Just adding to what a couple of other said in terms of hedging.
In order to get the highest expected value return from season predictions it is worth spreading around conference winners from eventual playoff winners as you are just betting on the whole filed more. It is something I have seen in other SIM leagues if you just look at the TPE max earners, they often do stuff like that.
Basically you have a higher chance of earning say 2-3 tpe. But a lower chance of earning 4-5..
