What I like most about trading cards is that they appeal to all ages. It's something a kid can enjoy when they pull their favorite football hero's card just as much as the long-time fan who pulls a legend from his youth and thinks back to that great
experience in the stadium thirty years ago. The cards should also reflect that huge target audience and offer something for everyone.
It's no secret that kids like colorful, flashy things, so how about a cartoonish looking set with high quality drawings of the players in a cartoon look or those cards you have to move slightly to see different images that look like a small animation?
For the older generation a "legends" series, high quality black and white pictures with some facts about the legend's best games or accomplishments as a player.
For the more casual fans you can have cards that feature popular musicians and actors and their favorite teams, maybe throw in some autographs so the people who watch like one game per season but really like John Cena have a reason to buy the cards as well.
Talking about autographs, for the real hardcore collectors there's nothing better than pulling an autograph or a jersey piece, even better if it's a nice patch. Something that makes you feel like you got a piece of the game in your hands.

In my opinion, on the Dotts system, I would say that it misses the point of its economic effect on the league. While it's meant to help take some of the money out of the league, incentivizing more significant contracts, I feel that this system is still wanting. First, the fact that the cards become useless collectibles that have no real value, it becomes harder to promote them when a seeming majority of the players are aware of this pointless commodification.

My solution for this predicament would be to make this Dotts system in tandem with another system. Maybe add other types of collectibles, such as badges or graphic cards depicting highlights from the season. With these systems having connecting series of collectibles, they could be incentivized by awarding some type of stat boost when a player has successfully collected the allotted items. This idea could get a boost by not allowing any player to acquire double of a particular card or collectible, ensuring that every new package bought would yield a new item.

While my rudimentary solution is imperfect and could use more development, I believe that the overall solution for the Dotts system is to overlay other systems that would go further to awarding players, instead of attempting to use a system as an economic manager.

Quote:Written Option: This past week saw the premiere of Dotts, the ISFL’s official trading card series. The cards are still in their infancy but there is a lot of room to grow, especially with new cards and special packs. In 200 words or more, write about any number of additions you would make to the current catalog. This can be anything from a Fair Rubs Club series, older awards, special Ultimini winning teams, or even Gimmy Jarappolo’s religion. What other systematic changes would you make to improve the Dotts experience?

For starters the rarest card in the collection should of course be a Ezekiel Bishop Memorial Card. I know I would pay a pretty penny to get my hands on a card of our true lord and saviour.

Looking at special packs maybe we can get a big collective together to make special cards for the best players in certain eras. Like a Mike Boss S1-S10 era card. The terms of how an eras is defined need to be looking at and a way to really judge who was the best of the best in those eras. That would definatly be a special kind of series I could get behind as it would celebrate our history. Maybe even like a founding fathers kinda deal. Players who will always be though of when a certain position gets brought up.

It would be a ton of extra work, but in the future there could be a look at bringing in foils of card. Just regular cards with a flossy little shine to them. It's one of those things that could be extra for the real collectors in the card scene. So it's just one of those things that can make a card extra special for the people who want it to be.

I feel like Dotts is a awesome idea but can be even better with some work. Having a few different special collections of cards would be good, as well as the ability to trade cards between other people. Being able to trade cards between people would make people, like myself, want to buy more cards as well keeping people interested in the cards.

Speaking for myself if I was able to trade cards with other people I would definitely buy more packs because I would want to complete the different collections that come up even though I’m only a rookie in the league. I say this, as in real life I used to collect soccer stickers and being able to complete a collection was always a thing I loved to do. I might not know the players I’m getting in my packs but having special collections to complete would make me want to invest more money into the cards. If it’s possible having a little fact about each player on the cards would make it more interesting and would let people like myself learn more about the league.

Saying all this I think the designs of the cards are really cool. The special designs I have seen, of players who have won titles, are really awesome and they are the kinds of cards I want to get.

So with a few tweaks here and there, I feel like Dotts could be something that the whole league could get involved with.

Im going to start off by saying that I love the idea of ISFL's trading cards. I don't know why but there is something about them that just make them....fun? I don't know, they are just really exciting to collect. I also got to give props to the Dotts team as well for making a huge amount of cards from season 1 all the way to season 24. And on top of that, the cards look great too! However, there is some complaints that I will like to say to the Dotts team. Why is it so expensive? In the trading cards section it says that the cards cost 500k for 1 pack every day. That means for 1 whole week its 3,500,000. And for one whole season it states that its 7,500,000. It just seems like a waste to spend all your hard worked fake money for pixels on your screen when you can spend it on weekly trainings, Equipment, hell even the casino you can spend it on and it would bring out more benefits then this. But I guess im a hypocrite for actually buying these three times a week. Dotts, I love the cards but just please turn the price down a little bit. Spending millions on cards just dosen't seem right.

Discussions about addressing the league economy from time to time arise… and I always have an issue with them when they do. Largely this stems from the assumption of those making said arguments that there is an inherent problem with the league economy. The reality is with the league setup like it currently is money will always be easy to earn. Spend an hour recording a podcast, writing a media piece, or building a graphic and you’ll have earned probably more then your entire contract for the season. Hell, do it for a 1.5x or 2x media event and you’ll probably have made enough for your entire season's training. This isn’t to say that that is a problem… We should want to encourage media creation in the league… it just means that you’re never going to properly balance the entire league economy because those who put in the time and effort will always be there to easily break it. Even if you were to adjust the cap to try to get teams to spend above the minimum…. It just means teams would more highly value players who create their own media and would accept the minimum contract. Likewise, Dotts and the Casino are nice distractions, but I imagine if you look into the top bank accounts in the league, very few if any of those users play into those option money draining distractions.

Listen, I appreciate that setting up Dotts was already a lot of work. That is totally understandable. However, I will go on record with several of the other opinions I've read in these posts and say that it's pretty disappointing that the draft graphics were used for all the base cards. Like I said, I get it. You would have to have recolored and edited all of those photos and would have been a lot more work, but beyond saving work, it makes the cards seem incredibly generic. Like, many players changed their render from their draft card, and that info can easily be found in a Google spreadsheet linked to the form. If you're looking to get people to drop a ton of money, and for me and apparently some others specifically, you have to give me something unique. If you're putting more work in, make the packs worth more money. Whatever. Just make these cards something I feel like I have to have. Quite frankly, I don't know that I'll buy another pack until specifically my player has some sort of special card to get, or at least there are less generic graphics involved. I appreciate the work that went into this because it's a super cool concept. I just think that it needs some finishing touches to really make it something special.
