I don't necessarily think higher minimums is better. If a 1000 TPE player is a minimum $10m deal and a player who wants to try and get the best deal they can is only able to score $13 or $14m because teams are so stacked with high mins, I don't really see that as a plus. I think minimums should be low enough that a player can get 2x, 3x, or 4x the minimum if they want to. If we take it too far in the other direction we're almost to the point where we make contracts fixed on TPE and call it a day.

its hard to convince people to take more money. why should i take what im worth and go to a bad team with a dead lr when i can get half that, help out the hawks and win a ring and have a great lr.

And he didn't "try" free agency.  In his decision to go to Yellowknife he said Arizona had the best pitch, but we were ruled out because they were a rival to OC.  And then, he just decided to go back to OC without giving Yellowknife (or any other team) a chance to convince him.

Bzer knew what my plan was the entire time. When I’d signed, he was planning to rebuild; but instead he went into a win-now mode that almost surprised everyone.

Also let's not pretend like I didn't offer Jiggly more money than YKW last off season. he wanted a hiatus, he took it. nobody was blindsided by any of this.
