the cats are ready to takeover, but then, disaster struck. Owen Holloway sneaks past the defense and houses a 75-yard TD strike. Game over. The Cats are devastated. The locker room dreary. But, a voice that has been chiming in all season, pipes up once again to lift the spirits of the entire team. Zach Crossley stood up and ripped into a hearty rendition of Hotel California that had the even the grouchiest of vets smiling and cheering him on. Raylan Crowder joined in and the rest is history. The darkest times need teammates like that, and San Jose is lucky to have multiple.
