RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - maupassant - 04-04-2021 Erik Gaare did not have the most amazing rushing stats during the DSFL season 27. After being a second round draft pick for the Dallas Birddogs, he was used in a much more secondary role in the backfield. His expectations of being highly drafted in the coming ISFL draft were close to none as his on field production and low profile did not really stand out during the scouting process. But in the second round, with the 22nd overall pick, his name was called. Yellowknife came calling and nothing else mattered. He was filled with happiness and joy and instantly swore he would do absolutely everything in his powers and capacities to become the best player possible for his ISFL team. It really was a great experience participating in all the draft process. Everything including the scouting and the party we had in our DSFL locker room for every teammate drafted. I met really cool scouts for every ISFL team and realized that there are so many great people in this community that care a lot for what theyre doing. The draft stream and the anticipation we had in the Dallas Birddogs locker room is what really makes me happy. There are too many great guys there and I was really happy to have them alongside me as we heard our names picked. RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - TheRealMazatt - 04-04-2021 My last draft experience, or rather, my only ISFL draft experience was overwhelmingly positive. It all started with the aspirations of a 2nd-3rd round selection. I'm gonna be real, I understand and respect my limitations towards earning money. I was up front with that with GM's and their scouts so I was under the impression that they understood me to be a high floor, low ceiling kind of guy. I wanted to be around for the long haul but max-earning is just out of the question. I never really got in touch with GM's about my potential positioning, mostly because I was concerned about being seen as "leak" baiting or something to that effect. Expectation wise that's where I was at. Wherever I go, that's where I'll stay. Watching the draft live, I did start to consider what teams could snag me. It was mostly about teams that had people I knew on them, which was limited to Austin, Honolulu, and New Orleans (as far as I can recall). It got to the late first and I thought, hey, New Orleans is picking, and hey, what's this? There's a trade? Austin is sliding into 13th overall, that's neat. Internally I'm not even thinking I'd go here. There's a bit of ISFL/SHL crossover there, as well as some fellas I've met in fantasy leagues but I thought it was out of the question. Little did I know Amid, one of the rookies in Carolina, was trading up to snag me there. That was undeniably a moment of surprise, mostly. Not just the fact that I got taken in the 1st round, but that someone traded up to get me? Wild stuff, honestly. For a guy like me who loves trade trees and all that, it was fun to be involved in a trade tree. Oh yeah, it's also fun in general to end up on a team with a lot of great personalities in Austin that can help keep me coming back to the site and staying semi-active with earning. Real ideal situation, all things considered. Code: >200 words RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - Cklues - 04-04-2021 I had a great ISFL draft experience! I wasn’t in the DSFL draft so it was all new to me. My first impression was how fantastic of a broadcasting voice whatamus has. He made it very pleasant to listen to. I went into the draft without high expectations, being a new user and being undrafted on top of that. I did however have a couple teams that I wanted to go to, no matter where they ended up drafting me. I’m alright with being a late round pick, all that means is that the team that drafts me is gonna get an absolute steal. I ended up getting drafted by one of the teams I wanted to go to, and I was pretty surprised I went as early as I did, in the early 3rd. There were plenty of other good users left on the board. I am beyond excited to be a part of Berlin’s future squad. There’s a bright future ahead of us. I hope that I can continue the legacy of what is becoming a stalwart defense, just like Portland that I will be leaving. I’m excited for what the future holds and I can’t wait to prove myself to the people that drafted me. RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - mcgriddleluver - 04-04-2021 Mac Griddle has had three different draft experiences, his prospect draft that sent him to Portland, his rookie drafted which landed him in San Jose but the one that has meant the most to him was the expansion draft that had the New York Silverbacks select him with their second pick. While the other two drafts are still obviously big deals in a players career, Mac Griddle while initially upset about being exposed by San Jose has since realized how big this move was for him. San Jose had just won the Ultimus before the expansion draft had started and Mac was looking forward to being a key piece in San Jose's team for the following season but soon found himself as part of the expansion pool with other stunned prospects and veterans. Since his time in New York however he has had a quiet few seasons but in season 28 he has found his game and his happy to be part of the Ultimus hopeful Silverbacks. He went into his first season with New York with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder and has credited that chip to how he handles himself on the field and with his off-season training. The whole scouting process and getting to speak to all the different teams is really enjoyable. With it being my first sim league the ISFL draft was only my 2nd draft I’d experienced so it was all still pretty new to me. I remember getting all the messages from teams, most being to start a great conversation and some being questionnaires which I’m personally really against them but I can understand why people use them. Going into the ISFL draft I had no idea where I’d go, making my player a run stopping safety means my player is never going to be top of people’s draft boards so it would be based more on the user than player. I remember I watched the draft while being in voice chat with my Kansas City Coyote teammates who were also waiting to be drafted. To be honest I thought I’d be picked late 3rd/early 4th round so when I got picked up with the 4th pick of the 2nd round, which was 18th overall, I was very surprised. Although the team that picked me wasn’t a surprise as it was Baltimore, who’s GM’s at the time were Butters and Star who’d only recently took over the jobs and were two people I knew quite well from Kansas City. I throughly enjoyed the draft experience and I’m already looking forward to the next chance I get to experience it. But when it comes to older users they get a little predictable. I would like to bring up a special draft where it helped a ton of teams. Especially my own team, the Sarasota Sailfish. The draft class of Season 22 is an exquisite class, which when I was a new user was my draft class. It featured many starters in many positions that a ton of teams that could take advantage of. This is the building block and foundation of the Championship Sarasota Sailfish. A ton of their players are from this class. From my own player, to Withblocke, Booger, Deville and Angler. This draft class helped the Sailfish explode into the powerhouse they are today. Many of the players taken in later rounds, including the third or fourth rounds could have easily been selected in the first round in other drafts. The sheer size and talent that was available helped many teams. Especially this season, where we see the explosion of the Berlin Fire Salamanders, who have the highest amount of Season 22 draftees. It is an amazing class and I am happy to be a part of it. This will continue to be strong until regression hits the players. I knew I was going to fall off of some draft boards because I had some very particular goals for my linebacker and also because I was a linebacker and a lot of teams probably weren't super sure if I was going to be a right fit. But to fall down to what pick 12 or 13 or whatever I was ended up being really funny. If I remember correctly New York actually traded down in the first round anyway but still was able to draft me and I was one of the top player's on their board. I was also really hoping they would be the team to draft me and were basically one of my top 3 choices of teams to go to that draft. The excitement of getting to go to a brand new squad and try to build a contendor out of nowhere with some old friends like westfield and trautner was awesome. They seemed to have a really good plan with ttheir expansion and so to fall to them late in the 1st round couldn't have worked out much better than it did and I'm happy to be here. |
